The only thing I can get behind here is making Mending a Physical ability. The rest of it goes from unnecessary to defying the logic of how the traits are laid out in their respective trees.
I’m really not sure why people pigeonhole Axe into condition only builds when only one of the attacks applies a damaging condition. And besides having those bleed stacks to cover the Weakness is pretty nice.
Care to share with the group what you’ve come up with?
When I use A/A it’s with GS. Mostly for soloing camps and small group ops in WvW, not so much for dueling/PvP.
It’s because the auto attack is too slow and the might stacks are too short. It works with condi’s because you can apply the condi’s and push up the tick damage with auto attacks. With power you lose too much might before getting off any burst attacks.
To clarify as I eluded to in a prior post I’d only recommend MH Axe when you’d also be taking Fortifying Bond. You’re right though about MH Axe not having enough oomph by itself especially if you’re not getting all of your bounces.
Now that I know the build isn’t a “Range Nuker” but an “Armored Nuker” I’d make some changes. Presumably you’ll be using F1s from both the LB and Axe. That being said I’d drop everything in Tactics (arguably a waste) and max out Discipline for Burst Mastery. Maybe to a spread of 0/3/5/0/6.
As for making a case for Shield, since you’re running full Signets you have no Endure Pain so having the block is nice. Also Shield Bash helps a lot in setting up Eviscerate.

I’d second a BM slanted build, or at least a build that utilizes Fortifying Bond.
I’d recommend Krait over Undead assuming you’re using Entangle.
Strongest in which game mode?
Suggestions for Axe/X +Shortbow are going to be reduced to condition/celestial builds, which are generally less than ideal for PvE
For open world PvE especially if map completion and living story are your goals you’re probably going to want a Greatsword simply to get around the map faster.
- No condition removal.
- Brawler + Healing Signet is a bad match.
- Longbow really isn’t a ranged weapon, or at least it isn’t most effective at max range.
- Signet build without Signet Mastery probably isn’t all that ideal either.
If by anything you mean PvE, WvW, and PvP then no.
The Might change in conjunction with the change to Sigil of Battle is their response to all the QQ about might stacking builds as a whole builds being too strong.
People using Juggernaut just get the short end of the stick. To be honest you probably shouldn’t be using a build which has Juggernaut as a cornerstone in the first place.
You could probably run it on Ultra with a significantly less powerful machine than that. Def recommend an SSD though.
The OP specifically asked about solo roaming and the challenges posed by 1vX encounters.
In that scenario it’s your game so YOU play how YOU want, and whether or not you’re a free bag doesn’t matter to anyone else (or at least it shouldn’t). Additionally “rallybait” only matters in group encounters so that comment is completely invalid since we’re talking 1v1 and 1vX here.
If you wanna bash another subpar Ranger build I routinely run dual Axe + Greatsword, and without Wolf, GASP. Sometimes I’ll go Sword/Axe + Greastsword and pick a fight with a D/D Ele so I can practice my two-step. I usually end up losing (probably in part to my lack of Sword skills), but it lasts a while and it’s a helluva good time.
@ OP: Take your time experimenting with as many setups as you can to find something enjoyable that works for you. Heart of the Mists is a good place to experiment as changes don’t cost anything. Sure the stat spread on the amulets won’t be ideal and not all runes are available, but you can get a feel for how a spec will play. If you want to see what the cool kids are running then check out http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki but in no way is the meta the be-all and end-all.
@ Jim Hunter: Please stop using “duel” when you mean “dual”.
And stop trashing other players builds when they follow up with
“It’s important that you like the ranger you’re playing.. Don’t just copy builds/setups from other people, just try to experiment.. Try all the weapon combinations and determine which one feels the most OK for you.”
A/D + SB for me personally.
If you’re having trouble with Lightning Reflexes it sounds like you just have to pay better attention to where you’re facing when you hit it because you will evade backwards. If you have you’re back to a zerg and hit LR you’ll evade right into them like you described.
For conditions you have any combination of Healing Spring, SoR, Evasive Purity, Empathic Bond, and SotF. There are also Sigils of Generosity, Purity, and Cleansing.
As for fighting stealthed targets you have Sick ‘Em and Rapid Fire. Also try and time a Counterattack for when a Thief should be coming out of stealth, or use Barrage on their Shadow Refuge to try and force them out of it. If you’re having trouble with timing just add as much distance as you can.
Edit: Forgot to mention condition reduction Runes and Food.

Greataxe since it’s been pictured on the Warrior class page since probably before release. That’s really all I ask.
I can see why it hasn’t been implemented though, since I can’t think of another profession who would be using it.
You should be fine with any of those for PvP/WvW. It’s just a matter of which fits your play style best, and that’s something only your can answer.
I would suggest you read up on the meta, and watch some guides/streams to get a better idea of how each plays.
You really shouldn’t be afraid of assembling a new PC on your own.
Gonna echo the two above me.
i7 is a waste of money. As is more than 8GB RAM. Should also consider an SSD as it definitely improves load times. As for the vid card a mid-range affordable one should be fine.
Save your PVT and Melandru for Zerging in WvW.
As for the editor the site can be flakey, just try it again.
Take a look at this site to get an idea of what the cool kids are using.

Which game mode? (PvP, WvW, PvE)
Plug it into an editor please.
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/
Hybrid melee ranger. Its built to endure and burst. And if that fails, condies will wear your enemy out fast enough.
How is your condi removal? Do you ever swap Two-handed Training for Evasive Purity?
This may help.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Try setting FPS limit to 60 and see if that helps.
- How do you handle conditions?
- Which jewels are you using in your accessories?
- Which consumables do you use?
- Why use Ranger Runes if you’re calling pets a liability and complaining about how fast they die?
Any of those 4 can be played effectively as roamers.
I’m all for having more of a connection between the borderlands and EB where there currently isn’t much. The immediate downside to this concept is illustrated in your first two cons. These two issues cannot be circumvented except by adding additional maps leading to the current system.
The third con is something that isn’t only a problem overnight, but also during non-prime time on low pop servers. You can flip and entire map (aside from maybe SMC) with 2 players as long as you’re unopposed. The only answer to this is to add more passive defense from NPCs, which will likely never happen. What could be done is to have Lords scale like in EotM and PvE (Champs).
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Lord-Room-Scaling/first#post4575082
By placing a keep at the borders as you describe, if I understand correctly, a player would only be able to move to a map other than their home BL if they controlled the border keep. This is something that while adding a certain level of potential strategy would never fly.
People complaining about the new daily system isn’t the same as people struggling to complete their dailies. Making a guide on how to complete the new dailies is completely unnecessary. You’re offering a solution to a non-existent problem.
If the complaint is that there are too many buttons to remember it’s going to be the same on a controller, and likely worse because there’s a good chance you’ll need to have a modifier set to cover all of the keybinds.
How long did she try playing before giving up?
I haven’t seen any controllers lately that aren’t the Xbox style. Would you happen to have a link for one?
I’ll say this though, everyone’s first PC MMORPG that utilizes a mouse and kb is a learning experience regardless if they came from a console gaming background or have never played a single video game in their life. And she doesn’t have to go anywhere near “one of those mice with the buttons on the side”. Just let her play at her own speed with a plain old mouse and kb starting with the default control scheme. As she’s playing she can change keybinds as she sees fit. Bending over backwards to try and get mouse and kb games playable with a controller just seems like more trouble than it’s worth.
There are plenty of threads and guides out there on how to setup an xbox controller for GW2, but I don’t have one. I did buy a logitech F310 a while back for a few other games I might try messing around with. Without having tried it I can see ground targeting and targeting in general being an issue.
Have you thought about a gaming keypad?
Making audio even potentially affect the outcome of an encounter is a bad idea since a significant portion of the player base likely plays with in-game sound off or at a reduced volume.
Simple. One build has Forceful Greatsword and the other doesn’t.
Like Kreed said, the big thing you need to be mindful of is getting used to using Poison Volley and Splitblade at point blank range. You’re wasting the skill using it at range.
A few other things.
- You might want to think about Troll Unguent as a heal. With the amount of movement you should be (and for the most part are) doing you won’t be getting as much out of Healing Spring as you would in PvP where you’re fighting on points.
- You should also consider swapping out your Sigil of Torment. At 23% crit chance you might get better mileage out of Geomancy. I tried to see how often you were applying torment and it didn’t appear to be much. Geomancy would also incentivize you to get in close for Poison Volley/Splitblade.
- It doesn’t happen often, but once in a while you appear to be throwing traps in a location where they won’t be triggered just to gain stealth/speed when the stealth and/or speed may not be necessary.
Well going with a Rabid build you’re just taking a more aggressive stance. It opens you up to be able to use Sharpened Edges and Sigils of Earth. I also use use dual Geomancy in mine, which has a certain amount of synergy with Axe #2 and Bow #2 since you get the most mileage out of them at point blank range. Dropping the vitality does leave you more susceptible to conditions, but it’s really up to you on how you want/need to build.
I’ve been playing a trap build on and off for about a month or so with Rabid, A/D + SB, Hyena/Wolf. Only Exotics, but I do alright. The 3rd utility changes based on the situation, as do the Adept and Master traits in WS.

Similarly to Eggy I’ve found that the ranger isn’t really suited to trying to land combo chains like some other professions.
Jack of all Trades would most likely be the Engineer.
I really like the beacon fire concept as an alternative to white swords. White swords isn’t as immersive, and this could both encourage scouting while adding a level of immersion.
Signal Fires should have to be constructed, but the build site would be a part of the base tower/keep. Once the signal fire has been constructed though it should automatically trigger after a certain time period once contested. Specific durations I’m not sure of, but I’m thinking shorter duration on towers and longer on keeps. Signal Fires appearing on the minimap would happen after an additional period of time has elapsed, which would be dependent on the distance of the tower/keep from your home WP. Additionally when a player with the proper traits lights the fire manually it would appear on the minimap.
Being constructed siege, signal fires could also be disabled and destroyed, and would not be able to be re-lit (in the case of destroyed) until a tower/keep is successfully defended in which case a new build site would appear.
As for placement of signal fires on towers it feels like they should be across the bridge for towers that have one. NW, SW, SE towers IIRC. This would give a purpose to the bridge having an HP bar. An attacking team could knock out the bridge removing the option to use the signal fire until the bridge is repaired. Going back to the automatic trigger of the signal fire there may have to be adjustments to the HP of the bridge so that an attacking team can knock out the bridge (with sufficient firepower, not a lone base cata) before the fire is automatically lit. Or maybe not since I’ve never actually aimed a cata at a bridge, so I have no idea what its HP pool is like. This would also give purpose to have scouts in the tower. So that if they see attackers trying to take out the bridge they have a window (albeit a small one) to light the fire.
For NE tower I’d have to say that the fire should be placed on the portion of land that is incorporated into the tower. As for the keeps and BL towers I’d have to think about the locations a bit more. If possible however the theme for towers from the home BL should be reflected in EB tower placement.
With this in mind I’d like to rewrite the player WvW Upgrades.
- Rank 1: Gain ability to light signal fires of contested structures. (Lighting the signal fire would have a cast time (1s perhaps) making it interruptable.)
- Rank 2: Reduce cost of Siege Disablers by 25%. (perhaps 50%)
- Rank 3: Reduce cost of upgrades by 25%. (perhaps 50%)
- Rank 4: Signal fires are instantly visible on the minimap.
- Rank 5: Cannons ordered will be Master Cannons.
Really not sure about Rank 5. Went back and forth on a few different ideas from summoning a Heroes Banner on successful defense, to granting a buff along the lines of 5 stacks of Applied Strength/Fortitude (would not exceed 5 stacks) on successful defense. Having Master Cannons seems to be on theme, but cannons can go down pretty fast.
When getting someone into the game who is new to mmos I would highly suggest not directing them to make a safe or easy character as their first. The most important thing is to find something they enjoy, can connect with, and works for them. The actual profession chosen is largely irrelevant.
There isn’t one.
I wouldn’t worry about PvP since changing a build doesn’t cost you anything, but PvE and WvW builds are quite different.
According to these folks D/D is THE meta for a roaming Ele.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Not sure why you’d delete your other characters.
And if you want to watch some WvW video to get a better feel for what you’d be up against try and find some unedited streams.
A side note unlike the stolen Whirling Axe, Axe #5 does not reflect projectiles last I checked.
Most likely Berserker with at least Battle. It’ll bolster the Might stacks you’ll get from blasting your Fire field. Since with a GS you’re likely Zerker based already forget about smoldering/agony/malice/bursting. One thing to think about when comparing Air/Fire to Force (or other) is that AFAIK the ticks from LB F1 can crit and trigger them.
You can use the cheaper and ever so slightly less effective version same as you would with a Stone/Oil/Crystal.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bowl_of_Poultry_and_Leek_Soup
Don’t be so rigid with your build. If you think you’d do better with Dolyak try it out and see what happens. Also try swapping it out for different stances depending on your needs. The same goes for Furious Reaction. If you you find you don’t need the Fury/Vigor and you’re short on bleed up-time it might be worth trying out Deep Cuts to maintain bleeds during GS. Not saying you’ll want or need to make these changes, but be adaptable.
Agree you def want to take Forceful GS over Opportunist. You shouldn’t need anymore Fury.
I believe Deep Cuts is in there just as much for Precise Strikes and Attack of Opportunity kitten auto.
Regarding LS vs Armored Attack and DotE you’ll have to play around with it. LS will help you land Final Thrust, but you lose a lot of base damage.
I’m partial to Slashing Power over Forceful Greatsword mostly because I’m not buying Hoelbrak runes any time soon.
As for the Sigils lose the Int. And I’d highly recommend Doom.
For food go back to the Soup.
