Then Arenanet made them drop from new content and my investment was ruined. Great job guys.
My advice is to never invest in anything ever. Someone will change the rules and leave you with nothing.
This is why a wise trader has a wide portfolio, in order to spread risk. It happens in real life too; disaster, unexpected problems etc. can all serve to kill an investment dead.
As the saying goes don’t put your eggs all in one basket

The first one has also been there a very long time (Verifiably at least 6 months, probably from the beginning)

I don’t doubt it’s real; I know at least 1 person with over 1,000g and they missed out on the early opportunities (the precursor rush, the karka, halloween skins)

There’s already a lot of meta events people don’t bother attending; for example the ogre camp battle in Fields of Ruin gives you a daily bonus chest

You’re missing my point. Look at a Warrior – does he do less damage because he doesn’t run toughness or a specific trait?
Not sure a warrior is a fair comparison; what about rangers? – A large portion of their damage is handled through their class mechanic in the form of a pet, and their pet also suffers many of the problems that our phantasms suffer (Worse in fact, if a ranger’s pet dies it’s out the fight for a full minute. A clone can be replaced in seconds)

A suggestion I’ve raised many times before is a token system as seen in many other MMO’s (STO, Allods, Neverwinter)
In addition to a chance of getting the desired drops, you also get tokens which can be traded in for the same items (or another unusual and desirable skin) – so even if you don’t get lucky, eventually you’ll get enough tokens to obtain the desired item; or at the very least some seriously cool consolation prizes.
This actually worked IMO, because in Allods and STO I did buy chests now and then, because I knew that even if I was unlucky, I wouldn’t need to buy more than X number of chests to receive the item anyway. GW2 provides no such cap, potentially you could buy close to infinite chests and NEVER get the item if you had insanely bad luck.

Fun open-field fights today in DB BL with TC. You guys have my respect. Anyone who says TC doesn’t rush out to meet you in open field is BSing.
Thanks, our little insurgency in the DB-BL’s been great fun this week all ‘round, whether holding forts against a relentless tide of militia or big open battles. I’m always happier with my feet on the ground rather than stood on a wall or fighting doors

In the spirit of OP’s original intentions; no I don’t see a problem with it.
Firstly the title is ridiculously easy to get, and will become more so once the remaining handful of achievements become unlocked; the title only really serves as a badge to say “I was here”, which is good IMO, it means everyone gets a little something for attending.
Secondly, there are some players out there with the hand-eye co-ordination of a lazy-eyed goldfish yet are a little obsessive about completion and I wouldn’t begrudge them the chance to get the extra sample.
Finally, I personally completed the jumping puzzle legitly (I quite enjoy JP’s), and being a mesmer I ported some folks up there while I was around (Didn’t ask nor recieve any tips), I often send portals to people who want to shortcut JP’s – I enjoy JP’s and I know some people hate them, so it’s mutually useful and I’m not one to say “If you can’t do it legit you don’t deserve to complete it”; they’ve usually given it a good try first

Have a look at the item on the buy page, and see how your price compares to the current supply; if your item is buried under lots of cheaper items then it may well be it’ll never sell.
You can also check the trade site to get a feel for rate of supply/demand to work out the odds of it being sold (Are people buying them – or is supply rising steadily over time)

Since fully understanding the usefulness of blink and watching Osicat’s videos I’ve had a lot more luck at stopping people fleeing; blinking forward suddenly and hitting them with an appropriate skill (iZerker for cripple, Magic Bullet for Stun, etc), and popping my heal to proc rune of air 6
Since I actually favour greatsword for my non-staff option (And thus take long range manipulation) this usually gets me close enough that if they persist in trying to flee all they’ll do is save their pretty face as I blast them in the back.

On the upshot we can use this as an argument against mesmer’s being OP
Player 1: “Hermagerd I always die to mesmers”
Mesmer: “Did you try running away?”
Garnished Toast
So for Ranger, Mesmer and Thief, all this 3 class can have build with main 1h sword for PvE and WvW? I’m playing Thief now, it’s fun but let’s se how long it will be fun. Can Mesmers be a bit more tanky than Thief’s?
I can’t speak for thieves as I havn’t played one to any significant level.
Rangers can certainly mainhand swords for PvE quite effectively (it’s one of their best DPS options in fact), and I’ve seen them used in WvW though havn’t tried it myself.
Mesmer’s can certainly mainhand swords in PvE and WvW, being one of their best DPS weapons, and certainly their best mainhand option in the majority of situations. They are also drastically more tanky than thieves having access to a huge number of boons, reactive defences (like chaos armour), distortions and a larger hitpoint pool.
If you havn’t researched it before take a look at some videos
Garnished Toast
Rangers can mainhand one handed swords very well, it’s one of their better DPS options, and rangers are actually pretty darn tanky.
HOWEVER going by what you say, I think you may have overlooked mesmers.
You like casters like ele, but you like martial weapons and swords but prefer a faster playstyle than guardian and you like playing evasively. Sounds to me like Mesmer fits the bill:
- Fast playstyle with lots of magical combos and buffs/debuffs
- Favour fighting in close quarters
- Uses martial weapons despite being a caster (ie. swords)
- Huge array of evasion options and handful of stealths
- Relatively robust, with medium-hitpoint scaling.

The “unique” designation on an item isn’t unique to GW2
Bind on equip, bind on acquire, soul bound, account bound – these are hand-me down terms from mainstream MMOs, and people don’t (usually) claim ignorance of them. “Unique” is in exactly the same boat.
The reality isn’t that people don’t understand the term; it’s because unique items are very unusual in GW2 so people don’t tend to read the stats on the items THAT closely then when they find they can’t equip the item, they look closer and suddenly: Rage

Undercutting is fine IRL where there isn’t perfect information. Here the trading post gives perfect information about what everyone’s price is. That’s not realistic at all.
But are we trying to emulate real life? – GW2’s TP is a thing in it’s own right
Garnished Toast
That has got to get the reward for the lamest ending to a long event in gaming history.

It’s not called greed, or impatience. It’s called business.
Profit is like kinetic energy; both it’s magnitude AND it’s velocity is important. An item that fetches a 10% better margin, but sits on the shelf for twice as long is overall less productive than selling fast and cheap.
It’s not ignorance or stupidity – for many traders whether to undercut or whether to set the price is a calculated decision based on their experience of the market, their spreadsheets and graphs.
Garnished Toast
Kudos for helping out; is it seriously still broken? (I gave up looking) – It’s been this way for over 2 weeks now.

I’d also point out that if the entire game was designed to cater only to the lowest common denominator people’d get very bored, very quickly and move onto games that are more engaging.
As it is anet has gone out their way to ensure you can get full completion several different ways in case one or more option is outside of you abilities or time constraints,
Garnished Toast
I’m not even sure if all of you are just trolling or genuinely just became aware of this.
Well, I’ve only just become aware of it and posted what I’d discovered. I would be surprised if I was the first to have noticed it however; there’s a hell of a lot of mesmers out there.
Garnished Toast
Banhammers incoming.
Meh. I’d like clarification from a dev first
General consensus is that clones don’t benefit from runes, but my discovery indicates that clones can benefit from runes; the reason they don’t normally is because the clones look at the reference version of the armour, not the actual version the user is wearing – NOT because they have runes disabled on them.
There’s nothing in the literature that formally says that clones shouldn’t benefit from runes, indeed the lack of benefiting from runes is often listed as a known bug.
If clones are delibratly not meant to benefit (And the reliance on the base armour reference is just a sloppy coding workaround to ensure that instead of actually disabling runes on clones) and this is considered an exploit then they only need say and I’ll remove the post. Otherwise this is just another workaround to mesmer’s many, many bugs.

It’s true, I hit a mesmer’s phantasms who was running Rune of the Air, I got hit for 4k just hitting the phantasm Q.Q
That seems unlikely, or least if it did happen it must be for another reason. There are no stock light armour sets that have runes of air on them far as I can tell.
There are some other situations that can cause you to get hit by the lightning effect, not least sigils of air.
Garnished Toast
To sum this up simply, they are all canon Sues – just like Gandalf.
The player is to Rurik or Trehearne, what Aragon was to Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. Aragon is one of the most important characters in the entire story, yet Gandalf is the guy who gets center stage in all the big climactic scenes and gets all the credit.
Logan is something else. I don’t actually dislike Logan as a character, just as a character in a shared universe I feel he’s a spineless wimp. But he’s not a badly written character

I’ve observed a strange bug that I think I’ve figured out; and it has some odd implications that maybe some wiser minds than mine can figure out how to utilise
It’s well known that your armour runes do NOT normally apply to phantasms and stuff, I mean if you’re wearing 6 runes of air, you’ll never have a phantasm zap an attacker with it.
However
Recently I bought khilbron’s armour set (Rabid gear), by default it comes with 6 runes of the lich which creates a minion on hit at random. But I replaced the runes with a set of my own to suit my needs; since then however, I keep getting bone minions popping up, it took me a while to figure out but I realised that the minions are spawning when my illusions are attacking
On closer inspection, it appears that my illusions are receiving the set bonuses for the lich runes that come in the default version of the armour! (Even more interestingly, the cooldown appears to be linked to the illusion, as I’ve seen minions spawn repeatedly in quick succession, despite the 60s cd)
More than likely a bug rather than intended feature, but if using stock armour sets like khilbrons can confer bonuses to illusions, then some interesting possibilities arise… it also makes me wonder whether stock weapons that come fitted with runes might also proc effects on clones

Clearly the OP has never actually played the class from his description since you’d need 2 or 3 separate builds to achieve the alleged results :/
I’m surprised he didn’t give an honourable mention to time-warped moa spam while mass invised.

The charr tend to share skins too, it’s not unique to Asura.
The why is no doubt due to the fact the sylvari/norn/humans all have breasts, while the charr and asura do not (At least, if they do they’re small and well hidden). Creating a whole new set of art assets for a single gender of just two (of the least played) races doesn’t seem like a wise investment of resources.

Every subscription based MMO was overcharging.
No kidding. Blizzard makes more money than some small European countries! – You do NOT need that kind’ve money to run an MMO; your shareholder obviously will appreciate it, and there’s nothing wrong with making money.
But if you’re paying those kind’ve subs you’re being grossly ripped off – GW2’s monetisation uses a very different model, but it seems to be working.

Botters more often arn’t just players trying to avoid farming, but organised groups who run bot “farms” with dozens of separate AI controlled characters perpetually farming loot.
In turn these groups then sell gold via the black market such as gold selling websites, undercutting arenanet’s business model and damaging the economy by flooding it with materials and items. Overall, bots are bad news for everyone

You don’t know what my skill level is in this aspect so I don’t know how you can say that I “don’t display the prodigious skill” of other players. .
You’re losing consistently.
That tells me that at the very least your skills are “average” – in any given mix of people you’re not coming out top. If you think it’s possible to be skillful, yet lose every match you need a reality check.

As long as people like you OP exist, who detest RNG, yet buy the boxes anyway – all of us will have to suffer through RNG. It’s that simple I’m afraid.

In beta, you had only the “get hit by projectile then send it back later” part. It was crappy, so they added a blocK/reflect after the catch. They didn’t change the description so it’s misleading, but the skill in itself isn’t that bad. Unlike iLeap, which is truly broken
Try wording a tooltip for the new version, it doesn’t make sense for a skill to work that way :P
Mimic: Manipulation – Receive full damage from next projectile attack. After absorbing a projectile, block all incoming attacks. If no projectile is absorbed, skill does nothing. (Chains to echo)

Strategy my friend.
Karka are extremely vulnerable to reflected attacks – mesmer, guardian, warrior(?), ranger – are well set in that department, to a lesser extent engineer and elementalist.
Veteran karka (as in, the adults) have never been intended as solo fodder. I mean, look at the size of those things. Baby karka are a cakewalk once you learn to recognise their telegraphs; veteran babies are always a challenge but are soloable with experience.
Remember how when GW2 launched Ettins probably flattened you til you understood their telegraphs? – Or how people complained them mobs in Orr are overpowered? – Same applies here. New enemies, new situations, new telegraphs to learn.
I spent a fair while exploring Southsun by myself after Lost Shores and karka are very much soloable once you practice and understand the fights; just like every other mob in the game.
Few tips:
- If you don’t immediately close to melee, the babies will open with their acid spray attack. You must dodge or reflect it as it’ll do huge damage, but reflected it can knock off ~60% the babies health.
- If the adult karka use their acid spray it’ll leave big green patches on the floor; stay out of these as they will melt your face.
- Adults can evade by jumping and rolling, if you see them hop up, dodge out the way quick.
- Veteran babies can bullrush like arisen abominations; knocking over anything in their path. Having skills to cloak or stunbreak can be useful for avoiding being jumped while on the floor.
- it’s preferable to avoid fighting in melee, their melee attacks are less predictable than their acid spray.
- Adult karka tend to favour ranged attacks, so attacking in melee or ranged is equally valid provided you stay aware of the acid pools on the floor

Might be wrong about precursors. Sellers could fear anothet karka chest and the fear could lead them to panic sell.
Really curious how it will turn out.
In otherwords, business as usual – every living story update everyone cringes that there’ll be a repeat of “the karka chests” and throw the economy a gigantic spinball; but with great change comes great opportunity

As long as people are exploring the pants off Southsun the flow of mithril and orichalcum will continue.

I don’t like PvP (in fact I hate it), it is frustrating and relies on luck rather than skill. This is not my play style, and I’m being forced into it to get the reward I want.
On the contrary, it absolutely IS a display of skill, you have to prove you are the better crab-grabber (crabber), instead of merely jumping through some hoops with dumb-as-a-post AI.
Unfortunately you (like me) don’t display the prodigious skill of some of the other players which makes it rather frustrating trying to get the achievement unlocked…
…of course an achievement isn’t really an achievement if it’s easy

Wildstar can’t come soon enough…
In GW2, ArenaNet are the developers but the overall cash shop and monetisation strategy is handled by NCSoft.
Wildstar is an NCSoft game too… expect more of the same

As you reach busier, more frantic environments such as Orr you’ll find it nearly impossible to tag mobs with a scepter. That’s not to say you shouldn’t use scepter if you find it fun and practical; PvE is pretty easy and gives a lot of freedom in how you engage with it.
Just your original post won’t ring true for you later on when you’re not only trying defeat monsters, but competing with other classes who are capable of killing an enemy in less than the time it takes for your scepter projectile to reach it.
Garnished Toast
Check your inventory. You’ll find the detector is an inventory item you can click to “use”, you don’t need to go back to her every time you want re-equip it.

I was rather surprised too when I mouse-overed the little chest icon and it basically told me EXACTLY what was going on in Southsun right there and then, before I even had time to talk to any NPCs and figure out the plot for myself.
Garnished Toast
I’ve never had an exotic from an end chest in ANY event, dungeon or world boss and I’ve been playing since BWE3. Yet I have a friendly who gets annoyed if he doesn’t get at least 2 rares from a world boss (he usually does); and I’ve seen him get 2 exotics once
Something is definitely screwy with how loot is calculated.
Garnished Toast
I’m a little upset there were no changes, but then again unlike the other profs I play I do not see any bugs with Mesmer shrugs
PS: scepter auto isn’t a -bug- it was a nerf from beta and the text wasn’t changed to reflect it.
There’s quite a few in there.
Mimic is all kinds of messed up; failing to block the first hit yet once it kicks in it blocks all attacks, even melee attacks – but only if a projectile initiates it. Zerker is prone to missing it’s target entirely, many clones (most noticably Illusory Leap) tend to fail entirely if there is any kind of obstruction on the ground.
Then there’s numerous inconsistencies between how phantasms/clones relate to the caster’s stats, often ignoring things like condition duration or boon duration bonuses the user may have
Garnished Toast
I’d still be interested to hear from whatever member of staff is responsible for marketing as to whether RNG is THAT much more profitable than simply selling us the skins. And whether the increase in profit is worth the damage to consumer relations*
And let’s face it, it logically must cause some damage, as you have:
+ People who are happy to gamble as much money as is necessary
- People who want the skins, but can’t buy them, and refuse to gamble.
- People who spend money but then don’t get the skin
The latter two groups will no doubt feel frustrated, and frustration makes people less likely to continue playing in the long run.
Garnished Toast
At this stage I don’t get why they don’t just rip out phantasmal berserker entirely and replace it with a new skill that works.

Mesmer:
No changes
At first I was like, “Woot” finally a patch with no nerfs; but then I looked more closely at the other classes patch notes, and noticed there had been no nerfs or buffs this patch; just fixes for all the other classes skills.
…and mesmer recieved none. So actually our apparent nerf dodge is just a stealth kick in the shin; the six knows mesmer needs fixes
Oh well, here’s to next patch xD
And seriously. Mesmer’s NEED fixes. One of my friends just started playing mezzie, and I keep having to explain “yeah I know what the tooltip says but, believe me thats not what the skill really does… yes I know it’s been broken like that since you tried mezzie in BWE3”, it doesn’t reflect well on the devs.
