It warned you when you loaded in that you wouldn’t get a reward (or at least that’s what I remember it says).
Yup, it’s just his server.
The person you’re buying it from got it via RNG, as I said above; so, you’re still relying on someone’s RNG. I don’t have a problem with buying a precursor from the TP (did it for Kudzu back when I made it), but others do have a problem with it. Those players (for whatever reason) would prefer to not buy it.
The point is as was already said: to provide a way to obtain a precursor that does not rely on RNG (either your own luck with it or someone else’s). That’s it. I, personally, haven’t made a precursor with the collection system yet, and I don’t know if I ever will.
They weren’t meant to be “easier” or cheaper; they’re just meant to be an alternative way (one that doesn’t involve RNG or buying from the TP, which some people don’t want to do) of obtaining the precursor.
Yeah. I got a second one a couple of days ago. The second letter talks about how his pet rat died (and took one of Blaine's toes with him). He also has given himself a fancy title.
Each race can (and does) hang out in any of the cultural cities (Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum, Hoelbrak, The Grove, and Black Citadel) and Lion’s Arch. LA would technically be the “main” city, but all have people hanging around.
You can just play through that last instance again. Just choose to Replay This Chapter in the Story tab, and then go to the location for the final story step to start it up. You will have to play through most of that final instance to get all of the pages, though.
As for what happens if you delete the book that holds the letters: I don’t know what happens if you delete it. I’d imagine that you’d just get a new one once you went back to completing it.
so now that my point is clear maybe Arena Net might think of a way a pure pve player can get ascended gear like armor and weapons with out having to craft
They did; get the Ascended materials option for the monthly chest that you referenced already. I understand that you don’t want to craft (many people do not care for it), but sometimes you’re going to have to step out of your comfort zone and do things you might not love to do. At least, in this case, you can just do absolutely nothing but wait until that reward chest comes up again, choose ascended materials for one time only, and then continue on with your normal gameplay. Although, I’d personally opt just level up one of the cheapest crafts to 500 just so I would have one ready for cases like this . . .
So freaking weird.
If you use unbound to exchange it for a different one, can you keep doing it to unlock all skins?
Yes, you can. The last skin you unlock will be the weapon you end up with, too. So, if you want to keep one particular kind of weapon more than the others, make sure you save that one for last.
Rose, I must correct you. I just did the run through on this. I had the dagger, which is the one I wanted to keep. Second choice for me was scepter (I have ascended sword, shield, and gs already from older content). So I carefully cycled to get scepter last, figuring I could then run the story again and spend mats to get the dagger as I have enough for one weapon. But Ridhais still offered me the swap.
Perhaps you had used up your unbound magic so you thought you couldn’t swap more? Or maybe Ridhais won’t offer it next time I show up in the instance? Regardless, I certainly was able to cycle back to the dagger I started with during my first interaction with her, and then close and reopen dialogue to still get the vendor window.
Ah yeah, you’re right. I forgot that I specifically got just enough unbound magic for it. So, yup, you can keep going after you unlock all the skins, as far as I know (she’s still in my instance anytime I go back in).

Not really a fail at doing the JP, but still a fail:
I leave one of my mesmers parked at the Not So Secret JP for both the chest and to offer ports when I can. One day, someone whispered me asking for a port. I told them sure and to go to the waypoint outside of the JP. Once they were there, I went to the waypoint . . . without dropping my portal first. So, as I loaded in and realized my mistake, I had to sheepishly apologize to the person and promise that I’d port them in just a couple of minutes (after I got back up to the chest), if they still needed it. Luckily, they were a good sport and very patient.
The what?
You have to do story to get those. There’s no way to bypass it, as the items at the vendor only unlock after you’ve earned them completing all of the story achievements for their respective story chapter.
Edit: The other two were unlocked at the vendor because you did the achievements for those two (completed two of the story chapters).

Confusion about the Sword Taxonomy collection
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907
It seems after reset I got the mail from the Pale Tree to come speak with her. I went and talked to her and completed that part. I went back to my home instance and Ridhais had moved a bit but I was able to talk and got the option to trade the sword I got in for a ‘Regrown Caladbolg’ + 1000 unbound magic. The ‘Regrown Caladbolg’ is soulbound but you double click on it to select which of the other weapons you would like. You get the Ascended weapon then which is like all other Ascended weapons. You can open the rest of the collection that way without having to craft anything but you only have one weapon. If you want them all, not just the skins then you would probably have to do the crafting bit.
Yes, it is not clear at all. I think you would need to have a total of 5 characters having gone through HoT in order to actually acquire all 5 weapons. I only had one that did it and cringe at the thought of going through that again….
Thank you for this post. That saved me so much time and gold/materials.
You shouldn’t have to get another sword. The NPC has it, so I think it’s just a typo in the instructions. Just go to the NPC and turn in the other three items.
I really love (almost) everything about the current event from this patch. I was so very excited (and surprised) to see how far it went. Seriously great, Anet. The only thing I didn’t care for was having to shell out 2.5g to replace an item I tossed out over a year ago . . . Five times, too.

Well, it’s an account bound weapon, so you can transfer it to a different character. But that’s very weird that you weren’t given a choice of weapon; mine made me choose.
Delete the tomes, if you don’t want to use them. Create a fresh character, and level it the normal way, if you want. Try out the HoT maps and the new LS maps; they’re more difficult than the Central Tyria maps, for sure.
I’d do neither, personally. But if you’re dead set on gambling for funsies, I’d go for keys. Unless you want the merchant item and achievement for gambling with the ectos.
I, personally, like human necros the best for JPs. Asura are just a bit too bouncy for my brain to register whether or not a jump will work, norn and charr are obviously just too big, but humans and sylvari are just the right size for me. Spectral Walk can be used before a tricky jump, and then you can use Spectral Recall to go back to your starting point if you mess up the jump. Plus, with some falls, popping into Shroud as you fall can keep you from dying from fall damage.
As for a build, I don’t have a special build I use. I just put the +25% movement speed signet and Spectral Walk on my bar. I don’t usually bother with putting the fall damage reduction trait on, but it is an option.
I just wish they’d be consistent with it for both Charr and Asura. Some of the outfits will use the female model, and then others will use the male. Usually, it’ll end up looking at least OK with the default choice (at least on Asura), but then sometimes you get outfits like the Lich one with the weird nipple clamps on your female character . . .
I emailed Anet about recipe that is suppose to drop from a boss in the past and they told me in now drops from the chest. I assume the same for goes for the Replicator. I also got a recipe from TA to drop from a chest, so I don’t think thats the case.
Which chest, though? Because there’s no loot chest that spawns after killing Tazza. Plus, the wiki still says that the recipe is meant to drop from Tazza; I would imagine that, since she hasn’t dropped loot in so many years, someone would have documented the new source by now.
Probably because the recipe is supposed to drop from Tazza (final boss of SE Path 1), and Tazza hasn’t dropped loot in a very long time (if ever).
I believe that if you look at the map from any zone other than Lake Doric, you’ll be able to see what hearts you’ve actually completed for completion; once you enter the Lake Doric zone, the map will show the daily version of your completion.
State of F2P without HoT after the next xpac?

I would imagine that players who don’t buy the future expansion will, indeed, be locked out of raids and other content released specifically for that expansion; I’d also imagine that HoT features will never be included in the F2P version of the game. And I’m fairly certain they’ve already said that future expansions will include the base game and previous expansion(s), but I don’t remember exactly where they said that.

I don’t enjoy crafting, but I still have 500 in every crafting discipline (except for Scribing, in which I have 0, and 400 for Cooking and Jewelcrafting).
The wiki article links to the three nodes’ articles, which have the loot table listed.

Hm. Was your character eligible to do do the “Distorted Reflection” achievement? For the season 2 missions, you usually have to play through the entire story chapter once before you can earn the achievements. So, if this was that character’s first time going through that chapter of season 2, that’s probably why you didn’t get the achievement and reward.
As for your second question, you only earn that Mastery point (the one for completing the level 30 story) once per account, even if you do the story again on a different race. So (for example), once you’ve done the level 30 story and gotten the Mastery Point for it on a human, you can’t go earn it again by doing the level 30 story on a sylvari.
They become one book once you’ve collected them all, I believe. I have one book in my inventory, anyway.
My absolute favorite is Twisted Marionette, followed by the battle on the Breachmaker. Both fights were challenging without being punishing. Plus, the music that played during both encounters is some of the best that Anet has ever produced.
The executioner event you’re trying to do only happens if the White Mantle take Saidra’s Haven (which only happens if the defense for that area fails). But they changed that achievement the other night:
“Renamed the Execute the Executioner achievement to Perfect Execution. This achievement now requires players to complete either the “Defeat the White Mantle and save the villager from burning event” or the “Escort the quaggan refugees to their destinations” event in order to obtain it.”
I’m on the same side as Illconceived as far as whether or not the portal scrolls are worth getting; to me, they’re just a bit of a hassle to shuffle them around, and so it’s not worth it. That being said, I’d love to see a keychain or other option to combine portal scrolls/stones, or (as was suggested above) a new hub in the HoM for those who have bought those items.
Just so you’re aware, this thread is from June 2014. You’d be better off making a new thread on the topic if you want to discuss it.
Uh, what? Maybe post a screenshot of this?
I’m pretty sure he just sends everyone a mail a couple of days after you feed him. I’ve seen a few other people say they got one, and I got one two days after feeding him.
As others already said: It’s not allowed, and Anet employees have expressed that publicly. So, if you opt to AFK farm, you may get reported and then get a suspension.
Thank you for your hard work!
Swapping in a speed boost utility skill for 30 seconds isn’t what I’d call a “gate”, especially since you really don’t even NEED swiftness to make the jumps.
It doesn’t seem to be original GW1 or GW2 music. It sounds more like some mix of something from the Transformers score.
No, the price doesn’t change if you already own one piece of the package.
I’m very much into the story and lore, for GW1/GW2 and other games. For me, a story line that I can get into is a major factor in whether or not I enjoy a game. However, not everyone feels that way, and GW2 is very easy to play without ever really paying attention to the story.
In the human instance, it’s just a bit north of the Cottage Bend POI. It’s denoted by a normal node icon, rather than the icon used in Lake DOric.
I have never experienced a more tedious and frustrating fight in all of GW2.
I don’t know. I’d take the Caudecus fight (even in its original form) over the Mind of Mordremoth fight any day.
I just need the POI here but it’s infuriating to get to solo. Ergo, no map completion for me.
Any tips please?
Join up with a leather farm group via LFG, and follow them until you have the POI.
Or you can go the back way, from the peach tree area. You’ll still have to survive running past quite a few of the centaurs, but it’s more manageable than running in from the front.
Basing the last battle on Death Spamming just gave me a headache… I’d figured out the gimmick to remove the break bar and got him down to 30% health when a Vet Jade shows up. Next time I died I bailed on it. Sheesh.
Anet, please be aware when it stops being fun… I stop doing it out of protest and tell the other players to do the same. End boss battles seem to have this problem most often.
Just so you’re aware, they fixed some of the problems with the final boss encounter. You now have more time to dispel his attack, his knockbacks are less frequent, and the jade bow no longer spawns (been replaced with a carnival npc).
Yup, thank you Rose
I knew they already had to “fix” this one and I played it after that. I was into it for about an hour, had used 3 or 4 repair kits, I got him down to 30% and a Vet. Jade Armor shows up. Within seconds of entering the room I immediately went into a downed state. Oddly, I didn’t see the fun in that after 4 or 5 tries.
Ah. You must be talking about the jade dude that shows up during the first fight (the one in the library). Yeah, they kept the jade bow for that part of it.
