I did swashbuckler’s last week so it’s a recent problem.
I was able to get onto the pipes in not so secret using a closer but you need the ship after that too.
the airship is floating above bad omen beach. unless that is another random airship
Can you jump onto it with a speed buff?
I would be happy if char didn’t revert to that stupid tigger-bound running mode. Sick of having to tap 1 from time to time just to get the kitten ed thing to stand up. I’m guessing that someone at ANet had a stupid idea and forced it on everyone. Some will like it some will hate it, give us the choice.
I couldn’t tell either, but once pointed out I agree, that would be annoying.
They said that the one big mistake they made with GW1 was blowing up “home”. I know technically home in GW2 is your starting cities, but come on, they are useless ghost towns. Home is LA, and they just blew it up.
Makeshift LA sucks
@1 I am not too bothered if ANet chooses some loony algorithm to auto-select the priority, they must know better than me that the neutral deer wandering around in the background is more important for me to kill than the Ettin that’s bashing my brains out. But, when I map a key to select closest target, that’s what I want, closest target, no algorithm needed, I already have a (tab) key for select random unsuitable target, I don’t need another.
If the cargo still floats there, maybe the ship is invisible. Have you tried jumping on it?
It’s hard enough when you can see it, I’m not attempting an invisible JP. I’ll let the devs figure that one out, either way there is a bug to fix.
It expands ever time it opens not just every 6th (that’s just the bag slot wrap-around fitting in). Annoying, but not really that annoying.
This too is my last JP and I am standing on a ledge staring at floating cargo, no ship!
Pets are too slow to enter combat (need a combat closer)
They can’t hit anything that moves. seriously this needs fixing
They lag behind the player and wont even go faster when ordered to attack, seriously, players are the fastest animals in the world? Pets need to have a base speed that is higher.
Pets trigger things that players have the sense to ignore
Pets go out of their way to agro things you want to run through
Pets are all called juvenile whatever because there is no way to name your pet (no, there really isn’t so don’t try to say that there is).
Pets get in the way of jumping puzzles, it’s bad enough with the bad camera work.
Pets pop out whenever you take any damage! why, if I stow it, why is my player decision ignored?
The interface doesn’t tell me what is afflicting my pet.
Rangers may actually be balanced if they worked as intended and did what they were supposed to, but they don’t and so rangers are kitten by this terrible design feature that is bugged beyond belief. Until pets are fixed it isn’t even worth attempting to balance the ranger against any other profession because any balance is just theory craft and situational. Test on a static dummy and they look fine is no way to balance.
Rangers would be in a good place if the pet mechanic worked, but it doesn’t so it isn’t. Pets can’t hit anything that moves and are too slow to react to get into combat.
I would: give pets a combat closer, make them run faster, increase the leash and stop them popping out automatically when you take damage after you stow them.
Class isn’t bad, players using it are.
So lets think about this. Do you mean to say that all the bad players in the game are drawn to the ranger profession? All the better players play other professions? hmm what are the odds of that?
Maybe it’s the profession after all eh?
There are plenty of zones to add this content to. I would support reserving the 5 starter zones for starters only and not have these end-game events in. You can also remove all the champs from Queensdale too, or at least triple their respawn time.
Yet they still can’t hit anything that moves! Good job nothing moves in PvP. Oh, wait…
This is well worth a necro-bump. The particle effects completely obliterate all fights and game-play.
When you consider all the art-work and animation effort that has gone into this game just for some kid to throw a huge pot of ugly coloured paint over the screen 60 times a second, its just crazy.
but some things will never change like it’s terrible dps because of it’s fantastic utility.
Still beats the ranger’s terrible DPS and no utility!
Make your own group, preferably with friends or acquaintances that aren’t elitist jerks.
Profit.
Did you even bother to read OP?
the trend is becoming more than a mere annoyance kitten much time is wasted standing waiting for LFG group to form as I watch 5-10 others fill n go that want ZERO rangers.
Avoid Norn and Charr, the larger models make a mess of camera angles and the scaled down running animation makes them look slow (they aren’t but your perception will be a frustrating slow run).
Especially avoid Charr because of the stupid 4-legged run that curses them, no GW1 or npc Charr is cursed this way, just your character.
Asura also have some camera issues.
That leaves you with Sylvari or human, both have good starting areas unlike the other races so another bonus. Just depends if you are in to the whole plant life thing.
The targeting system is much worse since they improved it. It will even prioritise some non-aggressive (yellow) targets over hostiles! I could live with some of the mad quirks of the auto-targeting system if there were alternatives, but the only alternative of target closest now does’t do that, it just does the same stupid ANet-knows best silly system.
Ideally we need to have:
Target closest
Target next (closest)
Target highest priority (ANet crazy rules; they are sometimes useful)
Currently we only have ANet crazy target.
lol, no it doesn’t. inclusion by some does not equal prefer.
Warriors ARE balanced.
In order to have them so good, rangers have to be so bad to restore the game balance.
The ranger is the beastmaster class if you are playing a ranger and want to only be an archer then you have picked the wrong class.
Don’t forget the “unparalleled archer” that ANet claims it is. But accepting that beastmaster is the central concept don’t you think it would be nice if ANet took a break from smite booning the shortbow and miniscule buffing the longbow and instead fix the kitten ed pet mechanics that are so heavily broken?
There is nothing wrong with champ trains in general. there is something very wrong with the champ train in Queensdale. It’s the abuse hurled at normal players by those in the train that think it’s their ANet given right to have every champ four times an hour. There are plenty of easy fixes, just double or even triple the respawn time in Queensdale champs, have them on different time spans, make them much tougher, scale better etc.
For now, the one thing we can do is simply report abusive players, it’s very easy to do.
Levels serve no purpose in this game. The things it does add could have been done regardless (skill availability, material tiers etc.). In an attempt to make the zones playable we have scaling, but that doesn’t work well. GW2 was supposed to be redefining MMO bot expanding levels above gw1 was a backward conventionalist step. GW1 proved that fast leveling to 20 (for training purposes) created a much better game so the next logical step would be no levels, not copy WoW and fall back into the pack.
My fear is that they will classify it as “working as intended” which would be really bad
No, this is a much reported bug I have now found out. (I foolishly relied on the search capability of this forum before posting the thread. Search doesn’t work at all.) There are quite a few reports of this bug.
-snip-
Ranger. Is. The. Pet. Class. That will not change.
You shouldn’t play a class hoping that they’ll change a core mechanic about it. That’s stupid.
I think it’s just that people have given up on the notion of ANet ever fixing pets so are wanting to cut their losses. Option 1 would be for ANet to fix their broken mechanic, option 2 is to have an alternative (no pet).
What is bloody stupid is forcing the players to put up with this mess.
Select nearest now does the weird ANet prioritised “we know better than you what you want to select” thing rather than what is expected. I already have a button for “select weird ANet priority target” (tab). Please fix the new bug to select nearest.
I have never noticed a difference with the LOD option. Either it doesn’t do anything noticeably or it never triggers.
Either way it doesn’t work and our screens are a total unreadable mess in most (if not all) significant fights. I can see my fights against bunny rabbits clearly though, not quite the immersive combat system I was hoping for.
Some good stuff in here, but nice they way they simply can’t buff the ranger without swinging that nerf bat at the same time.
Marksmanship is still a heavily overloaded line, really needs some of the useful traits moved our for diversity. And really disappointed that SB is still basically a melee weapon, was hoping Eagle Eye would include that for a +300.
Nothing to address pet mechanics, the single biggest issue with rangers.
I used to play the content they added, but I realised I just wasn’t enjoying most of it so now I give it a try and abandon if it isn’t fun. It hasn’t been much fun for a long time (I enjoyed parts of bazaar).
I would buy things for real money if there was any value. Many (most?) items in the Gem store are a complete rip-off. Keys are a good example.
It’s odd because you can move the mini map and the chat to the top of the screen, but not to the other side, and resize them
Yeah we’ve done a number of steps already this year to improve it, but we have a long ways to go to get it cleaned up to the point we’re happy with. It’s something we’re continuing to work on for sure, but we’re focusing way more on game performance currently before we turn back to the FX side.
I’m surprised that they aren’t to some extent linked, with way less effects going on that surely has to improve performance especially in manic events?
Does ANet have any plans to address the problems in the weakest class by miles in the game, or even just fix the numerous bugs and broken mechanics?
So an 18K hp character was instadowned by a 5k crit? Despite log showing taking lots of other damage by other sources over a period of time. Yet this poor engineer claims to be wandering around doing dailies and minding his own business.
Reasons aside, the anti-spam rules are too tight to permit normal messaging activity in many circumstances.
Ranger is a mid-weak condition applier so there isn’t going to be any help coming from that quarter.
Maybe ANet just needs to fix the bugs, pets and trait-line synergy before they think about changing other things. They should focus on getting rangers where they originally intended them but failed through bad implementation.
Bad reasoning by OP
While I agree that it is impossible to have perfect balance, that is no reason to not call for better balance. What we currently have is VERY BAD balance and we can certainly demand that ANet do a lot better than what we currently have.
It doesn’t help that balance is assumed by what the profession should do, but bad mechanics and bugs prevent that balance.
Cursed Shore has a champ farm
Viable, yes
Optimal, not even close. I have only ever seen rangers declined from a party, there is a reason there.
So all the classes that AOE knockbacks and you come and complain about a class having a single target knockback.
OP fail on a massive scale
There is a lot of good art in the game, shame you rarely get to see any of it because of spell effects. It’s like someone went into the art gallery and chucked pots of paint all over the masterpieces; and then don’t see a problem when people point it out. The LOD checkbox would be the same as giving you a small ball of cotton wool to wipe some of the paint off.
I guess the mods didn’t know either
It would be nice if a scroll could give you +20 levels rather than just the first 20 levels.
I have been getting a number of PMs from forum moderators recently saying a thread I have posted in has been moved to a new forum. It then says follow the thread here and point to the new forum. I have no idea what thread was impacted and no way to find out.
Can I ask that the link be made to the thread and not the new forum please? Otherwise moved thread = killed thread.
It would be nice if a Dev could acknowledge the particle problem rather than have a big reading comprehension failure.
Having said that, I too would like to get rid of the personal story notifications, have them remember collapsed state and finally, I too am forever losing my mouse, a real problem for targeted spells.
Any EU alternative to TTS?
Cleaning up the existing UI systems to make them less cluttered, more-stream lined, and better unified is part of this project and absolutely something you’ll see in the west as well, likely around or possibly even before we release the game in our next major world region.
I think you are missing the point. The clutter referred to is the particle effects of spells that turn the whole screen into an indistinguishable colour mash, The LOD checkbox needs to work a lot better
