Since I have been having extreme difficulty staying connected during the event, I have started to go into the lake. Where there is little traffic to “afk”. Mostly I fight my internet connection in the hopes that I can actually get enough found relics for the items. I do not succeed all the time and frequently get disconnected over and over again.

I’ve had people show up and immediately drag enemies to me. Which I then fight immediately. Half the time I disconnect when that starts up.

I am at my keyboard. I am “playing” the game. I am simply not contributing to the event itself as I cannot do so currently and it’s not your right to deny me access to the game.

If I could get enough relics SIMPLY by doing the daily rubble, then I wouldn’t even bother, but that’s not the case.

I have so far not gotten a “Full run” and not even close. Mostly because I cannot stay connected to a server and get dumped into an overflow with only 300 or so at the 45 minute mark.

So I personally dislike that Anet seems to be banning people for being afk, especially without even testing if they are indeed afk or not. If my account gets banned for my activity, I will most certainly raise one hell of a fuss.

I have no sympathy. I’ve been fighting the same thing, disconnecting every three to five minutes and sometimes having to reboot the game entirely. Being an active member of [MEDx], I’m pretty sure they got sick of constantly ferrying me back into their overflow (when that was even possible, which was 20% of the time), and my wife gets concerned about how infuriated I get over something I’m doing ‘for fun’. I still manage to contribute rescues, and I get all the heirlooms run after about my 4th time in. I’m not superhuman, just determined, and determined to make sure my team succeeds.

It may not be my right to deny you access, but it sure as kitten is not your right to deny other people access. Stop being a hypocrite.

You don’t have to start an alt, just another crafting discipline. You keep the progress on any you have to “discard” to start a new one. It’s a bit of a pain and it’s not cheap, but you wouldn’t need to start an alt for it.

Don’t do it. Keep your crafting disciplines 2 per character, and get another character if you have to.

Yup, I’m a leech. I hang out by the ruins of the forge doing the Dolyaks, the Children, defending the Trader’s Forum and occasionally Miasma over and over again. Sometimes I run up to the BLTC building to encourage traders when there’s a lull. Otherwise I just stand there by the forge watching the city burn.

I wouldn’t quantify that as leeching; maintaining a post in an active flight path and doing events does help (provided you succeed). We’re talking about people that waltz through the door and then stick a thumb up their kitten while they wait for presents to be doled out, which more often then not contributes to everyone in the event getting less and anger all around. So, yeah, it has been MADE my business.

I played for 5 hours after the patch yesterday and experienced no lag. This was in a TS of over 200 people and I read no complaints on map chat. In fact, a lot of people on TS gave credit for Anet that this didn’t turn out like the Karka invasion.

Unless you are specifically referring to the network lag that happened for the past 2 weeks – that is an entirely different issue that is of no fault from Anet.

I’m aware of that issue. It seemed to me like it was still ongoing, as I couldn’t maintain a connection to the game for longer than 5 minutes.

In each of the videos we’ve seen along the way, we’re treated to a voiceover giving some kind of teaser text. A couple have been narrated by Scarlet (Tara Strong affecting that accent the Sylvari have). Lately, however, that’s not the case.

The Tower of Nightmares video and several of those that followed have featured voiceovers by different people, male and female, and always using some sort of sound processing which usually indicates the speaker as supernatural or otherworldly. And while most of the narration contains more than a hint of implied menace, the narrator in the Battle For Lion’s Arch video is rallying Tyria to its defense and clearly appears to be on our side.

So, who is it that’s talking? Are these supposed to be actual characters? If so, we haven’t seen any of them yet, and there are at least three.

I thought for sure the Tower of Nightmares woman was going to turn out to be a krait, but they all sound quite different. Then there was speculation that the man introducing the imminent attack on LA was one of the dragons, but we haven’t seen evidence that even Zhaitan communicates in that manner.

If it IS supposed to be an ingame personage speaking during each video, someone that would have insight to the coming events or at least able to view it with some impunity, who might that be? Could this indicate the 6 gods are, in fact, taking a heavy interest behind the scenes, and might soon make an appearance?

What would have been a great idea would be to allow us to use the leftover pieces when we don’t have enough for a full key. 25 pieces make a key. How about for each piece we have leftover, we can make a makeshift “pick” to pick the lock on the chest, with each piece we have left over contributing 4% to the success of the makeshift lock pick. Got 24 pieces and can’t make a key? Double click them to form a lock pick with a 96% chance of success. Only one piece of that Toxic key? Still got a 4% chance to open the chest with it. That way we still make use of the pieces, even if they fail. I just hate clicking on “destroy” for anything other than bloodstone dust.

Poor idea. The smart people will break their piles up and use them individually. The chance of using 24 pieces and having all of them fail is only about 1 in 3, so you’re fairly likely to have multiple successes.

Looks like you’d best bring Stability to this fight. Big hammer = obvious kd?

Not yet highlighted is the level difference. With elites (already just shy of cahmpion status) 4 levels higher than you, expect a lot of 2-shotting.

Banning people for AFKing won’t work as, like Silent Avenger said, innocent people get caught in the crossfire. Maybe they stopped to manically sort out inventory space (that’s what usually causes me to stop for a while), or maybe they needed a bathroom break or the baby woke up etc.

I have a constant problem with having to salvage everything I pick up, thanks to accumulating crap like a packrat. It’s still only a matter of seconds, and I can do it while I autoattack if I’m careful. Same with TPing.

I have to agree that banning is a bit harsh in these circumstances unless you’ve proven that you’re doing this repeatedly. Getting kicked out is a different animal. If whatever took you away from the keyboard ran longer than 5 minutes, then you should have left of your own volition anyways.

Actually, they’re getting something because there are no good solutions that work at a programmed level. Computers can’t read intent. I’m also not sure why you think Anet should get the blame for players being bad people.

I have to agree. I got the recipes out of completionist compulsion and the expectation that these would be comparable to food trays – for 10 food items, you create a station that can be used by the entire map for 5 minutes.

The one saving grace of the NPC stations is that, for 50 silver, you purchase the station for anyone else in the map to use. I have bought those and benefited from other people doing the same, but if they don’t bring the crafting cost in line with food trays, I won’t be making them myself unless they turn out to be usable in the forge.

Well, I made a Superior Sigil Of Torment for my Condimancer, so I bought a bunch of toxic spores to replace the ones I spent… other than that and recipes for Gift of Blades, it’s been level-up tomes.

Anet would have to create a new afk detection system which uses a shorter time interval. Right now I think it’s like 10 minutes or something which is like half of the event. They can’t just kick anyone who is motionless for 30 seconds. What if people need to pee?

For escort events, stay close to the group, but make sure you kill at least one mob that is connected with the event (usually they spawn in a big group in the path of civilians you are escorting). For miasma events, if there are more than 10 players present, just walk away. For boss events, kill kill kill
1) Party up and get the group away to a place that needs civilian escorts. Too many people in a zerg is a recipe for dying. Unfortunately, even concerted efforts can’t really prevent the zerging, but you can find like-minded people and work elsewhere.
2) Killing is actually a poor means of getting XP and always has been. Successful events and completing achievements will net you more. Also, you can trade Belongings for level-up scrolls.
3) Check your video options and reduce the settings. There should also be one for ‘culling’ which removes or forces onscreen player and monster models

So you can all stop complaining ;D

After becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of organization and / or communication in any of the mains or overflow Escape from Lions Arch maps, I have decided to organize a guild of players who are actually willing to leave the zerg and break off into smaller squads of search and rescue. The idea is to get people working together if we ever want a chance at 1500 saves. I am hoping that this will turn into a large group of cross server players whose sole goal is to see those saved citizen numbers increase (similar to how TTS and TXS organized to do Teq). Initially we need the player base and eventually we can organize taxi’s onto overflows to group together.

We are small and growing and have already seen good success, increasing the average number of saves from 600’s to 1000+’s in the LA map we are in… and that is with LESS THAN 15 PEOPLE. Just imagine what 20 or even 30 dedicated MEDx could do for the map.

So are you tired of failing to see large numbers of saved citizens? Not when the Lion’s Arch Search and Rescue (MEDx) are on the scene. No rep required.

I wasn’t going to mention this guild without seeing a post first. I joined in on their last run before the update last night. [MEDx] broke 1500, in overflow. Clearly, they’ve channeled the anger correctly.

Search and Rescue quickly bloated and took over two overflows the next run, getting them both to the new max of 1200. Not as good as they had been doing, but good enough. The main problem? Zerging on the miasma events by nonguild and guild members.

I worry [MEDx] will become victims of their success and start absorbing leechers that won’t quit with the zerg mentality. If that’s you, please, go bother someone else. I’m having a lot more fun running escorts through Eastern Ward with actual parties ;D

This isn’t entirerly true, when I’m rezzing someone I shoot up to ~3.9k armor due to mercy runes…

Also soldiers gear isn’t the tankiest set, Apothecary, Shamans, Clerics, and even Magi are tankier because they can eat up almost as much damage, and regen back A LOT more than soldier. Soldier just helps absorb a little more, but can’t really regen it.

Considering I’m a guardian sporting a full Mercy set, I’ll take that under advisement…

On Marionette, I was particularly vocal and would regularly jump down people’s throats for not ressing their teammates immediately. The situation is a lot different here, and it’s rarely safe to res, even when the person isn’t fully dead.

The two major selling points for Celestial were Magic Find and Critical Damage % (both the highest for any armor set). Magic Find was removed with no compensation, and Crit Damage is about to get a reduction in a coming nerf.
