I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing a reappearance of the Tengu weapons that were available in the bonus mission pack. I had the Tengu sword and bow. They were puuuurty

I loved the Tengu shield.

The amount of shield skins that I would be caught wielding can be counted on one hand in GW2…. less so if you count the ones that don’t clip on my charr’s armor.

Whenever the Tengu get reintroduced thanks to Mordy beelining through their territory, that’d be a great time to reintroduce them to the BL store.

I just got 5 continue coins from opening one of the LS reward bags (which caught me completely off guard). I’m hoping this means it will be here soon.

Pics, or it didn’t happen.

Heck, pics and I still won’t believe it XD but I have to admit, with the midseason break coming soon, this would be a good time to insert it.

Wow, I forgot my audience. I didn’t take pics and even if I did what would stop somebody from saying they weren’t in my inventory to begin with? In any case, frankly I don’t care. Believe me or don’t, doesn’t bother me. I was simply contributing to the conversation with my own experience as I thought it a very odd drop when I opened the bag from the LS.

Relax, I was just ribbing. ;D

Still, I remain incredulous, but hopeful

While not worth as much xp, you can still get a boost by filling out your lower tier discoveries. Chances are, if you’re level 80, you’ll have a lot of T5 materials you can turn into rares. Check the master artificer to make sure you have rare inscription recipes.

Two potion sets that are easy to miss are Inquest and Krait slaying potions. The former require a scepter part. The latter require an enhanced jewel.

Also, the are sigils you can discover, provided you have the lodestones or doubloons, but you’re probably already aware of those.

Pretty cool design and animations, but… he’s basically out of place in the world. >.> It’d be like getting a Commando tonic.

makes no sense whatsoever. looks cool though, I like the design.

You’re right, it IS out of place. And you guys got me thinking.

When will Super Adventure Box [SAB] return?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

Actually, I’m going to revise that…

The monkey king item we just received is a real anomaly. Sure, this could be a tribute to the new servers being opened in China, but for that they would pick something more universally known. Like the panda mini. Saiyuki isn’t a story with much renown in the west, even if it is one of the classics of Chinese literature, and with the intervening gap of a few months, the timing is now completely off.

So why are we receiving a tribute to a poorly known fantasy story from the old kingdom? Unless it’s a reference to something else. At best, the only thing we have in-game that connects to it are grawl. But in SAB, there is a hierarchy of enemies in simian form. And SAB is supposed to be based on Cantha (or one asura’s misconceptions thereof).

Makes ya think.

well yeah there is a pool of items that can be inside
it happened to me about 8times as well
(out of several hundred)
it happens in dungeons as well with all chests not just wvw

but thats becasue there is not every rune armour combination that can be dropped
if it could the auction house would have…. LOOOOTS of stuff

This is the crux of the matter. Items are not (totally) randomly generated. Rather, there is a list of specific items and it is randomly picked from. Even if you are seeing double picks frequently, it is quite possible that it can happen. Not entropically favored does not mean impossible.

Yes, and you know that Aerin’s note is a Soundless mantra immediately if you’re sylvari, for instance. I like what they’ve done so far, I’d just love to see profession matter the way race does for these little things

You’ve probably seen the little lore things they’ve included for Engineers since the end of the first season, and a few things for race and personal story choices. Adding actual play mechanics to easy-mode a single encounter for one or more professions…. this is brilliant. It speaks to the True Dungeon fan in me ;D

To be fair, you’d have to include something for everyone eventually, but I do like this idea.

Guaranteed zero rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

I entirely understand and support the OP’s view.

The entire rewards system in this game needs to be looked at. Why should I be repeatedly getting greens from soloing Giganticus Lupicus in Arah when I can kill a champ in an open world zerg event in less than 1 minute? I can think of a bazillion ways to improve the reward system.

The first and foremost though: loot should always be dependent on the rank of the mob killed.

Regular: whites
Veterans: whites/blues, higher chance of blues
Elites: blue/greens, higher chance of greens
Champions: greens/rares, higher chance of rares
Legendaries: rares/exotics, higher chance at exotics with a chance at precursors
World bosses: exotics, even higher chance at precursors

Everyone at a world boss zerg fight gets an exotic or better. Logical conclusion: a few hundred exotics dumped into the tp every hour, an utterly trashed economy, and an even further devaluing of highest tier weapons. At least fishing around in the mystic forge for precursors would become affordable. Not profitable, of course, because it’s only a matter of months of riding the boss train before everyone has 4-5 of them.

Mobs from each region’s open world maps should also have a chance at dropping the respective dungeon tokens. Killing a veteran/elite perhaps can yield 1 token towards the dungeon in the region, champion 3 tokens, legendaries 5 tokens, etc. It would minimize the need to farm dungeons for the grind over and over, or PvP endlessly to get an entire set of dungeon equips.

Now this, this is workable. It could be argued that it’s just another grind, but in truth you’re getting a little something for just being in the area. The rewards are soulbound and would be infrequent enough to not hurt supply or drive down demand.

Also, exploring certain key areas should yield extremely rare and useful items. For example, finishing your personal story by killing Zhaitan should yield a Gift of Zhaitan.

Something, like a token of your victory? Of your success as a pact commander?

Killing the Risen High Wizard for the first time should yield something meaningful towards crafting Eternity (perhaps some charged Lodestones), with subsequent kills having chance at rewarding relevant lower tiered materials.

It makes playing different content more rewarding with an end-goal – not limited by some artificial daily reward chest that forces players to go around the world as if every world boss is some item on the bucket list of the day, and then everything being determined by some RNG-god. The fact that any exotic precursor sits at 1.4k gold is absolutely ludicrous.

This should be a game – not a job/chore.

What I think bugs me most about these topics is that suggestions for actual improvements are few and far between. What I usually see is “X is too expensive, therefore we need more X.” “I don’t have enough gold for X, therefore everyone needs to be getting more gold so I can have gold for X.” “I want a Y, therefore I deserve a Y, and why aren’t you giving me a Y?” When the things that are rare become commonplace, they also become worthless. And not just for one person, but for EVERYONE. When you dole out gold-encrusted baubles at every event, people are going to farm the bejeezus out of that event until gold-encrusted baubles are considered junk (substitute Elemental Blade for GW1 equivalent). When everyone has more gold to throw around, prices on unaffordable stuff is going to rise until it is unaffordable again (substitute precursors and legendaries).

If the game is not supposed to be a chore, then stop treating it like it is one. Set realistic goals for the pace you intend to keep. Get off the World Boss train if it isn’t fun. Is that legendary you put so much faith in changing your life still going to bring a smile when you flash it for the 30th time?

The Risen Wizard already has something similar in place. First kill: unlocks a trait. Followed by salvage items and the occasional tchotchke.

Oh, and fix Fractal rewards. Finishing an FotM 50 should yield at least 5 gold, not 1.4.

No. No it shouldn’t. Fractals have never been about getting rich. They have always been about being a harder challenge and the rewards were bragging rights and a small increment to stats.

Better I guess than that Russian girl asking my why I’m white). Also lots and lots of Colbert Report. So I’m kinda under the impression that most American’s wouldn’t be fine with the native american’s rising up and retaking their land.

Popular culture likes to paint Africa as still being effectively stone-age. The 5 o’clock news mainly focusing on terrorists in the backwater villages as opposed to life in the cities doesn’t really help.

Ley Line Connection With Southsun?

in Living World

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

I would prefer an Asura explanation of how they managed to focus energy in linear paths to transfer matter over “oh. Ley lines”.

I’d like an explanation of why a Dragon with access to conduits of magic wouldn’t just stay there absorbing it if that is their prime and natural function.

I’d like an explanation why all settlements have waypoints, and all waypoints are on ley lines, when some settlements predate waypoints, and then had those waypoints built in ignorance of ley lines. Pretty huge and needless chunk to digest, when the simple statement that Magic permeates the world has already been made.

With ley lines, we won’t get explanations. We will get more ley lines.

What I hate is what I see already happening. The “question” is already turning from “how and why” to “hmm. must be a ley line.”

Stifling. We are stuck with them, but I still cringe when I see them used to rationalize anything in game. Some things deserve their own mysteries and magics instead of hammering a ley line over them.

eyeroll
well, you’re not going to like what’s coming, seeing as they’re already hinting that every differing view of magic and the supernatural is actually just the lens of cultural perception looking at the same thing. The Gods, the dragons, the Eternal Alchemy, animal spirits – all the same thing, at different stages and with different masks.

Why’s the dragon not sitting idle any more? q.v. end of season 1. Already explained.

Why are all settlements on ley lines? Organisms are attracted to resources. q.v. http://www.wired.com/2010/01/slime-mold-grows-network-just-like-tokyo-rail-system/

Better question: are settlements set up on nexi because they can draw magic better from them, or do nexi form on settlements because of the confluence of magic there?

Dry Top kind of got back to Original Guild Wars with chests and lockpicks.

I think every map should have that kind of system, that you are able to buy and/or find keys and open chests put around the map and get items tied to the area, or something similar.

There are chests in every map, many not even behind jump puzzles, and they are all free. The drops tend to be better than gw1 chests (they’re both mostly trash, but you get more in gw2 plus a good chance at a gem), and you don’t have to spend 600g/1.5 plat (or the equivalent) to open them.

I have gotten a couple of exotics out of the free chest… of course, I’ve also gotten a Storm Bow or two in UW. So there’s good and bad to be had all around

Why the double Standard on Silk?

in Crafting

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

Not without a vicious outcry.

This never made sense to me. There’s no direct way to use Gems to buy more Scraps so there’s no “legal tender” precedent here. Furthermore:

When the game first got rolling and Soft Wood supply was completely over-saturating to the point they added another log required for refining AND temporary forge recipe to eat up as much of the overstock as they could, they didn’t suddenly say “Okay you are all indebted to us 25% more logs (back-Logs… get it?) now for all the Crafting progression you’ve already made”. When courts change a precedent, statutes of limitation on damages apply automatically to all cases that came before the decision was overturned (unless it was a human rights violation which obviously this situation IS NOT). There has to be some direct pre-existing cause for that level of entitlement which assumes that the buyer couldn’t possibly have known all the risks and at the same time proves that the acting company was actively concealing all evidence of said risks.

I’m not talking about courts and definitely not talking about level-headed behavior. ;D But I think you understand that.

Comparing the ascended crafting silk issue to the soft wood plank doesn’t work when you consider scale. To make that one plank, the time required to get one more soft log and the space to hold the other three that make it are a drop in the bucket (specifically “move to the next gummo sapling” and 3/250 of the bucket). To turn silk scraps into a bolt of damask takes more scraps than you can hold in a bank slot and the time requirement for the extra 150 scraps becomes ridiculous. Soft wood planks are used in fair quantities for only a low tier of weapons with little demand; damask is used in large quantities in every piece of ascended armor.

The idea that someone could have saved this time, effort and/or gold if they had waited just a little longer is what will set people off, because the cost is non-trivial. Never mind that ‘a little longer’ translates to 9 months and counting, that many WOULDN’T have waited. ANet took something that was effectively toilet paper and turned it into pennies in a system where anything else comparable was a $20 bill, then demanded you pay your grocery bill in pennies. This carries a double-whammy of “I’ve been throwing away gold for months,” by dumping silk when it was worthless and, “Now I can’t get enough fast enough” by hoisting the requirements through the roof. After almost a year of adjusting to that shock, having the system revert to something easier would be galling.
