Well as per google translate all teleport skills appear to have a change of, “This ability when unable to find a valid path between the target will no longer start.” with a few variations.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2yrugo/1332015_original_patch_note_from_china/
Consider it fixed? As of next patch looks like it will grant Stealth instead of Camouflage.
If someone can translate cleaner than google knock yourself out.
“This feature is now applied to the generic version of stealth, but when you move will not lead to overt Ranger .”

On my WvW Power build that I generally use for flipping camps (A/A + GS) I’ve beaten a few D/D Eles. Fights can be a bit drawn out, but it’s a good time.
I can’t think of a reason they wouldn’t stack.
That aside there are certain things that don’t show up in your combat log. I’m not sure if any of those will or won’t show up in the log, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Looking at the wikis for each there’s nothing about any not stacking with other effects or not showing up in the combat log.
Power/Condi/Celestial ?
I get the Power and Condit, can someone explain the celestial please?
I think I will wind up going sword/shield/LB
Can someone advise on a build/traits/gearing layout if you have one available?
Appreciating the help folks, thanks BTW
Celestial gear has an even split of all stats. Ordinarily it can turn out to be a bit weak, but in this case you have access to a lot of Might along with weapon sets that have both solid power and condi attacks so it works out.
For PvP I’d do something like this.

As for WvW I lean towards Zerker with Celestial Accessories because frankly I haven’t made the commitment to crafting Cele gear. And as you can see by the consumables I’m cheap.

While you can play whatever you want in open world PvE I’d hesitate to take either a MH Sword or LB into a dungeon. If you must take a Sword into a dungeon I’d recommend swapping out the OH Mace for a Sword in the current PvE dungeon meta. Sure you lose the Vuln stacks, but you get a short CD Block out of it, which a case could be made for if you had to. Unlike MH Sword, for which your reason would be because I like the aesthetic.
Open world, whatever you want. In a dungeon I think celestial dps/support hybrid would be a tough sell.
Just like they say in the dialog before you chose, the choice you make is permanent.
The only ways to get the Whisper’s Secret armor would be to reroll your character or follow Serra’s advice and make another toon, join the Order of Whispers, unlock the skin, and transmute your armor on your Priory toon.
I suggest to check Brazil’s build on youtube
Did you read the post? Brazil’s guide last I checked was a dungeon/fractal guide, and see below.
I am having a blast in open field PvE, but I plan on doing WvW and I have no idea if my set up will work there. I doubt I will spend much if any time in dungeons or sPvP.
Sword/Shield + Longbow is pretty solid and can be run as Power/Condi/Celestial (preferably all with Might stacking) depending on your preference.
Well with the weapons you’ve grown to like you’re looking at Trapper or Condition Survival builds for the most part.
What you’re seeing in guides saying LB + GS or LB + Sw/Axe is probably this
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_S/A_LB_Spotter
The thing with dungeons is that power builds are often preferred. For open world PvE you can play whatever you want. In PvP/WvW however this is often not the case until you hit large scale combat in WvW.
If you’re talking just dungeons in PvE however I think you’re not going to find much success in SB + Sword/Torch.
After the NPE changeover Personal Story starts at 10 now I think.
Since you’ve played before a few things have changed regarding leveling. I suggest you read up on the NPE to answer Questions 1&2. Might also answer potential future questions.

As for Question 3 I’m really not sure there. You may just be experiencing one of the downsides to playing on a large screen.
When using a flamethrower my toughness doesn’t go up on the hero screen and my power only changes when I get the stacks of might which makes me assume not only do they not work together but aren’t even working the way they say they are meant to.
Has anyone done any testing to see what the deal is? :/
Are you in combat when testing this? Often times when there’s a stat increase from a trait (not the flat % increase ones) it won’t be applied out of combat.
Sw/Sh + LB in WvW here.
I’m going to second looking at the Exuberance Frontliner thread. You don’t have to follow it verbatim, but take some ideas from that play style since it sounds like that’s where you’re leaning.
Standard response to every best profession question is whichever one works the best for YOU.
While there may technically be answers to your questions the answers may not suit you. Its best to experiment with and research professions from your short list (in this case Scholars) and pick whichever you like best.
Having played my fair share of MMOs, I’d say to try not to go looking for things from other games in GW2.
That being said there will be certain professions and builds that will play to your strengths. You’re just going to have to experiment and find out what works for you.
If you’re in game and want to message me feel free to add me. I’d be glad to help you out.
Ooo Ele S/F Earth Build sound like fun ?
Not an open world PvE build but here it is. At least I’m pretty sure this is the one. See description for updates.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1kA9I1kWLo
I too noticed the Exuberance Frontliner build on metabattle after seeing the Frontline Ranger thread, and I was really confused about the choice of Sword over Axe for exactly the reasons Puck stated.
I’ve been playing with a tankier Axe/Axe + GS build for quite a while on my Ranger and the only time I’d ever swap to Sword is for a duel.
Once you double click the kit any item that cannot be salvaged will be highlighted in red. Items purchased with karma and badges of honor are two examples, and I believe leveling/personal story rewards may be another one.
Reav leveling spec from 1-80 (if there one) ?

Umm… closed beta hasn’t even started yet.
Double click kit then click item to be salvaged.
I do not like swapping weapons really annoys me unless if i have to keep swift up though but thinkin of doing ft with Exp : VI, IX then Firearms I, VII then Alch VI, VII, IX ?
If you really dislike swapping weapons then I’m not sure this is the game for you. One way or another you’re seriously gimping yourself by not swapping.
That being said, there are a few builds floating around for people who just want to sit in a single weapon/kit/attunement and spam #1, but none to my knowledge involve FT and I think they’re generally single target PVP condi builds. Off the top of my head I’m thinking of VeeWee’s #1 spam EG build and an Ele S/F Earth build.
11 months ago, so only another 6-9months before they maybe think about looking at it…. (jk)
Probably…I really don’t know what’s holding them…Now with the adren loss on miss its kinda infuriating at times having to miss a burst and lose 3 full bars of adren not even cus of your own fault..frustrating, espec when it’s a game changer.
Probably a quirk in the game that’s not able to be fixed.
Possibly related – I don’t know if it’s still the case but you use to be able to LoS ranged NPCs using low objects like benches and fences.
Back on topic, sorta, I have been leveling an Ele and once in a while FGS #4 will send me in the opposite direction I’m facing.
Most builds short of Turrets and HGH use at lease 2 kits. And even if you use only a single kit you’re probably going to want to swap back and forth between kit and weapon fairly regularly. As often as you would weapon swapping on another prof for example.
As for being able to “cream through mobs/packs well” I’m not really sure how to respond to that.
For Engineers one of the better resources out there is http://www.wolfineer.com/
There may be a similar site for Eles, but I’ve only started dipping my toes into that prof.
I’m gonna have to say clock a little more time on your Ranger to see if it lives up to your play style. You can float in and out of melee pretty well if you build for it. You just have to keep an eye on your pet. Necro can be pretty tanky too if you get really good at DS utilization.
You’re assessment of the Guardian is pretty good in that their utilities feel like mostly buffs (and defensive abilities) in effect. I’ve played a lot of characters of this archetype in previous games and I’ve started and deleted 3 Guardians (all into the 30s) so far, and I’m on my 4th try. Probably has to do with Guardian’s combat feeling slow to me when paired with the combat system of GW2.
As for comparing your previous game experience to GW2 a WoW Paladin plays most similarly to a Guardian, Dark Templar feels more like a Warrior with a splash of Necro (maybe Revenant when HoT hits), and SWTOR Guardian is straight up Warrior.
There’s a trait for that. Spirits Unbound (Nature Magic VII).
I don’t want to pve! I bought and installed the game because it said it was PvP focused… I could care less about standing on x and running to y while group 2 kills the dragon!
“they are ruining my subculture! You know, the one I joined last week!”
Pretty much. Glad I put down my coffee before looking at this thread. Always good for a laugh.
I’ve messed around with deep BM builds before mostly with double birds as in that video. It never felt it had much of a place outside of dueling though.
As per the Angry Joe interview with Colin Johanson players who do not buy HoT will be playing on the new WvW map.
It wouldn’t make any sense to change one of the WvW maps (that the player has no control over) for the expansion and then lock them out of it because they didn’t buy the xpac.
(edited by Sagramor.7395)
Yes. It wasn’t always the case, but sigils are active when carrying bundles (banners, kits, conjures, etc.).
I bought and installed the game because it said it was PvP focused.
There’s a line about “world class PvP” but I don’t recall any press saying the game was PvP focused.
If it’s for open world PvE then play whatever you want. It really doesn’t matter. For dungeons/fractals I’d say read up on some guides for ideas one more effective setups.
Main hand axe and 3 points into nature magic.
The rest is up to you.
this setup is more effective, in most cases, then 6 points into BM.
Very True
This the guy?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQd53qlCvo8
If so the build is in the description. you’d just want to move Forceful Explosives to Adept and grab Incendiary Powder from Master. The traits have been rearranged a little since Dec 2013, and iirc Incendiary Powder was probably still an Adept trait then. I’m pretty sure that’s what he was going for.
Would you be able to link the video or if you remember the streamer’s name we might be able to help? Condi builds generally run Pistol/Shield and there are plenty of good ones out there.
I was always under the impression that pet abilities that healed were only used when a pet has suffered damage. As for the thresholds for each I’m not sure.
I’m not sure about Defy Pain though.
Play what you enjoy.
As far as something like a census goes I don’t believe that’s possible, so one would be making an educated guess at best.
Guardians are Defensive Heavy Armor Melee
In most cases yes.
Warriors are semi offensive Heavy Armor Archers?
Not quite. Warriors are weapon masters first and foremost. Currently the best weapon for the job in Conquest PvP happens to be Longbow.
A carefree environment of me enjoying my game does not include Facebook. Beer perhaps, but definitely not Facebook.
Mine includes Facebook, I don’t like beer
I’m not going to convince you in any way, as there are a lot of opinions and each are as valuable. Though doesn’t mean such a group as ours isn’t valued by some
Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
Enjoy your Facebook tainted GW2 community
I wouldn’t transfer. Just wait till the match-up changes. It happens all the time. A server either will have a good week and end up in a higher tier out-manned by both opponents, or a server from a higher tier for whatever reason will get bumped down causing a similar problem but but less severe. When you simply don’t have enough coverage to fight back a lot of players will go elsewhere (EotM, PvE, PvP, etc.) because WvW isn’t fun for them anymore.
I’m from a server below both of you and it’s a relatively frequent occurrence.
Just hoard ‘em for a while. Chances are the stat difference between exotic and ascended isn’t going to make an ounce of difference to you. Down the road once you’ve got a good idea of what you want to do with your character(s) then start worrying how to spend ’em.
I thought that’s why we had these forums. GW2 is arguably one of the most friendly gaming community out there. Sure there’s vitriol oozing from those who like to rant/complain, and apparently have nothing better to do. But by and large the community is quite friendly and helpful.
Example:
Ever so often a thread will even pop up telling the story of how a PvE player was doing map completion in a hostile WvW map and opponents would leave them alone when it’s clear that’s the player’s intention.
I’m just not sure why anyone would need a Facebook group for this. A carefree environment of me enjoying my game does not include Facebook. Beer perhaps, but definitely not Facebook.
yeah i used that but not enough damage for me to survive
I’m not sure what you mean by this?
Survival isn’t all about out-damaging a mob while you’re face-tanking each other, which I have a feeling may be the case here. If it’s not please explain what you mean. There are control and support measures you should be utilizing (in addition to Dodge/Evade (if you’re a Charr)) as well as damage while fighting anything.
Dungeons or open world PvE?
What’s wrong with a Ranger using a GS (assuming that’s what you meant)? It’s a pretty strong weapon.
Like I want to be a killer tank, who can help my team by tanking and or healing them.
There are no Tanks or Healers in this game. You might want to read up on GW2 combat elements.
