I’d say there is a pretty strong sentiment against the idea of collapsing all of WvW into 3 colors, rather than the current world set up. Which I agree with. I think world pride and association is an important part of the way that WvW works currently.

Here’s a possible version of shorter matchups that wouldn’t necessarily sacrifice the long term fight of a WvW matchup currently and wouldn’t involve merging everyone into one of three teams.

Matches last 8 hours, there are 21 matches in a week with the same 3 worlds, the winner of the week is the world that wins the most matches over the course of that time.

This solves some of the problems we see currently, namely the issues that can arise as matches get out of hand towards the end of the week. However, it would still give worlds with better coverage a leg up on their opponents. It also loses the feeling that you’ve had a long term battle for victory.

I’m curious what you all think of that? Does it retain the feeling of victory in WvW right now and solve problems or does it just introduce more issues without solving any core concerns?

That is actually awesome idea. That way it will be more dynamic and interesting. PPT will be more important, therefore players will be more motivated. Also, if it’s 3 resets a day that will mean that players from any time zone will be able to participate on at least 1 reset. +100

I will keep it simple: these are my 3 things that would motivate me to play fractals again.

1. Remove dredge fractal completely.
2. Add better rewards. Make each fractal have a small chance of dropping some special skin. Make it rare enough and good looking enough to make it actually worth something.
3. Do not add leaderboards. It would motivate a small number of players but it would also demotivate many others because they would realise they could never get high ranked enough so they would just stop.

Matches should be shorter. Everything else about it is just fine. Also, it would be cool to get at least something extra for winning, doesn’t have to be anything big. Just to motivate people to participate.

What type of structure would you find interesting for leagues and ladders?

All of the following is applied to both solo and team ladder:
The ladder should consist of 2 different leagues. Let’s call them silver and bronze for now. Everyone should have access to the bronze league. However, only players that have a certain rank on the ladder (top 1000 for example) should have access to the silver league. It should also be dynamic so as soon as a player drops from top 1000 they will lose access to silver league. But, as soon as they get back in top 1000 they get silver league access right away. That way everyone will have enjoyable games. “pros” will be in games with “pros” and “newbies” will be in games with newbies". But also if some pros want to play with newbies they can, but their games will be harder due to the matchmaking system I’m proposing:
Matchmaking should work in a different way for this. It should be dynamic as it is now. However, it needs more complexity. Teams should be more balanced rating wise. For example: if there is #1 player in the game and everyone else is way lower ranked. That #1 player in the game should get lower rated players in his team instead of having it the way it is now. Total rating of both teams should be as equal as possible. That will provide more challenging and even games.
Also, it’s important to keep decay system so people actually keep playing.

How long should a season last?

3 or 4 months. It would be cool if there would be a big tournament (GW1 swiss automated tournament style). At the end of each season (or even at the end of each month). That tournament should be open for all players. Ideally there would be 3 tournaments at the same day but each player could only register for one. That is to cover all time zones so everyone can participate.

What would motivate you to play in one?

Knowing that I can progress easily. For that I want a dynamic rating system. I want rating to be visible, so I know exactly how much I need to gain to get to my goal (certain position). Fair matchmaking = higher rank on the ladder you are, the lower ranked teammates you will get (in the league you decided to join).

What types of rewards would you like to see?

If the system is actually implemented properly and is FUN to play, rewards won’t matter much. The ladder position is a reward by itself. However, I would end a participation reward at the end of each season for everyone who played certain amount of games. Also for each game won players should get reward tokens. However, those who are higher on the ladder should be motivated to play and they should get more reward tokens.. somehow.. still have to think that one through. Have various options on what reward tokens can be exchanged for.

How would a player earn these rewards?

As mentioned before: by playing and winning. And at the end of season.

How would you encourage players of all skill levels to participate?

Everything that I wrote there should encourage them to play. But remember: there has to be a sense on progress. They need to know that they all have a chance to get to top. Rating system has to be dynamic enough for that.

Trade post works perfectly.

Game lags a lot. Skill delay just makes it too annoying to play.
This has been happening to me since yesterday. It’s same everywhere: PvE, PvP and WvW (as I said: tradepost has no lag at all).

I am in Croatia and I play on Fort Aspenwood server.

Please fix, thanks!

Edit: everything was perfect, no lag at all until yesterday. So it has nothing to do with me connecting from Croatia to NA server.

Big lag here. Fort Aspenwood server. I live in Croatia. Lag is everywhere. PvP, PvE and WvW. However, Trade post works perfectly, no delay at all.

The event design fosters the zerg and the community, on most servers, is no longer strong enough to make lemonade out of ANet’s lemons.

It’s just another sign of how far this once incredible game has fallen.

You know the frustration most of us feel waiting for an MMO expansion for a game we love? The months or even years where there is little or no new content beyond an end game raid here or there? Well, it’s sad to say, but GW2 would have been much, much better off with the typical lack of inter-expansion content than it is today in the wake of the continuing flow of game cheapening content they’ve vomited upon us.

Yes, their efforts have been WORSE than nothing… Blizzard not only grew their Juggernaut with little inter-expansion content and too long waits for expansions, but they have recovered from what many saw as a failed expansion. GW2 was a much better game, at launch, than that other game was when it launched. The sad truth is that post-launch ANet has systematically destroyed most of what made the game great via the Living Story concept and content.

The game didn’t even have a chance to capitalize on it’s amazing core design and content. If ANet had chosen a traditional expansion path, it would have had a year or two to build it’s player base, critical praise and positive word of mouth before ANet’s diminished “shadow self” had a chance to ruin it.

What do you mean “most of us”? How can you prove that?
Why are you randomly trashing Anet and GW2 without providing a single fact that would prove it. That is not constructive at all.

Anyway the way to play this update: 1. farm achievements 2. farm bags if you want 3. you don’t need perfect organisation, you can just have a tag at each place and most people will stick with that tag.

Wurm's Bane title

The Wurm will be in farm mode within months, so there’s no real need to have this title given retroactively. I say this because I foresee many possible problems trying to give us credit from past kills. WvW chests are a good example of the potential problems. So instead of fighting to get past credit, just put that energy into fighting the Wurm again.

Well, Teq sorta is. The difference is that Tequatl only needs a coordinated effort by 20-40 people (i.e. the cannons and the def-teams) while the rest can basically faceroll the entire event. Now the wurm is a completely different story. Unless there’s a massive nerf incoming at some point, this event won’t ever….ever be on farmstatus. Especially not with Living Story content happening in the same map.

Certain server does tequatl without any organisation at all. Just like jormag or any other world event.

Wurm will be the same eventually.

It is very, very unlikely that all overflows were full. Unless you were there 10 minutes before the event finished…
If you are all there in time, there is no way that overflows would be full so fast. That’s how overflow maps work. So yeah… pay attention next time.

Why every 3rd time a ticket. Why not just a ticket each time and require 9 tickets?
Anyway, I think it’s a bad idea. Wurm is a lot easier than teq, which will be obvious in few months when people start farming it all the time.
Also the reward is fine the way it is. Real reward is the feeling of accomplishment for actually beating it rather than some valuable skin that you think you deserve just because you guested on bg/deso or did it with specialised guild.

I don’t really understand why so many people say it’s just blob and karma train. Maybe they just didn’t play it long enough.

It is a lot more than that. It is an actualy proper 3-way match, where all 3 teams try to outsmart eachother in many different ways. I t can be fighting an enemy zerg, sending a small group to cap objectives or cap things with big group. But unlike old WvW where most of the time there isn’t much action, and when there is, it’s usually just 2 servers, 1 sieging other defending, without an treat from the third (most of the time, not always).

Eotm is completely different. You always have to watch out for that third team, and there is always some action, that’s why it is fun. It really doesn’t matter if it’s a blob or a small group as long as it is enjoyable and there is actually something going on all the time.

Adventuring around the Marionette

Dynamic events are supposed to have impact on GW2 world. Marionette works as intended. Next time just go to character selection screen just before the event fails and zone back in few seconds after, if you care that much. You won’t lose any progress and you won’t lose any gold.

I’m all for color vs color rather than world vs world, but if this trend continues they need to make maps that are little less funhouse and tone down the NPCs a bit. Playing in the EotM makes me severely miss basic keep sieges and open fields.

EotM is actually made for clever play and not zerging and unlimited supply spam for siege. NPCs scale based on number of players nearby. They actually die way faster if you have a small group. So what Anet probably expected that EotM won’t be that popular in the future (when season 2 and achievs come) but it will still be fun for any smaller groups (as well as zergs if they choose to be there).
So yeah.. right now it’s a mess maybe, depending on your preferred play style. But in the future it will get better. I personally like the map anyway, whether it’s “zerg wars” or small group captures.

Except that it was said in map chat. It’s not the fault of ours if people were AFK or were not paying attention when we said that we would be making an announcement and to not be AFK so they would know what was going on. This was said in our guild chat, over TeamSpeak, and in map chat several times over the course of the wait. Heck, the target guesting server was leaked over TeamSpeak and map chat before it was even said in our guild chat.

All I have to say now is: screenies or never happened. Because I was there all the time and I had map chat on and I was never afk. You definitely didn’t type it in map chat. Anyway, next time show some respect to people. Just because you are in a guild and voice comm it doesn’t mean you are superior to them in any way.

Sadly we suffer from the same problem Deso does, which is why they goto OF. There are too many randoms who simply don’t want to work as a team. We still have the problem but this way lessens it.

Actually all of them do want to work as a team. Some of them don’t want to get on TS and that’s all. Butthey all know whatto do. And all 50 of them that stayed after you abandoned them 5 minutes before the event started were very disappointed in you guys. Congrats on beating taking many BG native and guesters to go with you and call it Attuned guild kill. You left no chance for those people who waited for 2 hour just to be abandoned.

It’s not all about winning, it’s about how you win. Show some respect to other people. And do not accuse them for things that are not true.
I honestly enjoyed wurm fights on BG first 10 days or so. Everyone was working together, patient, having fun, explaining every detail of the fight to everyone. Sharing thoughts, builds, tactics. However, once the elitist guild was created, everything changed. Now suddenly, you are the best just because you are wearing the guild tag and you have the right to split other BG native and guest players and take who you want with you? (those on TS). It’s just bad and wrong.

Its to bad, 130 people out of 150 getting 7 rares and no asc/skin/mini for hrs of work and varies attempts is a huge deterrent for repeat encounters.

I’ve got my one kill and don’t intend to go back until rewards are re-balanced.

Event actually takes about half an hour at most. Maybe Needs 20 more minutes to set up. There is a chance fo mini wurm and ascended stuff. I don’t see anything wrong there.

This is incorrect and makes many assumptions. This bug has happened several times to groups while they are playing as normal as possible. It moves, the zerg follows, it moves. And if some conditions are right a bug can be triggered.

If it looks like things are going a way that might trigger the bug do you think everyone should just stop and wait for the wurm to move again? No one is going to do that because of the time constraints.

Can conditions be manipulated to make it more likely? Im sure they can. But it’s also very very possible to just have the wurm randomly get itself into that state without intentional influence of the group there. Thats how this whole thing started to begin with. The wurm did something random and it became a rumor, then it did it again and there was a theory, then the exact conditions were discovered to reproduce and it was proven and pretty much immediately after that it was being fixed.

It is really off base to say all of the communities that have beaten the wurm so far knew full well about the bug and went out of their way to take advantage of it.

Wurm was intentioally pulled far away. It was known that bug would trigger that way. That is something that you can control easily.
Also lately runs on BG that I was in had no bug at all. Everyone actually did play the normal way. Even split, decapitate and then just dps the heads normally, no funny business, no tricks, no pushing, pulling or whatever.

Regardless of what happened it’s good that TTS killed the Wurm and they should be happy about that. Getting even Phase 1 down is not an easy task, and they obviously put a lot of time and effort into this fight. It’s really just bad timing that this thing surfaced when it did. With 150 people, and who knows how many more not on the map, or TS, etc., you can’t really expect everyone to know what’s going on with the weird shenanigans with the bugs. So congratulations!

I disagree. Bug was obvious and they should not be happy about killing it that way. It was very easy to prevent those bugs. All that has to be done is play the normal way. You should be really happy if you have some courage to actually be one of 150 and stand up and say: “no, this is wrong and we should not exploit”. I’m quite disappointed that didn’t happen.

What if EotM replaces WvW?

Personally, I think EoTM should be added to normal WvW. Maybe replace some map or something. I think it’s way more interesting and action based. Also there is no ridiculous supply limit so you can just build 50 golems and rush whatever. Even with lower numbers it is possible to defend objectives. Also, the deeper you push, more risk you take. It’s a very long run back, while the enemies are right there. That’s awesome.

I did the wurm event many, many times on BG. I have to say that they did rely on bug scaling at some point for few days. However, that was only for the first phase, not the second, and they didn’t know how it works, they just had a different tactic of doing it.
However, after that and also right now they are doing it the proper way (3 groups, one for each wurm, no funny scaling business on end phase), without any scaling bugs or anything, so once they do kill it, and they will, it will be the real, proper kill.

I am sure that most of those players there were aware of the exploit. It’s such a shame that something that was supposed to be a positive experience and unite the community in order to beat the challenging content turns out to be so negative. Just do it the proper way, if you want to exploit (and you know exactly what you are doing!!!) then do it somewhere else without involving other 150 people in it.

Just a minor thing but I think location colors should change to better reflect their area. Overgrown should be green for, badlands should be red, and frost should be blue. Nothing big but it’s just nice to see the colors correspond with the area.

I absolutely agree with this. I think the way it is now will be confusing to new players.
