Do you find GW2's controls easy?

Saturn.6591

I’m not quite sure; but I think you should actually be able to map skill 1 to your mousebutton.

It’s wrong that you can play FPS-games with only 4 keys + mouse. Well, you can. But you can also play GW2 with 4 (well… 5) keys haha. Let’s see… four keys for movement, a key to jump, a key to crouch/lay down, a key to sprint, a key for grenades, a key to activate the scope, a key to reload ammo, a key to change between fire-frequency, a key to use nightvision goggles or maybe binoculars, a key to interact… I’m sure there can be more; depending on the game.

Oh and yes, I find the controls of GW2 to be quite easy. Though I have remapped a few things (the most important being dodge to mouse 3 (wheel)). I’ve played some Splinter Cell games, a bit of Raven Shield and also Battlefield 2 on my computer (oh, and Far Cry 3 too; but that was after I started with GW2). The only MMORPG I’ve played before was Ragnarok Online, which is quite different from GW2. Of course you could argue that you (can) actually use 36 keys there just for skills, consumables and fast equipment-changes… but it’s still much more different from GW2 than FPS-games are.

Bug with Swear Word filter

in Forum and Website Bugs

Posted by: Saturn.6591

Saturn.6591

It’s because of what you get if you take a “t” and add “its”. Stuff like ’ actually manages to fool the filter; thus “it’s” doesn’t toggle it. That’s why I also don’t understand why they made the filter trigger on unwanted words with spaces in between… after all, it’s still possible to write those words with adding other stuff between letters, and all it does is messing up normal sentences.

Shattered Conditions, how does it work?

Saturn.6591

Hey guys, good info, but I need to point out that you’re not answering his question.

He’s asking about shattered conditions, not the boon removal trait, shattered concentration.

I don’t have much experience with either, so hopefully someone with more will chime in.

Lol; I was gonna say the same thing when I began reading the thread.

Well; as far as I know, you lose one condition for each clone shattered. That means up to 4 conditions removed with each shatter (doesn’t matter which one). I have no idea how much the range for allies is, though… I’d guess it’s not too far; maybe around 200 units or something. Meaning that allies would get one condition removed for every clone that shatters near/next to them.

Why does Anet let scammers happily play?

Saturn.6591

Actually I remember one guy having an intressting point at this “issue”. He said, scamming, thieving or what ever you want to call it, could actually be a role you take on as a player. After all you´re playing RPG fantasy game so I think the point is valid and the players who scam or thiev dont really brake any rules since they are after all using the “mechanics” that are at our disposal.

Negative. If you role play a theif then you ‘pretend’ to steal. If you are actually misleading players into sending you items through the mail with the promise to send them something in return you ARE a theif, you are not role playing one.

Dont really know how to respond to this without making it more complicated then it really is. If you steal you´re a thief no matter what. In real life there is legislation to stop it. In GW2 there are no formal rules afaik that tell you not to steal. If you can take advantage over the system that ArenaNet has given us to steal items from people I dont see that as something illegal, and yea you´re a thief in an RPG game. Thats what initially pointed out.

“While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players.

I think that covers it pretty well.

However; the only chance I see for the OP to get his items back is if he can provide detailed screenshots where both players agree to the trade. But I also think Anet generally doesn’t support mail-trading, so he/she’ll just have to live with the loss. Mail-trading is always risky, unless you know the other person very well.

Only problem with this theory is that in many “fantasy” settings, thieves get a hand removed as punishment for their crime. If you support thieving as a play-style to emulate a genre, then you should also support the consequence. In this case that would mean no more two handed weapons and no more off hand weapon. Sounds like justice to me.

…and I’d just like to add once more that if you go with the tallest female, you will in fact be taller than most males… since not all who play a male character will chose to make it as tall as possible.

So, as I stated in my earlier post here, it’s exactly like in real life: The tallest woman is still a bit smaller than the tallest man. However, the tallest woman will be taller than most men.

Bug with Swear Word filter

in Forum and Website Bugs

Posted by: Saturn.6591

Saturn.6591

I don’t really see why you would want to block words that are separated by a space anyway. I mean, if I want to write “who recognizes this character?”, I will have to avoid the filter with “who|recognizes” or something similar… but I could also do that to call someone a who|re if I wanted to (not like I’d do such a thing). That means filtering swear-words with spaces in between doesn’t prevent anyone from actual swearing/insulting, but it makes normal sentences hard to read because there’s kitten around every other corner.

Edit: Apparently, the “who recognizes” problem was indeed fixed; but I think there are still more words where stuff like this can happen.

If terror gets nerfed by 50-60%, I’m still going to chain fear you until your dead just to make you cry even more and request that fear should be completely removed.

Currently I’m running: 0,30,20,0,20
That will probably change to: 30,20,0,30 with runes of the necro just so I can get the longest fear duration possible. Oh I’ll also get giver’s stats on my weapons for +20% condition duration.

Am I really the first person to wonder how he’ll get 80 trait points?

It’s one of the rewards in the new Achievement Reward System, you can permanently add 10 extra trait points to any character on your account.

Lol; that would be hilarious.

The race in question is called humans. HUMANS. Yes, that’s what we are; they are based on rl-humans. In real life, women can be taller than men. Sure. Actually, my main character is a human female, and I’ve made her quite tall… not max-size, but tall. And guess what; she’s taller than most human males. Sounds familiar? However, the tallest males would be taller than me even if I would play the tallest female… human anatomy is just like that irl (which is what ingame-humans are based on) as well. The tallest rl-man is taller than the tallest rl-woman. Same counts for average size.

So yeah; I don’t see any problem here.

I’d also like to add that I can’t think of any mammal where the female generally is taller than the male. And since all GW2-races so far are mammals (except the Sylvari; but the pale tree designed them after humans)… go figure why the size choices are like they are.

The key to it all

Saturn.6591

My first MMORPG (and actually the only MMORPG besides GW2 I’ve played) was Ragnarok Online, on a private (and thus free to play) server. A lowrate one. Without any pay2win items and without having any wipes (that’s what we always were very proud of). I’ve played that game a lot, for many years. The server was quite successful, and had between 1 and 2k players at | its peak. I also became a forum mod at some point, and again later applied to become a GM, and even more later I got promoted to Senior GM. On a sidenote; you can believe me that posting screenshots as evidence when a banned botter brings up the excuse “it was my little brother playing” never gets old.

For those who don’t know it, Ragnarok Online is from Korea. And yes, there’s a lot of grind in it. A LOT. Your main means of leveling is by killing mobs, and you kill lots of them, and you kill even more the higher your level becomes. You’d usually try to mob them and kill them with AoE; be it in a party or solo. While the max-level is 99, you needed the same amount of exp from 95-99 like you needed from 1-95. And then comes rebirth… oh well. Oh; not to mention that droprates of 0,02% for the good stuff were quite common. Meaning you could get something with the first kill, or you could kill 20000 of the same monster and you still didn’t get the drop. All about luck. Oh, and I didn’t mention yet that you needed to (or at least should have to) use consumables (especially potions) while participating in War Of Emperium. Hmmhmm… there’s so much more that I could tell. Epic moments in WoE, or while partying. Or that I found friends with whom I’m still in contact and still meet irl from time to time. Or that at some point I’ve fallen in love with a girl who lives 12000 km away from me and I’ve actually visited her. Too bad it had to end after almost a year… it was awesome (despite the distance; though I think it was one of the factors that led to breaking up). Uhm… so many memories. ^^

And well, then came GW2. I actually got invited during the Lost Shores event (free trial) by a fellow GM. I was hesitant at first, but then decided to give it a try. I remember how my first character was a Norn, and how he showed me the Troll’s End jumping puzzle… and how I’ve spent around 5 hours (over two days) trying to finish it; all because the camera made it impossible to see anything. Nowadays I usually do it in a few minutes, haha. With a Human; but I tried it once with a Norn again and it also was a lot easier for me than back then. So well… obviously, I’ve decided to buy the game and sticked around ever since. I really like GW2 a lot. I love how rich the world feels; the nice story and lore (yes, I actually liked the personal story); the fact things like “killstealing”, “mobdropping” or “leveling by killing a bazillion mobs” simply don’t exist; that I’m playing for a couple of months already and there’s still so many things which I didn’t see yet, so many things yet to explore… and new stuff keeps coming with an incredible speed.

So yeah… while I really like to think back of the good old times in RO, and there’s also still stuff there I didn’t have a chance to do yet (after playing it for around 7 or 8 years), I simply wouldn’t be able to play it actively anymore. Too much grind; too much time-investment needed. But the memories of what felt like home for me are awesome.

GW2 is awesome. I do not and do not want to directly compare those two games, since they were made in a completely different era. They are also… well, different; haha. I’ve got many nice memories from RO; but now I’m enjoying Guild Wars 2.

Sorry for that long post, and sorry if I’ve repeated myself at some point. I just felt like I can’t make it any shorter.

A question about racist comments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saturn.6591

Saturn.6591

I know its been a while but another conversation made me return to this thought. I was in TS with some people and there was a bit of an argument about how to do a dungeon at one point one guy (who plays a charr) said to woman (who played a sylvari)

“Why don’t you shut your knot hole you no good salad head”

To which we all laughed, thinking this was an attempt to break tension and move on. The woman playing the sylvari then started again explaining her idea for what should be done. and was quickly interrupted by the charr player again who quite gruffly and obviously not joking this time said

“I said shut your G**D**** mouth you F****ing salad bowl. Why don’t you go roll a real toon instead of some hippy F**s lunch.”

At this point all of us were quite shocked and taken back. When we tried to call him out he claimed that he was just RPing and we should chill out since it was just a game…. and at that we all left his TS and went on to other things.

It may be “just a game”. It may have been “in character” but I tell you what else it was it was hurtful. Mean and no less disturbing than real world racism

The line between funny “racism” and real racism was crossed when that Charr player began to actually swear and when he told the Sylvari “to roll a real toon”. That can’t be excused with roleplaying, since excessive swearing and insulting is simply inexcusable and also because the Sylvari didn’t roll any toon. A Sylvari is not rolling toons. It’s the player that rolled one, and thus it obviously wasn’t roleplayed, but directed at the player behind the character. Real racism and player disrespect of any kind should be punished accordingly to the severity of the offence.

That being said, I have no problem with the “racism” as it currently is in the game. I actually find it to be quite amusing. It’s for entertainment. No bad intentions there. In the Sylvari personal story where you deal with evil Hylek, your character actually also makes jokes similar to “Yes, we were toad-ally surprised by that.” (I don’t remember the exact wordings, but I had a good laugh). Thing is, it’s not racism if it’s meant in a joking way. People and races should be able to laugh about themselves. As long as it’s not meant in a discriminating and really racist way, it’s okay. It’s funny, as long as it’s not overdone. Also, while some characters in the game really seem to be biased, it’s also always made clear that others don’t like that attitude and sometimes even try to open their eyes. What you also see in game is groups actively working on bringing the races together; the three orders being the most famous examples, I guess. It’s clearly shown in the game that you can achieve way more if you work together instead of against eachother.

So again. The “racism” in the game isn’t problematic in any way. It’s implemented just fine. It makes for some funny moments too, and gives the world some additional depth.

Edit: Haha, Sitkaz has beaten me with the comment about the toon-rolling part while I was typing all that.

You’re participating in WvW. Doing the jumping puzzle contributes nothing. You could easily farm 100+ badges an hour before the nerf.

You can easily farm as many zergtarding per hour.

That may be true for tier 1; dunno. But for me, jumping puzzles are BY FAR the fastest and most efficient way to get badges. When I zerg or run with a guild group, I get maybe 20 badges in two hours. If I’m lucky, that is. Simply because you don’t always get lootbags for kills, and in most of the lootbags there are no badges anyway. I remember getting a pile of around 10-15 lootbags while using an arrowcart… and getting like one badge out of them. Which in turn would mean that for 20 badges I’d need 100 kills (if you double the rate from that example). And that’s pretty much impossible… at least from what I’ve seen.

Maybe I’m just terribly unlucky with badge-drops ever since I started playing WvW, though.

Cool story. I’m not speaking about other elites here I’m specifically talking about MOA.

Every other Elite is far more useful than Moa, because Moa is useless. Your argument is invalid.

Regardless of what all you pro-moa clowns are saying this thread is addressed to the devs – any skill that removes all abilities (even utilities) for the victim renders the toon a sitting duck for 10 seconds. The 5 ability has also been nerfed.. Since you guys are so focused on balancing the game in the next patch why dont you give thieves ballisk venom a 10 second buff and remove the ability to use a stun break because pretty much that has the same effect as a MOA. While you’re at it give eles the ability to turn people into a block of ice that removes all their abilities. for 10 seconds.

Just throwing out ridiculous abilities that don’t belong in the game so you can see how ridiculous this ability is.

To say it using your words: Regardless of what ridiculous things you anti-moa clown say. Moa will still be useless. Also, your suggestions are hilarious. While you’re a Moa, you can still move. You even get a skill that lets you run away. While you’re under the effects of basilisk venom (without being able to stunbreak it), or while you would be an ice block, you can not move an inch. You can do NOTHING. While you’re a Moa, you can freely run around and you even get a skill that lets you run away faster.

Well, that’s probably because such traits pop if you’re hit under a certain percentage of HP. Seeing that the backstab did 15k damage, you were very likely at 50% or above before… and not around 25%.

But yeah, the only thing you can do is try to react fast… after you get hit by steal or the C&D, dodge and try to get out of reach. Heal if necessary and begin fighting back. It’s not easy, but doable with some practice.

Where did I say it was OP in my post exactly and why did you quote my post specifically when there are plenty of other people posting about how them getting it is completely unwarranted?

Let’s hope that Mesmers and Thieves getting Torment was also removed.

Why would you want them to not get it if you wouldn’t think that it would make them too powerful (aka OP)? And you said it in such a way that made it look like everyone agrees with you on that, and that it actually would be really bad if they get it. So I took the freedom to tell you to get your facts straight, and that the way it would apparently be implemented for Thieves and Mesmers won’t make much of a difference. Some even say no Thief with half a brain would want to use it, aside from PvE maybe. But yeah… according to you we should all hope they won’t get it, because it would totally break the game and they would become too powerful…

I would also like to know how “hoping” that the two strongest professions in the game don’t get a shiny new toy is the same as “crying”

1. There’s no such thing as a “strongest profession”.
2. That toy wouldn’t be nearly as shiny as you think. For Mesmers it might have an average color, and for Thieves it would probably be quite rusty and unappealing. If it gets added like described in those leaked notes, that is.

when clearly other professions need more attention to begin with.

Maybe you’ve missed it, but there are big changes made to every single profession in the game.

Or… were you just wanting to troll and decided to pick the first post you read?

I already explained why I’ve picked your post. And no, I’m not trolling. I’m probably the last person in this forum who would want to troll people.

I’m also thinking Long Reach getting Steal to 1500 + Sleight of Hand going to 2s stun on steal + lowered recharge time on steal might be a bit much to all pile together. Yes, everyone has access more stun breakers, and most of them will have lower recharge than Steal even after the change,

I’m not eactly familiar with how much the Trickery line reduces the recharge time of Steal, but if the formula on the discussion page of the wiki is correct, Thieves could end up using Mug every 21 seconds. That’s damage+shadowstep+stolen item+more than 2k heal every 21 seconds. Quite nice for Thieves (if they build that way, that is).

See it this way: If you’re weakened, you might still land a good-aimed hit, but it will still have less impact (than it would normally have) as you can’t hit as hard… due to being weakened. So yes, it does make perfect sence for me. Just the actual glancing-message doesn’t… but you can ignore that. The mechanic itself makes perfect sense.

But they’ve got some nice characters as well, and they can look quite cute… especially a female charr doing the /sleep emote just looks so adorable haha. Place 4 would be Asura I guess. I’ve seen female Asura which are VERY pretty imo. I’ve also seen really cute ones, and some that are both. But obviously, one would feel a bit pedo I guess… and the sharp teeth (which I think they have, but you never really see them) would scare me a bit hahaha. Not going into details here. ;P Then, on place 3 we’ve got Sylvari. There are Sylvari which actually are quite pretty; some even hot. What I’m sometimes wondering is, how the “skin” of a Sylvari feels like. Is it like tree bark? Or more like soft leaves? Whatever. Place 2 are Norn. There are really good-looking ones, and the only disadvantage might be their size. I mean… imagine her being two times as tall as you. Or at least 50% taller. Meh. Then the obvious, humans on place 1. Simply because they are from the same race. Of course I’ve seen human females where I’d say that I’ve seen Norn, Sylvari or even Asura which look prettier. But still… generally spoken, humans are the best fit.

I’m aware that this listing may be a bit silly and also not really answering the question of the topic. But that’s because I can’t answer that one. Each race has really nice female characters… also mind you, beauty isn’t only defined by physical appearance. It’s a part of it, but not the only one. I wouldn’t be able to make a ranking based on attractiveness… because each race has pretty females and you simply can’t compare their attractiveness (due to being from different races). Instead, I provided my ranking of “likelihood of a relationship if it would be possible”. ^^

So are those patch notes real or fake?

Well. The fifth Death Shroud skill has a different name in the leaked patchnotes as opposed to the blog post.
The patchnotes are also written with worse grammar and composition than previous patch notes.
However, there are plenty of fixes which leads me to believe that these patchnotes are an early version of what is to come. Something the devs have used for internal use.
Since these patchnotes the Death Shroud skill has gotten a new name, and therefore we might also see other changes.

I’d say it’s safe to assume they are a good indication of what we can expect, but we should take lightly on specific changes.

Someone went through a lot of trouble to make them, so I think they are real.

If they are fake, then that troll deserves a medal.

Those two pretty much sum up my opinion about those patchnotes.

One does not simply walk through an Asura Gate..

xD

Hmmhmm, then I guess I’m not one. Maybe I’ve got a splitted personality? o.o

I always just walk through normally.

Uhm, my first character was a Thief, but my main is a Mesmer. I still play the Thief sometimes of course (like my other characters), but my Mesmer is the only character I have that is at lvl 80. And I’m playing since october… so yeah. Well.

I’ve sticked to Mesmer because I like the gameplay, I like the concept of confusing my opponents, of making them regret that they messed with me… also, many of the skills are two-sided… good for me, bad for you. I like that concept. I may not look that strong, but once you attack me, you’ll not know anymore if you can still trust your mind.

Another thing I’d like to mention is, that I play females and males (irl I’m male), and I ALWAYS play a good person. I can’t be evil. I can’t. For example in Fable 1, I wanted to try playing an evil character (after playing some good ones)… yet, I did/could never chose the evil option during quests (for example I didn’t kill my friend in the arena), and I ended up “provoking” guards so they attacked me and I could slaughter tons of them (hey, THEY attacked ME) to get the evil looks. For some reason, I didn’t continue playing that char. So yeah… I can’t play evil. I’m not evil. I would only ever resort to something evil if it would be absolutely necessary for some reason. If I play a char that’s supposed to have an evil background or something, I try to play it in a way of “my powers are evil, but I use them for the good side”. Hmmmhm. I think that sounds silly to some of you. ^^

I also tend to spend quite some time with chosing a name for my characters. I want them to fit the personality and story I associate with this character.

Do they look underpaid in the video?

Yes: some don’t even have shoes! :P

As we know, that doesn’t have to mean anything. Queen Jennah doesn’t wear shoes either. Even though I’ve personally never noticed that (neither would I mind it)… but people use(d) to say so. ^^

That was a joke… I thought the “:P” would be self-explanatory. Apparently not.

It was. But I also thought it’s obvious that my answer isn’t meant in a bad way. If it was, I wouldn’t have mentioned Queen Jennah, but called you out (kinda) for thinking only poor people don’t wear shoes (sometimes). Maybe I should have written it like “But… but… Queen Jennah doesn’t wear shoes either! So it doesn’t have to mean anything! I guess… o.o”

^^

Some people like cats. Like the young lady in my short story below:

Every night before she would fall asleep, Cindy would lie on her bed and gently play with her kitten. It was always the same, the kitten was timid at first – shy to the touch, but the more she played with her kitten the more her kitten enjoyed it.

You see? Cindy likes her kitten.

Lmao.

Haha; I think I’ve read something similar to this before. ^^

The latest example I’ve noticed is, if you want to express that some rune-combination gives you a shorter boon-duration as another one… it gives less | boon-duration… kitten on-duration.

Seriously; to describe women that love women (is that even a bad word?) it would have on s too much.

On the funny side, I sometimes find myself using “kitten” while thinking, and being tempted to actually use the word even when there’s no filter. And that comes from a guy who almost never curses (and if I do, then not really bad).

Oh and I just remembered… our server’s forum… one person said “I’m a kitten” and another one replied something like “not sure if actual kitten or word so foul that it even got censored over here”.

Hm well; I think I could switch Epidemic in instead of WoS when I have to fight at range. Talking about which; in fights where I have to stay at a long range I will/would probably use a staff with a Sigil of Strength instead of dagger/warhorn.

Sigil of Paralyz works on fear & exceeds cap

EDIT: It is also horribly buggy…. i can literally equip a weapon with the sigil, have it work, equip another weapon with the same sigil, and the sigil does nothing… I hate it when the game does things like this with no rhyme or reason….

I feel a bit bad for asking this, since I think you surely know about it… but uhm… fear was the only condition on the target when you tested this, right?

First, you don’t say what these builds are for: PVE,PvP or WvW?

Mainly PvE I guess. Maybe some WvW too (then probably adding a staff for group/zerg-fights… just because of the range and AoE. Maybe even get a second set for a condition-build… who knows).

One misleading thing on that calculator is that it acts as if the Dark Armor trait is active. So, the toughness on the Power build is really only 1375 when not channeling.

I know; I’ve mentioned it in my post.

I prefer Epidemic over the WoS, but that’s just my personal choice.

Well, Epidemic is quite useless in a power-build; mainly because I don’t stack any damaging conditions myself and I also don’t have much condition damage. Of course I could epidemic vulnerability and chill, or even immobilize… haha actually, that sounds quite funny. But I’m afraid the practical uses are very limited, and I can really use that additional AoE-damage from the well.

The second build is interesting; hard to tell how effective it would be in practice.

Yeah, I’ve got the same problem.
