Hopefully your friend wasn’t expecting Entropy back. Even if you unlock the skin by right-clicking and choosing “unlock skin,” rather than equipping it, the weapon becomes account bound.
If that wasn’t the case, I’d just buy a ton of weapons off the trading post, unlock their skins for my account, then sell them back. It’s this “one unlock per weapon” restriction that allows weapons skins to maintain their value.
OP needs to relax.
I’ve never brought myself to buy a infinite gathering tool or an infinite salvaging kit, but they seem extremely popular, so there’s obviously appeal there. Whether or not it makes economic sense versus just buying the materials / salvage kits, I don’t know, but if it was just out-of-touch money-grubbing, people wouldn’t be buying so many of them.
I have mixed feelings about it, same as I had mixed feelings about outfits killing the concept of looking like your weight class. Customization is great, but visual identity is underrated, too, in my opinion.
They changed some animations a while ago “to reduce visual clutter,” the idea being, as you guessed, that it would make it easier to see what’s going on without so many large effects going on. You can give your feedback on it in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Visual-nerfs-Merged
I think there’s been some talk about implementing a “special effects intensity” setting to deal with the issue, although I don’t think anything is set in stone yet, at least publicly. I’m hoping it’ll be in the April update, but we’ll have to wait and see. Can’t hurt to add your voice to those giving feedback about it!
Krait iss exsseedingly interessted in this prosspect.
Tonic gliding is the best. <3
I do have one character with a name taken directly from a book/movie. I was pretty surprised when it actually went through, since I just did it on a whim, but it’s a name I really like, so strike one up to lucky chance.
Some of my characters just have normal-ish first name, last name combos. There’s not a whole lot to say about them.
My favorite of my character names, however, are epithets.
*The Storyteller <—My main, an old man elementalist. People sometimes ask him for stories in game, so I improvise, which is a lot of fun.
*The Young Coward <— A norn guardian with a permanently fearful look on his face. Props to the character editor for pulling that look off.
*The Grinning Willow <— A sylvari engineer with a bit of a weird smile
*The Faultfinder <— A cranky asuran warrior
Those names let me tell people a lot about a character in very little space, and it’s usually not too hard to find one that’s available.
I don’t think that’s likely to happen. Like them or not, purple butterflies are a key part of the Mesmer aesthetic in this game, and what sets them apart visually from Elementalists or Necromancers. It’s like asking for Guardians to have red flames: they wouldn’t look quite so much like Guardians anymore, without that Guardian color scheme. (Although, that could be a sweet elite spec somehow.)
I can’t help with the purple if you’re not into that, but it might help to know about some of the symbolism oriented around butterflies. They’re popularly connected to chaos theory because of the “butterfly flapping it’s wings causes a tornado across the world” idea, and they can be a symbol of transformation or metamorphosis. They’re also an ancient symbol for soul or mind, so that the word “psyche” could also mean “butterfly” in ancient Greek. It’s smarter than it is tough, which suits Mesmers very well.
i would assume that might have been a serious part of it? kind of like making a game called the elder scrolls and having it be about pizza.
There’s no pizza in Elder Scrolls, to my knowledge, but there are guilds and warfare in Guild Wars 2.
To me, it’s more like complaining you don’t colonize the moon in Harvest Moon. I can see where you might get that, just from the title, but it’s not so specifically misleading that you’re excused from figuring out what you’re buying.
It’s like complaining that Sauron is barely in Lord of the Rings. It’s true, but the title isn’t trying to summarize the core of the product.
I dislike the “it’s explained in the lore” response, because it’s totally unnecessary in my eyes. It’s like asking why we never see the character put Pokémon in their pockets, or why Starcraft does not, to my knowledge, have you constructing stars. It’s silly.
Read the lore.
you don’t attract new players expecting guild vs guild pvp by denying it to them with the ‘but it’s the lore’ excuse.
…Did anyone seriously purchase this game because they saw the title and assumed it meant guilds would fight other guilds in a GvG PvP mode?
Because if you did, c’mon, do a little more research next time. There are guilds and there are wars, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the game is focused one gameplay mode by that name.
Oh no, not this again.
I never even joined a guild in Guild Wars 1, and I had a great time. Remember that the game is a lot of different things to different people.
I’ve used the Dry Bones armor on a couple characters before, so maybe it just clicks with me. It’s not explicitly “bird” themed, but it has a lot of feather-like fringes, with a bird skull on one side and a bat wing on the other. It’s a non-obvious choice, but I like it.
It is not.
I mean, never say never, but I think they’ve been pretty clear that there aren’t any plans in the works for a return to Cantha. They’re focusing GW2 on Tyria (the continent,) and they’ve deliberately left open areas like the Crystal Desert and the Far Shiverpeaks to probably explore in the future.
People like Cantha, and I think there are bound to be devs who like it, but I think they’re just trying to focus on one region in-depth, instead of splitting between Tyria, Cantha, and Elona.
She looks good!
Of course, there’s always my favorite staff skin...
I see where this is going:
My game company could totally beat up your game company! And Anet’s game company!
Oh, wait, I don’t have a game company. Hrm.
Being able to choose a voice would be great, but I’m skeptical that it would happen. Besides the storylines, there’s a lot of incidental dialogue in the open world with HoT, and then you have a lot of profession-specific voice-overs for skills. When you factor in additional languages, you can see how having multiple voices per gender, per race, adds up to an enormous amount of dialogue.
I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would very expensive, and it’s interesting to consider why that is. There’s a lot of dialogue, when you look at it all.
I was never collecting for legendaries, but I enjoy playing the HoT maps anyway. I think they’re usually pretty fun (although it can be tricky getting onto a “good” map,) there are plenty of miscellaneous achievements to go for, I’m training masteries (especially gliding, which can be used outside HoT areas,) I’m doing the “new” world exploration for the fun of it, and it’s a good place to train specializations.
I can’t say how much gold I’m making per hour, or how that compares to other farms, but there are non-legendary reasons to play in Magus Falls.
I would say Adrenaline Mushrooms. I haven’t gotten to either yet, but those seem useful in a variety of situations, while Nuhoch Alchemy is much more limited. Chak acid is rough, but it’s not like Agony, where you have to counter it or you’re going to die for sure.
Do World Bosses. I think you also get Dragonite from HoT map events, but I usually have a lot more than I need from doing World Bosses frequently.
If there’s a daily such as Daily Shadow Behemoth, or Daily Frozen Maw, those are a pretty good source of bonus Dragonite as well.
That seems…risky. I think of how much of a disaster it would be if my employer brought in a volunteer to “assist” me with my work in any meaningful way. It wouldn’t save me very much time, unless that person was skilled enough and committed enough that we might as well be paying them as an employee.
Volunteers are great for a lot of things, but they’re not free employees.
Bluntly, we don’t know. They haven’t announced that kind of detail yet.
I think LS2 was largely considered to be a success, so that’s probably the case, although I believe they’ve already said that you need HoT to get LS3. It’s unclear whether you’ll still need to log in for it, or if you’ll just receive it all automatically if you have HoT.
Edit: It seems I stand corrected. See Healix’s post below.

I’m a little confused by your remarks about dungeons, since the Dungeons do have a set order for Story Mode, which follows the members of the disbanded Destiny’s Edge as they work out their problems and get back together. You don’t have a green story marker, but you do receive mail about them as you level up.
I mean, I know this is totally old news, but it seemed like a strange example to me when it’s already there.
Generally, they’re trying to phase out the event failures form the legendary collections. I’m not sure if there’s a thread about this elsewhere, but I know they’ve changed several things to be obtainable without requiring an event to fail.
That doesn’t immediately help your situation, but at least they’re working on it!
I like the new maps, but they do require a pretty large amount of time to play the map meta events. If you’re not sure how you like that, try playing Dry Top, or, especially, the Silverwastes for a while. HoT maps take the mechanical inspiration even further, so those maps make a pretty good preview.
Gliding is a ton of fun, and I found the story pretty enjoyable. There are some fair criticisms, although I’m hoping the Spring release (expected sometime in April, I think) to cut down on the grind a bit. We’ll have to see about that.
I haven’t done raiding, so I can’t say anything about that.
Hopefully they’ll do something about it. They made Gifts of Fortune salvageable after it was announced that the new legendaries wouldn’t be using them, and that was a great gesture and a very practical thing to do.
People are still going to be mad, but if there’s a time for a positive gesture, now is probably the time.
Weird, no one I know in game has a legendary or is working on one.
Hi, welcome to GW2.
Been here since beta, but thanks anyway.
What do you do in this game for 3.5 years if you’ve never made a legendary? After about a year that is the only interesting content left.
This is an amazing little case of perspective. I, too, have been playing since beta, and I’ve yet to even start seriously working towards a legendary. You’d be surprised by how many different ways people find to spend their time.
Actually, I don’t do WvW, PvP, Raids, or legendaries, so this entire list misses what I do in-game.
Hah! I haven’t done Golem lately, so I don’t know when that was added, but it’s probably for the best. As a ranger, it’s easy enough for me to fight from the stairs, without having an elevated platform where nothing can hit me to fight from.
I thought it was neat when I discovered I could get up there, but it was a cheap tactic just the same. They’re not going to block every cheap tactic, so there might still be some safe spaces, but I don’t mind them dealing with this.
But it’s very hard to argue that it’s not a broken promise and a loss of credibility.
“in small groups at regular intervals … until the full set … has been added”
As long as the full set is eventually added, there’s really no problem. They could release 2 weapons every few years and that’d still be true.
I feel like that’s refusing to take Mike’s statement at face value, and since he’s trying to let people down as plainly and honestly about the situation as he can, I think that’s doing him a disservice.
Never say never, but the core message here is “this is not a thing we’re working on anymore, and we’re sorry. Here’s why, and we hope you understand…”
It’s not "Hey guys! This is a lot of work, and we’re super busy, so it’s taking a while longer than we expected! Hang in there, and we’ll have them ‘When It’s Ready!’ "
I think the Dreamer is funny, but I’m glad that the shortbow is getting released, at least, because it’s always been more divisive. “Serious” alternatives are going to be available to for the Dreamer, Quip, and the Bifrost, so at least people who wanted something “cooler” can have it. (I think Bifrost is super cool, mind you, but I get why necros might not visually match a white-and-rainbow staff.)
Honestly, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone complain about the Moot before, so I’m not sure about that one. It’s a disco ball, but it doesn’t seem to rub people the wrong way like the others do, possibly just because it’s a scepter and it doesn’t shoot unicorns.
Its not a broken promises, we have some. Not as many as some would like, but we have new legendarys.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hot-new-legendary-weapons/
It takes a lot of work to craft these legendary journeys for release, so rather than take the time to develop the full set before releasing any of them, we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m willing to believe that, in the grand scheme of things, this is the right decision, even if it’s a problematic one. But it’s very hard to argue that it’s not a broken promise and a loss of credibility. A price of consumer confidence is being paid now, hopefully in return for greater consumer satisfaction down the line.
I’m going to continue to enjoy the game, and I look forward to future releases, but let’s call it what it is.
I could see an argument for making names unique to North America or Europe, if they’re not already, but individual servers is going too far.
I could easily make a free account on another server, grab someone else’s name, then cause all sorts of trouble.
I’ve never been a fan of people whipping out the manifesto in arguments long after launch, but for those who do put stock by it, doesn’t the legendary hiatus read as a course correction, to get back to less grindy, always-changing ideals of the manifesto?
The hiatus stinks because it’s a broken promise, but it sounds to me like it’s being done for the right reasons, too, if it’s going to happen. Precursor crafting is a huge grind, when you factor in the expenses involved, and while I still think it’s a great feature to have in the game, it’s not exactly aligned with the manifesto. There are trade-offs on both sides.
Well, you’re right about people being upset about this, and I think it’s totally fair for them to be upset. I’m not that interested in legendary weapons, so more devs elsewhere is actually good news for me, personally, but I’d be a lot less happy if, say, new fractals were being put on hold, or LS3 was getting scoped down, or something else that I’ve been anticipating alongside HoT, or even before it.
Thank you for giving it to us straight, at least. We like news, even if it’s bad news, because we all care about the game.
psst, it’s Gendarran Fields, not Kessex. XD
And it always will be!
It’s an airship. It could go a distance before crashing.
Uh, y-yeah! That’s what I meant. Wind currents, debris drift, so-on-and-so-forth.
Here I thought Kessex Hills was in bad enough shape without an airship disaster.
Not even the dragons want Kessex anymore.
It’s just putting certain gameplay needs over flavor needs. If certain enemies drop certain types of loot, people would be farming the good ones and ignoring the bad ones. Since regular mobs don’t scale, people would be competing against each other for loot, which goes against the GW2 ethos.
It might be less immersive for a wolf to drop a dagger, but it’s not unusual. I have the occasional, “Hah, why did that DEER have BOOTS!” moment, but I prefer that to the alternative.
If ascended armor goes up in effectiveness, won’t demand for it go up as well, increasing the price and throwing the price-effectiveness ratio out of whack again?
Kinda reminds me of people who say legendary gear needs a stat boost, and I’m going to apply the same argument: It might seem too expensive for the advantage it provides, but it’s still in high demand. No need to intentionally make the demand even higher.
It will be ok if they improved the stats. The economy will be just fine.
What purpose does improving the stats serve, though? Ascended armor is already in demand, yet people generally don’t need it. What’s the goal of making it stronger?
If the overwhelming opinion was “don’t make it, it’s not worthwhile,” that would be a problem, but people are making it, while not feeling forced into it unless they’re seriously into raids or fractals. That seems like a surprisingly healthy balance.
Thanks again to the people involved with this. Invalid trading post orders have long been a pet peeve of mine, so it’s great to have them cleared out!
We know there would be those who would stack a lot of effects, but hey, we can’t blame them for not having creativity! \o
Heck, if we just have one “special effect” slot, we don’t even have to worry about effect overload.
What happens now if you wear Nightfury, a Refractor, a Ghostly Infusion, and a Queen Bee? Does one override the others, or do you just shut down your computer get extra creativity points?
I’d like to see a “special effects” slot for things like Winter’s Presence, the Refractors, Preserved Queen Bee, and Nightfury. Currently, they’re a weird mix of invisible shoulder armor and jewels.
If they ever get around to adding 500 Jewelrymaking, I’d like to see it work in this space.
It’s kinda neat, but it’s absolutely huge, at least in the preview window.
~snip~
They need to do away with armor weights on the cosmetic side of things. There are several outfits that are undoubtedly heavy armor (Balthazar Regalia, Ceremonial Plated, Slayer, Ironclad to name a few) but can be worn by any class. My necro can walk around in Ceremonial Plated which looks the same on my guardian. Why limit us with individual armor pieces?
It’s a technical thing more than a cosmetic thing. As I understand it, some of it has to do with the rigging/animation of armors, and some of it has to do with the dye system. It might be possible to recreate the problem systems to make it work, but it seems Anet has deemed it unfeasible. People can argue about the value trade-off, but at the end of the day only Anet has the full technical scoop on it.
If anyone has an official statement they could refer to, that would be great. I know it’s been said before, but I don’t have a link, and can’t find one, despite how often the subject comes up.
Edit: Having said that, let’s try not to make this thread a discussion about mixing armor weights. That would be going way off topic, and there’s plenty of other threads for that.

Odd that you were asked to move so many times. I don’t always trust the “volunteer move” system, because it doesn’t seem to reliably put me on a better map, or even one that’s not about to close.
Just speaking for Tequatl, on NA servers, I never have any problems with it if I arrive in a map 10~15 minutes early. Even most 5-minute maps seem fine, as long as a person or two are in /map chat, trying to get defenses organized.
You really don’t want to switch maps during the fight. If you’re entering a map after Tequatl has landed, unless you’ve been spamming “join in Sparkfly Fen” in a party, it’s probably not a heavily-populated map, and the fight is already lost. Just get there a little early and stay put, that’s my advice.
Hellooooo! Welcome to the game!
I strongly disagree with changing this. The Fiery Dragon Sword has been on fire while stowed since launch, and if you like it that way, it seems pretty lame to have it changed on you.
I might still be bitter about them changing my Elementalist animations. Fire Pin =/= Fireball
I’m going to go out on a limb and say eyewear wouldn’t have stats, and would just be things like glasses, monocles, masks, facepaints, and scars. Kinda a neat idea, but I’d be concerned for all the clipping involved, and some of the hassle involved in the transition.
Like Tapioca says, I think it would be a lot of trouble for relatively minor payoff. A neat idea and a nice option, but I’m not sure it’s worthwhile.
You have to appreciate a resource node SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to reward the owners of unlimited sickles over those who use in-game coin sickles.
You can use copper sickles on Toxic Seedlings, but considering even orichalcum sickles cost 8c per use, and Mushed Spore Samples vendor for 17c each, you’re still making a profit regardless. I’m not sure this argument holds water.
If they make an armor set, it’ll only work on 1/3 of the classes, depending on whether they make it a heavy, medium, or light set. Mixing/matching weight class pieces is a topic that’s been done to death, so I’ll try not to get into it here.
Selling an armor as both an armor and an outfit sounds very confusing, and it’s not great business to confuse your customer. I’m pretty sure they’ve considered the argument you’re suggesting before, when they quit selling new armor skins in favor of outfits. I don’t have access to their sales data, but I don’t think they made that decision on a whim.
I actually use the Silverwastes heavy and medium armors, and I like the Leystone armor, even if I haven’t collected enough parts for it. Bladed doesn’t do much for me.
Meanwhile, I think the Ironclad armor looks goofy, and there are a number of other outfits (Slayers, Nature’s Oath) that I don’t care for. There are lots of cool designs as well, but it’s important to remember that armor tastes are very subjective. You could say “Most of the new designs are going to outfits,” and you’d be right, but I think it’s a stretch to say all the nice ones are outfits, while the in-game ones don’t get the same polish. That’s just not my experience, according to my tastes.
