Anet needs to just change the MMR system back to S2\S3, look at how high the legend players are on the leaderboard #1 is 5×. S2 and S3 people were at 10x+. the old MMR system was thriving with much more life.

In season 2/3 the MM allowed for shorter queue times in legendary. Making the conclusion that S4 is less active because of how high people progress through legend division isn’t a good one. Queue times get exponentially longer as you go up in legendary divisions. If I’m not on at a certain time of day my ranked queues are 1hour+ at Legendary x3.

That is more of a population issue.

It has been proven before that it’s not a population issue. You’re getting queued with the same players because yall hit the button at the same time resulting in matchmaking choosing yall first, because it sees yall first.

This current itteration of matchmaking is a 7yo kid who just learned how to tie his shoes. Overwatch’s matchmaking has so many intricate factors that it’s eons ahead of GW2, it’s ridiculous. I’ve been asking for a smarter matchmaking systen since last year :/

I roll power ranger (which is rare since druid is almost as OP as guardians)

If your complaints are regarding 1v1, you should never lose to a DH if you’re rolling a Druid… if you are then you’re doing something very wrong.

Try grabbing a duo player and see how you fair.
Completely reverse your in game strategy and make a challenge for yourself.
Try to not die a single game. If you’re close to dying (less than 30% or 40% health) retreat to your nearest taken point and/or base.

If I feel “stuck” I definitely grab a duo or trio player for a couple games then I revert back to soloing. Keep having the same players on your team? Wait a few minutes before queing.

Only way to fix it ? make scorpion wire work the same way on thief. Then DH will compla..

Ya right, a Thief using scorpion wire is just asking for trouble lol. All Elite skills are stronger than core and shouldn’t be comparable in that way.

LB & Traps on DH vs LB & Traps on Ranger

We all want what the other has, it’s called HoT powercreep and it’ll likely never change.

As a DH player, a smaller capture point means Engi, Rev, and Ranger can no longer kite while also contesting the point. Considering the game is not entirely balanced in 1v1s, these smaller capture points make sense.

Why Making SPVP P2W?

We are discussing about a lost opportunity to grow the spvp players base with an underpolish F2P system that got a bad reputation of P2W (even if it’s just 50$) by most F2P players.

There’s no evidence of whether or not Free games would produce higher population growth over Payed or Subscription based games.

Secondly, to say the F2P aspecy of GW2 is"underpolished" is subjective. I personally think it’s doing exactly what it’s suppose to do.

If someday you are able to do Mark Parkman Abilities (mass domination) over all F2P so they know this is B2P, please do it. On the meanwhile, why can’t Anet make some little changes so SPVP can GROW out of serious F2P PVP players?

In the PvP scene, GW2 HoT is considered an entirely new game where the core game converted into a demo, practically forcing competitive players to rebuy the game when Anet literally said these Elite specs will simply be “a new way to play”.

Yea I can see why some people are infuriated. There should be two different queues for core and HoT players but we all know that’s not realistic at this point.

The reason why I quoted you was because, although I understand players frustration on Anets decision makings between HoT build’s power creep vs core builds, the game’s business model is still B2P.

Just here to give you guys your daily reminder that you’re complaining about 3 different builds.

One spams symbols, one spams traps, the other specializes in sustain and rezzes.

If you halve trap damage, you will not stop the symbol spamming build or the block/healing spamming build that (some) of you guys are complaining about. Some of you are having difficulty with some builds more than others which is probably a function of what class/build you play.

*there is also the meditrapper build which is usually used for esl that is less complained about but occasionally you will see posts saying dh tossing you in and out of test of faith is broken and does too much damage, bringing the complaints to 4 builds.

I wouldn’t be against it if they nerfed all of them.

It’s bitter sweet.

They tried it. Courtyard really didn’t work.

They gave us what we wanted, not what we needed.

Courtyard needed to incorporate rounds, a 5m time limit, and a team health measuring tool to determine tie breakers. They do that and GW2 would be better off.

No shroud is just an extra hp bar. Think of it like vitality and shroud generation as healing. mathematically, it is no comparison to druid who has the same hp regeneration as shroud regeneration. The difference is druid gets it for its actual hp and necromancer doesn’t. Furthermore, Druid can evade more than necro with more protection and damage mitigation at its disposal. This I feel is a good comparison to put necro’s weakened state into perspective.

I like comparing Necs to Wars actually. Both deal and receive damages to fill up their bars which allows them to not just be tanky, but offer higher damages overall. Thing is, Necro offers higher aoe burst potential at a cost of having no “holy crap” button in the beginning. Warriors on the other hand, hits you harder initially but their longevity is reduced.

If a necro survives initial bursts then their full bar lasts longer while Wars are basically the same facetanker throughout the fight but are single cc & dmges rather than aoe. I personally think Wars are a safer bet without Ele and/or Engi for sustain purposes.

It isn’t P2W because the reality is GW2 is not really a F2P game, it is much more like a very extended demo where you are expected to actually buy the game if you like the game enough to keep on playing.

So are the people who bought the base game playing a “very extended demo”?

The people that bought the base game, bought it at time when it was not marketed as “play for free”, it was strictly buy to play, if a buy to play game releases an expansion then I think the expectation is you pay for it and it is unlikely you will get it for free.

This in particular touched my heart.

Everyone has interesting points and I respect these views but feel there’s a bit of bias to them. Players don’t like playing with expansion players so you have that negative connotation. In its simplest form that’s the underlying root here.

I don’t agree with the PvE-pricetag tacked onto the Ascension as it’s the only PvP legendary item in the game thus far, but I wouldn’t change any of the achievements.

The additional items were kinda meant to coinside with the already existing achievements. If anything, players would either reach these achievements quicker or easier because players have more options. Anet could simply add additional achievements/rewards if they don’t like the concept.

Na man the game right now promotes button smashing. 1 vs 1 is the only way to test mechanical skill. 5 vs 5 is purely rotations and even if the players have above average skill I have seen people dueling who are way better. These good players simply don’t tourney because they have no team play or rotation skill. Pro league is all about team practice not the mechanical skill of the individual. LoL and games like it are the only games where I have seen both mechanical skill and team skill as requirements to rise to the top. When many builds can be forced with skillful gameplay we will see more mechanical skills. The meta is too narrow for that right now.

Not to be rude but i’m not entirely sure what that has to do with the above points :o

You’re talking about their lack of game sense, but I wouldn’t exactly put that label on them because they understand the game quite well. It’s more like lack of experience (for once) in their given composition compared to the contenders.

AA had 2 Ele classes for the longest time until their world was flipped upside down and rightfully so. They’re practically a new team who are not as comfortable as they were before. TCG, R55 etc have been playing with their composition a whole lot longer in comparison. Heck, these teams are using their classes optimally when it’s the complete opposite for the would-be Abjured.

I understand the 1k fee to make the Legendary, most pve Legendaries are the same so sure why not. But having the need to swap end game to get a win on another class is just a huge annoyance. Not everyone multiclass in GW2.

Some prerequisites for continuing on the Ascension path should be nulled if other requirements were met. For example (and these are just examples):

  • Maintain a 60% win rate for two tiers in a given Division.
  • Reach a 15 win streak.
  • Reach Legendary with 250 games played or less. (the average for solo players)

Items that can reward players stuck in a Division if certain requirements are met.

  • Reach a Tier with less than X number of games played.
  • Reach a Division with less than X number of games played.
  • Play at least 450 games in a season. (the dedicated should be rewarded)
  • Play at least 800 games in at least 2 seasons.
  • Split the above games into rewards i.e 50 games won automatically earns Amber rewards, 100 wins earns Ruby rewards, etc.

Overall, I feel The Ascension should have more intricate requirements while also increasing rewards for dedicated and casual players alike. If Anet are going to make Legendary division more difficult to obtain then these type of rewards are a must for players who feel that they can never earn the ultimate “end-game” title or backpiece.

The game comes with 4(?) character slots. How can you not multi class?

Ask that to Booms and a couple other players who participated in the WTS. This is not some Moba game where there’s 5 skills to mesmorize and the mechanics are simple. It’s one of the reasons why mmorpg’s pvp is crucial to balance compared to other games.

Again, not having a mesmer is not the excuse.
They lost to VM, not 55 rnk or TCG.
TCG and 55 rnk each had a mesmer specialist. But VM doesn’t have one.
The lost simply because they didn’t keep up with the EU teams in their play level.

I agree except for the last part. As you said Mesmers are good but overated, don’t need one to suceed, but if Toker was anything but a Thief they would have done lots better.

now it all about pure dmg 4v1 mainly the necro or moa ranger fast

no, you must of missed alot of the 1 vs 1 that turned into 2 vs 2. Like NL vs TCG in the kylo map. You see kitten run off to decap cap far and Rom is in a full 3 vs 3 and he leaves the fight to run to where kitten is. With a player from mid going to where rom was since that mid fight is where kitten just left from.

It had maybe 5 sec of air time before they started talking about the fight. These are huge rotations and adjustments in game for fights. There are alot of these movements happening alot and most of the people watching dont see it.

These are still the same teams from previous big events, the same players who dominated solo que and the same players who have put more time into PvP then most of us have done all game.

Literally nothing different here from previous events other then of course a new meta which IMO is the worst meta other then season 1 and maybe the D/D god era. These games are being played like chess, moving players to not only win this upcoming fight but to hold it and win the next fight and hold that point without giving anything up.

i dont say there is no tactic at all but most of fight were like this
every one start with stealth stacking
target necro and 4v1 burst
try to kill more or disengage
if you manage to kill more than wait on their respawn and kill them 1 by 1 (hot join) denial ele for example who port back but walk down and got killed
almost no comeback fights as we used to see this season (maybe only 1 or 2)
ele moving only with group so mainly druid doing rotation which where i needed to heal

yes it as fun but boring and as helseth said EASY
burst boring meta and the one who burst first mostly wins

About the stealth stacking at start, you’re unsure if whether your bursts will suceed or not so I find the plays thereafter interesting.

As for everything else, it’s pretty close to a diversified team composition. If there were more teams we’d see more Wars, Guards, etc.

I didn’t find anything particularly boring this WTS. The previous Cele Meta as a whole was 3x boring in comparison.

Is it really a bunker/bruiser meta if the game at WTS level seems to be about keeping your necro alive long enough so that he gives your enemies cancer? Not to mention, having your rev surge of the mist that kitten up.

Necro’s definitely are the exception until they generate enough life force to facetank a truck.

If you can’t deal aoe damages to 3 players consistently then you’re playing suboptimal.
If you’re getting focused then you’ll likely die quicker than a Necro.

If I feel I’m getting countered by Revs and/or Rangers I’ll switch to core burn burst guard. Other than that it’ll be more difficult to win pips compared to DH power meta.

Kervv farmed Chaith in 1v1s to always decap him (sometimes beat him outright and always force a +1) and they never had a good chance to replace someone in the fight to 1v1 a mesmer with a theif teamcomp so they were always kitten. If they replaced someone else to 1v1 kervv they lose out on their teamfight potential, and 55 always took advantage of that.

Yeah you’re really biased, fighting Mesmer for 3 games straight and dying once before switching to Lyssa/Sneak Gyro in the first game – that’s all well and good, Mesmer wins every other matchup on the comp we ran so nullifying moa, portal plays, and holding a point neut was not a bad outcome.

I don’t say that’s not true:) I had much more fun watching your team then PZ but still…I think you should consider Mesmer in your roster in this meta :/.

I hate that should be their option instead of anet just balancing the game. These matches are past them and the next point is moving forward balance wise.

Asking players to switch classes because the game is broken should not be happening. Chaith is easily a top 3 engy in the game. The idea that he should be forced to play a different class is a insult.

Serious question, whats the point of having all the classes if 1-3 will be the OP? ORNG in qualifiers had the best Guardian in the game and the best EU thief in game and they placed 4th because they are not the elite 3. kitten has proven to be the top guardian in NA and he wasnt useful at all. Magic toker is still considered by the many to be the best thief in the game along with Nos as the best necro. Yet they seem to have absolutely no effect in a match and even based on team comp might actually be hurting the team.

Would you suggest Anet or the ESL demand the players play the OP classes?

Honestly at this point, I feel Toker knew they were using an underperforming comp but kept thief anyways to prove a point. It’s not the first time either, shortly after HoT they did the same.

Toker is good but Thief obviously doesn’t work in this bunker/bruiser meta so, what can Anet do to fix this? Buff the toxic perma dodging staff builds?

Guardian: I’m going to deal 1000000000 damage to you in the span of like 2 seconds while I am invuln, blocking, healing, dodging block. block block block invulning for a good 20 seconds. Our weakest build is burn gaurd…… the WEAKest is a build that can 100-0 you in a matter of seconds while we block everything and teleport to anyone we want.

This just in, Burn Guard is new “OP Plez Nurf 100-0 class” lol….

Can’t take you seriously… Guards can block for 5 seconds on F3 + 3 second Elite + 5 seconds of F3 again.
That’s a solid 13 seconds of “invuln” but we only have 1 viable instant cast trap during that time. Where’s this OP damages during invulns again???

Unless you have 2 warriors or some other condi+cc at mid, it can be difficult winning mid fight with two rangers. Especially if it’s Foefire’s mid.

I’m willing to bet mid fight sustained itself for a long time. Long enough for at least 1 person to leave, decap a point, and return. As a War I would have gone far at start then glued myself to a ranger rest of match…but just saying that doesn’t do justice because strats evolve throughout the game.

Shadowsteps are not teleports, it’s more like a very fast movement speed from point A to point B. It follows the ground amd therefore can cross effects like ToF.

Meta is Balanced - Except for Guards

Guards are at an unfair advantage this S4.

Matchmaking isn’t smart enough to allocate the surplus of would-be-Ele-players turned Guardian. I’ve seen 100% soloQ Guards stacked on the same team cause matchmaking had a brain fart.

If there was a single DH per team, the threads would be a lot different. In the upper tiers, Guards really only need a minor shave among other class specific nerfs (looks at Ranger & Rev) while in the lower tiers, we’re having obvious extremes that’s not seen in the pro leagues.

Then again, Anet are going by this chart:
Rev, Engi, Ranger > DH
DH > War, Necro, Mesmer

War, Necro, Mesmer, > Rev, Ranger (typically)
Ele/thief are meh atm.

Ele/Thief don’t really fit in any rock, paper, scissors combo. Thief is the Wild card that sometimes work and Ele are Jokers.

If you are actually better than 70% of the players, you will on average be matched with players who are worse. That means once you find a 50% win ratio spot, you will be doing most of the work for your team.

The first paragraph is right, but this part is incorrect. If you’re better than 70% of the players, you will on average be matched with other players that are also better than 70% of the players.

As you wait in the queue, matchmaking widens the acceptable range of players for you to play with (so you’d be matched with people in the 65% – 75% range, then 60 – 80%, then 55-85%, until there are enough players for a match). Once 10 people are found, those players are arranged such that the average rating of each team is as close to even as it can be.

As a 70% player, it’s certainly possible that you’ll play with 71% – 100% players, in which case they’ll be the ones carrying you.

The monkey wrench is with ranked queues, where matchmaking also takes your division/tier into consideration in a similar way.

I feel this is either wrong, or there’s so many outlying variabled involved that makes this very inaccurate.

I know first hand that I was on an 11 win streak at Diamond, only to get back on a 50% win rate at the last tier. For one reason or another, I had players who really weren’t all that great and their game play showed. When I was on the win streak I was playing with average players. Off the win streak, I was going against duo/trio esl players and my teamates were… well, they couldn’t beat their counters :/

I lean towards SneakyTouchy because like an ISP who says you’ll get 50megs down, in the real world it’s more like 40megs. In other words you may be right but that’s not what we’re seeing in Ranked soloQ.

SOLO queue is unplayable

It’s completely possible to solo queue to legend. I went 71-23 this season to go on into legend solo queue only. I know a bunch of other players who have solo queued into legendary. It’s not hard.

Well, it can be hard when you go on a 11 soloQ win streak in Diamond so Matchmakimg thinks you’re some kind of God and deliberately places you in pooor comps. It took me (no lie) 40+ games to get out of that last tier. It became a 50/50 win chance and I kept getting tail flips.

I had to duo queue that last bit of games.

Since sPvP is a MOBA, let’s do like them to bring more players in.

Guild Wars 2 isn’t a MOBA; it’s an MMORPG.

Gw2 pve is a MMORPG.

Gw2 spvp is completely defined by this: Multiplayer Online Battle Arena.

Halo, Call of Duty, CS:GO are all Multiplayer Battle Arenas. No one calls them a Moba because there’s specific aspects in moba games that seperates them from other sandbox pvp games.

Thank you for the spin. I never said they were separate games, I said that a portion of the game(PvP) is pay-to-win thanks to the expansion. If anything, denying that you have to pay to get access to elite builds that make it easier to win is the real make-believe.

Elite specializations are part of the expansion regardless as to whether or not they are used in PvP, and the expansion is buy-to-play. Misconstrue the facts all you’d like, but that’ll never make your false opinion anything more than make-believe.

Pay-to-win means you have to buy to play in order to win. I don’t reject the fact that you have to pay to buy the expansion to play it, I reject the statement that the whole of the expansion is “buy-to-play” when there is evidence to the contrary in PvP where you have to PAY to WIN.

That’s a bit wrong.

Pay to Win means you have to pay multiple times in order to be better than everyone else. This usually comes in forms of in-game micro transactions like buying potions, boosts, gear, etc.

Buy to play is paying once and not having to pay ever again.
This is a buy to play game regardless of core classes playing along side of elite players.

I don’t agree with Anet’s design philosophy, we were promised everything being on even footing, but the game is still B2P per its definition.

There’s a whole lot more toxic communities out there, GW2 is a breath of fresh air in comparison :p

As much as I would love a new wardrobe, what you’re suggesting isn’t very realistic. In part that your suggestion would have to be a ‘voting’ system for any one player to receive acknowledgement that they “helped” another player. That type system can be easily abused by friends and large guilds.

Apart from the competitive aspect and complaints that comes with, I have yet to see a player not receive help when asked. I think that’s something this community does really well in.

I think mechanics themselves are fine. Problems lie in too much AoE everything, too short cast times, too passive traits etc. Basically the game needs a nerf in all skills and traits as it is too much reward for little risk for everyone now.

I know every MMORPG games are filled with passives and channeling skills but what if we had a Smite moba type firing mechanic instead of an automatic targeting system? In essence, every attack and ability is a skillshot.

Auto attack brings up an arrow icon on screen if you’re projectiles, a slash icon for swords, bash icon for maces, etc. All aimed with your mouse. You point where you fire and you point where you want to slash. Basically DH LB#3.

Mechanically changing every skill and trait in the game (especially static abilities like traps, symbols, etc) is huge but nothing that an expansion budget can’t bring.

The combat in GW2 is great for its time but I think a more skillful style of play is what most players are looking for now.

They could reintroduce the cele amulet into PvP. Its afterall what ele is best at. Maybe give it a slight stat shave if it turns out too strong or too stally.

Ele doesn’t need Celestial amulet to be viable. He just needs a buff.

I somewhat admire Anet for trying to get rid of the jack-of-all-trades but Ele mechanical skills are exactly that. They play just like Engi except more mobile. Being more mobile used to mean more sustains but Guardian has a bow now. They can’t out run us anymore.

Anet may need to go back to the drawing board for Ele, just like how they did with War & Thief (to a degree) when HoT released.

Neither does comparing cross class, if you find that necro skill underpower, then state improvement. If you find LB3 OP, then state it truthfully what part is OP rather than “one skill that killed every enemy on map and unblockable and can’t avoid”.

Define the word balance. If you’re not comparing what is your method of balance? If you’re not comparing or examining the whole, how are you balancing. How do you balance something without another thing as a counterweight.

To make your argument worse you’re even comparing their weaponry which are completely different. You express these two very wrong points in a way that makes this thread laughable, instead of what could have been a reasonable post.

Then nobody can make the claim a class is underpowered or overpwered. Claiming something is underpowered is claiming it is inferior to something else, yet people do it all the time.

It’s still buy to play like most MMORPGs that offer Xpacks. What’s confusing is that (metaphorically) Anet is allowing lvl 85 to play along side lvl 80’s in PvP, in comparison. Of course you’re at a disadvantage, but the game is still not p2w.
@ JT If you still haven’t saved up since their first HoT announcement then you probably have bigger issues at hand.

In that regards, Anet’s personal agenda in wanting E-sports doesn’t mean we’re entitled to a free game, nor does it change the reason how this game isn’t B2P. There may be a hundred and 1 reasons as to why we disagree with Anet’s decision making, but the game and Xpansion, by definition, is B2P.

Tone Down Revive

We’re going to test around 3000 units. That’s a little less than mid to side nodes on most maps.

Seems too far to make any difference at all, I can’t remember the last time I got rallied from an entire node away. 1200-1500 units would be better imo.

Thing is, if a player who got stomped out was a direct cause of an enemy player getting killed off point, that downed player should get rewarded.

Currently the distance is so far away that it’s just silly to rally randomly when players have no idea why. Honestly, it’s not so much the distance as it is just how the “damage threshold” happens when attacking another player.

It should be, if a player makes another waste their 3 utilities and/or a 20% dmg dealt to that player, he’s able to rally from him.
When player is no longer in combat, it resets.
When player gains back his utilities and/or 30% health gained back from other player, it resets.

That’s really the best route to take, instead of a “I hit entire team once, 1 died so I rallied”.
