Players hate rangers
ANet hates rangers even more
None of this would be a problem if they hadn’t decided to bring the monk back into the game.
Just remember the policy for macros is one one key-press must result in only one action. In the above example I believe it follows this rule as a single mouse wheel click results in a single action.
Agree, it always felt like a mini-game activity that never made it to the game. Like polymock (please ANet, do NOT put polymock in the game)
Thanks Joel, a really interesting and informative post. Brilliant comms.
I would really love there to be a regular article like this on various aspects of the game. A weekly tech insight?
I use it occasionally and noticed the new sound, I quite like it because I rarely use it, if it was a main weapon it would get so annoying real fast.
Fortunately it’s a short bow so that’s pointless, a bow that has the same range as tossing a balloon!
Why would anyone that wanted to roll a ranger ever want any of this junk?
Why does ANet HATE rangers?
I’ve said it many times. ANet hates rangers, the devs don’t play rangers and this is why we can never have nice things.
Holy trinity is back, except NOBODY wants to be the kittenty monk. Not so much of healbot as a blamebot
As ever in the store, just nothing worth the money. in a game that has got very boring I really don’t understand the empty store, it’s as if they aren’t even trying to make their customers happy.
Squeaking/creaking lathes and looms etc at crafting stations, always have to turn environmental sounds to zero when I craft
I found this really cool site, it tells you all sorts of things that you want to know
www.google.com
Ranger usually have the mechanics that in the hands of top players can be great. ANet balances for that. The other 99% of ranger players can just RP with their pet because making you viable will break the game because of the 1% good players.
Ranger = Broken
How long has the Queensdale champ train been gone? So why post this thread now?
That train was toxic, so happy it was removed, though they really need to buff the Oakheart/Troll etc, they are soooooo weak now it’s a joke.
I agree with OP. In combat speed is all about skill effects/dodge speed etc. Though I see no reason why out of combat speeds can’t be increased to 133% as standard. If they did that then there really would be no point to swiftness. So really it is just for player convenience getting A-B; shouldn’t getting to somewhere fun be more of a priority for game design?
ping is ping, there should be no server processing in the calculation (other than echo request/reply) or it’s not a ping. If your cmd ping is significantly different from the game ping then ANet implemented ping wrong.
There are no application levels here either. This is low, level 3 network, just above wires and bits, nowhere near the application layer, it’s ICMP packets, lower even than TCP/IP (which is why you can’t ping a port).
ANet’s UI design in GW2 was always a bit poor (a bit! lol) but the hero point change was just unbelievable, they made the UI much worse. Updates are supposed to make things better but GW2 UI is now somewhat of a joke. From invisible elements to OTT particle effects, lack of configuration to RSI inducing double-clickness everywhere. ANet UI really needs a big overhaul. The playerbase has been complaining about all these bad UI elements since launch and things just keep getting worse.
Season 2 is instanced so can still exist, season 1 was genuinely living world so can’t as it’s content will affect the world today. Even if they instanced it it would not work because most of the content was large full map wide content requiring hundreds of players. I am sure they would like to if they could but it’s just the nature of how it was done, they have made changes to how they design and bring new content to us,
Plus given that the changes they made also coincides with them giving the whole game away free with the new expansion I don’t think any new player has any right to complain.
Even with a 5-man party this is often a problem. Much requested and much ignored. Nobody can understand why ANet hasn’t addressed this as the visual design of the game was clearly very important to them, but as soon as a big battle starts it’s as if they pour flashing paint all over your monitor.
sounds like a human interface issue to me, perhaps you need to install more memory.
Just no!
There is no point complaining about how poor the ranger is in here. Nobody at ANet who is capable of making a change plays ranger and nobody at ANet who is capable of making a change reads this forum. It is because of this that ranger is in a such poor place and I am willing to bet it will get even poorer in the future. Ranger bugs will not get fixed, pets will not get fixed (they think they already did that) Just look at what happened to ranger in GW1.
ANet hates ranger, they like warrior, always did, always will. If you want to play ranger then find another game, Guild Wars is not for you.
If you want to complain, do it in general. Forum staff will move it but at least someone at ANet might read it before it’s moved.
I never used spirit’s much before but now I can’t think of any reason why they exist in the game. New ANet ranger is so bad at most things but spirits are just a joke.
Can someone explain, what is the problem we are trying to solve here?
Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows
Maybe if all your foes are ambient creatures!
Post it in the bugs section because nobody from ANet will ever read it in this forum.
Yup leave your ranger alone for a long while til they fix all the stuff that needs to be fixed
Been waiting for ANet to fix ranger for 10 years, they don’t play ranger so they never will. Every balance patch that comes out kicks ranger in the teeth, or it would if we had any teeth left, which we don’t.
/pointless thread as ANet doesn’t play ranger, or read this forum. Healing spring fail proves that much
Does the -bmp command line argument still work?
Now there is some drop research building up it’s pretty clear that this is just a lose lose activity which nobody will bother with. There is absolutely nothing in it for the player other than massive loss.
I can’t see any reason why it exists
This comes back to the same issue I always had with GW2, why are there any levels at all? If there were no levels balancing difficulty would be a lot easier as any area or instance could be set to a know difficulty without all this levelling consideration. Players would have to unlock skills and abilities rather than grind abstract XP in some Gygaxian nightmare.
One of the big benefits of guild wars 1 was low level cap; I hoped that GW2 would just do away with levels altogether but the chased WoW instead. Now with the trait rework and down-scaling changes the whole concept of levels is looking more ridiculous, all the balance issues, all the junk gear, wasted items and pointless vendor trash, what for? Just to have a painful learning experience for new players and an excruciating grind for everyone else. Massive waist of dev and player time.
I think it’s bugged in a lot of ways, some of the reductions are not 66% only half.
Relative to other classes, Ranger is about the weakest now, fortunately I spend almost as much time on my Ele. Ranger will never be fixed while ANet doesn’t bother to play it themselves.
Shame they can’t think of a better use for it, like reducing the chance of being hit by falling rocks etc.
Disagree, the champs in Queensdale were great gameplay for new players, then the train came searching for the loot bags and spoilt it and ANet did what ANet always do they lazy Smiters Booned it and threw the baby out with the bath water. The former champ oakheart was nerfed so hard it is weaker than standard vet oakhearts.
Anet is genius when it comes to balancing ranger.
And it will ever be so because they don’t play it themselves.
Feels like a nerf overall but still playing with stuff, compared to the other’s buffs Ranger is really smacked down and the better ranger builds are now nothing special. It also feels like you have to mash buttons a lot more to get to that level of poor mediocrity.
ANet always does this to rangers because thy know people will play them anyway so they can just focus on buffing warriors, which is all they seem to like to play.
Challenge to ANet, respond in this thread; it’s a challenge because I doubt anyone from ANet development/balance ever visits this forum,
What it used to do is not relevant, the game has changed, currently it states:
“Create a spring that heals you, you pet, and your allies”
For a new account it’s a good price, for an upgrade to an existing account it’s a train wreck.
“My health, low vision, and coordination are such…”
I don’t know why people don’t bother to at least read the first post.
You should try reading it yourself. I did. Quoting a small line out of context makes your argument silly. If they are so ill, blind and wretched that they can’t make a jump then they are dead. The problem here is they suck at it (as I once did) but this can be overcome. Any skill can be learnt and jumping is certainly no exception.

The problem is the way maps fill up which guarantees that un-organised players have no change to do it, only by joining the organised groups, who know how to play the maps will you get it. Unless you are lucky and just happen to fall into an organised map (it does happen).
Well, the tactic doesn’t work for me, nor the crazy prices for the junk they always sell. I mostly forget the gem store exists because it sells so little at such a rip-off price.
I used to suck at jumping, like many people. But I have now done all the JPs and while I am not JP expert I can now do most jumps fine. It’s called practice, stick at it and you will get better. Give in and the problem is really mainly yours.
There is no reason why GW2 can’t run on a console other than the cost of both developing the client and maintaining it.
So no, it won’t happen.
There are a number of ways ANet can easily fix this problem so that everyone can win, so the request for ANet to fix it is a good one, everything else in this thread is noise.
It would be nice if in PvE, when you have completed a zone or instance you have the option (or an item – TP 1000 gems) that allows this. Imagine being able to create your own vista style fly by vids.
Have you tried logging on?
From what I can tell, I think he is referring tot he named areas you need for the various map region explorations. i.e. not PoI/Vistas etc, but named areas; there is a different achievement for these separate to world completion and it is account wide not character. It would be useful as suggested but I still think the best way is to do world completion on one character, the rewards are better and it makes this objective easier too.
While we are in the process of not crippling players, can we have a right-click “consume all” option for stacks?
There are plenty of things broken with the market/economy some item prices, a lot down to supply and demand as dictated by ANet (silk) so easily fixed by ANet if they wanted to. Flipping is not something broken, if ANet won’t fix the broken things then I sure hope they don;t fix the non-broken things,
As for the suggestion that items bought of TP become account bound!! OMG just wow!!!
The trouble is, they add meaningful content, but it only keeps up occupied for a short time, then it becomes rinse/repeat/grind. HoT will be meaningful content. I am very happy with the expansion concept, it’s what kept GW1 going. Without expansions GW2 after 2 years felt like GW1 after 5
