Drakz we already have one, you earn it in pvp
What is it?
I think they are indeed powerful and most of all are cut out for the new content, so they end up being the go to specs for that.
On the other hand it doesn’t make “vanilla” specs unviable. It’s mostly the min-maxing meta attitude that has been a problem for much longer. Most of the time your core spec builds will be perfectly viable, maybe it’ll take you a bit longer to complete content, but not to the point where it becomes a major problem, I think. The min-maxing meta attitude is not the issue. You can choose not to min-max in PvE – sure – but in PvP you’re going to have a very bad time if you’re not on an elite spec.
Not only will you be at a severe disadvantage but your team might direct their anger towards you and some might even stop playing.
The handicap is too big. You’re only looking at PvE – but PvP and WvW are also parts of this game.
Raiding is also a little more demanding.
I am trying to figure out what “grindy” means in GW2 because being “casual” I don’t feel I have to play for days, months or years to reach certain highlights of content like some Korean based MMOs…. now those are grindy.
There are websites out there a-plenty that will guide you, tell you when timers start that open gates, LFG tool to get you there and a decent guild can help you along the way too!
I am a casual player and still think HoT is not that big of a challenge. Maps are rarely failing now that everyone knows what to do and I have not seen a full DS or AB map fail in quite some time. Sure if I cannot get to a main map I don’t stick around for the failure and the “You are all idiots” in the map chat.
I will say that some toons are kinda soft to be roaming HoT. My ranger can down some hefty mobs but recently I had a guardian that just dirt napped all the time in HoT map areas. Then again I only leveled it to get the asc bow for my ranger so I didn’t put much gold in her as she was terminated minutes after acquiring that bow
The new player is probably the only one who may have some issues transferring to HoT because he or she is under geared. OH WAIT..If you buy HoT you get a free boost to 80 with full gear and wep set. Not ideally for the cookie cutter build but plenty enough to keep you alive and hitting HPs to get that elite skill.
Also feel free to hit other HoT maps to get HPs that are easier and wait for maps to fill with HP trains for the harder ones.
It is my humble opinion that there are many paths to getting the job done in HoT and I just cannot say it is hard in the least. Time consuming? Maybe some like DS that can go on for over an hour and a half but hey it’s the reward and loot I am after and sometimes in MMOs you have to earn that stuff!
I suspect many who are having issues are the ones using the instant 80s which happen to be new players who never learned the game or their class, yet blame the content instead of he fact they skipped learning the other content and their class on a first playthrough.
Its on you if you don’t learn the game first, maybe after a few classes you can instant 80 and learn your class easy.
Also there are plenty of people helpful in map chat, but people will say go check out vids to and its a good suggestion, people want you to find some of it on your own to you know.
I always try to help with other peoples builds then I’ll guide them to some guides. Just remember we are players like you, we don’t male money to tell you every little thing that you can find on your own when you tell you where you can go.
Your first statement is quite a generalization. I had had a few 80s (deleted a few, of course), but took my current 80 which I had taken all the way through, got world completion before WvW was taken out, and completed the LS seasons. And yet I still struggle with HoT. In fact, when I got the 80 booster from a few months ago, I used it on my 80, as it would be boring to bring a toon instantly to 80.
You are one person, it isn’t a generalization because most people who I know that are vets dont have much of an issue with hot ajd understand some of it is meant for group content, and I said I suspect which is not an assumption. And I have met allot of new players who are using instant 80s with hardly any experience what so ever.
Using “instant level cap” for any first toon should be highly discouraged in any video game, as it doesn’t teach the player how to play. Especially since it gives some people the mindset that they can skip all of the low-level content. Not all, but I’m sure there are some out there.
Guess that my personal experiences can just be pushed aside just because I don’t fit the two big groups of people. Whatever.
When did I say your personal experience doesnt matter? All im saying is like what you just confirmed is I suspect many are using instant 80s and expecting the content to be all soloable and easy. Hot is meant to be challenging and more group encouraged, it doesnt mean you didnt have a hard time I dont get how your saying that but this is an mmorpg, hence the mmo part where your meant to group with others to get through challenging content, if you dont like those aspects I dont know what to tell you but it doesnt mean its bad design just because you may prefer something else.
Some classes arent as solo friendly in open world in general and will have some more issues, but its nothing new, I have played tons of mmorpgs with solo classes and group classes where you needed groups to progress, this mmorpg is far more forgiving when it comes to that.
If your having such a hard time though have you asked in game about builds? The metabattle.com builds are not meant for open world but you can get ideas from them. What classes are you having allot of issues with?
Only 80s I currently have are an Engi/Scrapper and an Ele/Tempest. However, only the Engi is far enough to actually do the HoT story; my Ele still has to redo (because for some reason I was pushed back to the beginning) of the Dry Top LS. Engineer/Scrapper is a very clunky class, IMO, so that would explain some of my struggle, but he is the only 80 I have right now who is that far in the story. I have one toon of each class but it takes me a long time to level up to 80 (don’t have a lot of free time to play, you see). However, class choice has nothing to do with the struggle I have with navigating even Verdant Brink, which many people claim is easy to explore. I also have to stay in HoT maps in order to level up the HoT-specific masteries, which makes it difficult.
That’s my current situation, since you asked.
Class choice does something to do with it, some classes have better exploration/escape tools. The reason you hear its easy because some classes have an easier time but this also has something to do with builds and gear, so your having a hard time with engineer? Hmmm I cant say I have much experience with them but I do recommend grabbing some of the defensives in scrapper if you have not, have you tried going for more healing from turrets and stuff for yourself? My friend did it recently and made a good difference.
If your using bserker, try maurders gear since it trades off some very slight dps for vitality.
I am currently using Carrion stats (did use Beserkers before) on my armor. Would use Marauders, but I don’t have the gold or mats to make a full set, compounded by the fact I have low game time.
Do you run with a guild? Maybe they can help you achieve this, how much time do you really get? Carrion isnt bad but maybe condi isnt the way to go for this area, your likely going to need to spend sometime researching or asking in the engineer forums, you can also try reddit but it wont hurt to ask other engineers how they got through the content.
I am trying to figure out what “grindy” means in GW2 because being “casual” I don’t feel I have to play for days, months or years to reach certain highlights of content like some Korean based MMOs…. now those are grindy.

(edited by Ryou.2398)
I think we need a battlemage elite spec to trade off some of our dps with a 2handed sword so we have that as an optional playstyle.
In a nutshell a spec that lets you go 2handed sword, with some kind of magical armor buff while trading off some of your crazy ranged dps. This will give us an option for being so squishy not to mention offer an incredibly fun playstyle, I love hybrid melee/magic characters.
If necro can do it so can we.
Feel free to add ideas and get the technical stuff down, I dont have a ton of experience to offer any real substence beyond the looks and names of the abilities and armor.
Maybe there should be a vip option so anet can make more money, its hard for me to believe they make allot of money off the item shop, there isnt that many cosmetics, toys, and etc at once they do change them up, once people spend money on bag slots, bank spaces and etc what else is there to get other then cosmetics?
It isn’t that they need more money. It’s that they are hilariously fragmented for a studio of their size. At any given time they have far more projects under way than they have people to work on them, and for this reason they don’t push out updates for any part of their game fast enough.
More money won’t fix the underlying problem. Management of the studio, as a whole, has too many teams on too many projects with not enough people on any given team. Giving them more money in that environment without more cuts like the unpopular decision to halt legendaries won’t change a thing.
Everybody liked Colin’s smiling face, but he drove Arenanet in to the ground and Mo is trying to pick up his pieces.
Anet built a successful franchise by being realistic about its limitations, and focusing on leveraging existing systems with minimal systemic updates every expansion, and leaning on a core game that was well designed.
Anet damaged that franchise by spending years reinventing the wheel in all of the experimental gameplay, massive systemic updates, and multiple false starts since.
They don’t need more money. They need more agile management and a more realistic view of the limitations of the skilled staff they already employ. A money shaped band-aid will not fix the problems Anet has.
Mo is doing a good job filling Colin’s recently vacated shoes. He’s making logical cuts and actively engaging the player base. That needs to continue with whomever he hires to permanently fill that position.
Hmmm you have a point, I do think they might be in the right direction after all.

Facepalm, its an RPG your suppose to have a sense of progression, this isn’t a phone game with instant gratification and an I win button, this isn’t rude or anything it just seems like sone people actually expect this from games that are very far from that design, games are not meant to cater to just one person and it won’t change just because some people aren’t use to or don’t like the rpg mechanics in an mmorpg.
in fairness, there are way too many replies to bother reading them all
you could edit the first post if you really wanted people to get the gist of what’s been said already
It shouldn’t matter in my first message it doeant say I only want to spam ice, yea I guess you can take it that way but only if your assuming. Common sense should tell me that in picking 3, specs not just one.
Anyways I edited it to make it more clear.

Hi,
I recently got my first level 80 toon, a Human Elementalist, and run double daggers. Love the class and the only thing I wish I had done different is made her a Slyvari. But no big deal there. I also have a level 62 Engineer, which I have mixed feelings playing. The class is cool but I’m not in love per say.
I would like to get a second toon, well I guess a third toon, that I’ll actually level up and play, like my Ele. Which might you suggest. Just getting peoples opinions.
Thanks.
Hmmm well engineers are very versatile, you may like scrapper spec later on, however id ifs thematic and you want alloy of variety like the ele I suggest warrior for all the different viable weapons builds, it may seem like a simple class and it is but it doeant mean it isn’t hard to master, or an elementalist for the complexity and varied ways to play, I hear they have complex/varied rotations.
This topic has been brought up many, many times before.
The leading argument against this is always the financial cost on A-net’s part.
There are thousands of lines of dialogue in-game…think of every story-line variation there is and that there are 10 different character voices. They would have to re-record all of these lines, but also add more with new living story updates, expacs etc.
The best “compromise” is to add a variety of ways to edit the voice (e.g. change pitch, speed etc). This doesn’t require hiring new voice actors, but offers a little bit of variety.
I can live with that, I will say pay for it.
Does anyone think this is something that might happen? I cannot stand how human and sylvari males sound for the most part and would like the option of a more manly voice, I would totally spend money on something like this. Im sure many would want some more options if they want to play a specific race.
(edited by Ryou.2398)
You’re an elementalist, not an Elsa
There is no good “ice” dos build
That’s the issue with new eles, they think they just have to play one element and think they’re 100% utilized
If you want a dps build then you’ll need earth/fire/lightning
You’re meant to cycle all ele elements, not just one and if you think otherwise then don’t play ele.
Facepalm, do people ever read beyond the topic anymore?
So your semi-terrible raid experience consisted of…
You having no raid experience, yet joining a gorseval group
The group taking you anyway
The group saying mean things to no one in particular but still willing to take you with no experience on one of the hardest raid boss fights.
End of story?
This seems like an example of them doing everything right, and going out of their way to accommodate you, yet you come here and complain anyway.
This is why we don’t like pugs fyi.
Just because they took him doesn’t give them a right to treat him or someone else bad for not having any raid experience, that is not how you treat people, if your going to be a jerk about it then don’t take them its that simple, if they have an attitude about it then clearly they didn’t really want to did they?
Therefore they should not have of bothered if it was so bad they are trash talking about someone being new to something. And by the way that very hypocritical, everyone has been new once. I shouldn’t even have to respond to a message like this, its just sad because these things should be common sense.
(edited by Ryou.2398)
What about engineers? Are they not effective on them?
I want a greatsword melee battlemage kind of spec, something that offers a balance of defense and offense so we have the option to do real magic melee like a real battlemage, of course this means less dps for the playstyle for obvious balance reasons.
I checked metabattle and it looked like there was only one highly rated build, if I can id prefer to do kind of my own thing and do well in pvp rather its through other means then just pure dps.
People need to stop being so cheap and help support the game if they love it, yea I get we arent made of money, im certainly not but I give credit where credit is do plus I want anet to continue dont you? Spending some here and there can help allot. Plus if you are really only spending time playing this anyways then your not spending half as much money buying single player games, I barely have time to any single player games anyways since there is allot for me to do in this game right now.

Man all this info for playing condi druid, I may make one myself, I really enjoy those staff particle effects/animations.
In my opinion some racials really have thier uses, the trick is to find one that compliments a weakness in your build/class. Just go here https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Racial_skill and look into them. Also animations are different on each race, I personally found sylvari to have the most fluid and fitting animations for a ranger.
To the OP. You seem to want a build that is using ice themed skills like Ice Shards and actual skills which include a chill condition as your main way of damage dealing? You talk about using three elements which makes me wonder if you are talking about traits or about attunement usage.
Either way, scepter would be your weapon of choice. Which is, sadly, far inferior to the other weapon choices you could use. You will not get any love from people in dungeon, fractals and especially raids with such a build. My best advice would be to play your elementalist to the fullest. That includes proper attunement rotations and swapping depending on what the situation requires (CC, healing, slow effects, etc). It also means using water and ice in way they are meant to be used: to apply regen, slow, heal, etc.
Elementalists are elementalists in the end and not some type of fire or ice mages.Hey iczek,
you can run in your Waterfield (WH 5) and use Water 3 Blast Finisher and Earth 4 after that. You will get two additional Area Heals, Protection and Magnetic Aura from it. You should be full Heal again and also have more sustain for some time.
If you need even more Heal you can start with Water 4 before the combo.
There are more Blast Finishers that can work well like Afterblast (Earth Shoud).Dagger/Warhorn is not that great in breaking Breakbars. You can use Air 4 and Water 4. If you really need to be the one that works at the bar you can use Tornado and skill 3 on CD. But there are other classses that are better in this. We are supposed to deal the highest damage^^
Thanks for the information!
About the break bar, I was concerned others would expect me to greatly contribute to breaking it. It sounds like the only expection for the ele is great dps which I should be able to do with my berserker gear.
Thanks for the tip on using water #5 then #3 followed by earth #4. I’ll put it to use. I’m sure it will be helpful for my party in dungeons.
People do expect you to contribute to taking off a big chunk of the break bar. Tidal Shard (Warhorn Water 4) and Cyclone (Warhorn Air 4) are perfect for it. You will also be able to chill with Frozen Burst (Dagger Water 3) and immobilize with Magnetic Grasp (Dagger Earth 3). You might be required to use Conjure Frost Bow (Utility) which will allow you and another person who picks up the second bow to use Deep Freeze (Frost Bow 5) which is one of the most powerful CC skills in the game.
Honestly, it would be a huge waste for you not to focus on CC with such a long list of powerful skills.
Thank you I will keep this in mind.
To add to what Themistokles has put, learning what your blast combos are and what are water fields can help dramatically with surviving. Using war horn and dagger you can switch from air after an overload to water, press 5 then 3 to create a water field and blast it, switch to fire to continue rotation.
There are also times when you want certain other aspects like invulnerability and projectile mitigation over the support and dps war horn brings. Focus brings this and is in general much better for surviving and you should switch to this when needed. Example being the dredge cart in sorrows embrace path 3.
Don’t be afraid to swap to a different element to use a skill with fresh air, it costs you a lot less than staff to do that.
Yes, this is something I will need to do myself, I want to get some people together and just practice class skill combos.
Trust me you don’t want easy progression you will get bored, it doesn’t matter how casual you are that isn’t rewarding in the end. Are you guys using the lfg tools? Are you asking map chat or guilds to help? People are really really helpful in the game give it a try.

So once I saw my guildie link this I looked up the name and found this, here is the weapon name Kamohoali’i Kotaki.
Here is the legend which was interesting lol.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kamohoali'i_Kotaki
So what other weapons have real life legends behind them?
Q: “Is there a good ice dps build for pve?”
A: Absolutely not. I dare you to join even a level 5 fractal and use straight Water Attunement the entire time, best of luck old chap.OP is a complete joke.
Oh the irony considering you just assumed and didnt even read the replies, I never once said only use water.
I was told guard is really good in pvp when played and used right, you basically use gs/bow, use the gs pull ability and pull them into your trap, and there is some rune that lets you stealth when you use traps as well, one of my guildies swears by that rune on his guard.
Hmmm I dont think bserker is required like other elites but I could be wrong, id say give ele a try, it has plenty of variety.
TY – but I am afraid ele is bit too squishy for me
So you want GS ? let see.
…TY
WAR is no go for me – really dislike elite spec, and played base WAR sooooooo much I simply need something different.
Reaper is my favorite now – tried it a lot now through weekend and it is fun – playing power with GS and Staff (for zerg events).
Druid as I have read has really low pwrsonal DPS – and as I am soloing a lot it is bit bummer (that is why I do not play my MES – which is char I really like otherwise)
Guard – yeah no speed no chance in my case.
Have not tried Herald yet – do not have empty slotbut overall combination of resource pool & recast timers does not appeal me much….
Guard is actually decent greatsword speed, pair it up with the bow and you can have allot of fun, although they will require you to level the elite spec, I recommend getting that first point in the elite and try it again, you can easily pull enemies and people into your bow traps with your greatsword pull ability, its allot of fun.
Warrior greatsword is awesome, have you tried it on asura lol? Also do you feel you have to use the elite spec?
Ryou, the trouble is… if you unlocked other legends, you don’t have the hero points to unlock shiro and / or mallyx at level 8-10. and there is no indication beforehand that those are the underwater legends. the default heal upon character creation is Jallis Ironhammer’s heal, which cannot be used underwater because Jallis cannot be slotted underwater.
Well at those levels I didn’t have any issues underwater, in fact no one should, also shirt does have a great heal don’t slot for hall first and go for shiro I don’t see how that’s a problem.
The guy did not invest in the same kitten as you did when your Revenant was between lvls 8 & 10. He has no Shiro, no Malyx and most likely no hero points to unlock them.
Ok, but if he doesnt have hero points at that level niether do other classes, he was talking about the experience at those levels, my point is just invest in shiro early as possible and problem solved…
Also calm down, I wasnt being rude, but you clearly are for no reason or understood what they guy was trying to say.

Thanks for the tips guys, it was really getting awkard switching with f keys. I swear elementalist attunment switching reminds me of bard twisting from everquest 1 lol, as much as I loved my bard it is bad for your hands, however this isnt half as bad as the bard in eq1 so I love it.

I didnt say it was wow, but how can you not see the effects on ice? You must not use it at all apparently, Ice has cc, it has vulnarability and a few other tools against mobs, what do you mean it doesnt do similar things as in other games? What do you think freezing does? And again who said you cannot make a hybrid of using those ice abilities with others for dps? Just because you have a problem with it doesnt make it true.
And I never meant pure dps, if that wasnt clear then im sorry im perfectly aware that ice has things like cc support mixed with some dps, but I think this is a mentality thing, allot of my guard abilities have dps/support abilities but they are still used in many builds for dps regardless.
Actually ive heard quite a few complaints that people dont know how to use cc very well in this game when it has masssive potential cc is a support style rather you like it or not.
The problem is that even with the strongest possible water/ice build you’d be so low on dps that you’d need 5 water/ice eles to match a single staff-fire ele or lightning dagger ele. And the cc potential? That’s only a problem if you camp a single element and refuse to ever switch. A good ele uses fire or air for dps and switches to other elements when needed for cc, support or utility.
You can create an ice dps build and you can roleplay an ice mage with it. But don’t expect anything near the dps of a meta build. The water section only has a few skills that can compete in terms of dps, and their cooldowns are too long to create a rotation.
I see, I think we where getting communications crossed, I may find some potential in ice dps in some kind of mode though, but I get what your saying now. I guess ill be happy as long as I get to use it but your right about using all 4 elements, I really enjoy switching attunments.
Also on the cooldowns, even with the trait to lower water cooldowns is it that bad?
“Is there a good ice dps build for pve?”
Simple: NO
Water or like you call it, Ice. Is not supposed to be the DPS Element. Staff = Fire, Dagger = Air, Scepter = Fire/Air
What you try to build is a theme build. I understand that, but in Dungeons, Fractals and Raids you are just giving your team a Handicap. For Roleplay or stuff like that it could be fun. But if you really want to play the three named parts of PvE, be preparred to get flamed a lot. Elementalists have there Role and that is for most parts high DPS. You can adapt to all hitboxes and can play all weapons, aslong you use them right. If you try to be something that you are not supposed to be, people will get mad at you. And you cant blame them for that. We all are playing for Success and nobody wants to get handicaped.Ice isn’t for roleplay, it has cc and dps, I’ve played plenty of rpgs with these uses, and if you read jy other replies you would see I said nothing about only using ice, also yes you can blame them if you aren’t joining meta groups, plenty of people use their own builds, that is why we have an lf g tool to type stuff out for people to see.
This is GW2. Unlike WoW and TES Ice gives you no cc and dps! What I made for you is a role play build…because the traits you want on ice do not exist in this game for ice. If you looked closer to the build I made you, you would have seen that all you got is a support build with 1 weapon (ignoring the 1 you can conjure) and themed utilities! (outside of ice bow most of those utilities are actualy good).
So let’s get you straight now…Ice is water in solidified form and this game preceives Ice as a subset of water…therefore all ice/water abilities IN THIS GAME takes AWAY FROM YOUR dps so you can support your teams with mostly heals and boons.
If you want to do dps and cc as an elementalist…then the combos you need to be looking at are fire+earth IN THIS GAME!
I didnt say it was wow, but how can you not see the effects on ice? Scepter main hand has the most ice themed abilities. For the off hand weapon I would recomend dagger as it has more helpfull ice themed abilities than focus. You don’t need condition damage for this.
If you are willing to sacrifice a utility slot however Ice Bow is your best source for ice themed abilities, condition damage and healing.
Now go make a build based around scepters or Ice Bow or both. Please bare in mind that this is not wow and the element of your attacks will never register…so whatever build you make…it will be solely for role play and would most likely be subpar….this is the best Ice Mage build I can devise.

Thanks allot, I hope it is viable!
If you’re planning to do dungeons/fractals/raids while sticking to only one attunement I wish you protection from the flames of your party members.
Well I wouldn’t focus on only one attunement I’m thinkinf maybe with air and earth or something.
Personally though, I think ice and water attunement as a whole leans on the weaker side of Ele builds unless you’re specifically talking about support…support read there as HEALING!
Consider that if you like earth and rock/sand skills, you’re looking toward several earth aspects:
-Tanking/taking hits/reflecting projectiles
-Applying cripple/bleed/immobilize which can be very devastating to some builds
-Many combos via projectile/blasts
-Control kind of rolls into cripple/immobilize but this is also a strong aspect alone
-Strong tanking weapons include Focus but not much on the condition side.Aspects of fire include:
-Damage and burning
-Fire combo fields and might
-Some minor utility like leaps/evades/blinds
-Fire’s tricks are so universal, you pretty much can’t go wrong using any of the weapons except maybe Focus if you want to specialize in these.Aspects of air are a tad redundant or niche:
-Typically focuses on burst damage with little to no condition damage
-Range and speed utility, usually a quirk but can be used to great effect if used right
-Fury/crits and Swiftness
-Usually also some CC in there too
-Air’s quirkiness requires special attention making it possible to be very good or just redundant damage that fire can also accomplish better which is why all the weapons can be great except maybe less so for staffAs for water:
-Less damage and little to no condition damage, just vulnerability
-Hp recovery and regen
-Chill and sometimes rarely CC
-If you build for healing, you can heal a lot. For anything else other than tanking (which needs to work in conjunction with earth), they all do it better.Basically, what I’m saying is that Water does healing really good but is penalized in every other aspect because of that healing. I personally wouldn’t object to some of the healing being dialed back for ele to build up other aspects like adding more CC and maybe giving it more tanking front via blocks and such. Or maybe push its damage by introducing Retaliation into the water line.
But that all said, I honestly don’t think there is a good ice dps set-up outside of just conjure weapons…
Hmmm well I really like the cc effects of ice mixed with dps, as long as I can use some in my rotation with air or something ill be happy I think. Thanks for the info.
I picked human, the summon one.
Pretty much, yeah.
I see, yea people tend to never say its pvp in the forums and act like its the only mode in the game.
Wow, im new to visiting these elementalist forums, and looking into an ele before I made it everyone swears its versatile and has allot of build diversity, yet people are saying otherwise here, I havent experienced this myself yet if its really true. But I dont get why so many in game and other forums claim this if there are so many issues.
In retrospect, the elementalist has a place in all game modes and has uses for almost all of its weapons. I have been playing ele for over 3 years so I would like to say I have a deep understanding of the class as far as pvp and wvw go. That being said, there is only 1 build viable in pvp and thats most likely where all the flaming comes from. Just a lack of diversity in the same game modes. This is a problem with every class. Everyone that doesn’t play ele will say we are op and versatile, but everyone who mains the class will say we are being limited by our lack of good traits and utilities. Its more likely frustration of anet not touching our utilities since launch and pretty much ruining the game to make as much cash as possible.
So what your saying only in pvp the builds are limited?

I never stated someone would not do something. In fact, I said they have been doing things this whole time, even if they aren’t posting in the forum.
Sure whatever you say.
:)
My first char was Mesmer – at the start of GW2 actually… got it to 80 and still have a sweet spot for it.
Then there was WAR – played it a LOT. Unfortunately tried the Berserker elite and hated it…
Third 80 is Necro – hated it in vanilla, but like a Reaper – much better shroud.
Forth is Engi – hate kits. Do not want to play it.
Rest are lower level toons
Hmmm I dont think bserker is required like other elites but I could be wrong, id say give ele a try, it has plenty of variety.
Would help if we knew what you played, but I am kind of in the same boat, I dont like forced meta classes either, I love my ele because it has allot of builds that are in meta so they get more choices. I think engineers and warriors do as well. So maybe roll an ele, im considering rolling a warrior still as my alt.
Ice is my favorite element and ive been wondering about builds for ice, open world, dungeons, fractals and maybe even raids. Any experience with this? Thank you.
There’s not ice element. There’s water element aka water magic. Ice is just an extension of it. Back at GW1 we also had water magic but it wasn’t weak in terms of dealing damage. But back at GW1 you could build a dps water ele…you can’t do such beautiful thing here. Although the devs kept some cool capabilities of water magic like applying vulnerability and chill, they decided to transform the elementalist in a “jack-of-all-trades”, which ultimately failed.
sceptor/focus was mostly ice dps though. I wouldnt call it a simple extension to water even staff and daggers have some ice dps as well, thats like saying earth cant do good condi dps because it has defensive stuff.
Geez no you didn’t get the point. There’s no such thing as ice damage. There are only two kinds of damage: Damage Per Second (DPS) aka raw damage and Damage Over Time (DoT) aka condition damage. Just because Ice Spike does damage it doesn’t mean it’s ice damage. In scepter you have Water Trident, it doesn’t do considerable damage but it does do damage, so is it water damage?
Right now there’s nothing like a reliable water dps build, this is not GW1.
So? I asked about a build that uses the ice abilities for dps it shouldnt matter if dps comes from ice or not, thanks I guess.
