Horrendous looking sets, Anet wont be getting me to part with any cash for those.
No, you’d throw it. But aye, I agree.
It isnt profitable for them to allow you to gear up all your alts quickly with the best gear. The more time you spend in the game the more sales they can dangle in front of you in the gem store. It’s exactly why DR are legendaries exist. They want/need to slow players down in terms of progress and time-gated unlocks, be it for guild missions or ascended gear, is the most cost-effective way to do that.
/thread.
Gotta call horse kitten on this because in gw1 you would hit the gear cap in around 5 minutes…. Hell most players hit the gear cap before they even hit the max level cap…. They kept right on playing to get special skins for the weapons and armor they wanted and that was seriously all the game was…. The only reason they have such massive time gates on the ascended gear is because it wasn’t supposed to be in the game from the start….. They attempted to say it was planned from the start to be in game but that’s one of the most bold faced lies I’ve seen from any developers in quiet awhile…
The only thing the current time gates do is hurt sells not give more potential profit.
Gw2 is a different game with different companies as stakeholders, Nexon being a big influence here. Gw1 wasn’t run the same way.
Whats really more likely? The devs are idiot liars, or that Anet and their stakeholder influences have a smarter approach to monetising the game? Idiot liars don’t really tend to make such acclaimed and successful games, shrewd businessmen however. . .
Edit: oh and here is an article I think you will find interesting if you want to know more. Whilst I don’t agree with some of the author’s assertions about pay-2-win etc., he does make some interesting points.

I can sort of understand why people would use crafting to help level their alts, but I’m not sure why people think it’s necessary to reach level 80 as fast as possible. The way this game is structured, there’s not a lot of content that requires you to be level 80 to participate, so I personally don’t see the point in racing to 80.
Well you do agree then, that there are content “requiring” level 80 to participate (Quotations only because, although said content can be done below 80, it would be much more difficult). Those content are what a decent number of players strive to work towards, therefore, would you say it’s wrong to want to get to that point as quick as possible?
Yes, because the content is more of the same.
TL;DR : OP played the same game 2000 hours in 10 months. That is an average of 6.57 hours a day. So OP is tired of the game.
Thank you for reading.
Aye 1000x times this. He said " I became drawn to the idea of a fresh MMO that didn’t have that gray stamp on it that said “this is your job now”.", and then puts full time hours into it.
I still don’t have world completion on a single character, nor have I touched sPvP yet or completed all dungeons paths. Not because I can’t, but because I’m in no hurry to ruin the game for myself by plowing through the content. I love the game, and I moderate my consumption of the content accordingly.
I really want more SAB and soon! I know its coming, but I really hope we don’t have to wait until next year.
… there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun and zones are all dead.
This is where your entire post breaks down. The assumptions that every zone is dead and that no one could conceivably enjoy single player / small-scale multi player are wrong.
Uhh, no, it isn’t. Because no one does unless its their first character. Also, you can still enjoy dead zones at level 80.
I enjoy it. I would much rather lvl up from open world than do the same dungeon for 15 hours then spend many hours tediously crafting. Stop trying to speak for other people. I don’t care if your method is faster, again you’re assuming that we are all in some desperate race to level up.
How you enjoy playing =/= how everyone enjoys playing.
Yeap, I’d love to see this feature return.
How does ‘chasing people away’ engender ArenaNet more profits? Seems that would elicit the opposite.
Chasing who away, farmers? Well easy, farmers aren’t the profitable players for Anet. They are self-sufficient so don’t spend a lot on gems. Also a lot of the farmers are players that have completed the majority of the content they want to and are making the aquisition of a legendary their end game. After they get it, they aren’t likely to stick around much longer so it makes perfect financial sense to draw out that process as long as possible with rng, dr and farming spot nerfs.
The bread-and-butter for Anet is cash-rich casual gamers, not hardcore mob grinders. They will continue to punish the latter group until they either leave, suck it up and take on the extra long grind or finally crack and invest in gems for gold. Whatever the outcome it’s all good for Anet
I really don’t mind the farming nerfs. Keeps the economy balanced and discourages a playstyle that would severly shorten the lifespan of the game for many players. If we were all super rich with legendaries after playing for a couple months and farming then the population would drop like crazy. Anet know this, so don’t expect them to give you easy money/mats any time soon.
You’re right, man. I was planning to stop playing after maybe getting a legendary in about 2-3 months time. Now it will take more time than that. So I’m just gonna stop playing now.
Good thing they did it though. Knocked me to my senses about planning to waste all that time for a stupid skin when I have done everything else to do in-game.
Totally do it, stop playing! Anet doesn’t mind, that’s why they don’t have subs. I highly recommend anyone bored of the game, and not interested in grinding for a silly skin to stop playing. Go play another game, come back to Gw2 when it has some more content, or a precursor hunt etc. If you feel you’ve done everything else and don’t want to take on a massive grind it’s the best thing to do.
The ideas as the op proposes it would be fine with me. I would not want it to take priority at all though, the UI has plenty of other stuff that needs fixing first.
Oh and to all the posters syaing, “people will only focus on dps stats” etc etc. Please just speak for yourselves. Not all players are dps focused number junkies. Personally I’d be very interested to see all the stats the op proposes.

It should come with the title “Basement Dweller”
Rhaps?!
Not been phished yet either here. Not that I’ve noticed anyway, I think my spam filters must work.
i think they left out this one.
should be the same as other dungeons.scream loudly about this until they fix it.
LOUD NOISES!!!!!
..but seriously, this seems like a massive oversight.
and those who question me about
“you need do more dungeons”
“you suck”
“get more hp/better builds”i did all that…i even stacked HP, still bad =/
pretty much in dungeons ive been rolling a range class and dodging stuff but i wanted to play a freaking melee….never had this problem with any other MMO’s
Dont play this like an mmo. Play it like an ARPG. If you’re on Seafarer’s Rest (or can guest there) you’d be more than welcome to come on a guild run with us. We do runs for dungeon first timers a lot. We explain tactics, never skip mobs and give you advice on how to play, if you want it. Playing a melee warr (or any melee class for that matter) in dungeons in this game is way way different to other mmos. It takes a while to get it, but once you do you will never go back. It’s so much fun and far more engaging, it does have a much steeper learning curve to boot tho.
Dont give up!
To answer the OP’s concerns. It’s not racism, because the races aren’t real.
Racism in real life is framed by society, history and the context of actual human interaction and predjudice.
For example. Imagine there is a planet populated by two races. The red people and the green people.
One red guy says to another, “I hate those green kittens”. Is that racism? Not really, as they are merely theoretical constructs and don’t exist! Nobody gets offended as both parties are purely fictional and bear no relation to real life.
Yes there is fantasy racism in the game, but that just makes it a more believeable world as opposed to some unrealistic social utopia.
If fictional racism between fictional races in a fictional world gets your panties in a twist you sorely need a reality check.
That guy is so annoying, cannot stand to watch him for longer then 30 sec.Why you let someone like Him to decide whether to buy or not to buy a game goes beyond me….Really.
He dislike’s Guild wars2,and now it suddenly is a fail and you hop along with whatever he says… ?
I think it’s time to start thinking for yourself….
He (Angry Joe) didn’t say that GW2 in its entirety is a fail. He just doesn’t like lack of Guild options and unless you run your own Guild outside of a few friends you have in real life then you’d agree. If you watched more than 30 seconds of his videos you’d see how right he usually is with his reviews.
Also, what makes you think that the ONLY reason someone doesn’t like the Guild system is because a Youtuber said so? That’s absurd. With that kind of logic I can go and find a Youtuber who LOVES GW2 and tell you that you love GW2 solely because a Youtuber does.
It counts both ways, you got that right.Hence i was saying, time to start thinking for yourself. And no,by all means..thanks alot but i will not watch him any longer then 30 sec, simply because i cannot stand the guy or most people i see on youtube making “reviews” , infact make vids because they like to show themselves, make money, and love the sound of their own voice so much it makes them wet.People like games because other people tell them so,then they start to dislike games, because the same people suddenly don’t like the game anymore. Why watch reviews of a game youre allready playing, then letting someone convince you otherwise ? I play what i play, without anybody telling me what to like or what not to like.
Well done on having independant thought. It might amaze you to discover that the rest of us have this ability too.
Do you have anything to add about the state of the guild system or are you just here to rant incoherently about Angry Joe?
I logged on to GW1 for the first time in ages the other day to check my birthday presents, and I was stunned by just how much better the entire guild interface was in GW1.
Last online, recruitment date, ranks split into sections, separate Guest and Invitee sections and a guild announcement that’s editable without losing the current text and that appears on log-on. Hell, in the History section, I could even see when a current member was invited and when they actually joined. It recognises that distinction!
Seriously, GW2’s engine is just an updated version of the GW1 engine. How the hell did all this stuff get stripped out in the transition from 1 to 2?!
It’s an embarrassment.
I wholeheartedly agree. As a GM in both games im stunned at how much of a backward step they took with the current guild system. I really expected it to be on par with GW1 this long after release but if anything it just seems to break and bug out more these days.
Sort it out Anet come on, it’s getting ridiculous!
Looks like a Canthan coin, has what appears to be a gold dragon on it. It could be related to the upcoming Dragon Festival that got revealed in the latest data mining.
hey folks,
our patch notes jumped the gun a bit. Canach instance is NOT the ending of the living story. That will come next week. Stay tuned!
Okay thanks for confirming that Robert! I’ll stop looking for a instance that isn’t there yet :P
Give your web guys a kick up the kitten tho, shouldn’t really take this long to update the patch notes on the main site.
The instance is there, but it’s not the ending of the Southsun Cove’s living story.
/facepalm Not talking about the canach cave instances at all. For the 2nd time this thread ill point to what im referring to.
From the patch notes..
“Instances
Added new Canach single-player story boss encounter.
Added explorable multiplayer variant (unlocked if you defeat Canach).
Added new single-player instance for the culmination of the story."
So check off the first 2, where is the 3rd?… The 3rd isn’t in yet as it’s the ending to the story that comes in later.

Oh thanks for the heads up OP! I could do with grinding out some more HoM points too and double rewards on my favourite old pvp haunts is the best way to do it
Karka queen seems to be a open world event that will spawn if the various settlements are kept free of trouble for some time. Could be it ties in with the contracts rescue.
It’s not in yet, quote from dev:
“However it is NOT out until next week. We’re actively working on modifying our patch notes.”
I’m wondering if the 3rd single player instance they mention is also not in yet.
@ Rhaps Maybe will appear with Karka Queen?
Aye maybe, im just wondering if anyone else has found it or if this is just another part of the patch notes that isn’t actually live yet.
There seems to be some confusion.
The steam wall leads to a dungeon interface providing both story and explore modes, while you can talk to a nearby NPC to go directly to a single player gimmick fight with Canach.
No. The steam wall gave access to story/exp mode before the patch. After the patch they split story to solo on the npc and the steam wall only activates exp when you walk into it -after- doing the solo canach via that npc. They already said they released the dungeon too early and hence this bug with not getting rewards (I did the story mode before the patch so no rewards for me but thats a different issue). The part im specifically referring to from the notes is this….
Instances
Added new Canach single-player story boss encounter.
Added explorable multiplayer variant (unlocked if you defeat Canach).
Added new single-player instance for the culmination of the story.
So check off the first 2, where is the 3rd?
What ending? I found Canach sp, and exp. But the patch notes mention a sp story ending instance and I cant find it anywhere.
Is this content that isnt in yet like the karka queen?
Anet knows how to play on your average male mmo player’s primal fears…
Never been kicked for being a ranger, never kicked someone for being a ranger. Even if they bring spirits and a longbow I can make up for it.
Tipping is common since GW1.
I remember the old days when people “runned” to Droknar for tips, It’s perfectly normal.
The runners “ran” people to Droks. XD I did that too, along with Crystal Desert and back to Ascalon runs. Thing is though myself and nearly all of the runners that weren’t doing it for practice runs did it for a deposit then full payment at the end. Not tips.
Going rate was 1.5 plat for a Lornar’s Pass run as it took a while and was pretty kitten hard.
I’ve not charged anyone for the southsun portals though.
bo-staff
shruikens
samurai sword…. oh wait, Cantha aint coming back, scrap that then XD
I miss pet evolutions.
how do you survive the fall? is it possible to do a normal jump into the water? I considered using a teleport gun to get far enough, but that can’t be the answer. only tried to give portal rides once, and went splat instead. there was land under that water X(
Probably using the trait that reduces fall damage.
Nope! If you are at the boat/bridge thing just walk off it to the west. There are a couple of ledges you can hop down onto. Then the final jump is onto the back of the shipwreck. You will only take a tiny bit of fall dmg.
I ported dozens of people up yesterday as my guild was grinding the achievs and I parked my mesmer there as a service for them. Obviously tons of random players used the portals too and nearly every one of them said thanks. I was pretty impressed, quite a polite lot on sfr.
Didn’t get a single tip tho! Ah well, c’est la vie.
Edit: Oh I would like to add that I wasn’t asking for tips but if someone did want to charge for the service I wouldn’t think less of them for it. In Gw1 I made a fair bit of coin as a runner. Lornar’s Pass, all the outposts in the crystal desert and even the occasional run back into Ascalon for factions/nightfall toons, you put in the effort to get people to places without any effort on their part so it’s fair to charge if you want.
(edited by Rhaps.8540)
Mind talking us through what we’re looking at here? How do you use this build in typical combat, why do you choose the skills/weapons you do?
It’s quite hard to really form a decent picture of what this build does just looking at the build page. I see you’re running a lot of signets, but no traits to enhance them. I also notice your elite is the short ranged Entangle yet you are using sb and lb traited for extra range. Also what pets are you using and why?
And Aeri, nobody gets any critique in the sticky. Also I don’t think space is a premium on a forum so another thread is hardly doing any harm. Maybe you should be a little less of a sarcastic kitten to someone just looking for some honest feedback.
I’d like to see Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood a lot more.
Yes, so much! I especially loved the mechanics of Fort Aspenwood. Some more unique standalone PvP scenarios that are new-player friendly could only be good for the game.
I wont be going back to rift. It may have raids but the whole raiding thing is a massive chore. Competing for drops, organising huge groups, getting everyone on vent, dealing with all the bickering & elitism. And all for what? A gear treadmill that never ends.
The rest of the stuff Rift offers in terms of open world is good, but I prefer the way Gw2 does it.
This review is far too long, littered with numerous grammatical blunders and so utterly subjective in most of its criticisms it’s no wonder it needed to be self-published.
I’ll give it a C-
That’s C as in KITTEN.
Hmm, it is very odd. We’ve also had problems with items vanishing then reappearing in the build queue and guild chat failing (whilst say & party work fine).
Thanks for the reply Xeph. I’m assuming seeing as im not getting many replies that most guilds aren’t having these problems. I’ll see if anyone else has anything to add then ill open a ticket with support.
I’m GM of a medium sized (250) guild on Seafarer’s Rest and for the last 3 weeks have been plagued with buggy guild missions.
The Bounties. First off was a few weeks ago with us twice getting Sotzz and not a single barrel spawning on the map. Then last week we had Devious Teesa as our final bounty but nobody could avtivate her.
The Treks. Mostly been fine apart from one Tier 2 waypoint (orange circle) failing to show last week. We checked off various guides and found where it should have been, it just wasn’t. Another failed mission.
The Rushes. Apart from the fact you often get stuck in a queue with other guilds for these our rush tonight could not even be activated. Every rank tried, we relogged, tried outside of a party etc. nothing worked. We had to stop missions at that point as apparently you cant have multiple mission types active at the same time. Also the cooldown for a Rush is 5hrs if it isnt activated so it effectively blocked any missions for that entire time.
Is anyone else getting similar problems? I’ve reported all of these in-game personally but I wonder if it’s just my guild that’s so unlucky.
This is why I never put any more than I can afford to lose in my guild’s bank. And tell all the members to do the same. We got robbed once, the guy must’ve gotten away with all of 1 gold’s worth of utter trash.
Now the guy is stuck in a tiny guild, has very few in-game friends and has missed out on months of guild commendations. The commendations alone would have been worth far far more than what he stole, not to mention all the guild dungeon/fractal runs he missed out on which would have netted him a tidy sum.
If you’re gonna be an mmo ‘criminal kitten’ at least steal something worth stealing. In the immortal words of Mr. T, I pity the fool.
Can’t say I’ve noticed it myself but maybe Anet should add an option to remove camera smoothing or something, for those who really dislike it.
At least you Nords get the representation. I’m Scottish and we have nothing in this game that emulates our ancient culture.
There are places where it rains quite often.
Good! I like it nice and dreich.
At least you Nords get the representation. I’m Scottish and we have nothing in this game that emulates our ancient culture.
They look alright, if yah like creey eyes I’m just sad the colour scheme is almost identical to the Guild weapons you buy with commendations. Would be nice to have more variety.
I wish I didn’t have to do a dungeon to finish it, before that it was fun:)
Agreed. I will never run the dungeon so the story is over for me. It’s a terrible feeling not being able to finish the story. I would have liked to see how it all played out.
Just to warn you—don’t bother progressing too far in your Personal Story, as they pull the same thing there as well—the big fight against the Elder Dragon is another lousy 5-man WoW Raid. :-/ Very bad ball-drop by ArenaNet, given that and the F&F ender are the only places in the entire game where forced grouping is mandatory. Literally everything else is either soloable, a drop-in/drop-out public event, both, or the completely optional ’Destiny’s Edge getting the band back together’ side-story dungeons.
Wait so the dungeon story with Destiny’s Edge is an optional side-story, but for some reason the personal story and living story aren’t? You can still get to 80 and access all non-instanced areas without doing personal story or living story content. They are also optional.
Anet has set a clear trend with their major progressive story content, it all contains dungeons. They aren’t like WoW raids, they’re for the most part pretty casual actually. I wouldn’t say Anet is dropping the ball, I’d say you are playing the wrong type of game if you find instanced group content so off-putting.
Factal mode for MWF.
Do want.
Me too. It already has the feel of a fractal with the length and mechanics, do it Anet!
I do feel bad for people unable to do the dungeon, but I don’t really understand people that are unwilling to try. I mean dungeons are such a big part of mmos that it’s odd to expect everything to be soloable, even a living story arc. After all, if I wanted solo content I’d go play a brilliant single player rpg like Skyrim instead, not an mmo.
That way I’d never feel like im forced to play a way I don’t enjoy or miss out on content I won’t do for whatever reasons.
