Are there any comparable events that you prefer, the kind you’d like to see more of? Are you hoping for more relatively simple world bosses, like Golem MkII?
Just speaking personally, I really enjoy the complex events, since they give players a bit of a challenge to learn and perform different roles. I hope the next expansion (and maybe the Spring Update, for that matter,) scales back the meta-event madness, but that’s for other reasons. (Time commitment, finding a map, etc.)
Butterflies are also an ancient symbol for the mind in general, or the spirit, along with transformation and chaos theory. There are a lot of connections there for Mesmers.
I like that most places allow me to disengage, though, if I -really- need to get out. Let’s me recognize when I’m in over my head, fall back, and think of a different strategy, instead of just dying and waypointing. It’s not always -easy- to disengage, but it lets me control my own challenge.
Wanna know a neat alternative to disengaging? The heart vendor Kyra Sharptracker in the Plains of Ashford sells an Ash Legion Spy Kit for 28 karma (single-use). If you use it you become camouflaged (movement will break it)… but mobs will immediately disengage. The only drawback is you have to equip the kit, and then use it, you can’t just auto-use it from your inventory.
Best part is the kit is usable by all classes.

I may have purchased a hundred of those to have on hand for skill points, chests, and general shenanigans. ;D
My main can handle most things, but I know some specific parts of Orr that my alts aren’t crazy about. The risen horror in Karst Plains, the Eye of Zhaitan in King’s Passage, and the maze on Winterknell Isle are pretty rough.

For all the people surprised at the price wasn’t this skin originally free?
Now that you say that, the Devil Horns were originally free as well, then brought back for 200 gems, so I suppose there’s precedent there.
I think people are generally just happy to be able to get it again, regardless of the price, and the fact that it’s not higher is just icing on the cake.
Of course, people might be mad if it were, say, 400 gems. 200 seems just about right, in line with Festive Hat, Top Hat, Fuzzy Bear Hat etc. Compare with Glint’s Masks or Queen’s Masks, which are 400-500gems.
While I think the flavor of this idea is interesting, I think the cons outweigh the pros. I like racial skills, but they’re generally underpowered for a reason, so people can pick the race they like instead of the race that’ll be the most powerful.
Just for fun: Maybe a charr elite spec could be something like “Warband Leader,” which allows you to summon a charr minion or two to follow you and help out. Compare with the existing Charr elite, Warband Support, the elemental-summon glyphs Eles have, and the Thief skill, Thieves Guild.
If we do go to the Crystal Desert, I wonder what will be done to differentiate it from Silverwastes, and especially Dry Top. We’ve been in the jungle since HoT came out, but all of LS2 is in a super-dry environment.
Kralkatorrik seems to make the most sense, thanks to connections built with Glint and the Forgotten, but I’d almost rather see one of the others, if they offer a little more variation in environments.
For what it’s worth, the fact that it comes up so often means that a lot of people have the same idea. I still like the way things are, but a good number of other people have asked for the same thing.
Huh, I must have skimmed over the line about mounts. I don’t care either way about them.
Anyway, I still think reducing waypoints would hurt more than it helps. If people want to walk everywhere, they certainly can, and it’s fun to do so sometimes. That’s not always what I want to do, however, and I think trading that option away would be sacrificing mechanical fun for an artistic ideal.
I feel the same way about games that include currency in the weight my character can carry. Yeah, it’s realistic, but “realistic” and “immersive” aren’t necessarily enjoyable.
This is not a suggestion I agree with. It’s nice to slow down and walk places, but if I have a waypoint, that means I’ve already walked somewhere, on foot, on that character. There are times I’d rather just get where I’m going, whether that’s an event or someplace unexplored, without having to retread a well-beaten path.
I like retreading paths. I have my favorite places that I like to revisit, and it’s part of the fun of a new character, for me, to see the land with fresh eyes. If you want to walk places and feel “immersed,” go for it. Write your own rules about waypoints. Sometimes, however, I just want to get where I’m going.
Sounds a bit like the Shadow Behemoth achievement for closing portals within a certain time span. It’s not necessary to win the fight, or even close to necessary, but every now and then I’ll see someone request that the map go for it. (I’ll try to help when they do, although since I already have the achievement, I rarely know if we make it or not.)
Some say this is inferior to the Halloween wizard hat.
Really? Because this one dips lower on the back than the Witch Hat, I’ve always found it a lot easier to use, since it’s not as obvious that your hair disappears.
Don’t forget that we have Lunar New Year. It’s not a big festival, like Wintersday or Halloween, but as long as we’re talking about small festivals, it doesn’t do to forget the one we have.
Personally, I’d love to see Dragon Bash return. It’s been a few years since the last one, and we did bash another dragon…
There are many skins pointing upside-down or from the wrong side (leftside-right?) – mainly bows. I didn’t even consider posting a ticket about it because I know ArenaNet doesn’t have time for simple fixes like that.
Pretty sure that only happens with previews. When the character actually wields the weapon, they hold it in the correct hand. I use a longbow on my ranger, and preview always shows it in their right hand, even though they actually hold it in their left. For symmetrical bows, it doesn’t matter, but it can give a confusing impression on, say, ascended bows, which have a sort of guard on one side.
The Mordrem Bloom event was a miserable time, so even if you like those skins, be glad you missed that one. It was bad, and I wouldn’t count on seeing it again. (Which is a shame in same ways, because it was a great idea to let us get at some of those LS1-themed items again.)
Try posting in this thread, if you’re interested in getting them back in the gem store:
Requests: Bunny ears and formerly-released items
Scarlet’s Grasp and Scarlet’s Spaulders reappeared earlier this month for the March Sales, so you should keep an eye on that!
I think useless birthday scrolls are just a fact of life. It’s so easy (and enjoyable, really) to go from 1-20 that I’ve forgotten about skipping it before. Level 30 scrolls are useful, but once I have a level 80 of each class, that usefulness wears off for the most part.
Bet they’re great for key farming, but I never got into that.
That’s not confirmation. Unless a dev has said somewhere that you roll chance for “bonus guild hall loot” in addition to the normal loot roll, I don’t know for sure whether it’s really a bonus or not.
I don’t particularly care, because I’ll keep doing Tequatl either way, but I’d rather not assume anything, and I’m interested in how it actually works.
But it’s just a statue. And it’s bonus loot. OP you didn’t “miss out on ascended” because you got that.
Do we have confirmation on this? It would be great to know for sure that when I get a statue piece, I’m not missing out on, say, a spoon or an exotic accessory.
I think it’s weird that they changed it from the previous game, but I wouldn’t recommend changing it this late in. There might be people who like the new version better, and after three years, it seems a little late to rock that boat. If it looked substantially worse than the original, like it was obviously wrong, that might be one thing, but I’d say it looks about the same, just different.
Vulkan came up in an AMA recently. There are no plans to change graphics engines, such as to DirectX12 or Vulkan. Sorry!

Huh, wha?

I’m all for giving Eles/Engis weapon swap outside of combat, but in-combat weapon swap would be nuts, and I main an Ele.
Which you already have.
Not really, unless you consider everyone to also have armor swap, accessory swap, etc. I’m referring to “weapon swap” as a specific mechanic, where you get two extra equipment slots and can use a keybind to switch between them. Eles and Engis don’t have that.
Again, in-combat would be too powerful, but outside of combat would just be more convenient, considering we can already do it manually. They did improve it semi-recently, at least, so that swapping from two 1h weapons to a 2h weapon will try to keep the two 1h weapons together, instead of dropping one at the top of your inventory.

…I didn’t quite follow some of your post, but you might be glad to hear that they’re working on adding Raids to the LFG tool. No details on whether that’s simply a new section being added to the LFG, or whether they’re adding more features like 10-person groups.
I recently finished collecting Mistward skins, and I didn’t mind it. Nuhoch language was the last barrier for me, too, since I hadn’t been training that line much, but it wasn’t too bad a grind once I focused on it. (I say “grind,” but I’ve been varying between HoT map metas, map exploration, and achievements like A Study in Gold. Didn’t really feel like a grind, just for Nuhoch Language.)
Of course, I’ve already completed the HoT story, and leveled up some of my other masteries, like gliding, so Mistward Armor was more of a late-term goal than something I went for right off the bat.
For a chest piece, Forgeman and Flame Legion definitely look armored, and Acolyte or Illustrious could also fit the bill with the right dyes. Diviner and Leystone also work, if a person wants armor that still shows a certain amount of skin. Seer might work, with the right dyes, although it might be a little difficult to match other pieces with.
You sound like you already have shoulders picked out, but for gloves you have some vambrace-style options, including Fogreman, Armor of Koda, Seer, Bladed, and Leystone. If you want some heavier gauntlets, look at Drybones, Hellfire, Radiant, Flame Legion, and Fused Gauntlets.
You’re probably most limited on pants, if you don’t want a dress/robe-style outfit. Ascalonian Performer might be your best bet, or maybe Illustrious, especially if you choose the Illustrious chest piece as well. Embroidered comes very close to being pants, but they don’t really fit an armored look. Vigil pants might work, depending on how much skin is okay and how “mobile” the character concept is.
Male armor has more in this area, but even then, light armors just don’t have a ton of pure pants.
Oh, hey, thanks for the reminder! Totally forgot.
I’ll be glad to have the hour-later Tequatl again, since I can make that more frequently than the hour-earlier version.
It’s a little funny, but unfortunate, that repair canisters get such a bad rap. I’ve never bought any, because they’re rarely useful and they’re readily available in-game, but you would think it was a personal insult to put them on sale, given the response they’re getting. Not everything in the gem store is exciting, but I assume someone out there is buying repair canisters.
I keep seeing people saying ArenaNet has lied about this expansion, and haven’t delivered.
I just got back to the game last week, can anyone enlighten me on what promises they have gone back on? Or is everyone just whining for the sake of whining?
I can’t think of any promises backed up on. Maybe legendaries are not out as fast as people hoped and season 3 is slow as well but what they said they did come through on. No promises of easy mode where made for the self proclaimed nor super death for those others.
I think it’s less “They lied!” and more “It didn’t live up to the hype,” for a lot of people. Precursor crafting and scribing are both very expensive, so that discourages some people from getting involved with them. Others might not be in guilds, so the guild features don’t affect them. The HoT maps are very interesting, but require looooong event chains (bad if you disconnect!) and the LFG tool is desperately in need of a rework to accommodate them. Everything is pretty grind-intensive, especially masteries and specializations. They reduced the numbers for both, and there are plans for other improvements, but that’s just another thing that people feel was underpolished or unfinished.
Considering we went a year with minimal content updates between LS2 and HoT, I can see why people were a little let down by HoT. I enjoyed it a lot and don’t regret the purchase, but that’s a lot of pressure, and HoT was a little shaky in a lot of areas. I’m hoping the next expansion learns from some of the pitfalls this one experienced, and it sounds like they’re at least aware of the problems.
Not counting game crashes, it’s so rare for me to be automatically switched that I assume it’s some kind of bug/server error when/if it does happen.
I have been playing around in HoT maps more lately, and I haven’t been super impressed by the volunteer-switch system. Seems like the maps are often worse than the one I’m on, I lose my map participation, and there have been times when I switch, only to be told five minutes later than my new map is also closing. Get it together, volunteer system.
I’m not talking about right after a map meta finishes, either, when you expect populations to be changing rapidly.
Honestly, I probably will. That could still change depending on how LS3 goes and what features they show off leading up to the next expansion, but GW2 is one of my major hobbies year-round, so I can stomach $50 to expand on it. With HoT, I’ve had sufficient fun with the storyline, new maps, masteries, and gliding to justify it, even if it falls short in areas.
I’m usually very frugal, but you should spend your money where you spend your time.
A month is a long time, so I’m still holding onto my gems in the hope that something more to my liking will turn up in the sale later on. We still have the better part of three weeks left, as of today.
Sorry, your options are either the Total Makeover Kit, or the Self-Style Hair Kit. If you just want to change your hair color/style, the Hair Kit is the cheaper option, but if you want to change anything else (even if it’s just your eye color,) it’s either a Total Makeover Kit or a new character.
That probably feels like a waste, if you just want to make a small adjustment to your character, but I wouldn’t want to see a “Self-Style Nose Kit,” a “Self-Style Eye Kit,” etc. Two options keeps them easy to understand.
You may already know this, but you can exchange gold for gems in-game, without spending real-world money. 350 gems is approximately 64.g65s at the current rate. It’s not cheap enough to just do it on a whim, but it’s doable if it means a lot to you.
Edit: Looks like Behellagh beat me to it.

To confirm what Vayne says, there’s no way to get the Selfless Potion now. Heirlooms were from the Escape from Lion’s Arch event, which ended a long time ago, and Mordrem Blooms haven’t been available since their event ended, either.
It’s unlikely the Selfless Potion will be added to the gem store, since they generally don’t sell rewards people have gotten in-game before, especially Living Story rewards like the Selfless Potion. It’s one thing to make the reward available again, but it undercuts the achievement if they just sell it.
Hopefully they’ll bring it back sometime for the people who want it! (And, if they do, hopefully that event will be nicer than the Mordrem Bloom event.)
I think they’re pretty crazy, but pretty cool, too.
Is there any lore-tie in to them? Nothing in GW2 springs to mind, although there are plenty of areas I never went to in GW1.
You have the entire main game for free, all the features with a few less starting bags. and your getting bent over an advertisement.
Unless a person paid for the core game, just not HoT. That’s not unusual.
u can buy the expansion pack and it will go away.
Really? Because I have HoT and the notice about raids is still there. It’ll go away eventually, but this suggestion isn’t helpful.
I don’t mind notices about Raids, PvP tournaments, etc., but I can definitely see where they could rub a person the wrong way. It would be nice (if not essential) to be able to turn such things off, to clean up the UI a little.
It’s an interesting idea. Specializations can already be required for using types of equipment (specialization weapons,) so it’s not too far-fetched an idea that applying a profession could disable your current armor class and enable another one. As long as it’s done as a whole, it would avoid the mixing-and-matching problem, while opening up new looks for people.
Counterpoint: One of the problems with ascended armor is how difficult it is to build additional sets for alternate stat builds. Needing to build an additional set(s) for a specialization in a different armor class compounds the problem. Also, it might make balancing even more difficult, if, say, bunker eles suddenly have access to heavy armor.
If you can use the stats from Travelers, I like them a lot more than Superior Rune of Speed. Yeah, Speed will give you +30% swiftness duration, but when you have a permanent 25% increase to movement speed, swiftness becomes a lot less valuable. (Movement bonuses generally don’t stack, so you’d only go 33% faster, not 58% faster.)
Meanwhile, with Traveler runes, you get bonuses to all stats, including condition duration (10%) and boon duration (15%.) Swiftness is a boon, so Rune of Speed really doesn’t have much of an advantage even in that department.

Oh, yeah.
Today is gonna be a good day.
(Thank you, whoever implemented this!)
Final Fantasy Red Mage cosplay?
No, but if they’ll give Elementalists one-handed swords, I’ll be totally on board with it. ;D
Oh, yeah.

If the first time I see the word “unique” is on an item that only has one slot (back pieces) or can’t be equipped at all (trophies,) it doesn’t make any sense to assume the word has any special meaning, much less that it means you can only equip one of the item at a time. Even if you’ve seen that in other games before, it’s not used consistently in this game.
A toggle for gliders would be great. I haven’t had too much trouble with it, but I haven’t been doing a ton of Core jumping puzzles lately, either.
I know holding space doesn’t make me jump higher in this game, but too many other platforming games have trained my hands otherwise.
Awesome. Way to go, programming team!
“Unique” is a terrible signal, not just because it’s never explained in game, but because it shows up on many items (back pieces, amulets, and trophies that aren’t even equipment) where its function is inapplicable.
I first saw it on Mad Memoires, which is a backpiece that’s loaded with flavor text, so I originally figured it didn’t mean anything functional at all. I never had a problem with ascended rings, because I use the forum and use the Wiki a ton, but I wouldn’t have assumed unique meant anything special for rings, after seeing back items and trinkets with the same keyword.
You’re not the first with this problem, and you won’t be the last, either. I know many veteran players are aware of it by now, but it stinks to waste that many laurels if you aren’t aware of it. Hopefully support can help you out!
Came here just to link Gaile’s post, which Just a Flesh Wound beat me to.
If you have a problem with someone, report it, block them, and move on. If you’re following them to see if they get banned or not, you’re giving them an unexpected and probably unhelpful amount of your time and attention. If you’re in a guild or playgroup with them, work it out or split off, just like in real life.
Reports get looked at, and people get in trouble, but, just like in real life, a lot of the time you won’t personally see the results.
I’m not sure what to make of this idea. While I like the idea of a “specialization weapon”-style scavenger hunt in Central Tyria, that sounds a lot like the precursor scavenger hunt in practice. (Albeit less expensive. Maybe the scavenger hunt for an unpopular precursor, like Venom?)
I don’t think “populating the dungeon part of the game” is a priority right now, since there is no dedicated dungeon team, no future plans to expand on dungeons, and dungeon rewards were nerfed pretty hard.
See, Orpheal’s design, while thorough and interesting, is exactly what I don’t want. With that setup, I would only wear my favorite Halloween title during Halloween, while constantly switching titles based on what content I’m doing. I don’t PvP/WvW, so I would NEVER use my Hall of Monuments titles. That’s a real bummer.
Instead of everyone wearing the title they prefer, wherever they go, you’re going to have tons of people all wearing the same titles, based on what gives the best return on the area they’re in.
