Potential for kittenery everywhere but nope. Have friendship, kittens and rainbows.

Edit: That kitten filter is a good example. Replaces words with Kitten.

Staff Thief revealed this Week!

Hope it will not be condition oriented…

Me too. Staff doesn’t really seem like a condition weapon to me. We’ll find out soon enough though!

Smacked with a staff in the;
head -> daze
crotch -> stun
liver -> knockdown
kidney -> chill
leg -> cripple
hip -> immobilize
nose/mouth -> bleeding
temple – > blindness
chest -> weakness

Good point. A few of those are CC, and I wasn’t really considering those as conditions, silly me. I guess I’m mostly saying that I want it to be a reliable source of AoE damage as well.

Thief with a staff!
What’s next? Fluffy feathers in each hand to tickle our enemy to death?

Ya wanna try getting cracked over the head with a bo staff and tell me how much that tickles?

It’s not about the damage a staff can do, it’s about the notion of a Thief with a staff. Why not give him an elephant companion. That should fit the role of a thief just as good as a staff.

I dunno, I think the concept of a roving vagabond with a staff fits quite well in my opinion, and I like it. More so than an… uh, elephant companion.

Looking at the Warrior adrenaline change, it is only fair that our Initiative should have a based max of 15 initiatives and remove/replace Preparedness from our trait.

Very much agree. Trickery should be an optional spec line, but it feels mandatory for many players. I know I use it on both of my thieves.

Staff Thief and Monkey King Animations?

in Thief

Seabreeze.8437

100% agree. If this is how we dodge and jump while specced i will be happy. I don’t like the way the staff is wielded however.

Thanks! As far as the stance goes, I personally like it a lot and believe that it fits the theme very well, but mostly I’m hoping they don’t just recycle the 2-handed hammer stance like they did with revenant. That doesn’t even really look like an appropriate staff stance to begin with, and it’d look all the more weird on thieves.

We’ll find out soon enough, but if the animations are lacking, I’ll let Anet know about it (in addition to class mechanics as well, of course).

Staff Thief and Monkey King Animations?

in Thief

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

With the elite spec teaser showing off the staff as our new weapon, I’m definitely hoping that resources from the Monkey King tonic will be incorporated into the thief’s animations. I especially love the combat stance, the running animation, and the jumping animations.

Of course the traits and mechanics are by far the most important concerns, but I’m also hoping for a visually exciting elite spec. Using the two-handed hammer stance for revenants is… okay, since they are a heavy armor profession, but given the agility and nimbleness of thieves, I think the Monkey King animations would provide a very aesthetically pleasing experience. I’m aware that it’s not as simple as “copy/paste” the animations onto the playable professions, but I believe the Monkey King tonic can give the devs a reliable reference to make the thief elite spec look and feel truly unique.

It’s probably silly to post this the week of the reveal, but what the heck, I just wanna put my thoughts out there. Let’s see some crazy bo staff skills!

Here’s hoping they wield it like the Monkey King!

Since they already have the monkey king model with that stance in 3D animated and all, it should be easy to import it to actual characters.

That’s what I’m thinking. I know the rigging is probably a bit different between the Monkey King and the other playable races, but the framework is still there, and to reiterate, I think it’d look much better than simply recycling the hammer stance.

Yeah, I hope so. While recycling the two-handed hammer stance for staff looks okay on a heavy armor profession like the revenant, I think it’d look really lame on a nimble profession like the thief. We’ll see soon enough, though I think the Monkey King stance would be perfect!

Well, since the elite spec is Staff, looks like Ricochet won’t be coming back even as the Elite.

Well to be optimistic, there are going to be more elite specs in the future. I for one am excited beyond reason about the idea of a melee staff thief, but I still want something for my little gunslinging asura thief. That said, there very well could be a Gunslinger elite spec later on that focuses on firearms for the profession.

Why would they ever want to comment with attitudes like this?

You’ve got a point, which is why I’d like to keep this thread more about throwing ideas around rather than bad-mouthing Anet. I’m as frustrated as anyone about this, but calling the devs out would only get this thread locked and all our discussions would be in vain.

They may not be responding, but I’m confident they are reading these, so let’s be as constructive as we can. So anyways, I still believe that adding the functionality that the Dragonhunter’s longbow auto-attack has would be the best way to allow for AoE mob damage with pistols (as in, bullets will bounce to enemies behind your target). Piercing is okay too, but after playing with the DH during the beta weekend, I found the bouncing mechanic to be really fluid and fun! Plus, seeing as how the berserker is another elite spec that’ll have crazy mob damage (did you guys see that gun flame?! Sol Badguy would be proud to let the berserkers use his own move like that), it kinda makes the thief’s lack of ricochet more glaring.

In my opinion, bouncing bullets just seem to fit the theme of a trick-shooting thief better than simply piercing bullets.

[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

Seabreeze.8437

Given that the berserker has been officially revealed as the warrior’s elite spec, I think now more than ever we need hairstyles more suited for such a profession. I’m not so sure that the influx of pretty boy, smooth and glossy hairstyles is very fitting for a berserker. To each their own I suppose, but there’s definitely a shortage of barbarian themed hairstyles (which may be attributed to the norn taking them all).

The Good ==> The Ugly

Good Asura ==> Ugly Asura
Good Charr ==> Ugly Charr
Good Norn ==> Ugly Norn
Good Males ==> Ugly Males
Good Females ==> Ugly Females

Wow, the difference is so glaring. I can’t believe this change was made. The original AA looks so much more animated and fierce. This new one looks like the player is either completely disinterested in the fight, swinging underwater, or both. Especially the asura. How can Anet muck up the AA for the race that’s supposed to be the most animated? It’s so boring I can’t stand it!

Aesthetically this is such a step backwards. We have such awesome, dynamic-looking attack animations across all the other weapons, and then to see this is just… ew. Really? Can’t the devs fix the technical issue and keep the original animation? I can’t get over how bland and lifeless the new auto-attack is.

Please bring back these beautiful animations for our axe AA, Anet!

Dragon Hunter Bow Needs Better Sound Effects

in Guardian

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

And while we’re on the topic of sounds, I wish Anet would change the sound effect of guardian’s third sword skill. Does anyone else notice that they just kinda randomly threw in the chest-opening sound effect? Don’t know about you guys, but that always sounded out of place to me. They couldn’t just record a brand new sound effect?

I don’t play guardian all that much, but I did notice this, and it does sound odd. It’s awesome that they’re thinking about revamping some of the longbow’s sounds, yet I wonder if they’d alter anything else such as this…

Either way, it’s great news for Dragonhunters!

Where’s Waldo: Hero Point Edition

Kill off all characters from before LS1 & LS2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

I love this game so much, but I’ll admit that the Scooby gang (a.k.a. Destiny’s Edge 2.0) is pretty nauseating. Especially Marjory and Kasmeer. I don’t have a problem at all with their relationship, but I do get tired of them reminding me every 5 seconds, even when they’re not around.

Kid NPC’s playing pretend in Lion’s Arch: “Okay, but if you’re Marjory, you gotta let me kiss you! Tee hee!”

Also, the script is borderline unbearable with some of the lines they give these guys.

Kasmeer: “Oh honey-pumpkin cuddly-bear, you scared the rainbow marshmallow fluff out of me!”

Really?… REALLY?! Okay, I exaggerated that a little, but they can get pretty close to that level of absurdity. It’s also annoying that they call you “Boss” when you feel like a footnote in the story. The focus of the story is obviously on them while you are more of the sidekick, unfortunately.

Should we kill them off? Probably not. Should the focus shift more towards you as a hero while they work out their own personal problems? Definitely yes in my opinion.

More Racial Customization in HoT?

Oh yeah, it was your thread, Frostfang, I remember posting in it even!

Man, it sucks that we don’t have sub-forums dedicated to all the playable races anymore. I suggested charr horns that looked more like deer/elk antlers or even that of a gazelle. And I really do think we need an option to color charr horns too. I feel like that should’ve been a feature to begin with.

Unfortunately, I’m not expecting anything like this when the expansion hits, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to be pleasantly mistaken.

in Thief

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

  • Daredevil: as an adjective, “recklessly bold or adventurous.” This is the entire opposite of Thief and the style it presents. I mean, recklessness and stealth don’t really work together.

Who says the elite spec will be reliant on stealth? To me, Dare Devil implies that it’s going to be more about agility, evades, and risky payoffs than the tired stealth tactics. I’m really quite intrigued at what we might be getting.

Let’s see what the elite spec brings first, okay? We don’t even know with absolute certainty that it is going to be Dare Devil, despite its likeliness.

Dare Devil: a silly name for Thief Elite

in Thief

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

People are still going off on that whole “high-concept” comment? It’s especially ironic because what you are asking for is actually for all elite specs to be high-concept. Simple, one-word profession names that are easy to understand are pretty much exactly what high-concept means.

When they said Dragonhunter was high concept, they weren’t trying to defend it against accusations that it was kind of a stupid name by claiming that the community just didn’t understand it, they were effectively agreeing that it was a very simple name without much nuance or subtlety and pointing out that some profession elite specs were named that way while others had more nuance like a Reaper (which will vary significantly based on your setting’s lore surrounding death).

QFT. I feel like this “high-concept” backlash can be attributed to some people simply misinterpreting what Anet means by that.

[Suggestion] Human Male Hairstyles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

Doesn’t mean that if some hair styles are not that popular, they should get rid of them. It’s actually more interesting to see some ugly characters once in a while than the same beauty pageants 24/7.

Unless I missed something, I don’t think anyone suggested they remove any of the hairstyles already in the game. I agree on your beauty pageant comment, though, which emphasizes the point that there are a bit too many “pretty boy” hairstyles compared to more rugged styles.

seriously, charr and asura are massively hogging the dreads.

This is true.

There were lots of good ideas in the racial sub-forums for charr horns and stuff. I really hope this expansion delivers.

I think Dare Devil is fine, just like I think people are way overreacting to the Dragonhunter name… because it’s just that: a name. Besides, it’s not like they named it “The Longbow Trapper.”

What’s making it sound more annoying is the fact that people keep relating it to the Marvel hero, Daredevil, as if Marvel Studios made up that term.

in Warrior

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Talk about calling it. I’ve been theorizing with my buddies for weeks that the Berserker elite would have skills similar to necromancer corruptions in that, in exchange for health, you’d give yourself a boost in strength. I will get myself a cookie now.

Okay, that’s enough patting myself on the back. Anyways… I’m curious as to how sacrificial skills are going to work. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a dagger off-hand where you carve into yourself to send you into a berserk state. But instead we’re getting torch. So you… set yourself on fire? That’s… pretty hardcore, lol.

So far, I think it’ll be cool, and I’m anxious to see what the torch will bring to the profession.

I’ve mained P/P thief since thief since release, but only recently been trying shortbow for one of my alt thieves. I don’t know if this is something recent, or if it’s been like this for a while and I just haven’t noticed it, but there’s a weird bug on the thief’s Cluster Bomb skill, specifically when you use Detonate Cluster.

I posted 3 screen caps for reference.

When you detonate Cluster Bomb in midair, the extra bombs are supposed to spread from where the arrow was in mid-flight. Instead, the three smaller bombs launch out from your body. All three screen caps are of me using Detonate Cluster to show that the bombs are clearly spawning from my body instead of the first arrow.

Is this something that should be addressed?… because I’m certain it’s not supposed to work that way.

Melee staff holding stance

Seabreeze.8437

Animation for Monkey King =/= animation for playable races. I would wager the monkey king has a special animation rig, incompatible with the rigs used by playable races. Meaning, the animation couldn’t be just copy pasted on player characters.

Yeah, I guess you’ve got a point. I’m certain that the playable races have a much more complicated rig than a model used as a tonic. Still, I’d love to see this animation adapted for the thief if we indeed get a melee staff. I personally think it’d fit so well given the nature of thieves.

This would be nice. Some more beachy, surfer gear would be really nice to have. If they are implemented as outfits, then they could be applied to any armor weight class, so there’s an advantage to making them outfits.

Dragon Hunter Bow Needs Better Sound Effects

in Guardian

Posted by: Seabreeze.8437

Seabreeze.8437

I actually LIKE the sound from that bow! I’d say keep it as is!

Huh? Okay, it sounds good for a ranger and a warrior, but the dragonhunter is a mage-type archer, so the recycled “pshew pshew” noise just sounds out of place. If his arrows are magic-based, shouldn’t they sound more… I dunno, magical? (that sounds really cheesy, but you know what I mean)

Someone posted somewhere that Anet stated the tempest definitely will get new warhorn sounds later on, so getting the same aesthetic tweaking for the dragonhunter’s longbow is not totally inconceivable.
