Anyone for fight club this week? I will keep asking until someone shows up since I think we are still waiting on Reikou to fight torrid….I need to experience this SBI & Kaineng skill first hand b/c I sure haven’t seen it on the battlefield. Well, except for the great fight at the NE tower last night in SBI borderlands, however, we were slightly (/sarcasm) outnumbered. All this talk of skill and I’ve only seen one creative thing from you guys once. That’s hardly grounds to consider yourself better than DH.

I’m not particularly keen on being outzerged by repeat offenders.

Again my offer still stands. “skill,” really shouldn’t matter be it in the mists or in WvW anyway would it?

After all we are talking about skill in PvP and not the ability to 5v1 someone… right..?

Yeah i remember that 4v3 behind north camp. We both had an up lvl though so more like 3v2 honestly. We didn’t go into the camp we just killed you all. Actually we were killing you and you ran to those two and got them killed as well lol

You’ve tried to jump me three times in this matchup. I staked you twice, and I stood and laughed as my thief friend ran you off the third time. My only regret is that I didn’t realize it was you until a guildie told me later, so I have no screenshots of the flagpole I stuck in your head. (sidenote: you led off every time with SR-Bas venom. 2pro)

Sadly ‘top players’ does not always equal ‘flawless and relatively objective balance feedback aimed at improving game balance’.

Besides, using leaderboards to determine a top player is rather laughable, but if you insist on that, the calls should be put off at least until yoloque and premade que are actually separated.

I don’t think Anet should make an elitist restricted forum.

This game is not just for the top 100 it’s for everyone who plays it, newcomer and experienced player alike. If Anet takes an obviously elitist approach and refuses to cater to their more casual players they risk alienating them entirely.

The game may not be for the top 100 only, but lets be honest here. The top 100 know the game better than the other 99% of the population, and they prove it by being in the top 100.

Again, a place for concentrated “good player” discussion will definitely and absolutely help the game’s growth and population, as well as significantly increase the pool of game knowledge and ideas that float around.

Thats one side of the truth that noone ignores,in the other side tho a “top player” is a human,even tho he has better knowledge in many things also can make mistakes..

A lot of ego divas from a game that in the last Mists tournament had like 300 viewers..And the “top players” streams have like 100-200……You can barely make 100 ppl watch you and you want a special forum place?
I think i have one but i cant find where to put the throne…

Of course they make mistakes. But they simply make less mistakes than 99.9% of the population. Thats what makes these players good. No one is perfect. Its just how close to perfect you are that makes you better or worse.

Some people say good stuff even without being a top player, perhaps. But being a top player gives one an insight into the game that the majority of the population do not have. It is unfortunate but true. All Hman is suggesting is a place for concentrated “top player,” feedback without being drowned out by “Frenzy 100B OP!”

It will help with both new players coming into the game to easily be able to look at, and find opinions/ideas from the best, as well as provide more useful and relevant information and discussion about the current state of the competitive scene between players who actually play in the scene.

I really do not understand why people would be against something like this. Both boards, this one and the proposed board would easily be able to coexist.

Who are you to say whose opinion is valid and whose is not? What are your problem analysis qualifications? It is fine to state your opinion, but your attitude stinks. I absolutely HATE it when people disagree with someone and instead of engaging in an argument they just say “You suck, I am great, therefore my opinion beats yours”. Like wtf. It makes no sense. Part of me wishes I could sail through life with such conviction and confidence in my opinions. But then again I would be a pri.ck and everybody would rightly be annoyed at me. So maybe not. lol.

Grow up.

Dropouts don’t get invited to an Ivy, plebeians aren’t consulted by presidents, and those in poverty don’t get invited to Davos.

Keep it simple. If you’re not in the top X00 (a rank/rating that is respectable) of the PvP leaderboards for your respective region, you cannot post on the locked board.

End of story.

The qualification will be your leaderboard rank.

I was talking about this concept with a friend the other day, and at first I didn’t really like it. I like the idea of making minor, and even major changes toward your build based on how you play, and what you’re playing against. However, I think a system like this with ‘picks and bans’ might be the best way to really balance out the game. You can ban s/d thieves, shatter mesmers, or whatever you think is ‘overpowered.’ At the same time, you can only have 1 of a certain build, preventing stacking of things.

It might be cool to have a system in competitive play where you can ban certain utilities (ex. all utilities in the category of spirits), weapon sets (how would banning staff from necro change things up?), etc.

I want to say the game can just be balanced normally (because I felt like it was so close pre-patch), but at the same time we see powerful builds being created even without buffs to things (ex. spirit rangers). I like the variety that this game brings, especially since it allows you to do things like changing 1 utility or 1 trait that drastically helps during a certain matchup. But at the same time, is it realistic to believe that the balance will be good enough at some point? Idk.

The reason why I suggest pre-designed builds with everything fixed is because it allows for a solid control group and variable group.

If we have fixed builds for every class, all anet needs to do is pick one build that they want to have as a “control,” and balance all the builds in the available pool to the level of the control.

Perhaps as a compromise, allow for a few minor alterations from a limited section of alternatives, and not any major changes. For example, if you pick the “shatter mesmer” build, you cannot change the trait lineup of 20/20/0/0/30, but you are allowed to change the 10 in Dueling trait to from the Default “Far Reaching Manipulations,” to “desperate Decoy,” or “Phantasmal Fury.” Other options would not be available. However, for the 20 in Dueling, as the trait “Deceptive Evasion,” is key to the Shatter Mesmer build, no options would be available.

And this is why the forums are a joke most of the time you got those players who doesn’t understand the game or they think they do talking all kinds of things. They should just make a forum for the top 2% of players that spvp in Gw2…..

While it may sound incredibly elitist, I completely agree with you Hman. Anet should make a locked forum for only the top few percent of PvP players. I guarantee that the game would benefit significantly from something like this.

That said, there is one idea that I have brought up with various people to differing degrees of interest. How would the PvP community react if build customization was completely removed for competitive PvP.

When you enter competitive PvP with a certain class, you can only pick from one of three (Arbitrary number) pre-designed builds for that class. Everything from Weaponset, to utility/elite skills, to traits, to amulet and runes/sigils would be predetermined.

For example the Mesmer would have access to a pre-designed Shatter build, a pre-designed Phantasm Build, and a pre-designed condi build, and the player can choose to play either one of the three (or whatever arbitrary number)

I feel that this would significantly help the balancing of this game.

Perhaps anet could leave hotjoins/non-competitive PvP as it is, with free build customization and tweaking in order to discover new builds to add to the build pool, as well as for phasing out outdated/old builds.

DH has a lot of terribad commanders. I just hope they are learning from their mistakes.

Its not just commanders.

As a solo roamer, I really have to say that on an aggregate level, DH players are probably the absolute least skilled players I have ever come across from any server by no small margin. Between all the servers that SBI has faced, DH really stands out as being the absolute worst in terms of player skill. I dare to say, DH players are possibly even worse than SBI players, most of whom I have absolutely zero respect for (in terms of player skill.)

I think they need to get rid of shared loot and rewards completely in WvW.

Shared loot/rewards works in PvE because of mob scaling.

Opposing players/objectives do not scale at all, and thus, there shouldn’t be shared loot.

Reikou I think you are confusing open field fighting with roaming. I never even said that I was a great PvPer. I would consider myself mediocre. Stratagy I think I am good at however. So stop your trolling and trying to make pepole fit your mold. You will not get SBI to fit your “Perfect build runs” simply because of the type of server it is. Most of those “Perfect builds” require more then what you can expect out of the generic player base and only work in some cases.

I am saying that what I have seen in our server particularly Yulo’s group and some of the other commander groups are quite good at open field fighting. We don’t need any schooling on this matter from any other server we need to listen to our commanders who know how to do it. We also need more pepole on teamspeak(after we raise the cap). The open field fighting I am talking about is not the type of open field fighting that you are used to in sPvP. The type of fighting that you get in WvW.

As for wasting resources. I can kill a Dolyak and a sentry solo thank you and would never look for a party to kill one. As for camps… I need more pratice soloing them I would agree. However I go for the camps in a party because they go down faster and I like to play the timer on them I also am generally asking for only one more player then I. So that speeds things up just about enough that I can play the timer correctly. I also know the correct time to be with the zerg and the correct time to form a party to melt the camps.

So even you admit SBI has a HUGE L2P issue, which is a good start.

But ffs, I just played with a Guardian who thought it was best that someone else’s duty to be the primary stomper/reser in a team fight.

We work open field tactics just fine thank you. We are already a force to be reckoned with.

BP you need to work on your zerging. For you it is a all or nothing zerg. I rarely see havoc squads running around and when I do it is like 10-20.

This is kinda funny coming from someone who is always “Looking for 4 more,” to do anything and everything from killing dolyaks to taking supply camps to fighting another solo player.

Please.

The big problem with SBI right now is simply lack of PvPers. And when I say PvPers, I do not mean “PvPers” who run around with 20 other people spamming 1 everywhere.

Most players on SBI are running either random PvE builds in WvW, or some terribly inefficient incarnations of “PvP” builds.

A major lack of any sort of self-sufficiency in terms of general player ability on the world is also really hurting and needs to be dealt with. It is always “looking for more for X,” “Need more for Y,” and never, “I can do it myself.” Of course, things like taking a tower/keep/castle cannot be done alone, but things that should be able to be done solo should be done solo without wasting resources. Taking camps, taking sentries, even fighting 1-2 other opposing players.

I have an auto elixir S skill that pops it by itself. He bursted me so down so quickly it didn’t pop. I know the internal CD on it and I know that it was off of CD.

Stop relying on passive play.

This is the problem, and what is being discussed is obviously a huge L2P issue.

I’d also exclude someone from a group if they weren’t up to par in terms of player skill too.

Its nice to be around friendly players and all, but being friendly doesn’t get anything done.

There are enough mature and friendly players around, you don’t need all of them, so just pick and choose those who fit the criteria.

I knew this new matchmaking system was pretty kittened, but this matchup is even worse than I expected. Not only is this week a complete waste of time for 2 of the servers involved, SBI is actually going to go up in rating while getting slaughtered in WvW — does anyone at ArenaNet have a degree in Mathematics? Maybe just someone with some High School level math?

What a kittening joke.

Its more to do with the rating system they chose to use, which is clearly a very bad one for this sort of rating system.

the only damage control i’ve seen is you ceasing your steam, which was a good idea given your propensity to rage quit when downed in 1vs1 fights combined with the bizarre commentary (calling opponents peppermints and such…)

Commander Tags should be competed for IMO.

There should be a new rank-currency added to the game where players gain points by achieving objectives, and lose points by dying. Rank points are not shared amongst players, so taking a supply camp with 5 will yield far less than solo’ing a supply camp, etc.

Only the top 25 rank point players on a world get commander tags.

The only thing you need to quickly kill a thief is a better thief on your side.

Everyone else should just move along, you’re just wasting your time, especially if its those 30 shadow arts thieves. They can’t kill you, you won’t kill them. Waste of your time and theirs.

For your information, the 25/30/0/0/15 build is not supposed to be a 1v1 build. Its a gank glass cannon/Mobile DPS build meant to quickly kill targets and retreat.

You can win a lot of 1v1s if you simply out-skill the opponent, but amongst equal-skilled opponents, the 25/30/0/0/15 build is not very good.

The 10/30/30/0/0 build though is more of a 1v1 build, but the detriment here is that it has no damage and can be pretty much ignored, so you won’t really kill a lot of players unless they let you.

tl;dr, yes thief is underpowered and needs buffs.

I have participated in SOAC bf, team Elementalist and I only r22 at that time plus only spent like 3-4 hours per WEEK for PvP and I don’t think I am doing so bad either in the tournament. My goal, my aim is still SOAC and MMORPG.net Tournament but we don’t expect to achieve that by today or tomorrow. That is a Long Term plan. Plus many other players, including myself, have our real lives to take care of. We are not training for ESport Tournament like Starcraft or WoW or LoL. Their team is getting paid to train 5-6 hours day while we are not. So how does my team, what do they get for spending 5-6 hrs/day to train?If u can think of a way to cover that issue, please do tell. And I am being REALISTIC…

Alright, I see where the misunderstanding comes from.

Your plan is to be able to participate in small casually hosted “for fun,” type tournaments, and not so much for the big “for money” type tournaments that are coming up in the near future.

That said, those teams that are paid to train 5-6 hours a day had to get to that level somehow.

Thanks for the straight up, Reikou. Most of us don’t have that luxury time to spare. We most of us has real life to take care of as well. So 5-6 Hours per day is too much to some. And 1 hours/day is the time we practice together. People also has their own pace of practice. I should not forced people to strict schedule like that. Sure my aim is competitive play, but still fun is what more priority and people don’t have fun when being forced to do something. In my dictionary, my “Competitive” does not mean we have to be as Pro as Team Sleepy for example but more like a decent team.

I respect that 5-6 hours per day is a luxury that many cannot spare. However, you also brought up that you would like to participate in tournaments such as those hosted by SOAC and MMORPG.NET

For about Level, we aim at Competitive Level, Not Casual. As a team, we will participate on as many tournaments as possible, like SOAC or MMORPG.NET tournament.

And in order to participate in those tournaments and do well, you will need to play 5-6 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, and be as good as Team Sleepy, if not better.

I think it is important to be realistic regarding your goals and schedule, especially if you are looking to get dedicated players. It is important that both parties know exactly what they are getting into, and exactly what to expect.

I will ask you again, what level of play are you looking to play at, and what sort of practice schedule are you looking to have. Please give an honest answer.

Hi guys, Thanks for all the interests. This will be our schedule:

1/ We will play at night time between 7pm to 12pm AEST. Every night, we will spare at least 1 hour to do Practice, be it discussing strategy, builds, learning, teaching, hotjoin, etc… If we have enough members on, we can do some tPvP.

2/ During Weekend, Sat and Sun, we will mainly do some sPvP for long hours.

For about Level, we aim at Competitive Level, Not Casual. As a team, we will participate on as many tournaments as possible, like SOAC or MMORPG.NET tournament.

For about time frame, due to everybody is different in skill and desire, I would say no time frame at the moment. However, ONLY selected 5 will join in big Tournaments, for sPvP, everyone can team up but ONLY if you know your way around the Tourney.

For all the newcomers,news to PVP, you are encouraged to participate in practice time before going in any Tourney with other teammates.

Teamspeak, Mumble is required for VOIP during sPvP.

Warriors not viable in WvW huh? That’s an interesting opinion. I wonder if you are referring to roaming 1vX or something, because as part of a team/zerg a well built and played warrior can be quite beneficial. It’s also possible that I am so terrible at WvW that I am just missing some super obvious point. PvE warrior farming builds would be terrible in WvW, maybe that’s what you mean?

I don’t deny that a well built and played warrior can be beneficial. Having another body on the field is always beneficial.

The problem is that it is always outclassed by another profession, no matter what it tries to do.

Is there any situation in WvW you can think of where a warrior would be the ideal profession to fill that role? A role that no other profession could do remotely better?

This is the issue with Warrior “viability.” This is the problem with Warriors. Yes they can be decent, but the team/zerg/whatever would perform better if that player played another profession.

Unfortunately, those good players ANet listens to all seem to be the sPvP elite players, which is NOT a balanced opinion of ANY profession in a game with so many modes. Besides, with only point capture as the sole type of sPvP, that skews to certain skill sets and leaves other professions behind considerably.

This is one of the big reasons that professions that don’t do well in sPvP fare much better in WvW (mesmers and warriors, for example).

Except that you’re wrong as Mesmers are great in high level tPvP, and warriors are still bad in WvW. Its just that in WvW, most players are playing at such a low skill level that it gives the illusion that Warriors are “viable.” (They’re not)

“The problem I have with all this is that we can fight to have fun and all but the @^$&*s on servers like SoS (and I assume the old HoD) do actively go out of their way to ruin your day and make any type of fun not possible. They do not just want to win with the highest overall score at the end of the week they want to win by soo much that everyone quits and there is no resistance the following weeks. I assume this is how HoD maintained #1 while guilds like PRX and similar were there.

Last night [SF] saw this first hand. We tried to cap supply camps…they sent 50+ player zergs to cut us off and camp us no matter where we went on the map. We tried to change maps, they had 50+ player zergs on all 4 maps spawn camping all 3 exits from spawn and had roaming scouts at all camps and major road intersections that would have the 50+ player zerg ontop of us within minutes. There was no fun allowed no playing allowed if you wanted to WvW you were punched in the face and told “NO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE YOUR SPAWN!”.

Against a server like this fun is going to become not an option anymore as they will make sure you cannot even play WvW anymore they will force you back into PvE and sPvP. The only way to fight this is to have all 4 maps full with a queue as zerg vs zerg we will win, we have much better strait up fighters than they do. Without their rigid organization and tactics they have NOTHING. When not enough of us show up and they can outnumber us 3:1 or worse the game just becomes not-fun no matter what you try and do.

Sea of Tryhards will not be satisfied till they have 100% map ownership and have siege setup at all 3 exits of both us and JQ’s spawns on all 4 maps."

A lot of us miss those days in WvW…

A lot of people may not like this sort of situation (just as Kelo didn’t,) but to be honest, it just seems like he is making excuses, especially this particular quote.

If they outnumber you 3 to 1, all you need to do is win that 1v3. Its not going to be easy, but this is what PvP is about. Overcoming challenges and becoming better at the game.

This sort of mentality of “we’re better than them, just have less numbers,” and making excuses for losses still exists in SBI, and which is why I say that the SBI community is mostly PvE players RP’ing as PvP’ers.

^^ I’m sorry but I read your posts three times and still couldn’t clearly decipher the 3 factors or reasons that lead to guilds leaving SBI.

Free transfers closing? Well that’s not a reason by itself, you need a reason to leave.
Preserve the guild? Possibly. I understand.
No plan executed? No idea.

1. Guild Leaders weighed the pros and cons of each world, and decided Stormbluff was not for them. Specific reasons why are probably rather varied.

2. When WM left, there was a big drop in morale leading up to the exodus.

3. The SBI server community is mostly all talk and 0 action.

These are the 3 points I could figure out from Mayochiki’s post.

In all honesty, I think one of the major problems with SBI is that is has very few actual competitive PvPers, and far too many PvEers trying to roleplay as PvPers.

There is a lot of “play for fun,” going around, and very little “play to win.”

There are a few commanders who are trying to bring the community together and do have decent leadership. However on the flip side there is very little cohesion and coherence in the zergs that they lead (or “armies” as one likes to call them,) which in my opinion leads to a very half-hearted approach and mediocre results.

If you’re just looking for a group of people to “have fun,” with then I think SBI would be a pretty good choice.

However if you’re looking for a group of players that have a competitive spirit and want to get somewhere, then I cannot suggest SBI as a good server choice.

Meh, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s really no use trying to get a point across to this Reikou. His self-worth is obviously tied to this game and that’s why he feels the need to call people scrubs and zerglings (and of course fagg*ts, as can be heard on one of the videos), rather than post a sound and reasonable argument. Think he’s just one of those people with a lot of anger and/or low self esteem IRL.

I know this matchup has been going on for a time (and may continue still), but I’m still really enjoying myself in this tier. Met lots of cool people on all servers and had some great fights and duels. The “Reikou’s” seem to be few and far between and I don’t think he in anyway represents the attitude of SBI as a whole.

Keep up the good fights everyone!

Good for doing what in WvW? There are many good trait and gear setups for WvW. Its more important to know WHAT you want to do in WvW and build for it.

just want to be able to take dmg and staying alive long enough for enemies to fall, or run.

In what situation. A bunker guardian in 1v1 isn’t going to be able to cause “enemies to fall or run,” at all simply because of the lack of any sort of damage output.

If you mean zerging then any build will do it doesn’t matter, because all you do is spam #1 anyway.

So

Healing Power > Power = Toughness > Vit.

Precision/Condi Dmg/Crit Dmg are all rather useless for a bunker guardian because they do not help it fulfill the role of sustaining.

They should add a new competitive system of “commander points” in WvW, where taking objectives and killing opposing players grants positive points, and losing objectives/dying makes you lose points. The higher rank you personally are, the more points you are worth to kill and the more points you lose by dying/failing objectives.

The top 20-30 players on a server after a certain point threshold should be given commander tags.

That way commander tags must be first earned, and then maintained through further good play.

Shared loot and rewards, which directly encourages zerging.

Shared loot and event/kill rewards works in PvE because of scaling.

There is no scaling in WvW, and thus loot and event/kill rewards should not be shared, but split.

Why still downed state in WvW?

I play organized WvW since first BWE. There is NO way to keep all your guildmates alive inside large enough enemy zergs for long time. Stuns, immobilizes, pulls, knockdowns, stability dispelling, constant heavy AoE – ppl will begin to fall. Rally allows us to pick them back up, regroup, heal up, and make a new charge. Remove downstate and zerg warfire will become AoE-fest with only one rule “you have more numbers and more AoE – you win already”.

But this is exactly how WvW is right now. Down state directly encourages zerging because having one more body on the field than the opponent means you (generally) automatically win the engagement.

If anything, Anet needs to first make it so that DEAD (not downed) players are automatically ported back to spawn to prevent ressing, and secondly consider removing downed state completely from WvW.

Ok not impressed SoS, I spend countless gold and time trying to defend sosbl with limited numbers, while we have FIVE commanders on SBIbl trying to take a keep a holding ONE paper tower. The result? no camps on SOSBL briar lost lake lost,Garrison gone wood gone. Lets be clear karma training has a place, but NOT while our map clearly is not under control. CD took briar with 6 people and then there zerg came and took the rest. Show weakness with camps pulls more to your map and the result is a red or blue sosbl. Time after time i see commanders pulling what little defenders we have on sosbl to basically karma train, trading paper towers/keeps for our upgraded BL should not be an option. Its a good server but we need to play smarter imo we only win because our peak is longer than the other server ATM.

Also commanders jobs are not just running around with groups, far too often im told a commander has been on the map for x amount of hours but little has been upgraded. As a commander you should be keeping an eye on upgrades and camps as much as running around. North towers only had 1 upgraded wall and 1 gate upgrade and no other upgrades and crag had paper gates.

At the end of the day if/when sos get to t3 this kind of play will leave us in 3rd place until we are kicked back to t4.

We need the bigger W3 guilds to hold a presents on sosbl when if they can, even calling ppl into the map takes too long sometimes more so when 5 golems are involved like at garrison.

Going to take a break from wvw until june now but goodluck sos and i hope we can sort out these problems soon.

The problem is that the game itself doesn’t reward defending well enough.

Perhaps if they made it so that guilds could get significant rewards for holding their claimed objective for a decent period of time…
