Can’t really give you much advice right now as I don’t have the time to do so (should be sleeping already haha).
What I can tell you is, that Empowered Illusions as well as Empowering Mantras are nearly useless in a condition build. Both only work for direct damage, which is naturally low in a condition build.
After all that ascended-grinding of doom in the most grindy game ever
Lol. Clearly, you’ve never played some of the other MMORPG’s. You know… games where it takes ages to reach max-level. Where you can’t switch traits and stuff anymore, or even stats. Where you need potions and other consumables for some of the harder content. Where you maybe even need consumables to be able to use some of your skills.
GW2 the most grindy game ever? Lol. Just lol.
What if an opponent just kites you? With 30 in Trickery, you can have Steal on a 21 seconds cooldown. But that’s about the only gap-closer you have with P/D.
Toughness vs vitality. What should he limit be for building up toughness before starts losing its value over vitality.
Generally said, vitality helps more against conditions and is also more useful in short fights. In long fights or against direct damage, toughness helps more as soon as you heal.
However, someone also somewhen calculated that the ideal ratio for survivability is 1:10 (amor:health). According to this, if you have 2000 armor and 12000 health, adding vitality instead of toughness helps your survivability more until you reach 20000 health points, where they become equal.
I don’t really know how much of it really is true though, as I don’t exactly remember how that was found out and what factors were taken into consideration.
Would a charr not feel very hungry whenever they are around Skritt? Just saying….., they should be afraid, very afraid!
Lol.
And Chaos: are SoHydromancy bugged? I tried them out on both Staff and GS, but for some reason it didn’t always activate during combat. Any ideas?
I’m not Chaos, but I can still tell you this was probably because you’re still using the fire sigil on your other weaponset. They share their cooldown. That means if your fire-sigil triggered in the last 5 seconds, nothing will happen if you swap to the weapon with the hydromancy-sigil, since it is on cooldown as well.
As Mungrul points out, the players who have multiple legendaries, ascended etc have the easiest combat in the game. Therefore making them as far from the best players as possible. The best players are those who do the same content without all the window dressing.
Well now you’re wrong. Of course it’s easier to fight in exotics than to fight in greens or blues; but that doesn’t mean that someone who usually fights in exotics is less skilled than someone who usually fights in greens. The person in exotics could maybe do better in greens than the person who always wears greens. What tier of gear you’re wearing doesn’t tell anything about how skilled you are; it just means the fights are a little bit easier for you by default.
there is no wrong or right, there is only opinion and mine matters as much as yours…or are you going to be elitist about that also?
your last line agreed with me.
Lol; I’m far from being an elitist.
What I’m saying (and you’re apparently ignoring, so I’ll explain it again) is, that having better gear doesn’t make you a worse player. Having worse gear requires a bit more skill for the same content as having better gear does, but it does not mean that someone with better gear automatically has lower skill. In fact, it’s very possible that someone with better gear also has higher skill. He NEEDS a bit less skill than the person with “bad” (meaning lower rarity, like greens instead of exotics) gear, but he still can have the same or even more skill than the bad-geared person.
Technically, buying BL keys and buying thousands of BL chests is the faster way,
How that? I don’t remember that you get exp from opening them. Do they drop exp-scrolls or something?
I was never running MF-gear. However, since they added account-wide magic find, I’ve got the feeling that the loot indeed gets better the more MF I have. Of course I don’t notice that every percent, but like every 10-20% I think I’m actually getting a bit better loot again (that’s because you obviously wouldn’t be able to notice 1%-changes). Right now, I’m at 93% MF. I’ve never really cared about MF (as I never got MF-gear for example, and I never use MF-food), but I really like it as a kind of additional bonus. It’s nice, and it really seems to help a bit with the overall droprate of better stuff. After all, I almost never got any rare drops before. Now it didn’t only start happening, it also became a bit more frequent over time. I’ve even had a few exotic drops already! And that’s really something that never happened before account-bound MF.
And about how MF works… well, I always thought it’s like a multiplier of some kind. Like, if the chance for a green item dropping would be at 15%, it would be 30% if you have 100% magic find. If your magic find is 200%, it would be a 45% chance. If the chance for a rare drop is at 1% base, you would have a 2% chance for it with 100% MF. 3% if your MF is 200%.
Edit: The theory about the droprate of items being affected by what they cost on the trading post is just ridiculous. The rates would need to change all the time. Precursors already wouldn’t drop at all anymore, because their price kept going up since release and they already were a very rare drop back then. Also, stuff that can’t be sold on the trading post would either not drop at all, or drop all the time.
Obviously, the price of stuff on the tp depends (among other things) on how often it drops; and not the other way around. Geez; that’s like saying “I’m hungry, thus I don’t eat lunch today”, when I’d obviously be hungry because I didn’t eat lunch.

There’s a cat that runs around chasing a rat in the north camp areas of the Borderlands maps in WvW.
Lol; I certainly need to check that next time I’m there! Though, it may be that I’ve already seen it once… not sure. Anyway; I’ll take a look for sure!
the idea of charging us to swap servers for a game like this, with so much dynamic content, is a horrible and greedy idea to begin with,
I don’t see your problem. You can guest for free, and that’s all you need to do to do anything PvE-related. On top of that, you can do dungeons cross-server without even needing to guest. The only thing you’d need to actually transfer (and pay) for, is if you want to WvW for another server. Everything else is completely free. So again… what are you even talking about? Greedy, because it’s for free?
His problem is that the OP suggested ANet charge for guesting to solve something that isn’t a problem (guesters filling up the slots, it’s a symptom not a problem and most of us would rather the problem be addressed and not the symptoms).
Oh right; I totally forgot the actual topic of this thread for a moment. I’m sorry. ^^
Zojja is missing in action. She’s the one iconic not to have made an appearance in Living Story yet.
Hmmm… Eir and Rytlock during Flame and Frost. Logan during the gauntlet. But Caithe? I don’t remember seeing her anywhere during the Living Story.
Oh, and I just remembered two more Necros: Priestess Rhie and Soure Doomsday; both from the personal storylines.
You are right there, I experienced this myself. When on my server I could use the right-click option without a problem, but when guesting on another server and landing on an overflow the option is not there. Meaning this taxi-option is only given to the native players of the server.
That’s actually really nice then. It means that server-native players still have a bit of an edge over those that are guesting, which is how it should be an what many players already demanded before.

We are usually able to maintain a good amount of swiftness, but it requires taking 20 in Arcana or 10 in Air.
- You only need 5 in air, not 10.
Well; for swiftness you indeed need 10 points, as the minor trait doesn’t grant swiftness. What it does is, it lets you run 10% faster while attuned to air.
Okay, then explain me the following scenario:
1. People waypoint from LA to Sparkfly and end up in an overflow.
2. Those people ask in guildchat for taxi.
3. Those people get invited to party.
4. Those people right-click the portrait of someone in the party who’s on the main map and chose “Enter Sparkfly Fen”.
5. Those people get a short loading screen and are on the main map.The fact that they end up in an overflow means the map is softcapped. The fact that they can get to the main-map with right-click-transfer means that it works. Or did I miss something?
Now that you say you’re in TTS… maybe people who are guesting can not do that? Maybe people who guest need to use the other method? If so, then “native” players indeed have a bit of an advantage over guesting players already.
What you are missing is that we’ve been telling you THERE IS NO OPTION TO RIGHTCLICK-JOIN when you’re trying to get into a main (non-overflow) map! Check it when you’re playing again. There. Is. No. Such. Option. You can rightclick-join your friends in overflow but NOT in main maps. The only option to get through soft cap is join someone in a party who’s already in the main map and then zone in onto that map from an adjacent zone and hope you’re lucky. There is no other way.
Did you even read what I just wrote? Point 1 to 5? It appears for everyone in the Tequatl-guild of our server, there IS such an option. We are using it EVERY DAY. I myself did so last time yesterday, because there already was an overflow when I entered Sparkfly. But I had no problems at all to right-click taxi onto the main map after I got invited into a party with someone who’s already there. Maybe you guys have another client? Or maybe it’s just like I guessed, and it has to do with people who are only guesting maybe not being able to right-click transfer to main maps, but “native” players being able to? It baffles me how you insist that this option doesn’t exist, when me and 90 other people use it on a regular basis.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
Would be kinda cool if Scarlet does something really bad; in the end she notices how wrong she was and how she did so many wrong, bad and evil things. She regrets (like: truly regrets from the bottom of her heart), and we eventually give her the opportunity to make up for what she did by joining us in our fight against the dragons. The pale tree could play some kind of a role in this as well; like embracing a once lost child.
Yes, I admit: I like happy ends. ^^
I have a solution. What if we LoS Burnfall into the Warrior subforum and get him to post a rant about Healing Sig,
Lol! xD
A “soft cap” would be something like 90 players already on the main server. Any new players trying to WP in will automatically go into the overflow. The only people that can get in is if someone is partied, and enters through a map portal.
Right-click on the portrait of someone in your party who’s on the main map and chose “Enter map xy”. Works perfectly fine until it’s hardcapped. No need to enter the map through a map-portal.
Only works for joining ppl in overflow maps, not in main maps.
And I’m telling you we always taxi in from overflow to main-map with right-click —> enter sparkfly.
No. Once the map is “soft capped”, you cannot right click to join on the main. You must enter Spark Fly from an adjoining map to bypass the cap. I’m in TTS, and we fill maps on guest servers daily, so I have a bit more experience regarding full maps.

Piercings are smexy :P
For me it’s the exact opposite. Every cell of my body starts to revolt if I even think about touching one. Looking at them is already bad enough.
then again for each his own
Indeed. There are people who are literally obsessed with them. I’ll never understand it, but it’s obviously the case. ^^
The girl from the portrait has one, so I added it to look more like her :P
Hehe, okay. Yeah; makes sense then. ^^
Edit: Piercings or not; your drawing skills are amazing. That’s a fact imo. ^^

A lot of people all guesting to the same server is probably the only way Teq is currently being killed on a daily base.
Well, I can assure you it’s not the only way; at least not on the server I am. We usually kill it twice every day.
With help of an army of people guesting on your server. Blacktide, Desolation… ppl know Teq’s getting killed there regularly and guest. I highly doubt there’s ONE server where Teq would be killed without a lot of ppl guesting.
Nope; I can assure you we’re at least 90-95% non-guesting players every time. And also, I’m neither on Blacktide, nor Desolation.
Cool; looks really nice! Awesome drawing!
I’m not into piercings at all, though; so I’d not hit on her (like Azure would). ^^

I “fear” no-one. But I have to say the classes that generally give me most trouble are Necros, Thieves and Elementalists. If they know what they are doing, they are usually able to drop me without me (playing condition Mesmer) ever being able to seriously harm them. And every time I wish I could fight them a couple times more to practice and try to improve. But there I am, laying dead on the ground and knowing they will be long gone until I’m there again. And even if I feel great respect due to them outplaying me so much, I can’t even /bow or something… after all, I’m dead. Corpses don’t make emotes. And saying something in chat won’t work either.

Why are you using Death Blossom to dodge in the first place? Why are you not just using a normal dodge?
Well, if your eyes are all bleary and you would even sell a precursor by accident, you really shouldn’t be playing at this point. And if you are… clean your inventory next time you log in. It won’t run away. No amount of locking an item will help you with this, as you might as well forget to do so or lock the wrong item at this point. ^^
As for switching weapons; it works perfectly fine as long as you’ve got the same amount of weapons in each weaponswitch. Let’s say I run with mainhand+offhand and an offhand in the second weaponswitch. If I exchange the offhands, the mainhand, or if I exchange the second switch-slot for a twohanded weapon, the weapons always will rotate at the very same place in the inventory. Just if I decide to use two different mainhands or use two twohanded weapons, it will mess things up. That’s because weapons that you unequip usually try to switch places with those that you equip.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
Bad people wearing PVT will still die.
Lol; awesome.
Also, when I’ve read “very stun much dislike not wow”, I had a good laugh xD.
Well, invisible bags always worked perfectly fine for me. And also, I always look at what I’m selling/salvaging. You can also buy something back that you sold to an NPC by accident.
So I don’t really see a problem there myself.
Hello Kitty isn’t part of the initial release of GW2. Does that mean we might get Hello Kitty soon?
They even hint at it with the forum-filter (kitten); so it’s actually even more likely than Elona!!!
Where did the OP’s post go lol
That’s what happens if an OP deletes his post. For some reason you can’t delete a thread you’ve made, but you can delete your posts; even if that post is the first post in a thread. That’s why we sometimes see such topics… topics without a first post. Happens every now and then.
So yeah; OP deleted his post.
Q: What does “support” mean in reference to Ele in PvE?
A: Might stacking, fire fields, blast finishers, permanent fury, LH blinds, Healing Mist, superior dmg
What it does not mean is any sort of “support build” involving vitality, toughness, or healing power stats.
However, if you’re running with less organized groups, or with groups that don’t go for speedruns, adding some of those stats won’t hurt at all and might in some cases even be recommended. ESPECIALLY if you’re new to playing Ele or if you feel that you might have gotten a bit rusty with it.
^Writing this especially for new players who might read this thread while looking for advice.

What are the best icons in the game for you?
I will start: Unidentified Dye
Lol wow; I’ve never looked at this icon so closely before. Looks nice!
Can’t really put a vote in here yet, but I’ll probably do so soon (after I’ve taken a much closer look at more icons for a while).
(edited by Saturn.6591)
This is why Rabid necros exist over Carrion, since the trait line any condition necro takes has both condition damage and healing power.
Now that’s actually wrong; it’s condition damage and precision. Healing power and vitality are in a traitline that most Necros don’t really use, as it’s considered quite bad overall (at least in PvP/WvW) unless you want to trait well-cooldowns.
I think the reasons why Necros go for Rabid over Carrion are on-crit procs, their already high base-hp and the fact that Necro condition weapons scale absolutely terrible with power, thus the power on Carrion would be a complete waste.
That being said; what do you guys think about a P/D Thief going for mostly Carrion? I think it makes some difference in terms of direct damage added, since CnD and Pistol 1 scale decently with power afaik.
Lol; I just imagined characters in GW2 talking like japanese anime-characters do. That’d somehow be funny and cute at the same time xD. Then again, I wouldn’t get to see it outside of the occasional youtube-video I guess. ^^
Lmao; a Necro shooting rainbows!
Too bad they can’t equip bows; a Necro shooting unicorns would be hilarious as well. XD
I actually know someone who would surely enjoy this, haha. Totally gonna mention this to him next time we talk.
im not saying thieves are hard to kill or anything. But when all else fails they start the evade spam.
And no im not talking about me. I probably have less forum time since release then you do in a week. I actuly like to play the game instead of coming on forums and reading this stuff. I only post when abusive cheese is being run and no one speaks a word of it.
Hold on. How exactly can a Thief abuse Shortbow 3 then? I mean, it doesn’t make them harder to kill, it doesn’t actually let them escape (Shortbow 5 is much better for this purpose), it doesn’t kill you, it doesn’t… well, you get the point (I hope). So, what exactly is the benefit for a Thief spamming Shortbow 3 then? And if there’s none, how is it an abuse? Oh wait… maybe they are abusing themself by mindlessly burning their initiative, so they can be killed more easily. Right; that needs to be prevented. Some thieves should be protected from their own stupidity! I demand that every time a Thief uses Shortbow 3 more than once, they will see in huge red letters “You are gimping yourself!” on their screen!
I’ve never heard of Teldo. Does that make me a bad player?
^^
Edit: “Not just spamming nades”… yeah well, I think this is true for pretty much every player who’s actually successfully playing Engineer. Because “just spamming grenades” will not help against any decent player.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
how is “joining a group, but then found that the group is not to your liking and then leave the group” considered an abuse ?
If I recall correctly, the LFG tool shows how many people and what professions are already in the group before you join. So the only thing you can’t see is AP. Feels scummy to me.
Ohh I have seen so many times people leave becouse they notice for example Necros going full signet users or warriors with banners and Cleric gear and so on. Some players need this perfect setup before they can play a dungeon. They rather spend a day finding the perfect PUG to speed-run the dungeons rather than taking their time in the dungeon and enjoying it’s full content.
Anyway, on to topic;
I think it is worth to report. I hate players who greif players who are actually trying to play the game as it is meant to be played.
Well, that’s not even the problem here. They can leave, fine. But why would they actually cancel the group advertising if not to grief?
We just wanted to respond to the image that has been data-mined from the Edge of the Mists testing branch.
This is a testing branch. We conduct internal experiments for various territories on our testing branches. This particular experiment is not being tested for the West.
As always, keep in mind that we test a lot more than we ship, so data-mining is no guarantee of anything. If we have announcements to make about future content, we’ll make them through the usual official channels.
Thank you very much for the clarification.
Edit: May I suggest closing this thread now? Because the amount of tinfoil that’s wasted on hats here sure isn’t good for the environment.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
Do you people even play the game? When cry babies make post after post on one thing and it gets nerfed
You’re talking about yourself, right? Clearly, you have no idea about the game, and even less about playing a Thief.
And no, I don’t main Thief. And yes, I’ve got my kitten handed to me by Thieves before. I also manage to kill them from time to time. And believe me when I say that I’ve never seen one using Shortbow 3. That skill is mainly useful to kite NPC’s which you don’t want to melee. No sane person would use it in a 1vs1 or 1vsX; especially not multiple times in a row.
k… gonna lay out some ground rules here guys…
If you have a SB and:
Evade once, you’re fine, you’re just using SB…
Evade twice, people will start to be suspicious of you…
God forbid you evade three times, you’re perma evading….
Anything more then three times you’re surely using the perma evade spec…
Lmao xD.
I’d write more, but I really need to go sleep now. But:
With Mesmer, I’m pretty much able to Channel around the same amount over a long, long range which can’t really be missed, because of the channeling-type attack;
It’s actually really hard to land this attack on anyone paying attention. Many people just dodge it, as it has a long windup before anything happens. Other people just move to your side or behind you, and the skill will go on cooldown without anything happening. Shatters are easily dodged as well. Also, if you shatter, you sacrifice clones and/or phantasms, which is also something you need to consider if it’s really worth it and if you can replace them fast.
An engineer can actually pull you and apply 5 stacks instantly with Pry Bar. Also concussion bomb is an AoE and easier to land than a shatter, without drawback. Pistol 3 applies only two stacks (4 with optimal conditions), but hits much more reliable than scepter 3 of Mesmers and also comes with an useful blind on top of that. Last but not least, Engineers also have more and more convenient access to interrupts than Mesmers (which comes into play greatly if you use Perplexity runes). So yeah, for confusion, Engineers are king imo.
And nope, I don’t main Engineer. I main Mesmer and use a condition build since I’ve created her. Of course I also have other equipment sets by now, but I’ve played condi from 1 to long after reaching lvl 80, and I still use a condition build in WvW and sometimes PvE.
Soothing wave has an internal cooldown of 10 seconds, so it’s roughly the same
Hm, that’s right. So theoretically, both have their pros and cons. Soothing Wave can remove conditions without you needing to change to water. However, if you fight a condition build who uses full carrion or full dire, it becomes kinda useless. Cleansing Wave on the other hand is more reliable here, but it requires you to set water attunement on cooldown if you maybe just want to cleanse an immobilize, cripple or chill, or even poison without actually having a need for healing (yet).
Overall it seems like Cleansing Wave is the better choice. Though… that little bit of extra-regeneration sure wouldn’t hurt.
Oh, and also thanks for that hint considering aggressive play. I mean, I never really camped water myself, though it feels a bit tempting to spam the autoattack to get the healing from the signet and the automatic regeneration. But obviously, you are right with what you’ve said haha. I actually noticed this when I just tried to solo the two troll champions in Caledon forest today (and actually made it). It really helps a lot to just cast what you need/can cast in water, cast number 2 the last and immediately switch to something else. Even on lvl 36 with subpar equipment getting downscaled haha. I feel like my understanding of the D/D-ele has grown a fair bit.
@OP: Most of what I’ll say was already said in some way, but I’ll add my point of view anyway (bear in mind that I’m not an expert, though). Using Updraft as an opener isn’t something I personally would do, as I see it more like an “oh sh…”-button and gap-creator. Also, if you run around in water, you can actually cleanse less conditions than when you run around in another attunement, since you can already get some cleansing just by switching to water. I’d suggest running around in air (you also have 10% increased movement-speed and access to swiftness with an aura there since you go 10 points into the air-traitline), then switch to water if you need to cleanse right away and from there to fire, or switch to fire directly to set up the first burst (usually Burning Speed I guess, followed by what’s possible in the given situation). To be honest, it kinda surprises me that you’re listing such a long opener. You’ve leveled your Elementalist to 80 in PvE… did that really always work just like that? I myself often find that I have to adapt many times during the fight, and my Ele is only lvl 37 by now. I can intend to do some things and sometimes I can also do those things, but quite often I also need to change my plans on the fly. I can just guess that you’re newer to the game than I am, thus I’ve got a little advantage there.
I suggest you try to solo some of the easier champions and work your way up. I’m sure you’ll learn to adapt fast, and not rely too much on written-in-stone rotations.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
Nice picture.
For me, this would also be some kind of a punch below the belt (no idea if that saying actually exists in english).
But yeah, looking at how the picture looks and all, it might as well be part of this year’s april fools joke (as others already guessed as well). I really hope so.
I would advise taking cleansing wave in the water tree master tier if you switch to SoR.
Doesn’t Soothing Wave cleanse conditions more frequently in combination with the Grandmaster trait? Since you’ll probably get hit by crits quite frequently if people apply conditions to you, and every time you get regeneration and a condition removed. Compared to one single condition cleanse every time you switch to water, that seems like a much better choice. Or did I miss something?
or drop the sword and go for a GS shatter build instead, its better and gives lots of stealth and mobility, it isnt obvious like the over used osicat shatter, Uses GS and Sw/T
That’d be Hidden Cat then.
(Couldn’t help but point this out, since you had to mention Osicat haha. ^^)
if anything that guy isnt even using grenades LOL
The simple fact that this is the first line of your post is a problem in itself, but if you, by default, assume a build is bad simply for not having grenades, your closed mind will limit you greatly. If they want to build a SD build and were smart enough to realize that they have alternatives that they find more fun and of greater damage value to their play, why do you feel you need to mock and belittle that.
He already defended himself, but I can’t help but still write what I thought when I’ve read this post:
Read the OP again, then look at the video which is meant to prove OP’s point, and then read Rezzet’s post.
What Rezzet was lol-ing about wasn’t a build without grenades. It was about the fact that a video of an SD-build was posted to prove that Engineers are overpowered because of grenades.
(edited by Saturn.6591)
Engineers are better at stacking confusion than Mesmers; especially when using Perplexity runes.
Uh, now that’s a really nice view! =0

Thanks for sharing. ^^
Now while talking about looking exactly the same and confusing people…:

What’s “Umbra”? o.o
So much technical talk in this thread; one must be a game artist or something similar to understand even just half of it.
