Traits are for PvE too and not just PvP…
I could use some of these as well.
Watched the Chaithh steam 5min ago and he is no. 4 NA soloQ and was matched with a rank 1 and rank 10 player in one team. So I guess they have serious problems with the queue.
That’s not a serious problem. It works as intended. Higher you are, worst teammates you are supposed to get. You should have some disadvantage.
I don’t want it to be structured class wise.
100b war and hambow war are completely different things. Same goes for power/condi/mm necro or spirit/power ranger.
SAB would be awesome but I think they got lazy and gave up on it.
It really has nothing to do with luck. Yeah you might get unlucky sometimes and have 4v5 matches, but you should be able to get your rank back up quickly enough if you are good, and have a good build of course
I agree with everything.
I will be optimistic and assume that one of the next things will be new ladder and seasons that will motivate more people to participate. Since we had that CDI thread and all that.
That new map should be good enough for dueling.
Wouldn’t skill/equipment templates solve this problem?
You’re forgetting that Anet doesn’t play Guardians.
I don’t know if they play guardians or not, but those that I’ve seen play very useful builds.
Hammon = really good engi, I remember him from over a year ago. He beat me couple times when I had quite a strong team.
Nightmare = hambow, I remember him from solo arena I think. Good to have as a teammate and very tough as an opponent.
Allie = very good mm necro and a very good player in general, always at the right point at the right time and always makes right in-match decisions.
I don’t know about others, but these 3 are very good players and any team could benefit from them I think. And they play useful things instead of some random mesmer stuff!

You might try making it illegal for everyone to have power cuts, internet fails, screen freezes, real life emergencies. That might help.
Above numbers are probably lower because of decay. They should be even higher ranked once they play another match.
Some of you have asked why we haven’t focused on fixing the issues already in the game. A lot of things have been fixed, but some concerns you guys have like with PW, HS, decap engi, etc. we decided to wait and see how the new traits will affect the meta.
Are you kidding me ?
Example 1:
So tell me how Power Block from mesmers will help them in any way, shape or form to fight against thiefs ? Who, by the way, when interrupted, do not get any cooldown what-so-ever. I think you know that what is mainly pushing any berserker build outside warriors, are PW thiefs ?Please tell me you have thought of that ?
Interrupt hide in shadows. Thief has no chance.
Reached top 80 in SoloQ leaderboards, now having difficulty staying there cuz I keep getting into the same team as r20 elementalist who is afk for 3 mins from start.
How can matchmaking like this exist 1,5 years after release? Unbelievable.
edit: right after that game, 4v5 cuz our necro ragequit cuz of our guardian running a hammer dps build (useless). The guardian was r13.
Higher on the ladder you are, the harder matches you get. Works as intented (without 4v5 I mean).
Another anet hosted tournament after a ‘huge’ balance patch.
/facepalm
Anet is not hosting the tournament. They are just providing the rewards.
Anyway, I think it’s awesome. Anyone can enter, and that’s what matters the most. GIve everyone equal chance.
All devs I played with or against are very good at pvp. I don’t think a random community team would have much chance.
Also, keep in mind that not all traits are just for pvp. Some of them are more focused towards pve and wvw.

Justin can you please explain what exactly is the point of having those unlockable traits?
Why is it so important to have that? Why do you think it is so necessary for the game?
I’m sure the designers have lots of reasons why they took this approach over others. They have to factor in other game modes, impact on the economy, new player experience, and more.
Personally, I like setting goals and working toward them. The rush of excitement when I finally reach a goal is one of the things that drives me, not just in game but in real-life as well.
So this sort of progression really gels with me. This one system (traits) by itself probably wouldn’t be enough to satiate players like myself, but when taken as part of the broader whole, its just what I’d like to see.
I understand not everyone feels this way, and I truly hope that it isn’t so much an inconvenience to those players. That said, I’m really glad they put something in for people like me.
Personally, I don’t care much about this. I’ll have all those traits unlocked within the first day.
I know that there are plans to release more traits in the future and all that. But I just find it so pointless to have them locked at first. There is really no benefit in that, at least not the way it is now. Anyway, that’s just how I see it.

- To ease player into sPvP
- Progression
How exactly?
Do you know approx around what hour it will be? So I know if I should ask my asian friends or it will be too late at night for them.

Awesome trait. Mesmers will finally feel more like mesmers (GW2 style). I loved playing PB or PD mes. It is a fun and cool trait but definitely not overpowered. Good job on this one Anet.
This is pretty much like asking to remove interrupts from GW1.
Problems with the unlock system:
1. It totally stands in contrast to the initial characteristics of GW2 pvp. Spvp was always ment to be a place where you could jump in right from the beginning, without having disadvantages at the choice of skills / traits.
2. Being able to unlock new skills / traits is NO reward, being not able to use those traits is just a penalty, however, this doesn’t turn the unlocking system into a reward.
3. What else will we have to unlock in PvP? It started with skills, now we have to unlock traits. What’s next? I heard, they also reward runes and sigils as well as they add new amuletts. Will we have to unlock those, too?
4. Every time, sombody has issues with fighting vs. a certain build, you usally get the answer “try to play that build by urself”. This is a good tip and as long you have 1 free char space, it is easy to realize. With unlocks, it will become “spend 1-2 gold into a char you probably wont use very much, if you want to try it”.
5. For PvE players, there are 2 ways to unlock the new traits: via “Exploring the world” and the general way, the merchant. PvP players will be restricted to the merchant. At least, give us a unique PvP way for unlocking them. What about using the e.g. “(Chapmion) Illusionist” titels or Ranks for that (in additoin to merchants)
And last, this is more related to the “fusion of PvE and PvP”.
I know, you already introduced coins in PvP, however you should consider this:
As soon PvP gives more coins than PvE, PvE players might abuse PvP for farming issues. However, as long PvP gives significantly leses coins than PvE, PvP players will complain about having disadvantages.
This gets worse, when you need coins to unlock stuff for PvP.
Getting less coins out of PvP isn’t that bad, if PvE is the only thing, you can use them for. Getting less coins out of PvP, while actually needing them for PvP is unfair.
Wow…. those are some excellent points. I couldn’t put it better myself.
I seriously don’t see a single benefit in having those unlocks.
Unlockable skins = good
Unlockable skills and traits = very bad and completely unnecessary.
It’s only 1 new trait at each trait line. And it’s only grandmaster. I can’t see why people are making such a big deal out of this. I’m guessing they will be easy to unlock anyway.
Though problem that I see here is consistency. New players will think those new traits are way stronger because they are initially locked. That inconsistency might hurt them and they might end up playing weaker builds just because they will believe those traits are stronger.
My random guess would be it’s something like capture the flag. I don’t think deathmatch could work ever. But we will find out tommorow!
As a reward for solo and team wins I’d just give 1 rare piece of equipment with chance for an exotic. That would be perfect.
But, it might mess up with the economy so I don’t know that. They would have to consult John Smith first.
Yeah, Allie, but at the moment we don’t have any rewards to play for
Before we had rank points, gold and a chest that really didn’t give much.
Now we have way more rank points, gold and no chest. Oh and those rank-up chests.
It really isn’t a big deal to wait until 15th. Rewards right now are not much different than they were before.
Reward are still there… You get increased rank points and you get silver.
Only thing they removed was completely useless chest. What’s the problem?
New and improved rewards are coming soon anyway.
I played 4282 matches out of which 4046 were tournaments (no skyham farm) and I am rank 58. How come you needed so many?
Problem with decap engis is not only that they have no real counter for 1v1 but they just.. decap the point too easily.
That’s something hambow, spirit ranger, necro can’t do. It really gives a huge advantage to the team because opponents have to keep 2v1ing the engi or they lose the point.
AR trait is what keeps them alive.
When is the next Profession CDI?
Since we just got it done with Ranger and then we got this awesome Patch. I can’t wait for the next one.
They said long ago this was just a maintenance patch. This is not a big patch.
Nature-s renewal is fine the way it is now. If it wasn’t bugged it would be too weak. But they are going to nerf it a bit anyway.
Also… an ele can sneeze on spirits and they will all die instantly.
Thief bug did give quite some advantage.
I hope this answered your question!
I find this very hard to believe. Any screenshots?
For me (a random gw player) PvP forums are very useful and I am glad they exist. It’s an easy way of getting my ideas and opinions across and also something to do between arena queues. And devs actually do read all/most of it.
I also increased my forum skill level, I almost never get infracted anymore!
I have 4 birthday boosters saved up. But I can’t really use them yet. I PvE mostly on my ranger and the problem is I use that ranger for PvP too. So when I go to PvP I feel like those hours on birthday booster would be wasted. So I avoid using it even though I want it for PvE/WvW.

They never said this would be a PvP patch….
I think these numbers are actually quite good.
But… does this work for custom arena as well? Because if it does.. it could be set up to be farmed massively. I think in that case something should be done.
So many awkward silences in that dialogue. But I don’t care, I got my 2 obsidian shards!
Dishonour system works just fine. 4v5 games are very rare. I get maybe 1 or 2 of those a week.
Well played Allie, you helped us as well. And no worries, get everything done, ranks 30, 40, etc. can wait a bit!
(edited by Rezz.8019)
I’d like visible ranks but ranks have to be grinded and doesn’t mean you’re good, just spent a lot of time. I know plenty of rank 30-40 players that are better than most 60’s
I want some visible way to tell how “good” someone is. Last game I played PvP in you could click on their name and view their record.
Visible ladder rating/rank.
Having visible rating would motivate players to participate in PvP more. I hope they will have this when they add leagues and seasons and ladders and all that stuff.
I do not VOIP in game for this reason:
It will usually hurt the team more than benefit. Usually the most chatty players are the worst ones. This way they will have more power as they will speak and naturally most people will listen to them and therefore make bad calls. It’s better like this when we have 5 brains instead of just one that would happen in most cases.
Another brilliant work by mighty meak. This epilogue to “ladderboard” poem might be short but it contains so many things.
We can see that mighty meak is looking forward to the feature patch and all the good things it will bring to PvP. Also, he finally got through the depression stage that occurred after his gf left him.
I hope we will see some more brilliant work from you mighty meak. And remember: don’t let the fame get to you, just be yourself and keep producing the epic content.
Living story epilogue and hopefully super adventure box (though no one mentioned anything about it).
Make it possible to somehow place an “X” on the map which would mean “go there”.
Drawing kind of works but it is more difficult to notice. However, problem with X would be removing it, people might forget. But yeah, something like that would be cool.
