So far, all I’m seeing is an DPS obsessed elementalist who is used to spiking everyone down in 3 seconds, but failed to with a ranger — so he came here to complain. My apologies, I may be over generalizing somewhat, but that’s all I see.

I wish I could be be a tanky canon like the Ranger. They don’t dish out as much as a full GC, but you can’t outsustain them while they can destroy glass canon specs like it’s nothing (they essentially become a GC to the GC opposer while being tanky) and do exteremely well against tanky specs because of their ability to outdps them. Oh, and most of it’s passive. Goodness, why would anyone even bother defending the state of this class. I like winning too, but not like this.

The only way a Ranger can be tanky and a GC at the same time is if he/she times their evades perfectly. Otherwise, what you’re speaking of doesn’t exist.

It’s true, I wish the Ranger wasn’t so passive. I wish everything about the profession would be fixed. But what I saw here in this video wasn’t necessarily something to get mad at. The ele wasn’t thinking, and reacted to the Ranger in negative ways that got him killed.

I have a feeling that you two have been at it for quite some time. I guess I’ll leave you to it, then.

- Applying the active effects to the entire party would be quite broken as you could grant the entire party invuln, stability, and increased damage.

Rangers need more group support. Guardians has a skills that grands 12 stacks of might to nearby allies & heals for a base of 1,500 — on a 20 second cooldown. Thieves and mesmers can gift stealth to nearby allies — arguably a very powerful buff. Rangers being able to give a brief 6 seconds of 25% damage boost & stability (there is no invulnerability) wouldn’t be op, but rather supportive and desirable.

Piercing Arrows changed to Incendiary Arrows – Effect becomes, Arrows that hit targets explode and deal damage in a 90 degree radius. (They still pierce)
- Exploding piercing arrows? That could cause heavy, heavy group damage. Larger damage potential than any current AoE unless the explosion damage was negligible. Then what would the point be?

Arrows by themselves are pretty weak, even from a Ranger — a supposed master of archery. In addition, Rangers are pretty lacking in the aoe department. Adding that extra -oomph- to arrows wouldn’t be that bad considering it’s a master tiered trait.

Yeah, I agree with you on this one. Necromancers have a grand-master trait called “Lingering Curse” that makes “Conditions inflicted by scepter skills last 33% longer.” If the axe trait was also a grand-master trait, and the 50% was changed to 33% to be on-par with Necromancers, that would be better.

I also agree with you here. At the same time, I still think the trait is a little lackluster. Perhaps adding a cripple, and/or burning to the list would be good? Perhaps not burning, but it would make sense as a “stop, drop, and roll” sorta idea for Rangers.

I’m pretty sure it already does (it just doesn’t say so in the trait yet). The only thing that the OP is asking for, is for it to be able to affect all pets — not just felines and drakes. Even if he wasn’t, it wouldn’t be that bad…pets can hardly hit anything moving anyway.

That’s true. The cooldown would have to be increased to, say, 35 seconds? That would put it in the area of “Stand Your Ground!” But without the retaliation, but also with the possibility of it being 2 seconds faster on cooldown. Maybe give it a 900 range too? That would make it different than “Stand Your Ground!” without making it OP.

And new tier can appear as easy as ascended did, but they will make you grind so much with ascended (and infusions) that indeed level cap raise will most likely come first. But theres always possibility of new tier especially if they are late with expansion – bam – new tier that makes you grind launch content ad nasueum just like ascended does.

As for the level cap raise, yeah, that’s quite a likely a possibility. But no one smart will “grind” to reach 90, or 100. The game rewards you with so much XP for doing almost anything; it would come naturally within a week.

Ive suggested many things but anet doesnt listen. the best way to have dealt with ascended armour was to give them the same stats as exotics but just give them a few infusion slots. this will not force ppl to get ascended items if they do not want to do fractals and will allow those who want to max/farm fractals to do so. gw2 was a mmo where u can get to max lvl gear urself out in exotic and take a 4 months break if u wanted, then come back and not be behind anyone. ascended items ruined that, and by the looks of it kitten is going to be expensive which = more grind grind grind grind and GRIND!

Well, sort of. Keep in mind that ascended will be the last teir A-net implements forever (at least for years). In addition, you’re not being forced to get this stuff, unless you want to do high lvled fractals or WvW. Because of this, you can go at your own pace — there is no need to grind. That’s what I’ve been doing since launch, and I’m only a precursor and a few T6 mats away from Frostfang. I’ve only really grinded once or twice, and that was because I felt like doing so. Personally, I’m going to take my time getting ascended weapons, and only work on them as I have the resources to do so.

Of course, there will also be new infusions, infusions are at blue tier so quite a bit of room for grind there and sigils/runes, and then some more infusions.

No, I don’t work for A-net; I’m simply understanding. A-net said they wouldn’t be implementing a new tier because they didn’t think they had to. However, as was stated by them, they felt the need to because the gap between exotics and legendaries was too crazy big — so they decided to fill that gap. I do believe they also said they had the intent to have ascended in the game from the start originally, but for whatever reason decided against it — until they ran into this problem. Now that the gap has been filled, there is no reason to add more.

On another topic, you say you are worried about infusions growing more diverse & expensive. While I never thought of this before, I doubt it will happen.

I don’t know if you read what I said, but I said I don’t really “chase” after anything — especially stats. That’s the reason I got GW2. I know you’re worried, but there’s no reason to be paranoid. A-net doesn’t want to turn this game into a gear treadmill any more than you do. The grind for these items was mostly implemented to fill the progression gap, not to start a treadmill.

I still hold that several of them are OP, but I agree that many look like they’re what we need.

The ele shouldn’t have just stood next to the storm spirit. By now people should no not to stand anywhere near spirits if a) they’re raising their arms [short timeframe] or b) they’re dying. As for the amount of damage the Ranger took, that’s what happens when you have high toughness + protection. Most condi-specs do that. And, honestly, you can’t hate on Rangers themselves for running the spirit build — it’s like one of only 2 good builds they have — the spirit build offering the most group support of the 2.

Once the Ranger’s primary mechanic (pet) stops being a handicap more than an asset. Once many of our weapon skills are de-bugged and buffed a bit. Once most of our utilities are either re-vamped, re-balanced, or added to. Once our trait lines are fixed (seriously, 3 out of the 5 are pretty poorly set-up. Not only that, but the background art for the WS and BM lines are backwards — STILL). THEN, and only then, will I be at peace.

Or make the path be worth 3 gold…

I feel like what you said was exaggerated somewhat. You can still run around and do whatever you please — the grind is just there for those who like it. Sure, there is a stat increase on ascended gear, but by the time the grinders get a full set, you would have earned enough yourself from running around, that the difference between you and them would be insignificant. Really, the only areas of the game that would be penalized due to said increases would be small WvW skirmishes, and elitist dungeon group joining. As for the rest of the problems mentioned, yeah, they suck. But I have faith in A-net that they will be fixed someday in the future. Anyway, that’s my take on it.

Looking forward to your state of the Ranger address. I can agree, the profession needs love.

OP, before you shout murder, check your sources. What you are stating is incorrect information.

Look at the Pax interview with Colin. It wil either be a legendary backpack or one legendary trinket. Cut it out with the pitchfork attitude and don’t believe everything you read.

The background arts for the Wilderness Survival and Beast Mastery trait-lines need to be swapped. WS has animals and pets, while BM has a survivalist backpack and compass. It’s a minor issue, I know, but it would be nice to drop into an upcoming patch.

For people complaining that putting a blast finisher on GS #2 would be too OP due to Healing Spring:

Yes, maybe, it would be powerful if the ranger were to stay in the field, but would any good player just let a ranger do so? No. They would move away, and force the ranger to follow. How often do you stay in the field for the full duration? An engi, for example, could possibly just stand away and pepper the field with grenades. You’d be at a disadvantage to stay in such a deathtrap.

It is true that we’d make slightly better turret’ers, since our pet would be of some small use by guarding is while we fire. Still doesn’t make up for the rest of the crap we have to deal with.

I’m just itching to create a Tengu Warrior with my Dragon’s Jade weapon skins I’ve been saving…
