My issue with taunt is that it kills any illusion the enemy is intelligent at all.
I’ll keep banging way on this guy, even though he’s not taking damage, and even though I’m a super intelligent demon from the abyss, I have no idea healers exist or someone is keeping him alive.
It’s just too contrived for my taste.
I always have to laugh when people in a trinity game say they want a better Monster AI since i know that they don’t really want that because any AI would kill the trinity.
If a monster is intelligent it would ignore the low damage tank, and first kill maybe the healer or the squishy DDs.
I’d very much disagree. Taunting works on human players all of the time. I played WoW for years and in every single BG I played I’d often simply /laugh at someone (usually rogues) when my ret pally was OP’d and smashing anything that moved. 9 times out 10 that player made a bee line for me every single time in sheer frustration and annoyance over a simple emote. Out healers loved it. The other 10% didn’t fall for it but boy does emote tanking work. Its a taunt. It works on human players a lot. I’ve had players log out, log into my realm a some level 1 character and abuse me in typical WoW fashion. “F%$$%#g scrub, blah, blah, blah, rage, rage” all over a /laugh or a /mock. Music to my ears!
It would be a better game.
For WvW it would encourage fighting rather than fleeing.
For PvE it would encourage content that requires teamwork instead of smacking your facea gainst the keyboard
I logged on just to up vote this post. ArenaNet tried something different with no trinity and to be honest it failed, pve combat is a boring zerg mess and wvw is zerg and run away. No class structure and no roles. Its such a shame because GW2 is hands down one of the best looking MMOs in terms of polish and art design, pity the gameplay is garbage.
That income stream is quite low for an MMO. Come March 2014 with 3 huge online RPG titles set to release; Arenanet better have a Hail Mary.
what 3 huge titles is that?
1. Wildstar
2. EQ Next
3. ESOEQN is probably a little further off, but the other two are both set to launch by spring 2014.
EQ Next may be late 2014 perhaps early 2015 but EQN Landmark will likely be here before both Wildstar and ESO. In fact you could add EQ Next Landmark to the 3 listed to make it 4. ArenaNet better have a Hail Mary set up for 2014, that’s for sure.
Theres also the western release of Blade and Soul….. if anyone is still interested in that game. Yeah.
I’m quite sure Wildstar won’t be too successful. Its got nothing to really sell itself on, its a nice traditional MMO but, its pretty much WoW-in-space, down to the graphics. Its competing right on WoW’s own turf, which never ends well.
ESO is a bit iffy. Its certainly unique, but we don’t really know what the endgame’s going to be like.
EQN is promising a lot. If it can deliver on that, we got a hell of a MMO.
Well Zenimax Online aren’t going to have a lot of work to do with ESO beating the end game of GW2 that’s for sure.
No zerg to hide behind which is the usual gameplay style in GW2, 20 deaths with repairs mainly due to some lone guy running past with a train of mobs and 20 waypoint return costs and that’s it for me. Game is uninstalled and completely removed for good. This content was the final nail in a coffin that should have been nailed shut months ago (but I kept giving it a chance). The absolute worst game design I have experienced in what really is an average game at best anyway while I wait for another MMO. Kiss my kitten ArenaNet.
I just bought my armor and weapon skins from the cash shop, I’m happy with them and won’t be replacing them so therefore I have won the game as there is nothing else to do. Thankyou cash shop! No I’ll patiently wait for a real MMO, ESO or EQ Next.
Both have not been released. Both are going through exactly the same hype as GW2 did before release.
That being said, I don’t see why GW2 must have an answer to the Draenor expansion WoW just announced. We’re consistently getting new content. They’re one year out. There’s no need for any sort of expansion right now, even if they intended to roll one out at some point.
It’s not World of Warcraft that they need an answer for its Elder Scrolls Online and EQ Next. Both have combat systems that will be familiar to GW2 players, both are next gen MMOs, both have huge budgets behind them and with that, expectation to succeed, both are from established and incredibly popular franchises.
Exactly, and they get to learn from the mistakes GW2 has made. At to be fair to ArenaNet, learn from what has been successful.

This is why you should never let pugs open an instance.
None of my guild rarely bother playing, what next?
Without question. Guild Wars 2 greatest feat is its art, animations and stunning scenery, there is no debate there. Its the rest of the game play and game design that’s the problem and unfortunately for ArenaNet that’s a pretty big problem to have.
Housing will keep you busy for what? A few hours at most. Then back to the AMUSE ME bandwagon.
That’s completely up to the player. It will obviously keep you busy for a few hours, but you are not me thanks.
Yes. Add a really in depth Housing / Home instance system to the game with plenty of collectables (trophies, achievement statues and items, crafting items, etc) The grind to get a legendary is huge, armor collection is pointless because you can simply buy a skin that you’re happy with and that’s game over in that department (with cash shop items giving absolutely zero satisfaction because you don’t actually have to play the game at all). So basically once you’ve bought your skins what exactly is there to do? I’m at a loss.
On the plus side we get to live in Australia while the others don’t. Only works if you go outside though so MMO forums aren’t probably the best place to brag about such things.
I’m honestly not being rude but what on earth is ‘living’ about it? Its stagnant from what I have seen. Banging signs into the ground, then they disappear so you do it all again the next day? Following a zerg train around a map over and over and over and over and over while auto attacking some random boss or champion you can’t really make out in a sea of players to open some ridiculous chest with Random gear in it is what I have come to expect from Guild Wars 2. It is boring! I think ArenaNet really to to rethink the entire premise and put some more thought into an actual ‘living’ world if they want to call it that and give us some actual class roles to play thanks! God I miss the trinity after playing this game.
More voice emotes also, I fondly remember the days of all standing in the tunnel waiting for the gates to drop for an Alterac Valley BG in WoW and some clown drops a train track set causing everyone to spam emote /train. Those male gnomes always had the final say as their emote sound went marginally longer than everyone else. Good times!
Each dungeon has an armor/weapon set specific to that dungeon, explorable zones should too.
Discuss.
Sorry but armor sets are only purchased through the cash shops, well any that are remotely good that is. Surely you don’t expect to be rewarded with the best gear in game by actually playing it?
All the Captains hang out in that bar….Crow’s Nest, I think it is.
Indeed, doesn’t look like she’s doing much there though. ;p
But, but, this is a living world! Surely she just can’t be standing in the corner somewhere can she?
$60, for the game itself. I have proudly not used a single dollar to buy gems, and I don’t intend ever to do so.
I’ve paid my money for this game, stop telling me to “support it”, defending crappy RNG practices and overpriced goods.
I’m not criticizing GW2 itself, this game is AWESOME! But the monetization….
Unless anything has changed since they introduced Black Lion Ticket Scraps, they are one of the most unethical business practices I’ve ever seen in the gemstore. Their drop rate are so low, the intention isn’t to give us a fair chance, but rather their sheer existence is to trap people into opening more chests, pressuring them to gamble even more with hopes of collecting 10 scraps.
And then they actually expect some people to collect 7 Black Lion Tickets? For a single weapon skin? Really? How much does that equate in USD? Seriously, I’m asking the question. Someone calculate how much USD on average it costs to collect 7 tickets, then tell me if you’re willing to spend that much money.
Look, the GW2 playerbase could spend their money on whatever they want, but I don’t intend to do so because the monetization is absolutely horrendous. Even if we could play the game without this gemstore crud, it’s still like taking a dump on someone’s birthday cake. Sure, they could try to eat the pieces of the cake without feces on it, but who would want to eat such a thing?
Placing an ugly person next to a nice person doesn’t make the nice person look better by contrast. It just makes both of them look ugly.
I really wish the monetization would stop killing GW2’s reputation.
I can tell you one thing. Paying $10-$15 per month for a subscription fee and earning every armor set and weapon skin that exists in the game by actually playing the game is far, far cheaper than the system that these cash shop games employ. Even if you can straight up purchase the armor skin or weapon skin without gambling your money, where is the sense of accomplishment? I am personally looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online and the fact that it is a subscription game with no cash shop (outside of game services, ie NOT gear) is one reason I am really looking forward to it.
Welcome to buy to play and or free to play MMOs. That’s how it is, like it or not it will not change.
Yes I have lost count of the amount of times I have gone to weapon swap (shift middle mouse) and dodge rolled off a cliff to my death (middle mouse).
I play with myself mainly on weekends.
I’d tell them to start again and this time with a trinity and defined class roles implemented.
Hardest would be Warrior and then probably Ranger.
This is why (or one of the reasons) I don’t like the elitist community in this game and won’t continue to play it. I have never done a fractal because I am honest and say I haven’t run one before, I normally don’t even get a reply in return … nothing. I’ll play ESO when it comes out instead.
I just salvaged one rare and got one ecto so that’s 100%. Not sure what the problem is or why people are complaining.
The length of the animation and the fact that you can not cancel it is annoying. 3 swings is normally attributed to Mining and Lumber because you receive the materials this way. 3 swings whilst harvesting to receive 1 item is clearly wrong.
And again, you can not interrupt this process.
Please address this issue.
Its just pure and utter laziness, nothing else. Then they charge you money for it?! If players let developers get away with this sort of crap then I its just sad.
I bought the pick and would have also bought the sickle until I saw the animation.
I DO NOT purchase lazy ArenaNet!
EVER!
I am disapppoint!
I prefer a subscription based model. I just believe that everything in game should be acquired by ‘playing’ the game not purchasing it. Quite often with f2p or b2p games there are benefits handed to players that use the cash shop, whether that’s unique (and quite often the best looking) gear, mounts, etc or it may be more bank space, bag slots, character slots, etc (which actually turn out to be required in most cases). A sub based game also has an obligation to produce well designed and meaningful content at a reasonable rate or risk losing their subscribers.
At the end of the day a sub based game at $15 is approximately 0.48 cents per day, I’d love to see another source of entertainment that is comparable in terms of value for money. There aren’t any.
I just bought everything using rl money and I hardly play more than a few hours a week. Couldn’t be any more casual than the most casual of casuals.
/end thread
Welcome to MMO’s.
Haha. That’s actually why I quit WoW, I got very mad at how much of my limited time and effort had gone down the drain after all the expansions. Was maybe thinking GW2 would be different.
You’re looking at gaming, yes ‘gaming’ in general completely wrong. Its a source of entertainment, nothing more. Sorry to break the news but no matter which game you play or how ever many hours you put into it, it will come to an end at some point. Never mind about expansions, you will come to a point where you will stop playing GW2 altogether and move on to something else. So whats the difference?
As long as you are enjoying the experience while you are playing and are entertained then thats all you need to worry yourself about. This isn’t an opinion, its a fact.
Yes, Sea of Sorrows was the ‘unofficial’ Oceanic server.
The biggest flaw in this game and its one that will never get fixed is the lack of class structure and trinity. That’s its biggest problem.
I am extremely offended and disappointed with what I am seeing here. My friend, who happens to have a female Asura, put on their new armor set. I viewed the set on the Asura and my Norn was nothing but ashamed. There is BLATANT NUDITY with this armor set and most likely some others due to negligence on Arena Net’s part. Last I checked, there was no full on nudity warnings with Guild War 2’s ESRB rating and I demand that something be done. Not for my sake, but for the community. This could also be considered degrading to females because it forces female Asura to wear male Asura clothing, as to say that they have no choice in the matter, even if it does cause nudity. I’m disappointed Arena Net, I had more faith in you. You had my trust, but it’s starting to slip. I think it’s time to step up your game.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I do not play an Asura so I wasn’t aware of this blatant and vile smear against female Asuran’s and players of Guild Wars 2 in general.
I am done with this game until this is fixed or at the very least floral tassles are applied.
Disgusted!
No! The game is hard enough as it is already. Have you tried the new Southsun content, I get killed repeatedly and its not fun. I die in most if not all of the dungeons, stupid jumping puzzles and also in pvp all of the time! It is not fun and I am afraid that more posts like this that encourage harder content may drive me away further.

Every subscription based MMO was overcharging.
This.
WoW for example charges 10 pound approximately per month per subscriber.
With lets say an average of 10 million plus subs for just a year thats a income of 100 million pounds – MONTHLY.
Now take into consideration they have at least 4-5 years with that kind of sub number or more…
And the inital cost of development (supposedly) was around 60 million. Now you see how overpriced that game really was.
What an absolute load of garbage. Try looking at it from a point that matters … yourself.
$15 per month is approximately 0.48 cents per day. If you are playing and enjoying an MMO you may spend 3+ hours per day playing it, although many people here would play an MMO a lot more than that. Even at 3 hours per day for a form of entertainment, which is exactly what a game is, it equates to around 0.16 per hour. I’d love to see your thoughts on an entertainment activity that is even remotely comparable in terms of value for your money.
The initial game purchase + $50, $20, $20 and $10 = the game plus $100 AU
Add more clones, pets and vanishes to pvp, the game needs more.
There are literally hundreds of ranked computer games that shows player behaviour. Yet developer STILL implement leaderboards without taking into consideration of players that will abuse mechanics.
It completely amazes me that professional developers cannot see the problems before they arise, players can but developers can’t. Really? sPvP just becomes yet another game system that I won’t bother participating in.
Bring on Elder Scrolls Online and hope that their developers have some sort of clue.
That ad is rad!
Good golly. Anet just can’t seem to please people at all, can they? I found the new content an absolute blast. I had a party of two people, we made it to zone three on regular mode(and has a good laugh at our “continue” screen, hah!) It’s a fun new feature.
Fun. You know, what playing games is about? For those of you who don’t like it, it’s a free gift. You don’t have to play it.
How do you get past the 5 player requirement to unlock gates? Is there a way of jumping over to the next portion?
I think your character should have been transformed into an 8 bit sprite based on their race, that would have been a nice touch.
You both must be a hit with the ladies irl.
Congratulations! I guess.
I enjoy it more than the games dungeons.
I HATE dungeons, but honestly I’d rather have dungeons than this. At least high end pve fits into an mmo.
We could argue the definition of the term ‘MMO’ until the cows come home. In case you are unware, the MMO genre has changed dramatically over the years and will change even more so in the next decade. You seem to be clinging on to the past and can’t or won’t accept change.
I really hate this Stupid Adventure Box. I play this game for an MMO experience. This is just pandering to the social media crowd. What does this have to do with Guild Wars?
Whether or not this is fun is beside the point. They should be using that time to improve the game, not adding side games which serve no purpose to furthering the Guild Wars game. This is just another time waster. If I wanted to play Super Mario I would go buy a Wii.
Exactly. If you want to make platform games, make a platform game.
Don’t make a mmorpg, then stick a platform game in it. I don’t remember the part in Risk where everyone has to go out for a soccer game.
You need to think outside the square. Blizzard have introduced different elements to their MMO – namely farming crops and pet battles – and were overwhelmed at just how popular they were. The die hard WoW players all enjoyed it, its just another option for the player base to take part in some different content. You are by no means ‘forced’ to take part in those game mechanics. Its an option, remember that before complaining.
I enjoy it more than the games dungeons.
Look for employment irl?
You should NOT be able to run through packs of mobs period. I am fairly new player to the game and my ‘few’ attempts at trying to dungeons with the speed run experts in this game completely puts me off playing it. The community in this game expect (demand) that you skip as much as you can and you’re supposed to know precisely where to go and how to do it. The generally elitist community in this game really surprises me.
Have fun playing by yourself, all that ‘work’ you put in getting items is for what exactly if nobody bothers playing it? Think about how you treat others OP.
It will be Elder Scrolls Online’s mega server by the end of the year, right now its probably Sea of Sorrows.
