One idea I had was that a unique set would be creaed for each PvP, WvW and dungeons that could only be acquired by doing said content.
These already exist.
there is a set of gear in WvW for each armor weight that can only be purchased in WvW. It looks no better than any random blue drop that you would see leveling in PvE. There are the tournament weapon skin rewards, but you can only work towards these skins during a tournament. What I am suggesting would be achievable at any time.
As for dungeon skins, you can get each and every one of them through PvP now. And the skins you can get in PvP, just like the WvW skins, are as plain in appearance as low level PvE blue items. I should also mention that none of these skins suggest any sort of feat.
Or are you talking about something else?
I’ve had to reread your OP because, frankly, I had to have been too distracted to give it the proper amount of thought.
The current exclusive armor sets.. well, I didn’t say they didn’t suck ;D I just said they existed. You’ll have to concede that there were a few interesting skins PvP-only, but they’ve largely been removed from circulation with the addition of the wardrobe. I’ll list specifics if anyone cares. And PvP always had access to Dungeon gear as rewards, under different names.
I do like the idea, that getting something that is Legendary ought to require legendary effort, and if you keep some of it mode-exclusive, that’s only fair. Even appealing. WvW is always getting the short end of the stick in this department.
But look around. How often do you see Sunrise and Twilight while you’re standing around in a group? It’s gotten to the point that I don’t want one of either. Ubiquity is devaluing what we already have, possibly because people are buying the Legendary premade and shortcutting the process. Make it harder to get? Who wants to put in more effort than making a Legendary takes?
And what translates to legendary effort in PvP? Winning a tournament? That’ll keep it limited, for certain, but it’ll also kitten off probably 60% of the player base, many of whom would never have wanted to play PvP at all but might have been enticed if such a thing were reachable with extended inividual effort.
And that I think is a key problem here. How do you translate the legendary creation process to the other game modes so that your individual effort isn’t completely dependent on the effort of your group (pvp team, wvw server)? Or can you do that at all?
