Can someone link the reddit thread?
Unless there’s a different REDDIT thread on the matter it’s been linked in the post right above yours
Elite was a poor choice to describe what they wanted to do here. They wanted to start to offer specialization lines that you can only choose one of that will make the profession play a little bit differently.
They needed a descriptor for these “unique” specialization lines and they settled on “Elite”. Honestly “Unique” is already defined in game can only have one of equipped but “Unique” implies the limitation but not the scope of changes that using one grants.
But equally true that “Elite” doesn’t mean superior which is how most everyone will read that as. And they already used up the word specialization when it replaced Trait Line.
Agreed Elite was a poor choice.
Elite is already defined in game as well as Unique. However, the pre-existing in game definition of Elite fits more or less with its actual definition.
It’s quite misleading.
Not because they’re meant to be superior power-wise.
That’s pretty much the definition of Elite.
You want to define it differently Anet be my guest, but don’t double dip on labels then. Our Elite skill is supposed to be an “especially powerful skills designed to be used infrequently and have a dramatic effect on the tide of a battle.” while Elite specializations merely allow use of new weapons, skill types and traits. All the while not being more powerful than core specializations.
And to answer the OP’s question, in HoT there will be one Elite spec per profession (with potentially more to come in the future). You can chose any 3 specializations with ONE being Elite.
(edited by Sagramor.7395)
I find the word Elite kinda confusing in this context about specs and builds.
You and me both. Elite implies superior, but AFAIK Elite specs aren’t supposed to be superior at all. They’re only intended to offer up a different way to play your current profession.
They could’ve picked any number of words instead of Elite, but it’s already in the GW2 vernacular albeit with a different meaning so why not use it despite it not meaning what you think it means right?
There are a few other words (that would otherwise be synonymous) shared between various uses in GW2 that are unfortunately currently escaping me. This is the most unfortunate example of that behavior, however.
I’ve never found the need for more than a 5-button mouse. Logitech MX518 then Razer Deathadder (would not recommend), now Logitech G400.
That aside, as with any keybindings you’re going to have to decide for yourself what works best for you. And chances are it’s going to take some time.

See for yourself.
Or just alter the trajectory algorithm to fly along the same arc, faster. The tooltip doesn’t say, throw them straighter and harder. Says a quantifiable amount faster, does not mention arc alteration
this is all I want
It been quite a few years, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how physics works.
I really would appreciate minor terrain anomalies and blades of grass not causing “obstructed” however.
Until we get a weapon swap, which probably won’t happen any time soon if ever, kits are gonna be a mainstay of the Engineer.
Why would anybody even suggest a new kit in HoT? We get a new weapon and skill type as Forge. End of story.
Not only that, but we’ve already exhausted all of our kit slots.
The problem with the back skin solution is that it’s not tied to kits at all. I enjoyed the old functionality where back skins changed with kits.
I can’t even imagein why the hell Anet removed skins completely.
Because there is a 10,000 post thread dedicated to the removal of hobo sacks
I’ll quote the OP of the 37 page Hobosack thread for you…
“Simplest and most efficient fix: Give us a toggle to hide or show hobo-sacks when we have a kit equipped. It’s probably an easy update, it is optional (so those who want to keep the hobo look can), and it will probably help sales for the new quaggan and charr backpacks.”
Pleasing everyone with the Option would’ve been a solution that everyone would’ve been happy with. Really not sure why they didn’t go that route.
If IP wasn’t so kitten hard to access. That would be awesome to run with hybrid build.
Firearms has 2 solid melee traits, so IP isn’t out of the question.
I’d rather learn how to be good at the class that I enjoyed since day one, than learn another one.
Thanks for your answers, thought I’d love to hear more opinions.
Playing a class for any other reason than it’s what you enjoy quickly turns a game into a job.
Which game mode is this for?
Great for zerg as well as roaming.
Why take Alchemy and HGH when all you have is one elixir? Wouldnt it be better to take Inventions?
Elixir S
Toss Elixir S
Elixir Shell
Hidden Flask
Self-Regulating Defenses
And Inventions would likely be inferior to Alchemy regardless of HGH.
you really just can’t make everyone happy
Actually you can. If they had just put in a toggle in the first place instead of removing them wholesale we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
I’m not sure about Mesmer as it’s the one Scholar profession I haven’t really played at high levels, but Necro and Ele will both benefit from any of those Runes. I run Pack because it’s cheaper, but Strength is probably the way to go if you have the cash.
I liked them. I feel cheated they removed them from kits… . Was part reason why I rolled engie.
They should make it a toggle option to have it like it used to be for those of us who want it.
They way they did it is screw one group of people to satisfy another group.
This all they way.
/Signed!
What is this hobos askittenep hearing about ?
Referring to this. 37 pages of whining that got Engineer Kit back skins removed from the game.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Hobo-Sacks-A-Terrible-Fashion-Statement/page/37
love it being gone. looked like i was the honey bee man
This is why we can’t have nice things. Namely FT and EG back skins associated with their kits.
You think FC is a ghost town imagine what it’s like on the two servers below you.
I don’t get where people are obtaining their info that Drones are AI minions.
The current trailer shows that Drones will be hovering around the Forge so with Forge designed to be melee Specialization for Engi it would weaken Forge too much if the drones can be destroyed due to Forge’s melee nature.

We already have our AI skill set in Turrets. But we’re the only Profession (not counting Revenant) without Signets. I know that Signets are supposed to be magical, but these drones would be functionally like Signets in that they would provide a passive effect with an activated ability (disabling the passive), and in the case of Engineers a Toolbelt skill.
Wolfineer seems to share my hope that it’ll be a Signet-like skill set.
http://www.wolfineer.com/what-i-want-the-elite-specialization-to-be/
If I were going to give Engi Resistance I would probably change the Toolbelt of Elixir H to grant Resistance (in addition to it’s random Boons). That would mean one less skill that’s 100% RNG. Not sure of the duration and potential recharge increase necessary to keep it balanced though.
Hello.
Since the new expansion reveal trailer many of my friends decided to come back and I would also like to start playing GW2 again.
But I would like to ask one question first, if that’s no problem
I only have a lv80 ranger and I’ve spent some time already checking all changes, opinions and builds. Unfortunatelly I’ve read a lot of negative comments about status of the ranger and I was thinking about creating new character. My mind is on thief with pistols or engineer with rifle – will it be a good choice versatility and group-utility wise?
Login and make up your own mind about the state of the Ranger (and any other aspect of the game). Don’t go looking to the forums for a balanced opinion on anything. Not to say you shouldn’t be visiting them and contributing where and when you can, but a lot more people seem to come to the forums to complain about one thing or another (regardless of merit) than the alternative. So that’s just what you’ll see.
You should be able to get a whole set (or close to it) of Seer’s armor from map completion I think.
If you’re leaning towards Engi because you liked the turrets in Planetside, then you might want to second guess that choice. With the exception of Healing Turret, turrets are rarely used.
I sorta wish they’d get rid of Condi duration entirely and just give all Conditions a flat 50% boost. Maybe make it so Critcal hits with Condis applied a longer lasting duration or something?
Granted this sounds like a terrible idea but If it allows someone to springboard and create a better idea, please, step on it.
It’s actually not a bad idea. Having (possibly with a trait) allow condis applied via crit have longer durations. I would fix the +/- Condi food on top of this, but it would make condition builds put more weight on more offensive stats than only Condition Damage.
They don’t need to be removed. They just need to be set to appropriate values. There’s no reason +/- (ALL) Condition food needs to be 40% when Poison/Burning/Chill food is at +15% for the same level food.
Assuming the Poison/Burning/Chill food is at an appropriate value, then +/- (ALL) Condition food should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10%.
Comes out to ~8.2% if you use Giver weapons as a basis for comparison of stat distribution.

It’s a mortar not an RPG launcher. Think of it like a modern grenade launcher.
Servers only matter for WvW. Every other aspect of the game your server is largely irrelevant due to the megaserver.
As for leveling and learning curve I can’t really comment since they’re overhauled the skill/trait system twice since I leveled my last character.
Just get in and start playing. If you want to get a feel for a certain profession you’re interested in at max level hop into PvP where everyone is 80.
Sounds like you might enjoy Wildstar.
Who said it was focused on Control?
The Meet the Tempest article describes the Tempest as “a close-range specialization capable of blasting out damage and support.”
The scale probably doesn’t go lower than medium. As a face saving measure so it doesn’t appear that servers are essentially empty for significant portions of time.
When I did log in, it was only for my daily log in reward. I did some fractals on my alt account because I’m really in to PvE according to Mike. I found out he was wrong though, I’m really not in to PvE as I was able to confirm to myself by trying PvE again.
So basically, I spent some time away from the game. It gave me time to decide to not buy the expansion and I’m currently looking for a new game to play. The lack of response to all of the WvW players cries for help was a major turn off and I think that a company that does not care about their customers is a company that I will not support.
Essentially this minus the PvE part. Confirmed I’m not crazy about GW2 PvE long ago.
As for upcoming games Crowfall is looking pretty good. And I started playing Return of Reckoning again.
I mentioned a server chat channel in the “something needs to be done about ET & DR” thread and I’m going to second that here. It’s the simplest option, and would fix the two glaring problems introduced with megaservers.
1. Advertising/Recruiting for WvW guilds outside of WvW
2. Rallying PvEers to join the fight
you want your hobosack back?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Universal_Multitool_Pack
or if you want a kitten verson
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zephyr_Rucksack_Skin
there everybody is happy.
I liked that it changed with kits. I look at my characters back most of the time, so it was very visible, and much better than small changes they put in to “compensate”…
Personal preference of course, and if they were to make the change, why throw away all of it, a compromise is pretty easy to come to.
I dont see why it could not have been an option, if no back pack displaying, use kits. if you have a back pack displaying, that stays…..solution for everyone.
/this
I’m really not sure why this wasn’t the solution that was reached instead of removing them from the game entirely. There’s already a checkbox for the back slot. Just add an override to it’s functionality. Or add a second checkbox for the override so Hobosack die-hards can use the Universal Multitool Pack when not using a kit and still have back skins change with kits. Either way the solution should never have been to remove them entirely.
Sure the Universal Multitool Pack is nice, but like the OP I liked the the back skins changing with the kits and using the UMP skin is not a solution.
metabattle.com is a good place to start for roaming and zerg builds (zerg being large group and roaming being solo or duo).
There are no current “meta” builds up on metabattle for any prof. Sure you can adapt some PvP builds for (mostly) roaming, or take a look at the Draft/Test builds, but there are no Meta builds up for WvW.
If you’re curious about builds check the guides posted on intothemists. Some streamers post their guides there.
Voice Comms are definitely the place to be if you want to help out your server.
Just get in and start playing with your PvE gear.
Haha, if you do that you may create bad first impressions amongst your teammates with your rallybotting. Always best to ask those around you for some help, like you’ve done here.
What I was trying to get across is that you shouldn’t be deterred by not having a “WvW set” of gear. No one likes a rallybot, but personally I’d rather have a player show up in their PvEs than not show up at all.
Just get in and start playing with your PvE gear. Repairs are free. Tweak your builds for WvW, and if it’s something you want to pursue get your self a set of WvW gear.
I really think they should have only done megaserver for the general world, and not capital cities/LA. That way your server would still have a rally point.
Or to avoid having to revert cities to being server specific just add a chat channel for /server, which would be a global (or just spanning cities and WvW maps) channel. Not only would it enable you to rally players, but having that dialogue presence in a players chat box might get players who aren’t WvW regulars interested enough to join the Mist War. It would also give WvW-centric guilds a place to recruit. Something that’s been problematic since megaservers.
Haven’t tried an Elixir focused build since patch, but Bombs won’t be preferable until they fix the radius.
I’d be okay with requiring a hit to proc HGH.
Or rename it to something without “Elixir” in the name. We all get that the F is supposed to stand for Flubber, and that’s cute. But either make it function like other weapon-based Elixirs or rename it.
When you come across a PvP build that doesn’t translate to WvW (and vice versa) it’s probably more likely that the purpose for which it was built doesn’t have a parallel in the other game mode, and it is therefore ineffective.
Getting back to stats it’s doable, but not without using a rune like Exuberance/Wurm. You’re gonna end up high on Power/Ferocity and struggle to balance Crit/Vit.
Just mix some zerk and valk gear. Like you would have when it was called the Berserker amulet.
There’s a thread in the bug forum you should probably be posting this in if it isn’t already covered there.
Should 2HT have a lower ICD, remove the 50% chance or remove the ICD and get a 3 times per 10s rule?
I’d be fine with either of these.
