I haven’t gone through the process myself, yet, but that does raise an interesting point; maybe A-net should implement some sort of non-intrusive guiding system to help players along?
Ha! You people complaining about this are so funny. Very amusing to listen to.
Why would Anet be surprised? All this place does is complain.
QFT!
If people are complaining means ANET has messed up big time else why would we complain. There must be a reason why people complain lol………….
No, people complain all the time, regardless of reason. While very few complaints have actual valid reasons behind them, nearly all the rest don’t. People like to complain. I’ve seen people complain that “Norn females look too pretty.” Or that “the game is too big.”
Watch the prices for exotics shoot up. You need to salvage them for dark matter.
Somedaaaaaaay, over the raaiinbooow!
I’m pretty sure the up n’ coming ascended weapons will have a sigil slot. However, just to be sure and for discussion’s sake, I wanted to ask here.
We know these weapons will be coming with their own infusion slots, allowing for more agony resistance and the (almost nothing) +5 of any stat. Another question has already been raised: will two-handed weapons come with 2 infusion slots? While I don’t expect 2 sigil slots (although, that would be cool), I can understand the desire for 2 infusion slots; with AR being such a valuable stat to have in high leveled fractals, running a two-handed weapon might become…less than efficient. Or maybe the one infusion slot for a two-hander could be the sum of 2 infusions on a one-hander/off-hand? Who knows. Would be nice to get some dev conformation on this.
(On an off note, should A-net add more ways to earn T6 mats? With the crafting craze about to kick off, and the mat-dump that advanced infusuons are, T6 mats will [already have] see[n] an even greater growth in already insane prices)
Dang…I was kinda hoping to get my 50 laurels back, and 20 pristine fractal relics :<
Save your laurels. Those T6 mat packs might become even more valuable >:)

I completely agree. A long time ago, A-net said dyes would be account bound. They said that unlocking a dye on one character would unlock it on all. But, unfortunately, they changed their minds, saying that they “wanted more individual character progression.” I say it was a mistake. Like you said, some dyes are just near impossible to get on all characters. And having to unlock the same dye multiple times just becomes irritating.
I’m 90% sure they trigger only on a successful hit. But that’s not all that bad. Since the 10sec. cooldown on their effects only starts after the effect’s activation.
Making the pets more customizable in any way would be amazing.
{*sigh*}
Someday…over the rainbow…I hope Rangers will actually become wanted.
I think vitality should decrease condi damage. It makes sense.
Pretty sure they’re limited.
Yep!
I just beat her with my Ranger! I thought I’d never do it…
Nope. I still wish Evon would have won….
Twas a sad day for Evon supporters :<
You used to be able to type in a special command into the launcher to convert it back to the beta launcher. But for some reason, that option was taken our with a patch. I agree, though. I would love to see the option to convert back to the old launcher.
It only begins to matter when said puzzles begin to offer unique and special rewards. Rewards saying “hey, I beat this crazy hard puzzle and earned this.”
A-net has stated in SotG that they are planning on adding build templates in the future. However, you’re likely going to see it in PvP first, because they have a simpler gear system.
I’d say that would work pretty well. I agree that it wouldn’t be OP. Seemd balanced enough. +1
No more items that just take up bank-space. It should be view-able through the personal story/living story UI.
Well, you could destroy it if you wanted too. But I was hoping to make a collection of these scenes.
Yeah, as far as your last point goes, that’s just the essence of humanity. Luckily, I rarely encounter people like that. However, I know what it’s like.
As for your other points: A-net is more or less trying to fix them. But it may take a while.
I have learned to forgive logan…however, Zojja still kitten es me off.
Before, when that special “framed” cutscene was given, we were able to earn a “replay” item so we could watch it whenever we wanted. I liked the premis. Any chance we’ll be getting one for this patch’s cutscene? I hope so.
I…I still have 4 claim tickets I was saving for later O_0
I just hope A-net will come to their senses soon. This problem is literally killing me.
The debate goes something like this:
Rangerbase: A-net, can you PLEASE introduce a perma-stow option for the Ranger? The pet & AI behaves broken half the time, and in many situations, the pet is more of a handi-cap than a mechanic.
A-net: Sorry, but we can’t do that. We want the Ranger to fight in unison with their pet. Adding a perma-stow option would invalidate that ideal.
Rangerbase: that sounds nice and all, but I can’t “fight in unison” with a dead pet. Other professions can simply ignore (for the most part) their mechanic, why are we the only profession who suffers from a handi-cap for balance? Do Guardians get a healing de-scale because they come with a built in regen? Do Necromancers have to invest into deathshroud to not lose out on their viability? No.
A-net: if your worried about your pet dying, run with a divourer or spider.
Rangerbase: In dungeon encounters like Null, Frizz, Mai Trin, and Liadri; open-world AoE kitten storms like WvW, temple zergs, and the Queen’s Gauntlet, our pets are too dumb and under-tooled to do anything else than die — ranged or not. Adding a perma stow option would infact add more diversified build diversity for Rangers, while not making the pet completely worthless. In many fights the pet dies instantly, in others it acts as damage/aggro mitigater. The key is situation. No matter what you do special to the pet, in a game about movement, situational awareness, and enviornment hazards, the mechanic simply fails. While in others, it acts as a lifesaver. I’ll beg if I have to A-net. I’ll make my somehow still juvenile alpine wolf (Tahu), suffering from name amnesia whenever I trade out pets, to blast you with puppy eyes. I’ll do my part. I pray to the spirits that you will yours.
A-net: …
(edited by Razor.9872)
A-net is going to give professions more access to existing weapons before adding new ones.
It sounds like you guys have no willpower to control your own actions. Just go do something else for the fun of it. Imagine that: FUN…in a game! Ha!
I just want to say that if the next update holds another environmental hazard boss encounter (ie. Frizz, Mai Trin, Null, Liadri, etc…) where my pet dies almost instantly…
I’m going to kick a kitten. It will probably be my kitten. Seriously, fighting handicapped is not fun. Neither for me, nor my group. Hopefully I will be wrong.

With the increase of enviornmental focused hazards, pets just aren’t set up right to be anything but a liability. Something, or lots of somethings, need to be changed.
I have hope the Ranger’s faults will be fixed in time. It’s just the trip there that many find hard to bear. If you enjoy playing your Ranger, then by all means do so. It will only get stronger in the future.
I’m a Ranger, but not a hunter.
Spirits don’t need a nerf.
Seriously, if anything, Ranger needs buffs/re-works.
Guradian hammer gets a blast finisher every 5 or less seconds…and they have near limitless light and fire fields to throw out.
Someone may need to explain to me why Maul being a blast finisher would be overpowered. Compare it to the Guardian Hammer #2. Same 5 second cooldown with better damage on a full 360 AOE and short gap-closer.
If you would say Maul has too much synergy with Healing Spring, I would answer Mighty Blow has just as much synergy with the light-field created on the third strike of Guardian Hammer’s auto chain.
Why the disparity? Both are defensive AOE weapons. Ranger Greatsword evades on auto, Guardian hammer does aoe protection on auto. Ranger Greatsword blocks, Guardian Hammer does a circle wall. Ranger Greatsword interrupts, Gaurdian Hammer Banishes. Why then is a 5 second blast finisher fine for one and not the other I wonder?
This. It would be nice to have the auto dmg buffed a bit too, but maul needs this. Also, the vulnerability needs to be 10 stacks.
I need 2 gifts of ice and a corrupted weapon…you could say my work is cut out for me :P
Hall of Monuments medium looks amazing for a charr ranger. That + a thief starter hood you transmute.
Two words: Boom. Boom. ;D
Pretty much this…
You engi’s and us rangers have been getting the short end of the stick for quite some time now. Hope things get better soon.
This is what I use:
Ok, let’s sum this up.
Yes, it is clear the Greatsword is used defensively for Rangers. Your pet will likely be doing as much if not more damage than you are. The Greatsword’s defensiveness comes from it’s utility, and skill from timing the skills;
Auto) a simple damage mitigation chain. If timed right, you can sync it with your opponents power attacks. The evade’s duration is pretty decent, allowing you to simply ignore many attacks without having to spent endurance. That being said, the evades are less precise than the Sword/Dagger. It would be nice to have another effect in this skill’s second swing to buff the pet in some way, but that’s unlikely to happen. Would be nice if the damage was buffed somewhat, since this really is the only damaging attack next to Maul.
Maul) this is likely the skill that needs the most work. It’s simply sub-par. The vulnerability needs to be buffed to 10 stacks, and it would be awesome if it was a blast finisher. Giving this skill the ability to apply fury to your pet would be nice too, but not at the cost of a longer CD. Bottom line: needs work.
Swoop) generally positively viewed skill. It is one of the best gap closers in the game, has decent damage for its purpose, and is a leep finisher to boot. Its long range also makes it equally amazing for escapes. Lighting Reflexes shares good synergy here. Because the auto’s evades aren’t always reliable, having that extra active evade makes all the difference. Swoop allows you to immediently re-close the gap created. Much like Monark’s Leap re-closes Hornet’s Sting on Sword #2.
Counter Attack) while many may not find this skill to their tastes, it is actally very versatile. It’s primary function is to disarm and riposte with an unexpected knockback. This can be used to counter pesky thieves, raging warriors, and determined guardians from doing anything tricky. In PvE, many newer enemies have big wind-ups, which this counters nicely. As a bonus, it can be used for near immunity to damage at ranges out of melee. It can allow you to dust off the initial volleys from engineers, elementalists, and pistol thieves. Even AoE is nothing to this skill. Furthermore, when necessary, it can be changed to a ranged cripple with decent damage. This is often a big help against kitting eniemes. Thankfully, a recent patch now allows us to move while tossing — a great change.
Hilt Bash) this skill is similar in purpose to Counter Attack, but more pro-active in use. It is used to stop skills before they happed [such as a heal], or momentarily root an enemy in place. While not much, it is also worth to note that this skill can function as a mini-mini-gap-closer. The 50% damage boost on next pet attack can be synced with some nice pet attackd as well.
To be clear, yes: the weapon does need more buffs. However, many fail to see the versitility of the weapon. From my experience, it works even better when you are coupled with high amounts of regen. And taking the Martial Mastery trait from the Wilderness Urvival line makes the CD’s, and the number of situations you can counter, much better.

I just had an idea to make the longbow more appealing. But shortbow rangers probably wouldn’t like it. First, make all longbow attacks pierce by default. Second, change piercing arrows to: +10% critical damage while wielding a bow, arrows inflict vulnerability (3 sec) on crit.
I feel like this helps to define the longbow as a weapon, without rendering the piercing arrows trait redundant.
I…don’t think this is true. My LB doesn’t pierce.
“In the future”
Almost a year ago people were saying that as well :P
Yeah, still, in A-nets defense, their resource availability has been hell the past year, due to them having to adjust to the playerbase’s needs and lay down the rest of a groundfloor. Since that has passed, I’d expect bigger and better patches coming our way.
Yeah, the bug has been there for a while. Nothing new. The only way to kill us is to burst us down before we gain access to our 3rd skill. Or, CC the pet away while hitting us. In the future, A-net will fix that bug, and probably grant the ability to “finish” enemies underwater.
Lol, chests? I think you mean breasts XD
I simply want small cosmetic mounts. Nothing to distracting, and nothing that grants a speedboost. I just want them for looks.
