Really quite disappointed that the one night this week I could have sat down to play has to be ruined by this stupidity.

I don’t agree with all the whining about the April Fool’s joke; that whole thing is ridiculous. But you have absolutely no right to tell someone how they should choose to grieve or cope with grief. When my brother died last year, I played video games as a way to help me get through hard days. I also took my kids to see a movie to cheer us all up when we went back home for his funeral.

Being in mourning does not mean you have to become a shut-in who doesn’t participate in social activities.

I’ve suffered loss myself. No, I didn’t shut myself in and give up on life for good but I gave myself a break from certain activities while the pain was still fresh. Most importantly, I didn’t shame other people for going about their lives normally and amusing themselves. That’s what upsets me here. I’m calling into question why they should care about a game event at a time like this in their lives! Their fresh full of grief and they’re lashing out a insignificant things.

Honestly, I think 98% of the complaints here aren’t even coming from a place of grief. Rather, it’s coming from a place of annoyance (at the arm position, at the supposed betrayal of Anet for not letting them opt out, and so on). So yeah, their annoyance rage is making them lash out at a video game prank that lasts 24 hours.

Then you have to worry about upsetting those who have recently been in car accidents or who have lost loved ones to car accidents.

There is no reason for them to change it from airplanes to anything else because silent films, people pretending to be airplanes, and an old game bug have nothing to do with real-life tragedies.

You can put on a helm, use a tonic, and then leave the tonic form to get rid of the head gear. But you’ll be a plane no matter what, until the day is over.

You can play today. You can “opt out” of the sepia tone by turning off post processing.

Disabling dialog sounds doesnt change the fact that all sounds are going through that “nostalgia” filter. Like sitting inside a metal barrel. Its horrid. If you cant hear it, you cant have good enough headphones.

I don’t play using headphones; I just use my speakers. The sound hasn’t been bothering me at all. If a sound DOES bother me, I turn my speakers down and continue playing.

Yeah except that Google still works last time I checked. Its not like maps is down for 24 hours, translate make everything Klingon for 24h or google search return images of nyancat no matter what you search for, is it?

Anets “prank” break the game. Sounds and visual filters give people headaches and no animations and tags visible through walls break gameplay in WvW.

Guess what else still works? The game. I’m currently killing ettins for Ettin Slayer. The sounds and visual filters can be turned off. As for the tag thingy, I’ll admit that’s odd and unfortunate. But, again, the game is very much playable.

SAB won’t ever come on April 1st. Or, if it does, it won’t be until the game is on the tail end of its development life cycle. People need to stop assuming that it’ll come back on April 1st. :\

It’ll be back eventually, and I look forward to it. Until then, I guess we’ll have to deal with the “SAB OR RIOTTTTT” crowd.

Yeah, having them become tradeable would be great. Then I could give them to guildies who do pvp and stuff.

I agree. First black lion chest I opened on my second account had 5 of these tokens. They’re 100% useless to me.

You unlock them every 10 levels. I THINK it’s said somewhere in-game, but I don’t know for sure. A notice about it would be helpful.

You can turn off the sepia tone by turning off post processing, and you can turn down the dialogue volume to get rid of the airplane sound. The only way you can get rid of the airplane arms is to use tonics. It’ll be there until tonight.

“Inconveniencing”, lol. The game is still playable. You can turn off the sounds and the sepia tone/film scratches. If you can’t handle a one day joke, then please don’t play Guild Wars games on April Fool’s day every year.

Honestly, without proof, this just sounds like a case of not actually seeing what you think you’re seeing.

I honestly don’t even like the “+1” option we have. Adding a “-1” option would be a silly idea. Using reddit as an example here: people will downvote posts for any number of reasons, many of which don’t relate to the validity of what’s being said. Upvoting/downvoting is just based on knee jerk reactions and not necessary at all.

Calm down. Read what we said above. You can play with your friend without being on the same server, as long as it’s not for wvw.

Unless you plan on playing wvw a LOT, you can join any server and play with your friend in pve and spvp. And, if you happen to catch your friend’s server not being full, you can delete your characters to transfer for free (all of your account items and gold will remain).

Yes i am aware. but not everyone knows this, and most just stopped playing. None of my guild or my friends ever check the forums cause of their usual toxicity so how is the majority of the player base supposed to know?

As I said, I don’t think this was a bad idea. For every role player this may have offended, there is a player who is currently running around LA giggling their butt off at how funny this is to them. Why does one section of the player population matter more than another?

GW2 is a continuation of GW1, which made a big deal of its April Fools events every year. The first year was a gender swap. The next year, everyone was a stick figure. The next year, everyone was Gwen-chan. And so on, and so on. So, making a big deal out of a game playing a prank, even one that removes a choice of participating, seems odd to me when they have a history of doing just that.

As for the recent airline tragedy, I do not see the comparison here. These are cartoon character running around like children, pretending to be an airplane, making ridiculous sounds. My first thought when I saw this stuff in game was not “Omg, plane crash”. Heck, the plane crash wasn’t even in the top 10 things I first thought of. I realize other people may make a connection at other times. I also realize that some people are more sensitive to things. However, there is no correlation whatsoever between the April Fool’s Day prank and that awful plane crash.

People obviously have a right to feel how they feel and to even feel offended. But I think it’s completely ridiculous to be truly offended about a very benign (and very temporary) April Fool’s joke.

Yea this joke has royally ticked me off. its ruined my whole week. i get a few hrs a a week to play this game to rewind and relax seeing as its hard for me to relax and calm down and video games helps me and this is the first video game to help me in longtime and thanks to this stupid airplane it has ruined it. When i attack monsters im hitting 30-40 damage i cant kill anything and it seems like i have no armor on. I WANT COMPENSATION FOR THIS BS AND NOT SOME STUPID CRAP. DONT EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN.

The airplane look isn’t affecting your damage. If you’re hitting for crap, it’s because you’re hitting for crap. You won’t get compensation because there is nothing to compensate for. And whining demands at Anet won’t help you here.

On the other hand, it amuses me greatly, and I plan to play tomorrow. For every person who doesn’t like it, there is another who does. You can’t please everyone. Just don’t log in the rest of the daily cycle.

Also, it’s just a game, and the change will be gone in a day. Seriously. If you’re angry over this, that’s just silly.
