Multi-team kill count was fun on scarred earth back in the day, don’t see why it wouldn’t be fun now.. Still not sure why the pulled that map from the HA rotation.
People would stall so hard, and hide around in all the different corners of the map and it would take forever for the match to end.
That said, it was always a really fun map to play on.
I am one of them, i wont touch S/TPvP in its current form, its just SO boring and so unbalanced that is not fun in any way shape or form. WvW is the ONLY way i will play PvP it is pretty much the only thing i play in the game other then the odd event outside but at least 90% of my day is spent in WvW.
I just think its funny how a WvW player thinks s/tPvP is “unbalanced.”
“boring” I can perhaps understand. “Unbalanced?” Even more so than WvW? Really?
Basically what sacrx says is true. They don’t even test any of this stuff.
TBQH, we all saw this coming, posted vehemently on the forums about it, and yet no one listened.
spvp is dead, now they’re trying to kill wvw. I guess GW2 really is going to be a casual pve scrub-only game.
Thief is probably theweakest class for the sPvP format in general.
It is the only class that cannot hold a point in a point-cap game.
Yes there are ways to make them work, but they’re not condusive to the sPvP format, and generally require another player/class to work with.
In a 1v1 situation, the thief as a class usually cannot hold its own vs any other class.
This is coming from a Top 100 NA team queue, top 50 NA solo queue player that considers Thief my main.
That, and lets be honest here. A majority of players in this game are absolutely terrible at it. The thief class is simply the least forgiving when it comes to making mistakes.

Well, apparently I can’t link the video here as I might be banned for it.
However, I will say that anyone that is interested in sPvP should go to the Guild Wars 2 Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/) and read the topic “Sacrx talks about Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet and WvW. A thorough video with information from pre-release.”
This is mostly a WvW player’s Point of View, however he brings into light a lot of disturbing information regarding the development of the game, for both balance, sPvP, etc.
I think this is definitely worth listening to for anyone playing this game.

I’ve got a better idea: transplant some sPvP/WvW builds into PvE. Make a boss that’s a Mace/Shield +GS warrior, a boss that’s a Dagger/Pistol thief, etc. Reduce their HP but give them meaningful heal skills and such. I think the biggest challenge would be programming them to fight in a convincing way.
Here lies the partial solution.
GW1 provided challenge because GW1’s PvE (for the most part,) was designed to teach players how to PvP, and the end-game in GW1 (again, for the most part) was initially designed to BE PvP.
Throughout the years that changed, but at least for Prophesies and Factions, this held mostly true.
Mobs used player skills, and at the very basic level, performed like players would (auto attacks, skills to interrupt, healing, CC Into burst, etc.)
Come Guild Wars 2, PvE has changed. The “end game,” in PvE is now designed to be PvE. Mobs have their own attacks, completely unrelated (again for the most part) to player skills, and the combat system has frankly speaking, been dumbed down. At the end of the day, PvE is boring, and fighting dumb AI using inefficient skills just in order to cater to casuals leads to a boring game.
Make combat in PvE more like PvP. Again, have mobs autoattack much more frequently. Have mobs interrupt key player skills, dodge, heal, focus targets and burst, use boons, conditions, strip boons, etc.. Use player-skill mechanics. Not dumb mechanics like Defiant.
Have the mobs scan player’s stats, decide who has the lowest effective HP, and have 1 Nightmare Courtier come from stealth and backstab him right off the bat.
Have 2 more Nightmare Courtiers drop poison on the downed body, and cleave with Necro Marks and Engi Grenades while the team is trying to res,
Have 1 with a hammer spamming Warrior Knockdowns and Knockbacks on the corpse
And to top it off, have a final one with stability stomping the downed corpse.
In effect, have a PvE designed around teaching players how to PvP. PvP doesn’t need to be the end game anymore, but it sure as hell would make a much more entertaining PvE experience. You wouldn’t even need the ridiculous inflated stats, and stupid mechanics like defiant that are everywhere in PvE.

What about the people who have no inclination to do dungeons or jumping puzzles FOR WHATEVER REASON would like an ascended weapon but are left out in the cold, if they are really wanting one of those items they are BEING FORCED into content they do not wish to be a part of and GOES AGAINST ANETs claim that you can PLAY THE GAME THE WAY YOU WANT. Yes I am getting an Ascended weapon.
You can still play the game the way you want. You just won’t get rewarded for it.
Everyone on this board knows about the controversial Borderlands Bloodlust update coming out next week, and each individual has their own opinions regarding whether this is a good update or bad one for WvW.
However, I would like to bring to light another topic regarding Borderlands Bloodlust. The fact that capturing/defending/holding Borderlands Bloodlust provides absolutely no rewards to the individuals who capture/defend/hold the nodes.
The reasoning for no individual reward for this is simply the idea that the Borderlands Bloodlust buff in and of itself is a good enough reward for the whole server.
Unfortunately on an individual-roamer level, these buffs provide somewhat minimal benefit, and absolutely no reward, not to mention the impossibility for an individual roamer to cap and hold 3 nodes for 2 minutes. This basically leads roamers to simply ignore the Borderlands Bloodlust area completely.
As such, in the long term, after the initial hype-phase, I see the the Borderlands Bloodlust-areas of the various Borderlands being somewhat empty/abandoned. The only time players will bother with Borderlands Bloodlust will be commanders leading large zergs that will simply plough through the Borderlands to cap and hold nodes for 2 minutes before going on a rampage through the map/other maps, basically leading to even more zerg play.
I am just wondering what the WvW Discussion board thinks of this? Will this be an accurate prediction of what will come? If no, why do you think so?
tl;dr –
No individual rewards for Borderlands Bloodlust = No Roamers in the area.
Zergs will simply plough through and hold for 2 mins before moving off to other areas.
End of the day, Center of Borderlands will remain abandoned for the most part.

10/30/30/0/0 — Zerker when fighting Condi builds, Solider’s when fighting power builds.
Take III in DA — III, VI, XII in CS — IV, V , XI in SA. Force and Air on d/p with Energy on SB.
Skills: HiS for heal, Shadowstep, X (w/e you like), Blinding Powder, Thieves Guild.

I you lose any duels with this build you’re not as good as you once thought you were. This is the best duel build out of any duel build in the game. It, literally, cannot lose to anything.
While its true this build cannot lose to anything it cannot win very many matchups either.
CLEARLY shows BP+4HS really takes skill… very very few can do this stuff though, another Nerf for thief? ah i don’t think so… better Nerf the player’s skill
I’m pretty sure this is something everyone can do.
Coloxeus had clips of his S/D- S/D but he didn’t put them in. because the video would’ve been too long. S/D is inferior to my build. I won 5-0.
S/D isn’t “inferior” to your build. It just cannot win the match up. S/D S/D has a very hard time against anything with Pistol offhand simply because of Black Powder. On the other hand, S/D S/D can probably beat a few builds that would crush your particular build as well. At the end of the day, its Rock/Paper/Scissors.

What ever happened to players helping other players? This is the exact mentality that drives communities apart and makes everyone so hostile towards each other. Please explain to me how 65 gold is balanced in comparison to getting 4 laurels (under realistic circumstances).
It isn’t, and no where do I ever say that it is.
Fair is subjective sure, but there are many things that people can universally agree on as crossing the bounds. Let’s not delve into the philosophy behind what is fairness because this is a thread about a video game, not about philosophical ideals and beliefs.
I completely disagree.
Fact: 65 gold is harder to get than 4-5 laurels.
Depends what you are comparing, and how you are comparing. 65 Gold is (probably) far easier to get than 4-5 laurels if all you have is 3 days to acquire either (and you’ve already completed your monthly >____>)
That’s all that needs to be said about the issue and I think my decision is not ungodly at all…rather it is rational and economical. I feel that if we were in each others’ shoes and the game only had defensive infusion slots and you were questioning why Anet didn’t include offensive infusion slots, you’d be equally baffled by your own arguments.
If Anet had only defensive infusion slots in Ascended Weapons I would be slightly annoyed, but again, it does not take away from the fact that the option to have an offensive infusion in that defensive infusion slot exists.
I would also have to disagree with your arguments being “rational,” and “economical.”
What you are trying to do is put a gold-value on in-game character statistics. Unfortunately this is impossible. There is no amount of gold in the game that will give you that extra 5 vit/50HP you need to survive conditions that you can get from a Vital infusion for example.
(edited by Reikou.7068)
So I should have to spend 65 more gold an infusion slot because I want to support stat? So for my four weapons that comes out to 390 gold… seems like a great approach.
The option is there. You just choose not to use it. This is not the game’s fault. This is your fault.
I want it to be balanced. With rings and accessories it is balanced for both offense and defense. We both had access to one offense and one defense, we could choose to spend the money and use a versatility infusion for the second one. I have no complaints of that kind of setup.
With weapons it is just offense and thus an issue as it stands now. As you will see in my first post I suggested adding defensive to shields and making all two handed one of each, this balances the options between offense and defense.
Unless armor will be all defense slots, there is no balance by having only offense slots for weapons.
but it IS balanced. You can get defensive infusions on your offensive weapon slotted Weapons if you absolutely wanted to.
Do you agree that it’s fair and just for you to spend 65 gold per infusion slot while some players and specs get to spend 4-5 laurels to fill their influsion slots (which are without a doubt, A LOT easier to get than 65 gold from a casual player’s point of view)? If you think it is, then kudos to you but I’ve been playing this game since launch and I’ve rarely, if ever, had over 100 gold in my bank (now wallet).
“Fair” or not is irrelevant, because “fair” is subjective.
Fact. Versatile Defensive Infusions exist in game.
Fact. It is possible for players to put Versatile Defensive Infusions into offensive infusion slots.
And while I agree with many of your sentiments, they are all unfortunately subjective opinions that really don’t stand up the point that the option exists, but you simply do not want to use it for one ungodly reason or another.
That seems like a pathetic solution to a problem that was in no way created by the OP’s statement at all…rather by the shortcomings of the designers to include options FOR ALL TYPES of players. What you’re suggesting is INCREDIBLY inefficient and not his fault at all.
Would you REALLY spend 65 gold for an Omni infusion per infusion slot (especially considering most classes have two weapon sets)? Yeah…didn’t think so.
If it was indeed the BiS item for my character then yes, I would.
And while it would be nice to have cheaper and more affordable options, it does not discount the fact that the option exists.

you’re welcome.
They’re not making necessary balance changes to PvP because PvE scrubs can’t handle it.
Its been like this for a while now.
Best quote.
Jon Sharp: If you watch a lot of the PvE players who play an Ele, they a lot of times will stay in one element, maybe two. They don’t use all four, its just too much for them to play. They’ll stay in fire and just DPS stuff. They’ll switch to water and try to heal up. They don’t play all four. It is actually really hard for them to play unfortunately.
PvE players confirmed for scum of the earth and should be culled to preserve a decent gene pool. =D
(edited by Reikou.7068)
You’re doing it wrong. Go watch any thief in the top 100-or-so of the PvP leaderboards, and come back and tell me the Shortbow is a defensive/utility weapon.
(edited by Reikou.7068)
All this depends of the position and the mobility* you can see me when i pulled i was moving.
So… under what circumstances will I pull a target 100% of the time, and under what circumstances will I fail?
I’m just wondering if you can share your insights on how Scorpion Wire works?
A lot of the time I try to pull someone, it just like 0:45-0:47, where the opposing thief pulls you, and you don’t get pulled to him, instead you’re pulled a tiny bit and knocked down is all.
Why does this happen, and is there any way to prevent this?
Btw, you might want to rethink your trait choices in the critical strikes line.
SBI does not want any guilds from BP. Respect for DR but as far as all the other guilds go, keep em.
This attitude is why your server quits on you when you start losing.
Rofl. Seriously, from one SBI to another, don’t try to lecture others about bandwagoning scrubs. Its what our server is full of.
That said, has the average ability of DH players gone DOWN in the last month or so? First time touching WvW in a month due to playing Solo Queue etc, and it just seems like DH players have gone from being bad to worse.
(edited by Reikou.7068)
This all stems from the fact that the devs are woefully terrible at their own game. Pathetically so. Which is why they don’t recognize a problem when it smacks them in the head.
Jon Peters himself is rank 13 in PvP. After a year.
I don’t even know what else to say.
If you’ve ever played a lead dev of a fighting game, or a RTS game, while they may not be the absolute best players in the world, they will be able to put up a good fight due to knowledge of mechanics, etc.
But unfortunately, I really don’t think that the lead devs of GW2 even play their own game.
How to fix zerging for both PvE and WvW,
Remove unlimited shared loot and rewards.
Been saing it from day 1.
Perhaps make it so that only 1 parties worth of people will be rewarded for a champ kill for example.
Something like this would either completely eliminate zerg play, or make it significantly more engaging than it is now.
How would you deal with champ camping? Something that would very likely happen.
Or do you mean we should all just whack on the champ and then hope that we get anything? Like the RNG before the RNG? Sounds more frustrating at the moment (if I understand you correctly).
What is there there to “deal with” regardin champ camping?
You should all whack the champ and the top 5 contributors would get rewarded. Want loot? Up your game. Simple as that.

Mod jon_peters: you have to actively react to all the passive things going on
Mod jon_peters: so its still very reactionary and there is still a LOT of skill in spirit ranger

I would like to ask the devs, or specifically Jon Sharp these questions.
During development of Guild Wars 2, how did the devs envision high-level PvP would be played in both the micro(individual mechanical play) and macro (team strategy, rotations etc.) play?
Additionally, how close or far is the current iteration of the game from their ideal?
Finally, are they still pursuing their original idea for high-end PvP, or have they abandoned their original idea for how the game should be played, and if so, what is their new goal for how Guild Wars 2 PvP would be played?
Unfortunately I am not currently heavily involved in the “State of the Mists” project and do not know very many details about how exactly it is going to pan out.
I have linked this thread to someone who is more involved with it, and hopefully they can come and give some clearer answers in the next few hours.
From what I understand, SotG in its previous incarnation is not going to be coming back as Grouch, the host, sold us out and is now working for the enemy.
In order to fill this void, GuildWars2 PvP TV will be hosting a similar “State of the Game”-like program in the very near future, tentatively called “State of the Mists.”
Please tune into Guild Wars2 PvP TV at

Random Temple Generator. Whats new.
If you lose a 1v1 he was more skilled regardless of build/balance.
The reason being he chose to engage the 1v1 that he knew he could win, whereas you chose to engage a 1v1 where you didn’t know if you would win, or thought you couldn’t win.
tl;dr, don’t make stupid decisions.

Allied player icons will be fixed in the next hotfix! Apologies for the break!
We’ll watch the feedback for the new minimap to determine what other changes to make and directions to take. Keep in mind not every map has had its art updated. We focused primarily on maps being played at PAX.
Minimap’s icons are still broken. Whenever someone dies after you respawn, you no more see his icon.
On top of that mesmer’s clones are just standing, doing nothing, so that broke too.
Yup. Minimakitten till bugged and doesn’t show allied icons.
Basically I would like to know if I can complete the missions from Emissary Vorpp such as completing the 5 portal invasions and gathering the Portal Components on an alt character?
I know the communicator thing is soulbound and I am unable to acquire it on another character.
Does anyone know?
Thanks.
The new mini map is terrible.
They NEED to make it so that we can see all allied players on the mini map. This is unforgivable really.
It makes informed rotating in Solo Arena impossible.

Now we have cannon that says Sylvari are indeed smarter than Asura.
Sylvari are immune to Dragon Corruption.
Sylvari are able to glow…
I think its pretty much set that in Tyria, Sylvari are indeed the master race.
On NA at least, Skyhammer maps are suffering from massive lag spikes and disconnects.
I personally have suffered up to 30s+ lag phases where I cannot do anything which makes the map rather unplayable.
This affects both Solo Arena and Hotjoin, as well as both red and blue teams.
Please take a look at your servers Anet.

Basically topic.
Take the Crown Pavilion map as it is right now, remove all mobs, and turn it into an FFA PvP Area, with random-area spawns and a new scoring system etc.
Exploit
1. to utilize, esp. for profit; turn to practical account: to exploit a business opportunity.
2. to take advantage of; promote.
3. to use selfishly for one’s own ends.
(source Webster’s dictionary)I would say that this current farm meta falls into at least one of those three definitions, often times all three. I know the argument can be made that it is available for everyone to do therefore it is not selfish, and that holds true until the farm zerg berates people for attempting to actually play the game in a “normal” manner. Unless you want to make the case that you intentionally play to lose simply for the sake of losing, you can’t really argue for this not being exploitive.
Honestly, some people need to know the difference between an Exploit, and something being exploited.
This would be amazing.
Right now, I would say the average rank of “prominent” tournament PvP players on NA is between kitten give or take.
I am personally rank 48 at the moment.
(edited by Reikou.7068)
I agree, but any meta build feels rather faceroll if you are used to backstab Thief, though.
Uncontrollable AI has no business in PVP, if viable it only promotes passive play.
Steal+Mug+CnD+BS sure was a hard combo to land and deserved to oneshoot ppl?
If anything P/D was/is cheesy imo. If anything has promoted AoE it is backstab/stealth-builds … with S/D not far behind.
Bad players will always bring this up.
I’m sorry, but when it comes to backstab thief, its not about killing players.
Its about everything else that the thief does. Killing squishies is a given.
Going to post here and say it as well.
The majority of my Solo queue matchups have been on Temple.
e_e
Whut.
I don’t see why this is so complicated. Standing in a corner requires no skill. Yes, standing in a corner makes it easier to win. Winning doesn’t = skill. I could win a fight against Mike Tyson if I brought a gun.
And for the record, I do stand shamelessly in the corner with everyone else, but I don’t have convoluted delusions that doing so requires more skill than doing it the normal way.
If winning does not equal skill, then what does? What defines whether you are skilled or unskilled at the game?
P/D Condi stack.
If you don’t have carrion gear, just get green Masterwork stuff. It easily suffices to kill Liadri.
Played around with builds a bit more, and have come to the conclusion that S/P IS indeed the superior option.
This is the build that I am using as of now. 30s turnover time, with 5 gambits.
And what rotation do you use? Spam Pistol Whip?
1. Load in Arena.
2. Scorpion Wire Deadeye Dunwell
3. Pistolwhip
4. After the Pistolwhip Animation (the stun) of the Pistolwhip Skill, it should burn the 5 Initiative Cost. Steal here, right after the initiative burn, but before the slashing animation.
5. Look at the steal, and decide if it is worth using. If it is, use it. (Everything but the Blinding Tuft is worth using.)
6. Repeat Pistolwhip Spam, however, if your health does drop to be a little low, black powder and autoattack is a slightly more defensive rotation.
Unfortunately, the tournament won’t even be played at PAX. It will simply take place during PAX, but at a completely separate venue.
