Option to salvage crafted material

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I can sort of understand where this request is coming from, but I find it highly unnecessary. For one thing, the complete assembled item can be salvaged for these base components. If you assembled one of the component items, then suddenly needed it back, you’ve got to go all the way through. A little forethought goes a long way in these things. For another, every crafting component sells for a high price on the trading post, and has for as long as I can remember. Now, I didn’t start crafting items until long after I got my first level 80 character, but that was back in October 2012, so I think I can reliably say that crafting components always sell for a good price, far more than the parts like wool scraps or even bolts. So if you do desperately need the base material, you could easily sell it and buy more materials from the sale price than you ever could from just salvaging it. Plus, I don’t think they are exactly flooding the market like fine or masterwork items were before luck became an item.

Take the gods for instance. It’s no coincidence that they were effectively removed from the story(or world) at the end of Nightfall. The new writers already had plans to introduce new playable races into the game, and having the gods appearing to drastically favor humanity presented a problem to this. The gods were the top dogs of Tyria up until that point; they literally were the creators and keepers of all things magical related. To remedy this situation, they simply came up with a scenario that would 1) remove them from their influence in the world(end of Nightfall) and 2) create a valid historical premise in which they actually are not the apex beings of Tyria by severely downplaying their role in magic.

I do believe this is complete nonsense you’re spewing. After Nightfall, there was initially plans for a 4th expansion/setting (however you want to term the different chapters of the original Guild Wars games), but it was later scrapped when it learned that the player base wasn’t excited about just new professions and skills. I don’t remember how quickly Eye of the North came out after Nightfall, and I don’t know when exactly they decided to scrap the game and build a new engine, but the gods were not completely written out then just because of the sequel game. It may have progressed to that, but that was never the original plan.

2. She’s allied with Norn, Sylvari, Asura, and most notably Charr – all of them undermine her sovereignty over Kryta. Using a Sylvari enforcer to take down the biggest threat to her power will NOT go over well with the common people. The charr one is especially troubling.

I get the issue with the charr, but what’s the problem with the other three races? Humans were never at war with any of them.

Pride/Arrogance/Sovereignty. Humans like being the indisputed master of their world, though they tolerate other races not interfering (Or, at best, interfering in a minor, pro-human way. They’ll applaud a Norn helping fend off a Grawl or Charr assault, for example – as long as said Norn doesn’t seek any sort of authority or station as a reward).

Yeah, I’m going to need you to back up that claim with some sort of proof. I don’t remember seeing anything like that from any group of humans except MAYBE the White Mantle, and we haven’t seen much of them until quite recently (at least, in their present form). It doesn’t have to be much: idle chatter in any of the settlements, something mentioned in any of the instances, even an item description that people may not have necessarily read. Humans seem to have had pretty good relations with both norn and asura ever since their first encounter back during Eye of the North, and the game goes out of its way to show that all 5 races are happily working together to defeat the dragons (at least for now).

Despite playing the game since near launch, it’s only recently that I thought I’d try my hand at RPing in this game. There was definitely a bit of adjustment to getting started, but I found that if you get the right group of people, it can be a very fun experience for all.

I can’t tell too much from your description about how you tried to join in, or why they reacted that way, but the advice I’d offer you is to ask them through a whisper if it was OK to hop in. Personally, if I’m RPing somewhere in the world, I’ll accept anyone who just happens to come by. Of course, the key there is that you need to actually be there in person, and not try to RP from one district over.

In any case, like a few other people, add me to your friends list and give me a whisper if you see me online. I’m an altaholic, so there’s never a shortage of RP to be had with me.

Personally, I’d be happy if the minor runes could be sold in bulk at vendors just like junk trophies. Either as a separate button, or an option to have them counted as junk.

Alternate option is to throw 4 different minor runes/sigils into the mystic forge to get a single one back with a chance of upgrading to a major rune. But I just don’t have the inventory space or patience for that.

Konig already rebutted this point, but we do know why the bandits are only causing problems in certain places. If that part leaked out, things might be quite different for the Minister Beetlestone.

Apparently, there were originally supposed to be crypts under Divinity’s Reach, along with some docks, but they never made it into final development. Perhaps in a Living World Patch? My Order after forging the Pact

I think the part that got you confused is the comment that the Pact leader shouldn’t have ties to any of the three Orders, which is why the main character becomes second in command, not first – it would be showing favouritism. None of the Order members ever leave their order, they merely get reassigned to the Pact and fight on the front lines. Trahearne was never a member of any of the three Orders, so he becomes the leader. All the NPCs that respond to Order of Whispers, Vigil or Durmand Priory members will still respond the same way after joining the Pact.

No. The main character left their order to become an impartial unit within the pact able to make impartial decisions.

This isn’t true. If you joined the Priory, Ela Makkay recognised your status during Hidden Arcana. I think the player character rose to a high enough rank that we won’t be sent out on missions, but if we wanted to call on their resources for some reason, we could. This may come up if either the Vigil or the Order or Whispers plays a major role in a future chapter. (I don’t think Almorra is enough, especially as she was more a Pact ambassador than the leader of the Vigil.)

After HoT (see LS3,ch2.) the player officially exited their office as pact commander to lead the new guild Dragon’s Watch.

Those duplicates were exactly copies, short of being made of flesh, while I don’t think any of the corpses from the blighting trees were recognisable after the transformation. Plus, it’s possible that Logan and Zojja had only recently been put in the pods, or at least not as long as we believed. The sylvari, he instantly corrupted when he could (that one Nightmare Courtier being an exception, probably so that we realize Nightmare Court did not mean Mordrem servants), and the rest? Maybe they needed to be starved in preparation or some such.

As much as I enjoy people bicker and quarrel on this forum, I’d like to redirect this a bit more closely to the original topic and the flaws made in his comparison. I didn’t notice it at first, but this image here

redirected my attention to it. The OP is claiming that Vabbi is adjacent to the Crystal Desert, which is categorically untrue. The adjoining points between Prophecies and Nightfall was the southeastern tip of the Crystal Desert, and the northwestern point of the Desolation. Vabbi is significantly further to the east, not even remotely visible on the current map of Tyria we have. In fact, we’d have to detour south through Kourna to get to Vabbi (at least we did back then. No idea what the Desolation looks like today).

Also, if we want to say that the Shiverpeaks are like the Ural mountains, that would make Ascalon Asia, or at least mostly Russia. The charr are far too militaristic to be Russians. No, the dredge have that honour, comrade.

Rognik.2579

I really hope they never need to make a Guild Wars 3. The only reason we have a Guild Wars 2 is because the original engine was far too restrictive for what they wanted to do. We went from a 90% instanced world to a 90% open-world (not counting story instances). Humans only got traded in for 5 races (and it might sadly stay that way). Let’s not make a new game until this engine has to give up the ghosts.

As for the world, who’s to say that we’ll stop at 6 dragons? We already know that killing 2 of them makes the others far worse. Maybe there are other dragons out there. Maybe there’s some bigger bad that the dragons were actually protecting us from. Maybe we’ll actually get to go beyond the Tyrian continent and see some of the lands teased at us from the Hidden Archive’s floor. The map we can see is huge, and we’ve only explored a tiny sliver of it.

Seriously dude, chill with these comments :v

You know, I totally get where you’re coming from. If you read my comment closely, you’ll have noticed that I said there is a serious lack of male characters from the party. I get that Braham isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, we have two humans but both female, and while the sylvari are human where it counts, we don’t have a recurring male there, either. When I suggested Rytlock, it was more of a joke than a real suggestion. I mean, if you want to say that you’re only attracted to the in-game humans, I’d have been cool with that, but I wanted to tease you a little. Sorry if you feel that went too far. Everyone has such a knee-jerk reaction on the internet these days. I’m not triggered so much as want to explain myself until I’m clearly understood.

So yeah. Bring on the men, please! I don’t think we’ve seen a gay male couple since… Bercilac? Or bring back Logan. I’m sure we can get him stripped of his rank, too, so that he’s free to join Dragon’s Watch. Or would that take him away from stalkingprotecting Queen Jennah for too long?

Squee, you’re a bit confused there. It’s become a trope for the short, goblinoid race to be very “flighty”, as you put it, in their advanced technology in a magical age that also has a tendency to blow. Asura tech is reliable, it does what it’s supposed to, most of the time. The trouble the asura run into is that it works too well, or some unforeseen complication arises that then causes things to backfire. For example, there’s an asuran lab in Metrica Province experimenting on skritt. After rounding up a bunch of them into a cell (and it’s only like 7 or 8 of them in there), the skritt get smart enough to unlock the cage and decide to attack the scientists… for some reason. A similar experiment is trying to make an ettin smarter, but the method to do so turns him into an angry berserking monster.

Complaint: Player character and Caithe

in Living World

Posted by: Rognik.2579

Rognik.2579

I’ll admit, the personalization of the player character has gone down since the personal story, and probably even more when the voices came back for Heart of Thorns. Part of this is because it’s expensive to have multiple lines recorded, needing to cover every situation that could possibly arise from the choice. Plus, we as people are sometimes going to have different reactions to things than other people. The fact that the story has been streamlined means that specialization must be sacrificed, even a little bit.

That said, if it were any of the other DE members, I’d say that’s probably fair. But this is Caithe we’re talking about. Even as a member of Destiny’s Edge, she was secretive and seen as distrustful. I wasn’t happy about her stealing the egg, and then having to chase her all over to the Wastes to catch up with her and she STILL gives us the slip. Then when we do finally catch up with her, she doesn’t offer to help, doesn’t try too explain herself, and with sylvari being turned into mordrem left-and-right, it would’ve been easy to assume she’d been corrupted. She made a mistake and we can’t always rely on narrative tropes to ensure that she’s on the right side. Heroes do some pretty dumb things, too; some even betray their friends if they think it’s for the greater good.

So try not to take it personally when your avatar starts berating Caithe, as Caithe is very used to taking on the blame and there’s only so much story the writers can reasonably implement at a time. And things do get better by the end of the chapter (if you haven’t gotten that far, I’ll try not to spoil things further).

Firearms

in Ranger

Posted by: Rognik.2579

Rognik.2579

I’ve never really liked the fact firearms were added to the game in the first place. Maybe comming from a too realistic point of view: putting 2 evenly (non) skilled persons against each other, 1 with a modern firearm, the other with a classic shortbow or longbow, the modern firearm would always win. I find firearms way too powerful and modern to be implemented in game.

The others have given pretty good arguments about why pistols and rifles aren’t that bad in this setting, especially where magic can mess with what we’d normally consider logical, but there’s one other thing that I wanted to address. You keep picturing modern firearms, the kind that you see out on the street. The guns we have in game are probably from the flintlock era. What that means is that you pour some gunpowder down the shaft, load the bullet, kitten the pistol then aim and fire.

Flintlock pistols and rifles were not known for their accuracy, even at point blank range, and it’s only over centuries of refinement has the aim on them significantly improved. If we were being totally realistic, the recharge on pistols should be way longer than reloading an arrow. But that wouldn’t be fun, and if we’re not worried about having enough ammo, why let other real life concerns get in the way?

Plus, magic. Magic guns, magic bows, possibly even magic melee weapons.

Ebonhawke asura gate

in Lore

Posted by: Rognik.2579

Rognik.2579

The actual tech of the asura gates is kept pretty tight-lipped in-game, partly because the asura zealously guard their tech. Knowledge is more precious than gold for them, but gold helps. However, what the novels do reveal to us it that the asura gates could always be attuned to other gates, but it usually took a lot of work to turn the dials and flip the levers. They basically get taken down for maintenance. That’s probably why the gates we generally find in-game are perma-connected to each other.

As for any transportation accidents that happen with the gates, not that I recall. When humans first met the asura, they had long perfected portal technology and had a massive hub of asura gates connecting their entire network. However, that’s also where Primordus had been sleeping. (Probably not a coincidence.) So it’s highly improbable that something would go wrong before an asura tech noticed. Then again, this is the asura we’re talking about, where magical mishaps occur daily.

I’m pretty sure that, if working properly, it takes two gates to be tuned to each other to form the purple wormhole that connects the two places. However, because there is so little known about the gates, and you’re writing fanfiction not canonized lore, I think you can take a few liberties with it. I would suggest the following options, depending on how you want the story to take place:
1. Just before stepping into the portal, there’s a mana surge and the portal destabilises. As you had already entered the portal, it had to dump you out somewhere, and the terminal flashes in the middle of nowhere (similar to the portals in Queensdale’s swamp) before winking out of existence, leaving you trapped wherever you are.
2. As the asura had a whole bunch of gates set up across the continent, and even on Elona and Cantha, it’s possible for a poorly-tuned gate (or one that was mishandled) to latch onto one of these abandoned gates just long enough to send a passenger through, but then shorts out because the other gate hadn’t been used in over 200 years.

If you want to learn more about what is documented about asura gates in the novels, I believe it’s in Ghosts of Ascalon. DR’s portal had to be retuned to have its traffic go to Ebonhawke instead of its previous destination, and it’s treated almost like an airline flight (or maybe train would be a better comparison, given airport security these days).

Magic types and Dragons (spoilers!)

in Lore

Posted by: Rognik.2579

Rognik.2579

We always knew that magic came in “different flavors”. Even back in GW1, we had dark, chaos, holy, and elemental (further divided into water, fire, earth, and air/lightning) magic – in addition to the four schools of magic.

OK, pausing it here for a moment. Maybe this was just my interpretation (and it’s been a while, so forgive me if I occasionally forget these things), but I always assumed these weapons that did dark. chaos, holy and elemental damage was directly tied to each class’s magic speciality: Necros used dark magic, Mesmers chaos, Monks holy, and Elementalists elemental. So I wouldn’t call the schools of magic different.

Elder Dragon domains haven’t been directly associated with magic usable by the races, nor was dragon magic ever considered such (it was always used to describe the corruptive magic Elder Dragons and their minions spread).

You’re right that learning the domains of the other ED is important, though – we know one of them for three EDs (Ice for Jormag, Crystal for Kralkatorrik, Fire for Primordus) and we have strong indication for the second domain for two EDs (Soul/Spirit for Jormag, Air/Sky for Kralkatorrik), but both for the DSD’s are unknown.

I feel like Kralkatorrik’s main sphere is probably more Order. Crystal has never really been labeled as an element, but the concept of crystals is these random particles align into a beautiful and precise order, mostly on its own. Now Order is the opposite of Chaos, and I think most people will agree that Chaos is one of the types of magic, so I feel that its opposite must also exist, thus Order. Might even be tied to holy magic somehow, calling back to the monks of old.

I’ll eat my rare adventurer’kitten if one of the DSD’s spheres isn’t Water. After all, it’s the Deep Sea Dragon.

And finally, I don’t remember if I said it before or not, but we’d need a full list of what all the magic realms are. We can guess and intuit, but without the Priory telling us, I’m not sure we ever would’ve known Zhaitan was Shadow and Death (what’s the difference?) and Mordremoth was Mind and Plants (although the plant part was kinda obvious). Do the dragons rule over all the realms of magic, or are there branches that are untouched for one reason or another?

There are two types of sleeper agents, at least in fiction: those who know they are sleeper agents, lying to everyone; and those who don’t, and are activated. In this case, the sylvari are the latter kind, triggered by Mordremoth speaking in their mind.

And how do you know that Mordremoth’s minions are not sentient? We never studied the mordrem like we did the others. We can’t even compare them to the other dragons, because by his very nature (having the Mind aspect), he can potentially bestow something the other dragons can’t: conscious thought. In fact, to prove the opposite, that elder dragons can have sentient thoughts, I point to Glint. Sure, the Forgotten had to cleanse her with magic first, but I doubt that magic granted her her powers, to write the Flameseeker Prophecies, to befriend the heroes when they arrived in her lair. There is a dragon minion that was sapient, with or without free will.

The Bloodstone contains magic that the other Elder Dragons hadn’t yet taken… what if the Seers put in entire domains in it – namely, four of them? (yup, the schools)

That would mean there are not 12 but 16 domains of magic – at least – in the world. And it would then answer the discrepancies in the profession-to-ED magical fields. Even moreso if professions use multiple domains.

Let’s not expand this too far before we learn more. Currently, we’re just learning that magic comes in different flavours, but we don’t even know what that fully means. Is death magic the only magic necromancers use? How easy is it to mix magic, or filter magic (like light through a prism)? What are the realms of the other 4 (known) dragons? Where do magic users draw their magic from? Not all of these are necessarily relevant, but if we get too far ahead of ourselves, we’re just going to go down the wrong path and not really learn anything. I think it might be better to just hold tight until we learn more.

He doesn’t behave like a minion, though.

We’ve seen how minions behave when their master is sleeping – Svanir, the Destroyers, etc. The dragon is their overriding concern even if the dragon is sleeping (Svanir was following orders from Drakkar, the Destroyers were worshiping the sleeping Primordus and probably funneling magic to him somehow).

Malyck was not thinking about Mordremoth at all, from what we can see, including a ritual intended to probe his origins.

Then again, Mordremoth is the dragon of the Mind. This might have been part of his initial plan, to create a sentient race that integrates with the other races, then turns traitor as soon as he wakes up enough of the sylvari get close enough. We didn’t see ANY mordrem until Scarlet Briar drilled in Lion’s Arch, so we don’t know what their default behaviour is. We also don’t know where the initial mordrem minions come from. The humanoid ones, the archers and the warrior types, are corrupted sylvari, but what about the husks? The wolves? The terragriffs?

Unless any of you have a good counter, I’m going to work under the theory that sylvari are sleeper agents, totally normal until Mordremoth activates them. It’s only thanks to the Dream and strong willpower that prevents all sylvari from succumbing. Where did the Dream come from? Absolutely no idea.

The classes don’t split magic the same way they did in GW1. Yeah, each of the 6 initial classes had one of the gods as a patron (with Elementalist essentially worshipping them all), but we also have many more martial base classes than base then.

Also, Primordus uses fire magic, which is mostly Elementalist and Guardian (although that’s closer to holy fire). If the mesmer’s magic is close to anything, it’s either Mordremoth’s mind magic or Kralkatorrik’s crystal magic (it’s purple, and the champion is called The Shatterer. Pretty sure Kralk’s anti-chaos while the mesmer is pro-chaos).

The core game is being bundled, because that’s the base leveling method of the game, and having to buy both the core and the expansion separately is annoying. However, expansion 2 will be going elsewhere in Tyria, not requiring us to walk through the Maguuma (unless something really weird happens in the story). So don’t start assuming TOO much before we have more information, either empirically or extrapolated.

Mastery Point: I would really like to see this one for people who just can’t complete the MP challenges left to acquire the remaining masteries they want. Of course, the amount of XP needed to fill the bar would be huge, and would likely have to increase with each MP acquired (eg: each MP requires 30% more XP than the previous one)

Spirit Shard: As that’s what it was before masteries (with skill points) and after the revision, no problem here.
Gold: Leads to the increased inflation of the game, but I don’t think 1 gold per “level” is any worse than any of the other gold-farming methods.
Dungeon Tokens: I don’t like this idea, unless it’s tied directly to running dungeons. I mean, maybe it could work if you’re exploring in the same map as the dungeon’s entrance. This would definitely need to be sealed away behind completing at least the story mode of the dungeon, which I think far too few players do these days.
Map Currency: Again, only if it’s tied to that map in particular. I could see a nightmare of having to track 7 different map currencies simultaneously, and I don’t think it’s worth the computing powers. And I don’t want to, say, be able to earn geodes while I’m running around Bloodstone Fen. Some players may, but I don’t think that follows the spirit of masteries very well.
Mastery Points: Tempting, but I kind of feel like extra mastery points would just sit there, unspendable anywhere, unless Miyani decides to offer us something for excess mastery points or something like that. No, I feel the number of mastery points should be closer to the maximum number of points that can be spent.

One alternative that could be offered is bonus bags of loot, perhaps ones that promise at least rares or exotics. Crafting materials are always welcomed drops, and as they get consumed through crafting, will never totally bloat the system; rare component like onyx shards would be especially welcome.

Nitpicking about the story!

And i am sitting here, hoping to find out who is E.. Hope he is at least hot..

Everyone’s young-looking and hot in Tyria, even the old people. It’s probably all the magic. Better than botox.

As a woman.. I wish… Npc men were like that too..
Every girl in LA is crazy about Logan, while looking at his face i see a regular looking and too old guy..
Then there is Faren, who is once again loved by ministry women.. But his personality just makes him ugly anyway :v
The only guy that i found good looking and who had an impact on the story was Doern V., but he quickly dissapeared as the story progressed.. And you didnt even find out anything about him.. So yeah.

When you look at dragons watch there is Majory and Kasmeer who work as sort of fanservice for men, but for how many girls i know are in gw, there is no good looking guy for them..

So some accualy nice looking guy who wouldnt entirely dissapear from the story would be nice :v

I guess Braham isn’t doing anything for you? Or are you just racist against any males who aren’t humans? In any case, Doern may come back when we have an Order of Whispers plotline. We had the Priory involved in Season 2, and Almorra showed up last chapter, so we’re due for a Whisper of their activities pretty soon.

By the way, who says that E is even a male? He might be Mister E, but we’ve mostly communicated with “him” in letters.

To the OP, I’ll concede that the storytelling could probably be a bit better, but here’s the thing: MMOs are still a pretty new medium for storytelling. Novels have been around practically since the written word existed, or older if you count narrative traditions. Movies are only about 100 years old, and some of the early ones aren’t that great. MMOs are only about a decade old, and most of them don’t tell a concise overarching story. At best, they tended to be “here’s a huge baddy. Chase him through the world and see what he’s really doing.” So ArenaNet is experimenting, throwing a whole bunch of story threads into the air and hoping they’ll be able to tie them all up before everything’s said and done. Guild Wars 1 had great storytelling, but each season (ie. Prophesies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North) was created from beginning to end long before it got released, so it was far easier to make something that appeared early in the story come back in a timely manner. With live releases, that becomes far harder.

ArenaNet has always had the goal of trying something new, as least within the scope of Guild Wars 2. So long as every old plot thread isn’t ignored, or the game ends for some reason, we can cling to the hope that some of all of these plot threads will come back in the future.

And besides that, if it was Ventari and his tablet that freed the Pale Tree… how the hell did Malyck and his tree get free from Mordremoth?

Nothing says that Malyck was free of Mordremoth’s grip. Maybe his entire tree were the first mordrem we met, activated only after Mordremoth’s awakening. Still too much of the errant sylvari – not Soundless, nor a Dreamer, nor in Nightmare – to really know what’s going on with him and his origins. Too many unanswered questions, and no map to clue us in. Yet.

Concerning Lazarus, I am quite sure he will betray us in a way or another. I know my point is weak but if he was genuine I do think the writers would have included Kas in the instance. Because last season there was this emphasis about her gift to detect lies and having Lazarus on the good side would have been confirmed by Kasmeer saying " I now it’s strange but I cannot feel the lies in his speech… I think we can trust him".

Her being away since the beginning of the season makes a good moment for a character to lie to us. I could also imagine some dramatic tension between Kasmeer and Marjory because Jory will trust too much Lazarus (maybe even be hypnotized by him) while Kas will try to argue that she should be careful.
But in the first time I wonder if Lazarus will make the PC help him to purge the White Mantle from the Caudecus followers (an arc that got opened in episode 1)in order to have full control of the organization. PC (supported by Jory) will see this as a good way to strengthen Jenna’s power in Divinity’s Reach, while Lazarus will purify (and then expand) his own army.

As I mentioned elsewhere in the forum, Kasmeer also said that she had trouble reading the Itzel, at least at first. Now, they were still hylek and I’m sure she met hylek before, sbo she wasn’t completely unfamiliar with them, but Lazarus is a mursaat, a species no one has (reportedly) seen in 2 centuries. She’d have a hard time reading him right at the start, but after hanging out with him kind of like how Marjory is/will be, she’d get to know the pattern. This could allow for a dramatic reveal where he leads us into a trap moments after Kasmeer realized he’d been lying to us the whole time. Besides, having a human lie detector with us for every possible ally turns her more into a crutch than an actual character. Finally, if she was with us there in Tarir, we might have had to leave her there as Marjory is with Lazarus and Caithe spying on them both. Her absence means she’s free to go elsewhere. Maybe she’s been hanging out with her mesmer buddies.

There might be a vague similarity on the surface, but I think that’s as far as it goes. Elona definitely didn’t look anything like Africa when we were down there, and it’s a large lake north of Divinity’s Reach, not an ocean. Of course, I’m drawing straws rather than truly arguing your point. In any case, I’m not going to say it’s a coincidence, but I don’t think it’s a significant reveal, either.

[Feedback] Living World Season 3 - Episode 2

I shared a tiny bit of this in the main thread, but I want to refine and expand a bit on my feedback. I love having new story content, especially free ones that just require logging in to get, but I feel like a bit of the varied personality has been lost. Quickk treats my asura exactly the same as my charr, or my human, or my norn. My charr won’t come to Rytlock’s aid, or question his decision to refuse a call from the Black Citadel. Basically, I want to see a bit more personality come out from the choices we made at character creation, or even possibly through the story steps. I do realize what a monumental task this is, but even as recently as in Heart of Thorns, where my asura will show just as much disbelief about Rata Novus as Taimi does without it alienating me as a player is one of those things that makes the story more engaging, at least for me. They don’t have to be big changes, but just something to make that initial choice mean something.

As far as the actual content, like the map or the battles, I thought they were really fun. I always thought that destroyers should be far more vulnerable to ice damage, kind of like how there were different damage types in the original game. Is this new weakness because of the merging of two types of dragon magic, or just an update in design philosophy? Doesn’t matter, I love it all the same. I just hope the guardians get a cold build for their next speciality rather than default burning. It irks me to see “Immune” flash on every 5th guardian attack as that’s not something i can control yet.

Assuming the next expansion follows the same pattern as the previous one, Season 3 will keep coming out until we’re the threshold of the expansion to kill the next dragon. However, we’re only 2 chapters in. Come back in 6 more chapters (8 total) before speculating that the expansion is ready. Of course, nothing says they have to have only 8 chapters. I’ll be perfectly happy if they have 6 or 10 total (though more is always better) if that is what it takes to tell the story they want.

Me, I’d have had some compassion and let him know for sure that Ogden’s alive and admired. It can’t be easy wondering if you’re the last of your kind.

Or the reverse. Priory members especially should be heading back to let Ogden know another of his kind survived… sort of.

I doubt that there are any other mursaat left. For a long time, we thought even Lazarus was well and truly gone, even though everyone out-of-game was convinced he’d come back. If there are others, though, where would they be hiding?

Why didn’t the Elder Dragons fight each other since they could get a huge magic boost after one’s death?

Probably because if two dragons of equal power fight, there’s a good chance the initiator could lose. Why risk it when there’s plenty of easy prey elsewhere?

The thing is, we don’t even really know what being chosen meant. I’m pretty sure all the talk of purifying and rituals was just to make it all seem more important while the Eye goes around and identifies targets. Then they all got rounded up and slaughtered on the bloodstone. It’s entirely possible that it is some mursaat relic, but I doubt we’ll be seeing it again. Or maybe we will; ArenaNet has sprung a lot of surprises on us lately.

The Living World chapters (starting with season 2) are essentially personal story steps, except there’s usually something new added along with it. The only real difference is that HoT instances usually have 2 paths to choose from (but not always), while all the living world instances are streamlined to one path. The original Personal Story, though is non-repeatable, in part because the choices made in earlier chapters change a lot more things than just what happens in that instance.

I’m not certain if you’ll necessarily enjoy it as a class, but I’d like to recommend getting a ranger. The unique thing about that class is it gives you an unofficial collection of pets to find out in the world to tame. There are like 20 pets to find in the core game, with 4 added to Heart of Thorns maps. However, if you don’t enjoy collecting stuff, I’d avoid that one. Even if you only have 4 active pets at a time (2 on land and 2 by sea), taming all the pets means some extra variety in your build. Plus, rangers use both type of bows (the only class to use both long and short, I believe), and the elite class has the staff.

1. The Living Story, like everything else that uses instances, allows you to take up to 4 friends in with you. They don’t even need to have the chapters unlocked, except they won’t earn any rewards unless they have the chapter unlocked and active. I know you can take friends in with you for the Caithe missions, but I forget what happens to them if you do.

2. For the achievements, there is a pretty generous mix of styles of what you need to do to earn them. I haven’t completed them all, so I can’t really say if they are easier or harder than any other.

3. Depends on the achievement. I still haven’t done all of them, but they seem to be more or less in the same style of things to do. For instance, one achievement is to not get defeated during Taimi’s Game (which is definitely easier if you have friends).
