A sad day for Rangers…a sad day indeed.
does anyone have a good strategy? I have tried numerous times, and fail at frizz every time. What buffs should I use, what cleansers? I enjoy the heck out of this game, and play everyday, but this dungeon is taking the fun out of it. I really want to complete this….I am a level 80 Norn Ranger. Can any one please give me some pointers so I can complete this story?
Unfortunatly, us rangers are getting the short end of the stick — again — with environmental dungeon encounters. Just set your pet on passive the whole fight, except for when the lazers stop momentarily to kill Frizz.
Dire wolves. (15 characters)
Nope, I wish. But no change.
And still, I trudge on. Through the fire and the flames. Through nerf guns and haters. Through bugs and exclusions…
I trudge on.
Hoping, one day, whether it take a year, or perhaps three, or even if I have to wait a decade…people will post “LF xxxx Ranger.”
Patient ranger waits.
Patient ranger sits.
Patient ranger, is patient. -_-

Ok, so I wanted to make this thread for those who are having trouble with this boss encounter. Please don’t comment on your opinions about your gripes/dislikes and/or issues with other people. Rather, if you see a tip not covered or have a trick you’d like to share — feel free to contribute. Are you one of the ‘pugs’ or simply have a question? Then ask away.
Now then, structure aside, these are my tips:
Ranged weapons work well in this. They aren’t required, but save on a lot of grief. Also, don’t be afraid to change skills and traits in your unlocked bars, if they’ll make things easier — if only for this one fight. Pick stunbreak and stability granting utility if possible. Or insta-rez/heal assist skills (like the guardian’s heal-teleport) to help others recover from the occasional misshap. Use anything (weapons/skills) that will keep you mobile. After setting up this, attempt to CC or have the golems follow you away from lazers. You can’t do this forever, but it should save you a few more seconds of unbuffed golem. When these golems are sic’d after you, try to target one for your team to focus on. When it dies, that’s one less pull you have to worry about. Pay attention to the little things, like a golem about to initiat a pull or the small lazer about to make its way to you, to react and dodge in time. The smaller floor lazer is avoidable if you stand on or jump off of the tops of the crate piles around the room. If you are forced into a situation in which you must be hit by a lazer, dodge directly into it. If done right, the lazer won’t hit you on the way out. Find the spot that works best for you; do you work better standing at the source of the lazers? Or around the outside edges? In between? Finally, use the Frizz fighting lazer-free breaks to rez any dead-dead party members. If you take it one step at a time, you should be able to pull through.

I haven’t been able to get passed this, yet, personally. I’m always the last to be downed, but the pugs I find rarely seem to learn from their mistakes. There are a few golden few who keep up with me. But even then, it’s hard to win with only 2. Expecially with those golem pulls…then they just give up and leave, and I’m back to square 1.
I haven’t given up, though. I will never give up. I just have to find a group that does the same. :\

Good luck, and may Wolf guide you.
I haven’t been able to get passed this. :P
My group keeps dying, and leaves me to solo everything. Not good enough to solo dungeons yet…
First boss isn’t very ranger friendly — as far as pets/lazers go. That’s half of our dps made useless. I wish pets (maybe necro minions & guardian spirits & mesmer illusions & engineer turrets) didn’t take damage from the lazers. Also, those pulls suck charr.
It’s just the pull with the golems. Some professions (like rangers) have almost no stability. They have stunbreaks, sure, but when the golems pull you into lazers, stunbreaks won’t save you. Nothing will. Sometimes, it just pure luck. But, the pulling is my only gripe. I agree that everything else can be beaten simply with understanding.
the pulling is a mechanic it has nothing to do with luck. Don’t want to be pulled then don’t mess up. No stability required, just coordination.
Define “mess up” in this context.
It’s just that blasted pull on those golems. That’s what makes it too frustrating.

Thanks, you guys. I’ll try those builds out in sPvP! ^-^
Oh, thought we were talking about WvW/PvE builds here. The build I just gave you wouldn’t work every well in sPvP.
I agree with mostly everything but — how can you not kill rangers? They’re atrociously unbalanced and under-pare. Sorry, off topic, but that just stood out to me. :P
What?
BM-Condi rangers are freaking OP 1v1.
BM rangers are getting a huge nerf coming this patch. like, for some pet attacks, 50% damage nerf. They’ll get a few buffs in the condition field, but nothing our condition removal can’t fix.

I use this, personally. With a combination of symbols and shouts, your group and you can keep a healthy supply of boons regularly. Not only do symbols heal allies, but so does you virtue of resolve — which, by the way, counts as a “boon” as far as your Altruistic healing trait is concerned. So you constantly heal from nearly everything you do. Combined with your decent vitality and toughness, and you won’t get downed often. Your power keeps you dealing a nice amount of dps too. Use your hammer when you want a bit more defense, and your GS for more offense. And feel free to swap out utilities whenever the situation demands it.
As for build advice, what are you looking to be stat-wise? Bunker-y? DPS/condition focused? Utility geared? Support oriented? Or perhaps a mixture of 2? Also, what’s your race? Some races have good elites to use.
This build is all about applying boons to your allies with symbols and shouts, and having those boons being applied heal you. It has pretty decent attack due to all its power. And since you’re applying virtue of resolve to allies every 3ish seconds (counts as a boon) you’re a pretty sturdy fellow to beat. Use your shouts like mini-heals. And try to get people in your symbols when attacking points.
(You can swap out the hammer for a staff or mace/shield if you’d like)

My body is ready (for nerfs)
Rangers feel your pain. :<
Does server matter?
I see your point, but is it possible to even talk to an enemy player? If you are just able to see their names you shouldn’t be able to talk to them, also not being able to attack them. I came from a game that does show the names of all the players, it’s like a small community, same players for years kinda thing, that’s why I bring this up. Competition there is pretty cool because you know who you fight and what they’re capable of. But I see your point as well, especially with a game that has this many players, might end up differently.
Sort of…anyway, there’s a roundabout way of doing it.
Type: /me says: ______
As long as the enemy has their chat box set to read emotes, they can read what you say.
Jetpacks? Unique aerial combat? I’m in!
I concur. (15 char.)
In the future, ranger ranged group support will likely come in the form of the staff. And, ranger CC will become more prominent when we can finally pick up a hammer.
I’ve used a LB since BWE1. This will be a welcome change. Still woulf like to see pther weapons (like axe mainhand) get damage buffs due to pet nerfs. Also, kinda sad to see 2 spear cooldowns get nerfed. But at least the 2nd whirl lasts a little longer now. Woild like to see the sword auto “lock” get fixed too.
(PS: can’t wait for hammer/staff ranger)
Actually, Nomin, what nerfs did the guardian get?
Ranger. Since BWE1.
Seriously, people are worrying way to much. You’re all freaking out now, but when the patch hits, and you adjust to dealing with it/learn to counter it. You’ll think “this isn’t that bad.”
Ok, so first I want to voice that this LOOKS AWESOME.
However, I’m also somewhat worried…
It states that the special Dragon Helmet “is only available to players who attend an entire fireworks show in lion’s arch, which occurs every two hours during the in-game evening from June 14 to June 17.”
Since BWE1, I’ve suffered through disconnects every 20-40 minutes. It’s due to my ISP packet throttling me, but I won’t be able to fix the problem for several more months. Is there any chance for us flaky folk to get the helm? Or will I have to tell a friend to log in my account for the duration of the show?
Kinda reminds me of the first few months of Fractals, except now it’s a limited time.
Thanks in advance.
I agree. And while I know it doesn’t fit well with brooms and drills, I really want a giant ice-wolf to ride. Maybe these mounts (broom and drill included) should have their own storage, kinda like mini-pets?

That is an utterly terrible spec in PvP.There is no dedicated healing in this game but trust me there are builds that put out a lot of healing in small ammounts.
That’s actually a notable reason why most every premade runs at least one guardian.
We should duel sometime…

This is a friend of mine’s build:
(You’ll have to copy/paste it into your browser’s URL)
Look at those stats! O_0
You cannot be CC’d, conditions mean nothing to you, you can trap people in your circle of death right after pulling them with your greatsword #5, you heals crazy fast — especially when allies are near, hit like a bear, and take hits like a shield.

I agree with guardians being really hard to fight in general.

Not to mention: He cannot be CC’d, conditions mean nothing to him, he can trap you in his circle of death right after pulling you with his greatsword #5, he heals crazy fast — rarely falls below 85% — especially when allies are near, hits like a bear, takes hits like a shield, and can summon his hounds.
Someday…over the rainbow!
Expansions are going to be a sensitively crafted thing. Mainly because an expansion would have very limited content added towrads wvw if they have to consider the viability for non-expansions players to continue to play. Making expansion only wvw content will only split the population up so I wonder how it’s going to happen. Also, if they increase the level limit (which is the last straw for me, probably my game breaking thing) then they have to consider how this is implemented in regards to wvw as well. I wonder how these issues will be solved hmm.
They could add a large WvW update at the same time as an expansion, but for free, like they have been doing. That way, all areas “could” feel like they’re being added upon, and everyone’s happy.
I play a healing/support ranger with a decent amount of power. I have 1213 healing, 2625 attack, and a crap-ton of defensive boons.

All-in-all, I think it works amazing as a healing build. I’ve been known to get 30-40 seconds of regen on my allies, and stop people from being wiped mid-combat.

…I like downed state…
There’s technically already mounts in the game, but they’re “cosmetic mounts.” I prefer these, actually, and would like to see more. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the broom and drill. Now if we could get some animals or giant things to ride, that would be great. But the premise of these mounts not granting a speed bonus or “flying” (they can hover) is a necessary mechanic.
Single use mystic forge and crafting stations are joke too. Who really needs to do either of those things on the run?
This… this 100 times over… the forge would be nice if permanent but for one use.. I’d almost rather have the materials haha
Plus, there already is a permanent forge access (Mystic Forge Conduit). A permanent crafting access would be cool, though.
I’m getting a feeling that the sickle will be dark and evil like the consordium weapons out atm. Wonder what the effect will be?
I’m sure. I even used my mouse when shortcuts failed. Still brings up scoreboard.
Normally, when I’m fighting in a match, I can click the “sPvP” button at the top-left, and then click “return to the mists.” When spectating, however, doing this only brings up the scoreboard. I can’t find a way to return to the main lobby (mists) at all — unless I’m in the match fighting.
Did I miss something? Or is there illegitimately no way to exit spectator mode right now?

When you have this much debate over whether a profession is OP or not, the profession is likely on the right track.
There are so many legendaries that are “designed” towards the ranger.
For example:
Frostfang → Winter’s Bite
The Howler → Call of the Wild [Mix of snake/wolf]
Kudzu → [It’s just nature-y]
Frenzy → Feeding Frenzy [both the legendary and the skill involve piranhas]
Kamohoali’i Kotaki → Dart [Sharks!]
Maybe, in a year or two after Tyria becomes more devloped, we can push a movement for Cantha similar to the Mass Effect 3 movement. Here’s to hoping.
I agree. If my pet is on fire, or foaming at the mouth with poison, or spilling blood with every step…I want to know about it. Expecially when I activate the signet of renewel.
