Ok Thx for lecture as i know it shows me the gam? a bit better… its closer to League of Legends than the standard tank/healer/dps MMORPG. now i am stuck with Engineer and Warrior. But as i read tons of forums both players ar? complaining about those classes. Is it possible to make a good suppoort warrior with Shield and som? shouts? Or Engineer that willl bring som? support?

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but the forums are where people come to complain.

Actually if you were to build a support Warrior you’d take Warhorn over Shield with the trait Quick Breathing.

@ Booxos I think you may need to read up on GW2 combat.

More specifically combat roles, since you’re not going to find a parallel in other games you’ve played.

Combat roles in GW2 are Damage, Support, and Control compared to other games like WAR (only game of those you mentioned I played extensively enough to comment on) where you have Damage, Heal, Tank.

That’s why figuring out your play style and what you like is so important. Seek out all the advice you think you need, but don’t take it as gospel and, when all’s said and done… don’t forget to have fun! (ooh, that rhymes…)

This.

Nothing beats taking the time to figure out your play style and having fun in the process. You may discover you hate both and end up playing another prof altogether.

That being said I’ve started and deleted 3 Guardians so far (only prof beating that is Mesmer with 4). My current Guardian has been sitting in some level 20-something area for the past few weeks untouched. Just goes to show different strokes for different folks. My Warrior was the second toon I got to 80 after my Engi. Still having fun with him.

The only stat like that in GW2 that I’m aware of would be Crit chance (Precision) with 100% being the cap, or 80% + Fury.

Also condi duration have cap on 100%

Yes and I’m always curious how that works against -condi duration. Say you have over 100% condi duration (rare for the most part unless we’re talking Bleeds). If your opponent has -condi duration is your condi duration beyond 100% used?

Diminishing returns on stats doesn’t exist in GW2 like in other games AFAIK. In GW2 once you get to a certain point in a stat, let’s use 3k Armor, increasing it further may have less value in the grand scheme of things, but you’re still getting increased armor. In other games there are caps where increasing a stat beyond that number will give you no increase.

The only stat like that in GW2 that I’m aware of would be Crit chance (Precision) with 100% being the cap, or 80% + Fury.

For leveling PvE Zerker with Bomb kit and a Rifle. First trait you should shoot for is probably Speedy Kits followed by Forceful Explosives. I always liked EG for champs while leveling. FT is great for tagging in events. And Rocket Boots are great for getting around faster when they work. That’ll get you into the 50’s by then (hopefully before) you should have a good handle on your preferred playstyle. Stay flexible and don’t be afraid to change things up as the situation demands.

Regarding Condi and Toughness are you asking for diminishing returns threshold? If so i’m not sure there is one/it’s up to you. As for Precision it only affects your chance to crit. YOU are the only thing that affects your chance to hit. Sigil of Earth will proc when using a kit, although Sigil of Tormenting is generally preferred.

This is your quandary as far as I can tell.

I just kind of want to play and so does she. We both don’t have the time to really sit down and read and try to figure out a whole new game. We are hoping we can just figure out by playing.

So stop wasting your time writing walls of text on the forums. Log in to the game and have some fun with your girlfriend!

There’s nothing stopping you from logging in, starting up a character, and just having fun. In fact that’s how the game was designed and meant to be played, and that’s how myself and probably most of the player base started out. If you need a specific question answered down the line that has Google or the Wiki stumped (don’t bother trying to use the forum search) please ask.

That’s the beauty of GW2. The game doesn’t “start” at max level like in WoW style MMOs so take your time leveling, exploring, crafting, doing dynamic events (don’t ignore these), PvPing, taking part in WvW, and in general learning the game as you go. The least efficient method of leveling happens to be grinding kills. How’s that for a breath of fresh air?

The only hitch to your plan will be playing separate races and hooking up in game so I’ll lay that one out for ya.

  • Whoever wants to meet up with the other go to your capital city (you start right outside it).
  • Inside there will be a portal to Lion’s Arch. Find it and Jump in.
  • Find portal to your sig other’s capital city and jump in. They’re easy to identify since standing right in front of each are members of that race.
  • Exit capital city #2 and enjoy.
Fun fact, you’re eventually going to want to do it anyway so you might as well explore all capital cities relatively early since they give you a nice chunk of exp. Unless of course you’re unsure about your race/profession choice in which case you may want to wait until you’re settled so as not to “waste” any time.

Hi, Question Please!

There are no “builds” for anything below 80 for the most part. They generally require synergies of all of the talents, sigils, runes, consumables to be a complete build.

If you love Longbow prioritize Power > Precision = Ferocity and mix in Toughness/Vitality if you need it. I can’t remember what level you start getting triple stat gear (Berserker, Valkyrie, Soldier, etc.) so just follow the aforementioned prescription.

While you’re leveling don’t worry about trying to take traits found in lvl 80 builds. Just take traits that will be most beneficial for you at that moment since they’re free to reset.

One more thing. Do yourself a favor and try as many different weapon, stat, trait, pet combinations as you can dream up. Bearbow is dreadfully boring and leveling as such generally doesn’t promote skillful play.

You can start doing dungeons at level 30 with another being added every 10 levels (until 70 where it’s more frequent), but I’m not sure if you could complete them as a trio as soon as you have access to them. As suggested maybe fill the holes with 2 pugs until you’re at a point where you feel you can trio.

The vast majority of the time I’ll be using Drake/Spider/Canine, but then again I play almost exclusively WvW so YMMV.

  • Drake’s awesome for the cleave, self heal, blast, nice balance of tank/dps. RaO with River Drake F2 will give you a nice bunch of Might.
  • Spider ranged hard hitting attack, immob, poison, highish HP.
  • Canine cripple, KD, and really solid F2s for the most part. Some people say they’re a good balance between damage and survivability, but I’ve always found they’re pretty squishy.

5 stacks of Applied Fortitude can make all the difference.

Applied Fortitude boosts Vitality, not Toughness, so you shouldn’t be hitting for any less no matter how many stacks.

Only thing I can think of is that you’re either missing gear or you have the wrong pieces/set on.

Investing that heavily into Healing Power or that deep into BM is usually not a good idea. I would probably take 2 pts from BM and put them in WS for Empathic Bond/Barkskin. Also swapping wolf for murrelow since with this build youll want to be swapping pets often, and a wolf will not survive long on the front lines. Celestial accessories may be okay. Perhaps something like this with Exuberance if its in the budget.

Well it’s largely irreplaceable in PvP only due to it being the only F1 skill that can’t miss, which syngergizes well with Cleansing Ire, and F1 provides great area denial by covering an entire point in PvP.

In PvP and WvW it’s not used nearly as often. In fact not at all for dungeon runs for the most part.

There really isn’t anything that fits your description of wanting to plan ahead and not having to react on the fly. That’s not how this game works. Its not turn-based combat. You have to actively dodge/evade and apply a buff/activate a skill to block. Not only that, but those things along with other factors will determine your offensive skill usage as well.

Full Berserkers is so that you can actually kill something while roaming and skirmishing as GS/Hammer. Naturally high armor and HP + melandru, soup, DM and CI should be enough for that. Swap in Soldier accessories for zerging as necessary.

Are you not utilizing dodges/evades properly, are you getting overloaded with condis, and/or do you just not have the support required to sustain a Warrior in a zerg?

Strength traitline is not joke.
it’s pretty good high skill ceiling offensive trait line.
except the fact that power warrior is not viable

but there are variation of meta builds that goes to strength for some nice utilities.
some hambow goes to 20606 instead of 00626
and tarcis shoutheal is 10263.

and fully defensive traited zerker build is always easier to pull off like 20606 axe/shield, w/e build

If it was a good traitline we would see a lot of players using it in spvp. Everyone is running a copy paste shoutbow…

This thread is about WvW not sPvP.

Your original build is similar to the Hammer/GS roamer meta. Only with Hoelbrak over Melandru and a lot of PVT to fatten you up for zergs which severely decreases your effectiveness in small scale fighting.

Also GS doesn’t really play well as a zerg weapon since that weapon set is more for mobility and 100B after an Earthshakers/Bulls Charge.

So here’s my input, if you must. One set of gear but two trait & utility setups. You could also swap in a few Soldier accessories for the zerg build if you have them.

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. While I know the gear you’re using is weaker I should have instructed to pick the weakest piece with the proper stat distribution.

My point wasn’t so much that your gear was too weak for 80 content, but that the stats are all over the place. And I could tell you weren’t aiming for a poor-man’s celestial.

The general advice should be something along the lines of:

  • You’ve been playing the game long enough that you should have an idea of what type of Elementalist you’d like to be.
  • Look up some guides relevant to your desired play style and/or just start experimenting with the builder.
  • Hit up the vendors/TP to outfit yourself accordingly. And scoop up any trait points you might be missing.
  • If you change your mind or simply want to try something different experiment away.

Rabid Stats

I use rabid on my ranger. It’s pretty much perfect for me since I wanted a condition/critical hit build with toughness as a 3rd stat. (Although I do use other stat combos on trinkets, particularly to get the ferocity to make critical hits worthwhile.)

I can’t imagine how Ferocity would be a good investment when your primary gear stat spread is Rabid. Unless of course you’re playing a poor-man’s Celestial build and using some Rabid while you build up enough crystals for Celestial gear.

Anything but Ele and Guardian can make good use of Rabid.

The only profs I would say that could use Rabid would be Engineer, Warrior, Necro, Ranger and Mesmer. Outside of that there’s really not much of a use for the crit. Even certain condi builds eschew crit when “bleed on crit” traits are not taken.

So that bumps the list up to Ele, Guardian, and Thief.

Shortbow, however, leans a bit farther onto the condition side of things with #1 applying Bleeds if flanking.

What might be worth doing while leveling is prioritizing Power but equipping a Condi Shortbow. Experiment with different setups and see what works.
