Well I’m with werdernator
You would be wasting $300
And don’t be swayed too much by the single thread issue of DX 9, that’s just one aspect of the workload for rendering the pipeline. GW2 is fully multi-threaded. eg my octacore is currently using 48 threads for GW2.exe and utilising 37% cpu across those cores, I’m just idle in LA.
Save your $300 for now and upgrade later when you can do it properly, esp as you don’t even have $300 if it’s just a CC limit.
what most people seem to do is bind clicks to mouse wheel to make it a lot less (literally) painful to open stacks of stuff while still trying to stick to the one press to one action rule.
Of course if the UX guys at ANet could just add a right-click use all menu option none of this would be needed.
Hopefully when they rebuild it it won;t have the silly boat bridges
HoT includes more playable races and more professions
Increase level cap
More RNG double-click fest content
More time-gated crafting
an item to consume dragonite ore that makes Mawdrey look like a common drop in newbie areas.
That doesn’t make any sense the R7 240 is pitiful compared to a 7850, not surprising considering it’s about 1/4 of the price
Check some benchmarks here
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
That card should not be running high, it’s a poor medium card. Try auto-detect and by all means tweak some values up but keep an eye on your fps. You have a poor GPU.
If you don;t want to play in lower settings then buy a better graphics card.
That said, it shouldn’t crash on you so there is also some other problem.
This doesn’t sound right, my octa-core ramps up nicely, there is something else in your system that is limiting before your CPU/GPU
The only clear thing ANet have said on this is one key-press = one action. Most people seem to settle on binding mouse wheel to double-click as each click of the wheel results in one action. However ANet have never said if they are happy with this or not. Some people prefer to suffer pain and injury playing the game than take the risk of an account ban. A better designed game wouldn’t require you to injure yourself to play it!
Never heard of this, are you sure it’s your PSU fan? Download a program like speedfan and check the temperature of things when it’s doing this.
Probably thermal protection kicking in. GW2 will thrash your CPU, causing it to overheat and down-clock to protect itself.
If it used to be okay then it may be that your cooling fan/heatsink has got clogged with dust or even dislodged slightly. You can get any number of programs that will report your cpu temperature, I tend to use speedfan.
Regardless if it is temperature, check to make sure that you don’t have dust clogging your system heatsinks, if you can get into the case it should be pretty easy to clear.
I can’t see it being anything to do with a bios battery under any scenario!
I never saw copper fail in the early days before people “knew better”
Expansions only have one point, to make money. The more money they make, the more likely we will get more improvements to the whole game.
I don;t even know why we have levels. Pointless with scaling in the game, except where the scaling doesn’t work very well. They put 80 in to try and get the WoW crowd. IMO they should have removed levels altogether and just granted skill and trait points for doing content.
Character Model Limit and Render Sampling
The needs tp be fixed as well as the other stupid “helpful” ideas on that screen, like setting the number down to 1 when you click on lowest seller item, and auto selecting items to buy when you increase the number, despite having set your maximum value before. Who is responsible for that mess of a dialog?
Have you tried GW1? It sounds like it would be perfect for you. And I can personally recommend it as an excellent game.
Please, whichever dev keeps messing with the trading post dialog can you please stop, This screen is now terrible. Why on why do you have focus move to where the mouse pointer is? Then there are teh bugs where you constantly have to fight with it to get both the quantity and the price you want correct.
Now with the latest patch it’s got much worse. If I want to sell a small stack of things for best price I right-click/sell. It defaults to selling my stack at sell immediate price. But I don’t want to do that, I want to sell at the going rate so I click on the top of the current sellers list so the price is set as I want it, but now the quantity gets set to one!!!!!
Why would you do this? Please stop messing with some sort of pseudo messed up fake predictive assumptions of what anyone would want and leave values alone! This screen is an absolute MESS!!! Please, turn it into a normal date entry screen and stop fighting your users over the values they enter!
I would be happy if there was an option to turn that stupid gallop off. Fed up with pressing 1 every few seconds just make him not so stupid.
Some of us posting here have worked on computers when they (the computers) were as big as a room and used punch cards. Think on that a little.
Well that describes me, and you are talking rubbish.
I used to design motherboards. Think on that a lot
Shame there isn’t a -1 button
Lag in big battles is almost always caused by loading too many character models, they just need to lower their character model limit in graphic options.
The game can be either CPU or GPU limited. But this isn;t that. If it is normally fine then suddenly drops I would suspect a hardware throttling is kicking in to protect a chip from overheating.
You mention the card running at 55 but what is the CPU doing? Check the temp on that, also run something like CPU-Z and check the multipliers are staying up
It definitely is not a latency problem. That is all fine, could the gpu be bottlenecking the gpu? Thinking of getting a better heatsink and overclocking to 4.2
I think you misunderstood me, it;s not latency. Your CPU will have built in protection if it gets hot it will throttle back it’s clock multiplier causing a massive drop in performance. If you run CPU-Z you can see what your core clock speed is and the multipliers that are applied to that clock. I would suspect that when you suffer lag it’s because your CPU is throttling back to protect it’self from overheating
I would suspect a problem moving stuff into the graphics memory. Hopefully not a faulty PCI bus, maybe faulty drivers, but if it’s just GW2 that gives issues them maybe faulty GW2 data? Try re-downloading the game?

I put an invisible bag as the last bag slot and then put those things up there which has pretty much the same effect you are looking for. They stay put immune to compact and nothing else get there unless your other inventory gets full.
It;s the one big question so many of us want answering but ANet REFUSE to definitively say. They have said that auto-clickers are not allowed but have not said what they regard as an auto-clicker. They have said that macros are fine but you need to stick to the one-press to one action principle, they have not said how mice fit into that, either buttons or wheel.
So many people want to resolve the kitten ed awful game design that is “click your mouse button millions of times”. People have burnt out their mice and burnt out their fingers with this. Players have found ways around this, commonly binding mouse wheel to double-click. But we all live in fear of a ban because of their deliberate ambiguity on the matter.
We don;t want to bot, we don;t want an “advantage” we just want to do the things ANet have put into the game but without damaging our mouse or our health.
God realms. What happened to UW/FoW? And finally add the others while they are at it.
The new dailies are very easy, I do PvP, WvW and PvE. But OP has a point, the zone events are a joke, they do need tweaking, there is no way ANet would have deliberately made the mess they are.
There is no cooperation, players go ape overkill on bosses with no consideration to letting anyone else take part. If ANet are to continue with these zone events they need to scaled and announced better. Region based events were much much better. Maybe scale the rewards to make allowance for the particular zone you do them in to encourage players into less popular zones.
+1 for My Little Pony bow
I think you will find it has nothing to do with your CPU or data/ssd/mb
Try changing character model limit in graphic settings down to medium or lower and you will notice your frame rate stays high in the big events. It’s trying to load 300 peoples armour every frame.
I’ve been getting these quite a bit the last two weeks. EU server
Yup TP interface is a hideous mess at the moment. It sometimes decides when you want to put a buy offer that instead it will select all the items you need to buy instantly. I have to close and re-open the kitten ed thing several times before I can put a buy offer in.
There is some whacked out screwed up sill code added to that dreadfully designed screen. And spin buttons that are about 3 pixels big! That screen can be a whole lot better with the available real-estate.
+1 and same goes for ineffable bits
One of the GREAT selling points of this game is its aesthetics.
Ironic as ANet have always specialised in fugly. Ascalon post searing, realm of torment, ring of fire, Kaineng city, fissure of woe, most of the underworld, desolation, domain of anguish all soooo much fugly. GW2 is heading the same way, it was bad enough with Orr but now they are busy turning the good areas into fugly.
I get the whole dramatic “dragons are coming” and all that, but really, it’s meant to be an enjoyable game, stop wrecking everything with so much fugly!!!!
It’s to make our wintersday RNG junk even more miserable
There are times when you might want to report a player in map chat, but not block them. Adding a check box would take just as much time to block someone as right click +report…I have certainly watched my block list grow over the holidays. Gold sellers strike again!
I’ve never wanted to report a player and not block them, there may well be times, but I’ve never come across them.
Don’t tell us, update the wiki!
It would be good to have a “Block” checkbox (default on) on that report screen. I always report/block so would appreciate that happening all in one.
RNG inside RNG inside RNG
Why do you do this? If you are going to put this mass click spam into the game can you buy us all replacement mice and replacement arms too?
Seriously, do something about the stacks, this is terrible design both from a game and UI perspective.
Is there a really simple way for dummies that suck at maths? I have about 3k skill points and I need to convert that really quickly without any spreadsheet or some wierd complicated conversion.
Nope, the information has been provided
I think the listing fee is too high anyway, I think they should lower it a bit and put it back on the commission. But agree there should be clear out of illegally low bid offers.
A few other changes to TP would help, those crazy stupid small spin arrows don;t even line up correctly with the mouse pointer, needs fixing and making larger, that’s bad UI.
I have a GTX 980 and I’m receiving 20-30 fps. I attempted to put the resolution lower and it did not help. It was fine until I logged in one day. How do I fix this?
A couple of things spring to mind.
Do you also have an on-board graphics card? It may be that GW is using the on-board rather than the 980. you may be able to change this in the nVidia control panel 3D settings or even right-click icon you may have a graphics properties menu item. These settings tend to affect laptop users more than desktop, but it’s easy to check.
Alternatively your driver may have crashed out/corrupted try uninstalling/re-installing the graphics driver (do a clean install)
They also use these phished accounts to spam gold seller whispers
Some puzzles are very easy
Star of Gratitude is trivial to get so no reason not to have it.
Hoewever, Mawdrey is a pain to get and just the sheer volume of this junk that gets thrown at us is staggering. Thermo catalytic reagent and obby shards are too expensive as a solution to it.
This stuff is more common than dirt, it’s a joke. It would be better if all recipes and awards of this junk were divided by 10 as that would also divide the amount of storage needed for this dirt by 10

You probably have some program that wants to take window focus. Try changing your graphics settings, set resolution to fullscreen windowed should stop it minimising but won;t cure the underling problem of another program stealing focus all the time. Check what else you have running.
Glad you have a way forward
If it’s only temporary a 650 will be fine to enjoy the game at a decent level, the 750 is worth the extra $30-$40 but if you are going to get something even better soon then go for the cheapest temp upgrade you can, a second-hand card off ebay or even a lower spec temp card maybe closer to $60
Agree, I’m sorry to say that you will never have the game playable on such a weak graphics card. Your CPU isn’t great but will play GW2 reasonably well (It’s actully recommended minimum spect) but your graphics card kills you stone dead.
The minimum specs are on the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Running_the_game
If you look at this page
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
You will see that your card has a score rating of 23 which is spectacularly terrible and well below the minimum spec card scores of around 180.
Personally I would be uncomfortable playing on a card with as poor a score as 180, you need to have a card around the 1500-2000 for reasonably smooth gameplay. In the US I assume (I’m UK) that you are talking around $100 for something like a GeForce 650.
I have a GeForce GTX 750 Ti which will cost you about $130, about twice the power of the 650
In the mean time the only thing you can do is press F11 and make sure that you set every graphics setting to absolute minimum. You will also notice that the F11 screen shows you your frame rate in the bottom left of that window. That’s useful when you are playing around with the graphics options; I suspect you are seeing a very low number there.
Also don’t forget that MF only applies to loot dropped from killing mobs, it doesn’t affect containers like loot bags and chests and ANet tend to deliver the rare stuff in containers these days.
