I played reaper for a little bit with Spectral Mastery instead of Vital Persistance. It was only viable because I could get Life Force so kitten quick with triple Spectrals, but it was definitely viable.
Still stuck in Soul Reaping though and overall spectral skills including Lich are meh except S.Armor which you get two of making it look better than it actually is. The dependency on the unique line happens with every class and with elite specs coming it doesn’t offer expected diversity.

It’s been meta for about 1.5 after release after that it was mostly SB#5.

I don’t think merging EA with DF will ever happen because EA is too good to be a minor.
I agree on the whole idea tho, Thief is nowhnere near as bad as people are making it to be. We’re very good at what we do, and a slight push into a very few things would be enough to ease the complaints.
The complete absence of protection access is something that was probably a design choice at launch which should be re-evaluated. Maybe reworking acrobatics so its less based on vigor and more on protection access.
Protection on heal instead of vigor ? Stability on dodge instead of vigor ? ( that’s a scrapper trait already sadly )
Just throwing out ideas here, but there’s potential.
They could just replace it. Do you know why no one picks Concealed Defeat? No that the brilliant “I’m here” downed trait but because it’s competing with SE even if wrongly nerfed EA being a major means two never used traits don’t mention PvE it is flawed anyway.
On your suggestions to Acro what wasn’t that something they did with DD? Why change a dodge based line to create another dodge based line? “Kind” of lazy and cheap but it does make it easier to balance
. I agree some exaggerations were made but no “pushes” were ever mentioned or hinted.

Exactly. This one reason I am opposed to vault being 6 ini. Too many of our weapon skills that integral to the build costs 6 ini. This half the INI of a base build meaning use that skill and there little left for any followups.
Preparedness to baseline please.
All the other ones cost 6 that never really was an issue Vault just isn’t good/worthy I would put it under CnD even now that CiS is wrongly competing with SRej if you are not using d/p. Instead of max initiative they should provide more regen. Less initial burst but better in fight potential, the weak-ish initiative gain on evade is stuck in Acro, it sharing a third of evade base sustain and with Trickery being mandatory DD isn’t offering positive diversity.
A lot of wrongs happened and are being ignored but 6 initiative cost for #5 wasn’t one of them. Funny how DD is sold as a “staying in combat and evading spec” but the only staff skill that evades puts you of you combat.
Edit: When is CiS going to master tier or what is being done to compensate is the main thing what I am trying to get out of “he who knows his name” stop requesting constructive feedback when it’s been given since trait preview and you’ve ignored it. It was a surprise to see mesmer get IP baseline but I don’t see it as the same level as DE so baseline Preparedness or similar will be hard to get.

It is the same for every class I believe it’s intended for easier balance purposes. Those “should be baseline or minor” traits are seen as conditional by them.

On dealing with conditions stealth is more reliable because you can directly use it or at faster reflexes without throwing your entire sustain away. The on evade requirement will screw the cleansing even if partial cleansing is on dodge. They nerfed SE to make it look more attractive it really isn’t some call it OP due to 1 sec ICD but nope. This is a similar scenario of having torment/confusion on you your foe has the advantage.
Only GS is slow I doubt it will leave PvE so thinking reaper is piece of cake to dodge is false.

Or how about just rerolling and killing everyone with their own professions. Because that is balance.
Never thought of it that way but this is could end with positive results eventually but how long it would take is a concern. It’s an RNG like solution if you put yourself in their point of view.
This game would lose a lot of players if this would get implemented lol.
It’s not like new players are staying on thief for a while either so meh..

I question the competence of the players you fought. Don’t get me wrong I love the dmg on p/p with pure zerk
, but it’s really just insta death if you don’t kill the other person fast enough, so it’s not very viable
It’s the same effect(not as big) as when burn stacking was first introduced or necro allowed decent attrition. It takes time for people to recognize the unusual that happened once to my team I had to call out the p/p thief that no one was seeing once I did we went on and won. Give it time and everything is back to normal.

I think so too. I’m tempted to make a post telling people how weak we really are (spoiler, the truth may surprise you) but then I think of how many numbers and calculations I have to pull and I’m lazy. We are bad, but not impotent. Correction: We are very very bad, but not impotent.

They haven’t decided to nerf SB#5yet,anything works in PvE or WvW and they obviously have to sell DD so some thieves will be alive. I kind of rerolled to necro but I do sometimes get back on thief trying to find something positive about my usual specs. It’s an undeserved pain.

By release, no, but it unloaded a bunch of bleeds and unholy feast used to be basically AoE feast of corruption (bonus damage per condi)
Quite funny axe would have a better condi weapon with proper changes and scepter power assuming they kept debuffs but replaced bleeds with vuln. Off-topic but the OH dagger and focus need help to back up either axe or scepter WH CD can’t cover both swaps.

I remember but by original I mean I won’t have to use the one for necro which I got from a GW1 player’s experience. They quickly made it useless fortunately but thief is shaping to fit that belief.

Tbh there are necros that used scepter in power builds and a few were mentioned around in this forum, axe was that bad it’s not there yet but I’m not going to deny that scepter was used in power builds it does offer better debuffs than axe. Wasn’t axe originally a condi weapon as well?

There weren’t any substantial buffs or reworks. (Well, the change between trait lines to spec lines… But that was more of a shuffle of things along with somethings being removed and somethings being made baseline rather than a full-on rework.)
There have been a relatively steady stream of nerfs.
So yes, the thief is weaker than it was 1.5 years ago…. But it’s still stronger than what it will be in 1.5 years.
I like the true story behind that last sentence. This could easily replace old necro’s “3 more years to go
” and it’s original. Most seems to wait for HoT release as deadline but this is costing them the thief population.

The planet mercury and the Roman God Mercury is just a renaming of Hermes and the naming of Mercury the planet was based on its speed in orbit . The Element mercury was also called “quicksilver” due to its fluid nature and how it flowed again referencing Hermes.

Since whole Daredevil “Elite” Specialization is a lazy rework of Acrobatics… maybe it felt lazy and appropriate to rework the swiftness icon for Daredevil to make it a cherry on the top?

LF generation may not be scepter specific a lot compare it to d/wh which is a worthless comparison. The OH are lacking, focus is would be okay if #5 didn’t have such a cast time and #4 just gave direct healing instead of regen, OH dagger is terrible no LF gain and easily avoidable attacks. My recent scepter experience was with cele and my biggest issue was always what should I pair with, tried just WH and the other two it was kind of enraging.
I do feel the damage but since LF gain got nerfed I hope that means the OH dagger and focus get better WH CD are too high to cover both swaps, the same goes for axe. Help the OH’s then I’ll judge it better. Can anyone explain to me why OH dagger has no LF gain what is the design hold back on that? We got the argument for axe but what about OH dagger?

Some Suggestions:
*Auto could have its damage increased to a 0.75 multiplier since it’s single target damage at only 900 range.
*Pistol 2 could have a boon strip with the vuln that would put the utility on par with SB.
*Unload could have its shots cut in half if they’d give it a backwards roll (and buff auto). The whole skill could fire 4 shots over 0.75 seconds while giving a 0.5 second evade frame similar to shortbow.
*Finally, put a piercing trait in for pistols. They need some way to compete with the multitarget capabilities of shortbow which far outclasses pistols in a teamfight

no pistol will ever compete with shortbow, unless they somehow give pistols a long range, ground targeted movement skill (like, say, staff #5, if they buff it), infinite blast finishers, and a pulsing poison field to slow down rezzes.
It is possible for p/p and p/d(if d/d was really a hybrid set) to compete with SB if combat oriented. Losing SB means losing disengage a lot of us ask for better team presence that presence could be fulfilled by those two if we give up the mobility of SB. That’s partially why I wanted rifle for elite spec since p/p and p/d got nerfed with the intro of spec lines.
That’s why p/p needs to give up that “spam to try” design and offer combat sustain same with with p/d(that one kind of did until CiS became a GM RIP synergy) since SB has the mobility. All people saw when “Team Rifle” was around was a 1200 weapon we saw more than that. Little or big number changes won’t change that so we are where we are.
I don’t know what more is in store but if that’s not the mentality that’s around p/d and p/p I would prefer them to tell us so we can stop hoping. The other way is if we can drop semi-tanks as soon as they are in range meaning game breaking damage increase.

second, i was just arguing against “it can compete with SB”, which is a silly claim, because it can’t compete with SB if they’re competing in entirely different categories.
third, those 3 extra initiative are so vital for thief that no one would even think of running anything but trickery. it would be like an elementalist that doesn’t run arcana.
and last, they’d never add an on-swap effect as baseline, it would be a weird, obtuse mechanic that only exists on one profession.
Revenant has a on swap effect for their legends, class mechanics are not supposed to be identical. Making the initiative pool linked to weapon swap while improving combat efficiency is the needed step.

1 thing that should have never ever came to anyone’s mind was putting CiS next to SRej. I have seen weak sets receiving baby steps in improvement but never were they gutted so everyone should play the strongest one this only happened with d/p and literally every other thief’s set. CiS needs to go back to master tier or CnD gets baseline blind we don’t anymore p/p like sets.
@BrunoBRS the “on demand stealth” only applies to d/p
1 complaint that’s under the radar because they are too much of them is Concealed Defeating competing with SE…nothing can compete to SE put the fall damage there instead.
On SR it’s my favorite joy in PvP when a thief drops it, that skill is overrated.

I agree on palm or fist icon being better that shoe would fit base thief better. DD is intended to stay in combat not run away from it. Funny how I hate Hermes especially in God of War 3 I’m more of a Hades and Ares fan.

They need to leave the bleeds on Death Blossom. Don’t mess with Death Blossom.
Why should they? No one seriously uses D/D as a hybrid setup because due to initiative constraints its just a Death Blossom spam, in which case you’re better off just gearing for condition instead.
The idea was probably to DB people to put on pressure and then burst them down with backstab or HS, but it just doesn’t work, and they’ve clearly got no plans to make it work because D/D is cemented as a power weapon in the eyes of the community.
The fact that Dagger Rookie was introduced means they want it to become hybrid. There is 1 person seriously promoting ballerina thieves in forums but to me it’s the as p/p spam to try, literally.

Honestly I’d say the only thing you went a little silly with was the cooldown reductions. There’s a lot of 25s’ in there for relatively powerful abilities.
I got giddy when I saw Bountiful Interruption though, THAT is a trait I’d love to see.
Aside from the unrealistic cooldowns, I’d say that a lot of this is not only VERY good but also rather realistic in terms of expectations. I’d love to see this happen.
Thanks. Out of curiosity, are you talking about the Venom cool down reductions now all being 25 seconds? Would like to know which skills you are talking about, and the reasons for why you think they would be too strong.

I would recommend reconsidering the purpose of Lingering Curse. Rolling half it’s power baseline has double sides scepter is better but the trait is even weaker the change cancels out for less diversity. If Lingering Curse isn’t going to benefit allies and make condi necro relevant in PvE help the other modes by adding a special effect “your damaging conditions (excluding terror and deathly chill) gives 3 1/2%LF every 3 sec(not restricted to scepter conditions)”.

Okay if it’s not going to trigger on exit as well, let it corrupt two boons or grant LF per foe hit.
LF wouldn’t be given to you as you are now in DS so thats pointless. There are very few ways that you can actually restore life force in DS. I do agree with maybe entrance and exit or converting 2 boons over 1 boon.
I think adding triggering on exit or 2 boon conversion would make it somewhat more tempting to be in competition with the other 2 grandmasters. But still becomes quite useless in pve. In pve the only option worth taking is close to death for that 20%
That’s because PvE is all about damage there is no way the other two would compete it in that mode. About 66% of necro is useless there due to lack of boon and damaging condition mobs anyway. I wish they could polish their field and combo system so “wrong field buddy” stop happening and projectile and whirl finishers would be more useful.

Axe lacks an identity it’s just a “settle down” weapon more than staff actually. A decent decreased cast time or an additional hit on AA,decreasing Ghastly Claws’s CD to 6 or 6 1/2 sec and making Unholy Feast corrupt 2 boons would give it this debuffing and burst-ish style, I understand it’s unique attack pattern but it is still single target and has to compete with staff(Soul Marks) OH dagger and focus are meh but the range increase is still appreciated. Spiteful Spirit seems bugged btw.

Irenio said on the Ranger forum that this would not be a huge patch, and there will be more. But currently, most classes got meh changes…The ranger changes to their we heal as one skill were pretty huge though.

That’s not actually unusual in the MMO industry. You see that sort of bargaining all the time. It is by a large an empty threat as most people invested enough to make the threat are thoroughly hooked.

Though, like that HoT Price thread that has +130 pages… You know something wrong is going on. I mean, at the very least, it’s an indication – Might be the longest forum thread that I’ve seen – might be.
The problem is thief is just a class so they don’t really care. You could get HoT for something else or another class since most rerolled.

Templates are something we would love to do. We have talked about this quite a bit, and with the frequency we’re seeing raid builds get tweaked we agree this would be a huge help.
Nice this should help in PvP as well and could possibly put Courtyard in ranked. I do wonder how long it will take.

I will start with “Anything works in WvW and PvE”.
I don’t who does but when I use a corruption, now only Consume Conditions, I never send the self condi it is not worth it. It doesn’t matter in PvE first because it’s easy and it’s flawed there is no real condition pressure so cleansing is often disregarded meaning 66% of necro is useless there. Even back then with CB there is no point in sending that 1 condi you have other conditions to worry about did I forgot to say PvE is flawed? So no they shouldn’t be scared of giving them more power without raising the self condi, it wouldn’t even reach requirement levels such as Ice Bow or PS war in PvE.
Oh how could I forget…my bad but yes PvE is flawed.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that elementalist and thief, who got kittenty elite spec, are both under Karl and his team management? I don’t think so.
I hate to say this but I think it really is.
As far as I know, the 3 least liked elite specs were Dragonhunter, Tempest and Daredevil, and all 3 if them are under his management.
Druid and berserker seem to be competing for that spot.
Hardly anyone mentions berserkers, and druid seems to be the only elite spec that people actually outright hate, rather than just being disappointed by.
Only thing people about druid is that he is mainly a healer he’s danm good at it for zerks it’s only because rage skills resemble physical skills and zerk state being somewhat dull. They are not disappointing some just don’t like the choice I was surprised druid was healer and some warriors claim “I didn’t choose war to play condi” and keep being ignorant.
You definitely can’t compare those 2 to DD,DH or Tempest.

It’s not a daredevil issue, but i feel like i MUST take trickery with every spec i play.
Without the 3 extra initiative thief feels so much more boring and useless .I would love to see a dev playing thief without trickery , perhaps they will then notice how dependant we are from trickery.
The steal cooldown is nice, but we can live without , but +3 initiative is a gamebreaker for every spec out there , it’s like attument cooldown was for ele .
This is indirectly intended of them it is the same for every class unless you are in WvW or PvE anything works there. Possibly for balance purposes because everyone realized this after a couple hours on a class they’ve made those classes..

On the forum “attacking” “he who knows his name” as a dev that shouldn’t affect his work or communication he won’t make progress by staying by himself in an office with the same mentality that created the “attacks”. There was barely anything from him except for selling DD and purity of pistols 2.0, nothing on OH dagger and why SA nerfs that barely scratched d/p (why would you think CiS as a GM is good idea why even non thief players wouldn’t but you did!!),noth…etc. I could go on but this forum section already did.
If tuesday doesn’t show he understood the feedback he can only expect one thing not trying to put more pressure but latest changes are not a good sign.

I know how protection works I’ve been playing since beta. What I’m saying due to the recent changes to vulnerability working with condition damage Protection should work against condition damage. Its a fair trade-off.

How about making one of the P/P skills a blast finisher? I mean, anet still hasn’t said what we will get in exchange for all the revealed stuff, but significant lower initative cost for either #2 or 4 and it being a blast finisher would help a lot, I think.
Blast finisher? That would mean that the bullet would need to explode… that goes against the purity of pistols… and we can’t go against that…
But isn’t BP an explosion already? If it lays a field it has to explode right?

I see the problem. What if everything in Shadow Arts stayed the same as is in game, and Hidden Assassin was merged with Meld with shadows, the master minor trait. The names Meld with Shadows and Hidden Assassin both fit for a merged trait. I want it to work with all weapon sets if possible, but not make this line too strong.
CiS needs to not compete with SRej not every set is d/p. I’m fine with with the loss of both as long SA and Acro provide real sustain that what they are supposed to do. Acro is a third of the evade based sustain DD got two thirds of it.

On evade on Unload think range version of war GS#3 it may not be possible but damage boost is not the way to go unless you can down foes instantly.
