I think a damage buff to Backstab and Larcenous Strike would be a good start to put the power thief build into a better spot.
Increase the front damage to 2.4 coef and the backstab to 4.8. Also, revert Mug back so it can crit. Revert CnD and Dancing Dagger damage to what it was at release.
This won’t address the sustain issue but it will address the 1v1 issue. It also bring back D/D.
CiS would also need to be moved to master tier, that would go a long way to fixing d/d.
This really needs to happen it’s bad enough that SE only clears damaging conditions and all that was lost after June 23 but CiS really has to come back to master tier or CnD gets baseline blind.

It’s too weak from not being able to clear a simple blind with SE,passing through weak bleeds and CnD and ending having to choose between CiS and SREj p/d has been gutted. Add reveals and boost from other classes you got yourself a very weak set similar to d/d. Venom share seems to have a less terrible impact it requires good coordination I would recommend that but it’s situational.

I personally feel like a lot of the thieves problems are the result of the people that play them. They refuse to use them in the way they are strong right now. Like half the matches I have a thief on my team they go to far point and die to start. I know its counter intuitive by thieves are not a strong 1v1 class. They arent really strong in bigger fights either like 3v3 or great too much cleave and random aoe. Decap and +1.

- Or the RNG will change from 1/4 chance to 1/5 chance thx to the extra group.Typical for thiefs.
It would only get nerfed if you have an elite spec equipped if they are kind enough to implement that technically.

So I’m new to the game and literally just rolled a Thief like 2 days ago so I’m woefully ignorant but …
what happened exactly? So far I’m loving the Thief but … now you guys are making me worried lol
The Daredevil is really fun to play actually. And contrary to what’s written, I often ended up in situations where, a whole groupe got wiped out and I was the only survivor reviving the downed ones, while still remaining more than relevant on the offensive.
The elite spec will require you to remain on your toe and be active. No auto-pilote. On the other hand, it rewards you by giving you the tools to always react.
It’s a class that doesn’t rely on passive skils/trait at all.you didn’t touch pvp yet did you?
Can I remind that anything “works” in PvE? Oops..

Considering “bruiser” specs deal as much damage as my zerker speced thief while having about 4 times as much survivability… yeah, I’d say screw thief.
This. The thief class is just totally kitten tier now. Drd or not.
This is what happens when you have a dev in charge of that that doesn’t have a clue what the class needs.
Not only do the Dev’s in charge of thief not know what thief needs, they also seem to actively ignore the thousands of good suggestions that come from thief players themselves.
Sure, a lot of player suggest silly changes that are either insanely UP or OP, but there have been tons of well designed changes suggested on these forums that, at a minimum, would be a great place to start when trying to fix thieves problems. But as far as the dev’s are concerned, thieves don’t have any problems. That’s why it was totally fair to gut acrobatics, tweak the missing parts, then sell it back to us in a separate trait line.
I’m absolutely ecstatic I got my money back for HoT before it was too late. I’m genuinely sorry for any of you who didn’t.
This is so true. It is very disappointing that they ask for feedback but they implement something worthless. I feel bad for the players who spent tons of time drafting feedback and developers couldn’t careless.
Tip of the day. Don’t bother spending your time creating feedback for theif class.

Just to give you some perspective, I felt the same way you do nearly a year and a half ago. Stop giving them chances, they are endlessly squandered. If you can get a refund for HoT, do so immediately. You can always buy it again if they ever come to their senses and fix thieves issues, and the game just isn’t worth playing in its current state. Make your voice heard with your wallet.
I know I wasn’t around since beta or launch nor did I expect to main thief when I started so my hope are less realistic than most. I didn’t buy HoT I’ve grown attached to only PvP and I didn’t like the future of WvW roaming. I have no issues vs elite specs on my necro my main PvP class so I’m fine without HoT and I’m no fan of DD I miss d/d and p/d. I guess my hope remains because I’ve seen such a turn of events for necro just within HoT announcement and now it’s been mostly justified blessings. Part of me believes this could happen for thief but if not soon it will be too late.
@Showbiz Forgot who the orignal wise player was but “thief was stronger last 1.5 years than it is now but at least it is stronger now than it will be in the next 1.5 years” or something like that.

Revenants, scrappers and reapers top 3. Followed by guardian, mesmer, warrior, ele, thief and at the bottom you have the ranger. With the same broken core mechanics.
A gutted elite spec that brings almost nothing. We got some cool pets tho. Guess its too strong when the pet actually does some damage.The only elite spec that brings nothing is daredevil. 1 additional dodge.
DD’s are so funny especially condi ones seeing a Death Blossom animation before stomping one is priceless.

Now which of these are meta exactly and every single one has a longer cooldown than a block and they have 2.You forgot Wail of Doom, I’m a bunker MM necro for now blocks have not proven to be an issue for me guard,scrapper,rev etc and I have poison hell just d/wh and staff handles blocks fine enough. If you want to stick to meta after a fresh patch that is your choice it doesn’t even have to interrupt just applying poison or unblockable damage will do the trick. You could also just dps him I have seen it happen.
I have a guard crying on thief forum about a possible tripwire and staff combo owning him it’s not meta but he finds it ridiculous. If it really becomes too much of an issue they have their more common patches to nerf it.
I will guarantee you none of those skill will become meta and as I said 2 blocks per 20, shortest is 25 on Signet of Might but that requires Warrior to give up his extremely important utilities. Thief traps are some of the worst skills is the game and you have people crying about dying to them in WvW in permastealth in Thief forums.
On necro d/wh and staff has always been meta but anyway yes there is possible need for a nerf I doubt it will happen on first post HoT patch. People expected Trapper Runes to overthrow PvP lol.

“They are all terrible” because I’ve 1v1’d and 1v2’d and even 1v3’d many more things with Viper than with any other build I’ve ever used… Only thing I die to is signet necro if I’m not careful. I spent almost all of yesterday using Viper.
I suppose I could note that Scrapper basically gives 500 toughness and there’s a lot of healing on the build even without any healing power stat.
You mentioned scrapper….your argument is invalid try it regularly on base engi. We are still fresh patch as well I can 1v2 burn guards on my necro, solo and kill a reaper/chrono some people take a while to learn. If you can truly 1v3 equally skilled foes enjoy it while it lasts.

Maybe next patch. The new condition amulets are all terrible no shaman or anything carrying vitality the only good one was minstrel’s and it’s tank oriented.

This is a clear example of how someone who doesn’t understand thief mechanics (and their weaknesses), loses to a thief, then instead of educating himself a bit, comes to the forums and cries for a nerf. It is the exact reason why thief is in the sorry position that it has been in for the past while. He even used the usual, “I have a thief, therefore if I ever lose to one, it must be because they are op” explanation. And worst of all, the devs actually listen to this drivel.

Funny DD is better at running away than base thief when it was advertised as a sustain line. You are still squishy you just say bye faster. I laugh out loud every time I see a ballerina thief they die even in 2v1 lol.

Axe 3 needs a buff. This community wants a blast finisher.
Right now, Spiteful Spirit is kind of a filler trait.

I seem to recall hearing some dev chatter about 4s revealed in PvP potentially being unnecessary these days, but I can’t remember from who.
To be fair it was always unnecessary, but if they revert it I might actually play p/d in pvp again. with 4s revealed the rotation timing is way too weird to play right without having to constantly eyeball revealed.
With 3s it’s sneak attack>3 autos>revealed over
With 4s it’s more like sneak attack>3 autos>cancel your auto with a stealth like halfway after the last one but before the next one
It totally screwed up the internal timing and I never played it in sPvp again, despite it being probably my favorite pvp build.
CiS not in master tier is killing OH dagger.

It’s still weak even in flashing DS moments due to ICD. I understand it became a corrupt skill but it’s a GM competing next to Signet of Suffering and boons are even more rampaging now. I’ll try not mention the state of axe but this trait need effiency improvements.
First remove the ICD it’s limiting fluidity and an unreal OPness, make it trigger on exit and entrance simply to not have to buff the axe skill which I’m avoiding to mention much or add an on hit effect that applies cripple in AoE similar-ish to Weakening Shroud. You could even add additional direct and condition damage to crippled foes.

I’m not complaining I lost, I’m pointing out that being able to do vast amounts of damage through blocks is ridiculous.
We don’t whine as you describe it if you would go as far as to say that I believe you have way too much acceptance and forgiveness on their way of balancing thief and the reason behind it. I would call it a reflex you receive what you gave out it’s not spontaneous toxicity.
To your second paragraph you are underestimating GW2 sustain, there is more than blocks and thief doesn’t excell at breaking them wait a couple weeks for things to settle down.

Scrapper runes, weakening strikes, and dash will give 27% damage reduction plus fumble for 77% reduction every other attack. Steal some protection and you will be insanely hard to kill. 100% reduction on fumbles and 60% on all other attacks. This could actually be a decent bunker if you can cleanse conditions well enough.
Yeah its pretty crazy the amount of damage you can mitigate on Daredevil

I wonder if it triggers on Trapper’s Respite…that would be really cool.
No reason it shouldn’t. It fits perfectly with Wanderer stats and trying to gather all the boon duration possible. You don’t get the + 45% might duration from Strength or Aristocracy, but an instant 11 Might (or 21 in the case of Shadow Pursuit) for 8+ seconds is amazing. A build like this could be nasty with all that easy might access. You should expect around 2250 power, around 22145 health, 2589 armor, and 67.33% boon duration. That makes each Trap grant 11 or 21 might for 13.25 seconds with 5 stacks lasting over 16.5 seconds. You could also replace the Bountiful Sharpening Stone for Furious Maintenance Oil to maintain 50% boon duration and get 176% crit damage and an extra 1k health.
And where do you intend to take this build??

That minstrel’s amulet omg that amulet I love it!!! Elite specs are not bothering me so apart from what was already to complain about it’s good so far. Only bother is that I am not getting Courtyard often.
It will take a couple weeks for a new meta to settle in and bugs to be fixed. If I have to rant the new condition amulets are terrible not even shaman or ones carrying vitality just terrible.
