Sorry but the ‘some of you’ that have become quite good at dungeons are not going to keep ArenaNet in the black my friend.

CJ said a while ago that the amount of players logging on is steadily rising.

Take what you will from that.

Absolutely, I am one of those that returned. When they start making announcements of new content like they have lately, the population will always rise. I just get reminded of the horrendous dungeon encounters, lack of defined class roles and look towards ESO. I’d love to stay and call this MMO my home, it does some things very, very well. It completely lacks in the overall pve basics though.

I must admit it really is one of the best looking MMOs out there, the art and design department really nailed it.

3 Dungeons

Where should I start, no strategies hope for the best, I’m really happy about no trinity required but seriously your dungeons are one the worst I have been playing since the last 15 years of my MMO’s experience. Don’t get me wrong they are beautiful but the mechanics is just horrible, doesn’t matter if you are a glass canon or full tank/healer certain boss just one shoot you this is just ridiculous. Also if you are no a warrior/guardian or mesmer good luck to find a group, on my warrior I can find a group in matter of second, with the rest of my char that is an other story.

You are wrong and correct in the one paragraph. Put some thought into why the encounter mechanics are ‘just horrible’, why certain bosses one shot you. I can tell you the answer and it is the lack of the basic trinity threat/heal mechanics by designated classes. I stopped playing the game after the first month (and I don’t believe I was Robinson Crusoe in that regards), I have since returned almost a week ago and I am no reminded – after just one week – why I left. It is because of what you have said here. That and lack of structured classes.

If ArenaNet reverted on their original ‘no trinity’ concept, redesigned their classes with the trinity in mind, obviously brought threat mechanics back into the game – I honestly believe this game would be outstanding. Its a pity they messed up that whole no trinity thing. Sounded great pre release but fails in execution.

In other MMO based forums I see the same thing over and over. The lack of trinity hurt GW2.

If Anet did that, a ton of us, including me, would leave. We play this game because we aren’t necessarily pigeonholed into those roles. You haven’t found the strategies, it doesn’t mean they’re not there. You come from another game and try to play that game within this game. Shrugs. Your loss.

Some of us have become quite good at doing most of the dungeons. Just the people that can’t adapt that love to whine.

I think you’ll find that the numbers that play the game ‘now’ compared to release are massively different. That ‘ton’ you refer to has already left. I understand that people like it but I can tell many more don’t. The funny thing is the first thing people say about the trinity is that they whine about ‘LF Tank or LF Healer’ yet now it has become even more difficult to get a group simply because of the mess dungeons are – and yes they’re a mess, the only people that go are the experienced players that put up with it. Even the OP who states he has many high level classes and has obviously played the game as long if not longer than you admits to the dungeon mechanics being bad. He also mentions the difficulty in getting a group. Sorry but the ‘some of you’ that have become quite good at dungeons are not going to keep ArenaNet in the black my friend.

paying attention fine, but leaving newer players to simply spend most of their time dead and not learning the fights now is discouraging to them. and the odd time there is lag on some fights where you just happen to get killed, now you cant get back to help the team. fights still required coordination before , what this has done is made some dungeons a lot less fun.

it is just bad psychology for game programming.

So take 10 seconds of your time to greet players and ask if they are new If they are then take another 10 seconds to type some quick instructions.

Yeah, I know, it means communicating and being polite. Probably wouldn’t hurt in an MMO for a change don’t you think?

Absolutely agree. Lets face it, the MMO community is big on competitiveness, they love seeing their names up in lights and why shouldn’t they? The players that aren’t interested in this won’t have to even look at it but I’d imagine those that are will strike a nice little rivalry with each other. Benefits for ArenaNet is that it will draw a good portion of players back to the game and keep them there.

Personally I’d like to see this and some other ‘pve’ leaderboards. As for me, I wouldn’t even rate in the top 500,000 let alone 1,000 so its not as though I’d benefit at all, I just like seeing the rivalry and seeing some of the numbers that people hit.

Why change dye from account to character only?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Salt.4621

It is a very boring idea for long term play because once you’ve unlocked the palettes on your first character, it become a useless game feature forever.

There’s nearly 400 dyes, aren’t there? With some being more rare than others. I’m just curious how close anyone is to unlocking them all.

Do you need to unlock them all? I mean at the end of the day there are some dyes that are barely distinguishable from each other once applied to armor or clothing.

I am fine with the dyes being character based, its a long term game. It seems that some players want every dye unlocked for all of their characters within a few weeks. Who cares if it takes 3 years or 3 weeks?

Dyes are also craftable, so having them character bound is going to add some long term viability for crafters making some coin out selling dyes. If it were account bound, the dyes, no matter how rare they were would eventually and very quickly become worthless.

i am serious. If you play this game expecting dungeons will be worth it later on, you may as well just go back to wow.

Now you mention it, the new Challenge Mode in WoW looks really good. I’d be happy to pay just for that feature alone. Timed dungeons, leaderboards, set gear (as in you can’t gear your way through the dungeon). And something Guild Wars 2 lacks in spades, some sort of organised structure to combat rather than some zergy ‘look at me ima dps’ mess.

Again some great ideas. I like it. Using the gods they worship and traits is a nice idea also. They both seem a little pointless in the game (from my experience so far), adding them into the combat mechanics seems like a great suggestion.

As far as WoW goes, there are many features of that game that Blizzard do very well, you’d be foolish to think otherwise. Dungeon and Raid encounters is one of them that stands out. There is no harm in taking something that a developer has done previously and expand on it, almost all developers do it.

It is much better for the economy if they are character bound.

Yet again, players wanting everything an MMO has to offer within a few weeks. I’m not convinced that a lot of players understand what is involved in playing an MMO these days. There are many instant gratification games out there on consoles, play them but leave my long term MMO games alone thank you. They are an investment into a world, not an achieve everything in two weeks deal.

You’re missing the whole point. You folks are talking like the dyes and collecting them IS the game. It’s one single feature of a huge game with multiple options for what you’d like to be doing.

I don’t personally find amusement in collecting a palette of dyes that are in most any game (Many MMO’s give you a dye palette during creation, the difference in this game is that you can dye ‘on the fly’.) or being required to use my in-game currency or real life cash to purchase more storage to hold all of them because the system was poorly thought out.

I find enjoyment by running multiple characters at once and crafting and building up all of them at around the same level instead of rushing to end-game content.

If I ever make it to end-game without actually burning out, then I’ve seen the sights and sounds from numerous viewpoints and have a working knowledge of how many of the classes/professions/what-have-you work so as to know how they can function better together. (I played LOTRO for a paid year and did all of the crafting guilds at once, I burnt out 9 months in and only got to late 30’s on one character…but I enjoyed every minute of that process.)

Quit lumping us all into the same mold.

And I could say that you are missing the whole point. You are talking like the dyes and using them IS the game. It’s one single feature of a huge game with multiple options for what you’d like to be doing.

See what I changed there?

There’s plenty of challenge, unless you’re intent on “I’m class X therefore I will do Y”. The moment you do that, you turn GW2 into every other MMO with cookie cutter builds. My guild is currently having a debate about getting the right builds for dungeons. It has nothing whatsoever to do with classes.

Whilst your argument is both reasoned & reasonable, it’s also a dead-letter. This game was not designed in the same way as “all the other” MMO’s, and it won’t be re-designed because you find it shallow & mundane. Just the same as there won’t be mounts, just the same as level scaling won’t be removed, just because a minority of players don’t like it. Not wishing in the least to be nasty, but if you don’t like the style of game, there are plenty of others better suited, as has been suggested. There’s only one game like GW2…

I know that they won’t change the combat mechanics. There isn’t a snowflakes chance in hell of that happening but to be honest if I could only suggest one thing, thats what it would be. By giving the classes defined roles or builds, it goes some way to helping fix the unispiring boss mechanics and zerg mentality gameplay, two of the biggest factors that really kill what is otherwise a great game.

For me, the game is a bit of a let down and I’ve got to say that I have blown ArenaNets trumpet for months honestly believing that this game was going to redefine MMOs going forward. After the first week I thought I was correct, by the end of the second week I had my doubts, the gameplay is just too incredibly shallow. If the game has achieved one thing, it has helped me understand why the trinity is in MMO’s in the first place. I’m not saying MMOs should be that way for the rest of time, I’d love to see the trinity get over hauled and or dramatically expanded on. I thought GW2 was going to do it, it hasn’t.

Unfortunately I choose to buy Mists of Pandaria and will continue to play WoW. I say unfortuantely because I, like many other players that have played WoW, was looking to move on.

The biggest let down for me is the lack of any structure to playing classes. Having a defined role in an MMO allows easier design and most importantly interesting mechanics. No threat control and every class basically doing the same thing, Dodge, DPS and Heal yourself, gets old really quickly. There really is little difference to classes, they’re either basically melee or ranged, thats it.

It is a shame because ArenaNet have put a lot of work into the game and it shows. Unfortunately losing the Trinity wasn’t as good as it appeared to be on paper.

When I first read about Guild Wars 2 years ago I was truly excited to see the abandonment of the ‘Holy Trinity’, after experiencing GW2 for the last couple of weeks I am not convinced that they’ve nailed it. Infact I find myself wishing that defined class roles were in place to make the combat less mundane.

Threat management and balancing it was an artform before it was dumbed down considerably in many MMOs.

The art of ‘pulling’, CCing mobs and intellingent and structured support was also an artform before it was dumbed down in many MMOs.

Healing was also something that truly defined a player in their role.

DPS, intelligent players that can manage threat and know when to switch to support when required.

I’m sorry to say this but I have to admit I find the pve combat in GW2 very much a disorganised zerg with little if any thought put into playing. Its a shame because the structure of the classes is quite good, the world is incredibly beautiful and well fleshed out and I really want to keep playing it. I’d like to see good players stand out a lot more than they do at present, being exceptional at their role allows them to do just that.

It would be a massive over haul but I would love to see each class having different builds allowing them to fill the roles we are used to in MMOs. I can only speak for myself but I find that gameplay more rewarding.

I agree with the repetition in cities or areas where players would gather. ie Crafting stations, banks.

The repetitive cheering you can hear when crafting in Divinitys Reach drives me nuts after a while. Also crafting in Claypool, Queensdale with the NPC saying, “Hold… Hold… Hold… Fire!” every 10 seconds. Sometimes I’d wish they’d turn and fire on him instead.

Maybe in future cities could add a little more randomness in crafting areas? Or a little less repetitiveness.

Does Rift have lockout timers? Because I know that WoW, Aion, LOTRO, EQ2, etc all have them. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t as far as I am aware. This has to be taken into consideration.

The only thing I ever ‘grinded’ for in an MMO was my Warsong Gulch Battleground Justicar title. It took me about two years and I enjoyed every moment in finally achieving the title. Two years of fun, playing when I wanted to and when I felt like it. Not playing it non stop every single waking moment using the mathematically fastest way possible to achieve the title and hating every moment I spent doing it. There is a massive difference between the two methods I have mentioned here.

Would you prefer ArenaNet put a lock out timer on their dungeons like every other MMO in existence? Your whining is the most pathetic thing I have seen all week.

Yes, yes I would.

Lockout timers were a fantastic implementation when they were originally introduced. From a dynamic standpoint of controlling the player-base and economy to a business strategy for keeping players playing your game longer.

They might of got a little out of hand with the amount of dungeons that got implemented in WoW. But the core reasoning for using lockouts is to control everything in the end game.

And to keep the players around playing the game.

So what the kitten are you complaining about? Glancing through all the rage in your posts you seem upset that ArenaNet have placed a diminishing return on running the same dungeon over and over. Yet you support a one dungeon run lockout (as would I to be honest). You really need some help. Tell me again in one sentence what you are raging about. One sentence, not a friggin wall of rage.

DR is not the same thing as a Lockout.

A Lockout says “You can run this 5 times a day”

So you do your 5 runs of CoF, then you go do 5 runs of CoE, then you go do 5 runs of Arah.

You are now getting players to play all your different content. As well, the 30 hour grind to get Flame Legion gear or any gear for that matter is extended to 18 days of play time that you are maintaining a customer for.

On top of that you hook the customer which then has them saying “yes I got my new piece man I just need one more…4 more days to go.” vs “Sweet one more piece that’s only 2 hours to go.”

Dude, you say you’re going to MoP instead. You realise that if they copied WoW and added lockouts event bosses would be roughly normal mode WoW dungeons and remain unlimited. You’d get 1 run per day for story mode and since explorable modes are the GW2 raids, those would be on a 1 week reset.

Glad I am not the only one that noticed this.

I think the game fundamentally has many, many good things about it. I have played a lot of MMOs and they change dramatically over time with fixes and updates, etc. I just wish players these days would unwad their underwear and relax a little.

Rush.

I find I go past the target and hit nothing even if the target is stationary when I rush. I play in Australia so the latency must obviously be a factor but still, I have played WoW for a long time and my warriors rush always connects and does damage.

The greatsword ability Rush is kind of buggy. You often overshoot your target and attack empty air.
This happens when a mob runs toward you and you rush at the same time.
The ability also has poor fluidity; run up, pause, attack. It seems to have some animation issues, especially when using it if you’re pretty close to your target.

THIS!

Just started playing a warrior and I have tested it on a single target around 20 times. Every single time I use the two handed sword ‘Rush’ skill I rush to the opposite side of the target and swing at nothing. Looking at the combat log the attack never hits for any damage at all.. Shouldn’t I rush to the side of the target I am facing and hit it? Not past the target.

Please fix this!

Look like someone got a 72 hour ban! Did you learn from it Adzy? Or are you still angry and likely to resort to unclean angst filled vileness?
