I didn’t even know they worked in WvW, but they shouldn’t. They’re not available through normal play, only the gem store, so they shouldn’t be usable in any kind of pvp (not just “competitive” pvp) as they give an advantage to the richer player.

And to those saying “it’s only 5% you probably would’ve won/lost anyway,” that’s a bad argument that could be used to justify nearly any level of P2W. In a close fight 5% can make a different, so they shouldn’t be allowed.

You’re complaining about fairness in WvW, where numbers rule all? If you want the fairest of fair fights, go to pvp where these arent allowed. Otherwise there is literally no argument you can make that isn’t trumped by “bring a friend.”

Ascended gear and guard stacks can be earned outside of the gem store, bad comparison.

And like I already said, it makes the difference in a close fight. It doesn’t have to hypothetically swing a 5v1 in favor of the one guy to be unfair. If it gives you an advantage in a 1v1 in exchange for gems, it’s P2W, which is bad.

By your reasoning an item that gave you +100% damage in exchange for gems would also be acceptable, because if you were outnumbered twenty to one you would still lose.

Saying they’ll “rarely” appear and “rarely” make a difference is not an argument in their favor – in fact it’s conceding the point that sometimes they do appear and do make a difference. To the extent they do, they shouldn’t.

Ascended gear can absolutely be acquired by buying gems. And guard stacks can be had by simply zerging in EOTM. They both also give a far bigger benefit than a limited time 5% booster to a single stat. Full bloodlust stacks give more of a boost.

Also please keep your strawmam argument to yourself about some hypothetical 100% stat boost. I say bring on anyone who wants to waste their money for 5%, because I’m confident I don’t need to buy my victories.

Anyway like I said, if you’re so concerned about 5%, bring a friend. Or go to pvp. WvW is not made for people who require an even playing field, it is by it’s very nature unfair.

Still, I have to give kudos to however at ArenaNet came up with the idea of the reward tracks. No, really. You found a way to entice someone like me, who would otherwise not bother with PvP at all to grind through it.

Counterpoint: I started in pvp because I wanted a piece of dungeon armor and didn’t wanna deal with the kind of people that run COE.

Pvp (mainly hotjoin) has taken up almost all of my GW2 gametime since, just for the fun of it.

Edit: The reward tracks get people to try, a % fall in love, I’d call that a big success

Basically the same for me, but I started pvp for the champion title. Now I’m getting close to reaper. The reward tracks are super nice in the meantime though, got a good bit of ascended gear, gold and skins.

Changing the percentage needed wouldn’t help at all, well that’s not true it might, but it won’t solve the problems thus nerf has caused. The spectral necro can instantly get enough lifeforce to re enter deathshroud very quickly, now no matter what we are locked out of ds for 10 seconds. This basically leaves us defenseless for 10 seconds everytime we come out of ds.

We’ve always been defenseless outside of death shroud. So now having what is essentially a lazy playstyle (I would know, Ive done it plenty of times) is no longer rewarded. Actively manage your DS.

I haven’t even noticed this change yet.

If you lose that many games, and you’re still playing to the best of your ability, just chalk it up to a bunch of noobs playing and switch gears to doing something else. If I lose 3 games in a row or have a bad percentage for the day, I usually just do something else entirely.

I’d say probably sometime early next year. Halloween stuff will probably start around the 15th, that will run until LS starts in November. That’ll keep people busying until December and Wintersday will start up.

So realistically I’d say early next year, hopefully I’m wrong and it’s released sooner. Maybe it’ll be similar to last years Wintersday when they merged it together.

I’m hoping for the same release as the second half of living story in early November.

Can’t ignore mid on legacy, certainly not with pugs anyway. Almost impossible to rotate without mid.

I’ve gone back and forth on that issue and other issues brought up by Ovid earlier in the thread. Staff shines more on certain maps, like temple of the silent storm where it is clutch for interrupting channels, where as axe/focus may be better on khylo where the areas to fight are tighter and that range isn’t as important. Also depends on what specs you’re fighting, which is hard to determine beforehand.

Same thing with Lich – which by the way is still very much alive. I’m fairly certain I actually hit harder now than before 9/9 with lich form. But in certain maps and playstyles golem may suit you better.

Not really scanning builds as much as being educated as to what is commonly run by which classes and how your teammate/enemy fits into those specs based off weapons and/or obvious traits.

Really isn’t a whole lot of variation in those specs, because people will want to be the most effective, and that’s why most use the “meta” builds.

This is one place where I really disagree with you, Vee Wee. It’s this attitude that ruins the map. The map itself is fine when it isn’t 4v5, but it’s constantly 4v5 because of this attitude.

I would say PvE you can make it work but it’s not ideal, pvp is fine if you’re not a baddie, WvW is in a really good spot for necros.

Every class has their Chicken Littles. If you like the class then you should play it.

I like this idea, but I would worry about skills like null field and well of corruption becoming super strong, which is probably why this doesn’t currently happen.

Dagger builds got a bit of a buff, and we can now interact in death shroud. Those are the big changes with necromancer.

The real changes are what happened around the necromancer – warriors and thieves took some nerfs and no longer are as big of a counter to us. Boon heavy classes seem to be the dominant classes in the meta, and we have ways to hurt them. Overall I think the balance team did a great job with this patch, as much as I raged about our lack of buffs at the time. In context, it was a good patch.

That’s because everyone who’s whining is either a warrior or a thief.

In hindsight though, makes sense. + two classes make up a significant portion of the profession balance.

Rarely do I ever see thieves complain outside of their own profession. Wars, on the otherhand, tend to complain that they need more DPS or CC more than they complain about other professions. It is usually the other professions that complain.

EDIT: Actually the reason why you don’t see warr/thief QQ alot is because war being OP is a given to the community and thieves are leaving their profession and hopping on war or guard.

People would be surprised how much kitten we have to do just to stay alive on the battlefield. Feel free to hop on War and give walking around with a “cannot disengage” target on your back a try.

I’m not sure an I’m ready button would help, since players currently can be pushed into a match even if they are AFK. What happens when someone is AFK, and not hitting the button? Then everyone is waiting and probably pushed back into the queue. Those people need to be weeded out before even joining the match.

This would definitely fix solo queue! I really hope ANet see this thread and take action. Gonna keep bumping until they see ^^

Oh, and the queue pop should have a sound so that people getting their tea actually can react in time.

Appreciate the kind words! I agree though, a sound would be good, and even if the game icon could blink if you have the game minimized, which was a suggestion from another thread by another poster. Who knows how many AFKs happen because someone was in a long queue, and didnt check for 2 minutes or so? A better queue would go a long way.

That’s the whole point of the I’m ready button. Everyone has to “accept” or “ready up” for the game to start. If not everyone does, then the players get thrown back into the queue. The player(s) that didn’t “accept” or “ready up” are not put back into the queue though.

Sure it’s not the prefect solution, but it works (CSGO and Dota2 are prefect example). Sure you’re not going to stop every AFKer, but there is no system that can.

I see, I misunderstood. I thought you were referring more towards something like the “I’m ready” button that you can press before a match that doesn’t do anything.

It’s essentially the same suggestion, though. It seems simple enough, and it works just fine for other games and WvW.

I still like Devon Carver’s idea of having 24 8 hour matches so things like night capping don’t play as big of a role. It at least helps balance out imbalances between time zones.

P. S. that’s not spam, it’s one skill. Complete opposite of spam.

I’ve played since launch, regularly with no breaks, and have less than 10k achievement points. A full set of armor even at 18k achievement points is very hard to get.

I think necros are the only class that can’t spec to counter rangers even if we wanted to. Against rangers it’s really all about positioning and awareness. If the enemy team has rangers I generally change my routes.

For example, in Temple of the Silent Storm, Rangers like to hop on the middle ledge above mid. Usually I will head to mid and get in the team fight, but against some rangers I run up top and flush them out. Otherwise, you’re going to get targeted by them and won’t be able to fight back. On Legacy of the Foefire, it’s ranger heaven – especially at mid. But on the side points you can LOS them and negate the range.

The big thing to remember is that, generally, they are a huge threat if you let them free cast, but the melt if you get to them. A lot dont carry many stunbreakers or condition removal, either.

Why are WVW "server maps" identical?

It’s that way for exactly what you said – balance. Everyone gets the same defenses on their borderland.

Although it should probably have more of an approach like eternal battlegrounds, where the higher ranked server is supposed to have a harder time defending. Whether or not it works out that way is up for debate, though.

I’ve seen these issues laid out, but I personally haven’t seen them related to the WvW queue system/options that are already in game.

Focus is pretty strong as is, the only changes I’d make would be to make the boon on focus 4 more relevant (regen is very mediocre imo, especially on a profession with easy access to 100% uptime on single sources), and making focus 5 a 1s cast time.

For example, focus 4 giving might instead of regen would be awesome.

Back at launch, focus 4 gave swiftness.

Agreed on focus 5, it is a long cast.

I’ve been experiencing a lot more 4v5s in soloQ lately, a problem that is not an uncommon experience. While I find them annoying, I even caused one myself as real life came up at the same time as my match queue.

This is a big issue. It ruins games as they are almost never competitive, they are a waste of time, and it compromises the integrity of these “ranked” matches. It trivializes the whole thing down to somewhat-more-serious-because-of-the-rewards hotjoin. Plenty if people just queue alone in team queue to avoid some soloQ issues.

An idea came to me though. The queue for SoloQ should work like the queue for World vs. World. In case no one is familiar, the WvW queue pops and gives you 3 options – accept your queue pop, re-enter the queue, or leave the queue altogether, and it gives you about a minute to decide, and if no decision is made, they are removed from the queue. If the SoloQ queue worked this way it could address some of the biggest issues with SoloQ:

- Hate Skyhammer? Re-enter the queue
- AFK? You’ll be passed over
- Something come up (in game or IRL)? Leave the queue

This would improve population of soloQ by fixing issues and drawing people from teamQ to soloQ where they actually should be, if it were a better time. If this worked this way, it could speed up queue times as AFK players or people choosing not to enter a match would be passed over for players in waiting. The match timer could start with full 5 man teams on each side, each player willingly there. The queue pop itself would only need 15-30 seconds for someone to make a decision, then, the time before a match could be reduced. Players who accept but don’t have a full team see “waiting for players,” where the timer would be, which doesn’t start until they have a full team, while the queue runs through the best prospects for the match.

Another thing this could solve is that currently, people can get pushed into the game as soon as it starts with hardly any time to communicate, adjust their builds, switch characters, or anything. If this happened, people could have a minute after the teams are full to do these things.

I think this change, along with starting with 5 man teams because of it, would go a long way to make soloQ a more legitimate experience.

TL;DR: Give soloQ options to re-enter queue or leave queue like WvW to fix soloQ issues.
