You’re slightly slower in combat. If you dodge/evade the attacks, you will not enter combat and will not slow down.

It’s a team game, play as a team. I have no issues with the current system and would not like to see it changed.

Regardless of previous posts, zerging is not an interesting method of game play.

Just burst them. If they stealth, just run in the opposite direction for 3 seconds to make sure they don’t spike you.

I don’t think the map is the reason for RTL being nerfed, but because it offered too much of one thing for the Elementalist, who is already the jack of trades.

In order to be balanced, if they are to have access to heals, damage, movement, CC. etc. it must be below that of other classes. Otherwise, why would you pick a specialised class, when you can have it all?

Sword leap should be, though jump shot should not (as jump shot is ground target aoe).

When i play Spirit Watch as a Necro, it just feels like the entire map is designed against me.

I see people leaping and zapping all over the map as orb carriers. As the least mobile class this is annoying.

Then to see people doing all this stuff whilst being invunerable? Its stupid. Defeats the point of the map.

Abuse your CC then, fear them off the ledges, corrupt their boons. You only need one orb carrier in a team, really.

It’s very much the default setup for anything difficult. Shortbow has so much utility, I’d never run without it. Pistol offhand is similar in its utility and therefore is another common option.

It’s not vital, but it is an option to overcome this change.

If anyone is struggling with dungeon runs as a result, simply having a pistol off-hand, using black powder and cluster bombing it at a reasonable distance from mobs, followed by a shadow refuge and again by black powder and cluster bombs if need be. This should be more than enough to drop agro on mobs!

This also provides the revealed debuff, which is 3 seconds to take advantage of. Even if they begin evade spamming, you’re already eating away at their initiative pool. Very easy to counter a thief if you know what you’re doing.

It can’t take away your skills, really. Otherwise it presents a 4vs5 scenario, though it could also add another level of thought to the game mode. In that not taking the orb initially and attempting to score kills may be more beneficial, it could also mean that trying to score the orb after a single kill could help level the playing field of a team fight.

Either way, ride the lightning should scale with movement speed.

I have a feeling the popularity was possibly due to the limited time frame…

I believe I’m using a very similar setup, though mine is an AMD-A6-4300 with a 6520G.

The only times I have trouble are in very large scale events or WvW. I run on low settings, with rendering on the middle setting (can’t recall the name).

The skill is very strong and well designed considering the other of necromancer’s traits and skills. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

You can counter a backstab thief, but they can’t counter your counter. I can’t help but feel it’s just people not wanting to learn to counter it, because it’s so easy when you figure out how your class can counter it.

Any kind of competitive play, I’m only really useful in team fights, very rarely can I catch someone in a 1v1.

Against thief, just try running with the blind well. I can’t do anything against a good necro, let alone if they use that skill.

First point isn’t true.

Heal skill is a cloak, yes. But it doesn’t remove movement impairing conditions (unless traited in the defensive trees).

That initial burst is 6 initiative and their main spike on CD though. Just mist forming or armour of earthing and healing should leave you pretty comfortable to fight them.

You do not have one weapon set. Both staff and sword allow you two do AoE pressure.

Condition removal requires points to be put in to a defensive tree, lowering the thief’s damage output. Also, attempting to kill a condition removal spec, with condition spec is not going to be easy. It can however be done by preventing them stealthing (using the method which prevent cloak and dagger being spammed).

On the note of the movement speed and cond removal, this requires at least 30 points in defensive traits, not including the the regeneration trait which would take a further 20. This build again will fall to preventing C&D spam.

Hello, I’m a rank 35 PvPer, who now mains Thief. I began my PvP career switching between all classes and have experience with every single one. I play a mixture of hotjoin, free tournaments and paid tournaments (my focus being on free tournaments).

IMPORTANT
One mistake so many make when playing PvP games is not playing as their opposition. If you do not understand a class, you will not have the grounds to counter what they’re doing effectively.

On the grounds I have switched classes constantly since release, playing them all at a competitive level, I would I have a good understanding and give most a hard time.

Thief being one of people’s biggest problems, I thought I’d share some basic concepts for countering standard thief play which many seem to have trouble with.

Common problems:

Thief is not the ultimate class, it is simply a class with a lot of tricks. Tricks which once understood put you at a huge advantage over the thief and allow you to use counters which they cannot then counter again.

Why have I given out this information?
It’s not fun seeing other people have a bad time when playing a game and having them know your classes dirty tricks simply puts you on a level playing field and can give fights a more meaningful outcome – as opposed to the common Alt + F4 ending.

Without burst, what is a thief?

It’s easily countered through movement, blocking or break stuns.

It’s in order to take the random effect from your damage. If you notice weapons hit from x to y damage.

It’s to allow builds to be tested without that factor having an effect on the results.

I think you’ve gotten confused with the principle of balancing around 5v5.

It’s very easy to counter.

Shelter, in my opinion is the best heal. Purely because you can use it to block so much potential damage and it doesn’t reward you for not using it.

Using Virtue of Resolve quickly is also important. It just takes a little bit of practice so you don’t go in to panic mode.

That’s it, put them down and keep them there. It’s their fault you haven’t used a different site, one that enables you to link it. It’s their thinking process that’s at fault.

So, you think it’s harder for a thief to kill you straight off with no downed state, than it is for them to down you and then stomp you.

With bug fixes and an evaluation of traits and their usefulness, I’d say it’s easily the best PvP.

Downed state is a counter to spike damage, as otherwise it would be the best play style without a doubt.

Moa is totes OP. Wish they’d use time warp, you know, as it’s so UP compared.

It’s intended. Maybe not the message, but the ability to dodge projectiles. Simply move closer or use a different weapon.

Why are only Thieves and Eles mentioned? All classes can get stability and others like engie and mesmers can become invulnerable too, pretty much every class has a way to secure a stomp, not just ele and thief.

Just comes down to how important the items you want are to you.

I think there is really, with ground target AoEs. If you see them cloak, just aoe their location, certain skills such as the ranger’s traps can immolibise the enemy and keep them in place.

I understand that people have purchased the game and want something which resembles the money they’ve put in to it, but some people seem to simply expect perfection.

The goal of e-sports seems to pull a wall over people’s eyes in regards to skill balancing and how the game’s meta develops and changes over time. What may seem very strong one week, may be completely countered by a new style of play introduced as the meta changes.

Still, to the point of my post, people seem very demanding and unwilling to see slow progression within the game. It’s almost as though people’s lives are hanging in the balance when it comes to this game being perfect – as I said, a very fine line.

It can hold 1v4, provided they are also bunkers or just very poorly specced. I’ve killed bunker eles 1v1 when other members of my group have stated they can’t take them down and we’ve had to switch roles.

Downed state is in the game due to such bursts. Learn to counter it, they’re there by intention.
