That would be a pretty good trick, having a character that’s a year old on an account that is only 10 days old. How do you do that? Sounds like some kind of exploit or hack to me. ;-)

That is incorrect. The real reason is each event takes roughly 45 minutes. Add 10 minutes for the overflow, that’s 55 minutes. That only leaves 5 minutes between each event.

We most likely wont be getting them. They didn’t give any other bonus items to us that they ran during other promotions. For example, the Wizards Hat.
Except they did give everyone the wizards hat because so many people made a big issue out of it. In this case, there is no reason to give anyone anything.

In the business world, companies sometimes add incentives to draw new customers. It happens all the time. Bought a car a year ago, but this year’s model has parking assist. If I want that new feature, I need to pay to upgrade by getting the newer version of my same car. Same with GW2 accounts. You have last year’s model, and you’re free to upgrade if you wish.
Is this fair? I guess that depends on the person’s own views on things. But one could also argue that if you waited a year to purchase the game, you could have gotten all these bonuses from the time you start playing.
I totally agree, my confusion stems from the fact that there’s no “Buy the Heroic edition items” upgrade package in the Gem store. Unless it was added very recently?
But there is an option to buy the heroic edition items, anyone can buy them at any time. It’s only a few dollars. So if Anet offers an “upgrade” to the heroic edition for $10.00, would that make you happy? You could also just purchase gems with that money and have gems left over, or just use in game gold and get them for free.

In GW1, when they came out with new editions that had features/items that the older editions did not have they let us purchase just the new additions to add them to our accounts. They could do the same here, just let the old timers buy the armor skins and whatever and add them to their accounts. To do that, they would need some kind of store or something setup however. ;-)
Eh, but still those were whole new game expansions. Either way, i’m not mad or anything, i’m just interested to hear from Anet.

No, they where not. I am not talking about Factions, Nightfall or EOTN. There where other editions of the original game that came with different weapon skins and a few summoning stones. The GOTY edition was a perfect example. It came with additional weapons and a fire imp summoning stone. Eventually you could purchase the additional GOTY items for $5.00. I really don’t see any difference between that and what they are doing with the heroic edition.

If you feel you should get these items you can do the following:
1. delete all characters on your account
2. Request a refund on your account from Anet.
3. Use that money to purchase the game with the new promotion in place.You will now have spent the same amount of money but you will receive the additional items as well. That way you get the same offer and items as all new players.
Note: the refund policy limit is 6 months I believe.
Note 2: Having your account refunded will permanently delete all progress in the game you have made.
Also once you request a refund you can never use the same payment option again. So if you paid by credit card, that card is then blacklisted forever.

@Beorn I didn’t think of doing that, honestly that is a great idea. Even though I have had it for as long as I’ve had, will they give me a full refund on it? As of right now, I have no intention on supporting this game any longer.
You have a limited time to request a refund, if you have been playing from the start, you are FAR past that limit. Besides the point that doing so would be beyond dishonest. This is common in most games. It is nothing new and frankly complaining about it is childish. Almost every major game, both MMO or otherwise has done this. They come out with GOTY editions, Gold, Platinum, Unlimited, Special, etc, etc, etc. None of these are given to the original purchasers of the games, why should GW2 be held to a higher standard then the rest of the gaming industry?

It was to show that I gain nothing from either way. The argument is “well you have the DDE already so you want something”. People like me, that gain nothing either way, are the counter to that. My argument is actually valid as I can prove with screen shots that I gain nothing.
I’ve already said that they should either provide a way for people with the DDE to upgrade, or that they should provide the items to the players with a DDE. If they do charge for the items though it’s going to make Anet look bad, not as bad as making their current DDE players pay a full 1600 gems though. That’s just silly.
I would much rather discuss this on a forum that doesn’t target people who have valid complaints about the game though. So if you guys want to continue, and have a real discussion, please use redit or one of the non anet sites.

I barely played either so I can’t comment on how they would release it through Living Story.
But I’m sure they would be able to present as such.
A quick analogy I can think of:
Expansion = Movie
Living Story = Mini-series
This is the best analogy of this I have seen. A perfect example.
Absolutely no sympathy from me at all. It’s called an “achievement” for a reason.
Use your finger and click the button just like everyone else.
If you think that is tough to click to get that achievement, you would never survive playing GW1.

To much of anything can be a bad thing. It seems more and more, when the devs make a change instead of tweaking it, they go in with a sledge hammer. I remember working with a women who found out she could change the color of text in a document. After that, everything she did looked like an explosion in a paint factory with every paragraph a different color. The achievements remind me of that. Once the devs added them, it seems that is all they can think about now and just don’t know when to stop. It’s the same with culling, they can’t seem to adjust it, it’s either all or nothing with no in between.
So whats exactly is the problem with loot and achievements? As far as I know, you can get no more than 3 unique sets, 1 weapon and 2 armor sets. What’s so troubling about that? It rewards people for dedicating their time in the game. And what’s better than showing that you did ‘this’? By having these unlimited skins.
Anet is making lots of achievements so that newer players can go for these skins. Many of the old players have a lot of points made up from dailies. So it’s a ‘catch-up’

i’m guessing you guys didn’t play guild wars 1….a lot of the armor in that game was locked behind reputation achievements, kinda like how WoW used be…or behind an insane amount of gold…like tier 3 cultural was at first

Originally, achievements where just something extra, a way to keep track of what you did or just something earn a title.

Not playable at all, complete fail. Have tried 3 different events. So many people you can’t see anything on the screen, then it freezes and I get kicked to an overflow. Not happy with this one at all, and it looked like it could have been a lot of fun. I guess I can try guesting to an empty server, otherwise this will be another event that I will not be able to do.

Nice story and it could be true or not. Also Anet could’ve gotten hacked. Point is, we’ll never know for sure and what this thread is actually about is the fact that Anet hasn’t invested in tools like some other games do to help people recover their stuff.
Accounts get hacked. It’s a fact of life basically. I don’t even care whose fault it is at this stage, but bottom line is that game companies know this stuff happens and they then decide what they want to do to help their customers or not.
Online games are not just a product, it’s a service. I think that if people play the same game for years and collect stuff that takes time to get etc. that it’s a good idea to have something in place that you can help your own customers with.
The fact that Anet doesn’t offer it, is purely a cost decision, nothing more. Possibly their business model is at fault there. As much as people hate subs, there are downsides to things being cheaper.
As has been said in this thread several times, Anet does offer account restorations for hacked accounts. If your account is hacked, and all your toons and items are deleted, you can get them fully restored. Guilds are different story however.

You try to blame Arena.Net, but it seems that fault lays with the individual who had top priority permission in your guild and had his/her account hacked. This person’s security set up on their PC, or their email, or their account password, was in a weakened state that allowed for the breach of account.
Also if, as you said, you’d had multiple guild leaders, then someone should have stepped in and done something immediate as soon as the first or second kick happened. A quick split-second demotion of the individual prior to any more kicks would have stopped the motion of the break, but that’s more something that has to be caught on the minute it’s happening.
And another thing I want to bring up is how you have a permissions set up that other guild leaders are able to kick other guild leaders. How/why is this allowed? You’ve basically allowed your guild to have a leadership where anyone of them can backstab the rest and make off with the bounty. Sounds like a poor set up.
Last of the last things needed to be mentioned is that account recovery is possible, but guild recovery is not. The account recovery system wasn’t even created until about 3 months post-launch, but they have no such system for guilds. The reason behind this is because someone can “claim a hack”, but it could just be internal drama that splits the group; so a more hands-off approach is taken. It’s also the responsibility of the guild, as mentioned above, to structure their leadership properly with the allowable permissions they’d like each to have or not to have. And, it’s also up to the guild to make sure to inquire about the highest guild members having secure, reliable accounts so as to not threaten the guild with a possible hacked account.
Place the blame where the blame belongs: both the account holder and the guild itself.

If title of ‘guildwars2’ means real ‘guild’, they need to make more reasonable and more supportive.
The bottom line is guild security is the responsibility of the guild. Yes, you should always have at least 2 full guild leaders in case 1 loses his account, but never multiple backup guild leaders as that is just asking for trouble. Anet has stated time and time again they will not get involved in internal guild affairs, and this falls under that category.
As to restorations, they do have a system to restore accounts as they have snapshots of the accounts over time. Restoring an individual account is one thing, but restoring a whole guild? That would be not only complex, but also could lead to many other problems. Doing a restore is not as simple as restore a file. A game like this must use some form of database. A database is a very tricky thing to deal with, and a single mistake can render the whole thing useless. I have seen first hand where restoring a single record caused so many issues, the entire database had to be restored and all new information lost. If it’s a relational database, it’s even more of an issue as every record relates to every other record, so any change to 1 could effect all the rest.
This has happened before, with the guild leaders being hacked, banned, and with members taking all the items from the guild bank. The guild is responsible for their own internal security, protecting from rogue members or leaders included.

You don’t seriously expect a game with no monthly fee to have the same level of support as a game making over $180 million a month now do you? when you charge a monthly fee and over charge your players, you can afford to hire telephone support 24/7.
As to the time, if you had submitted a support ticket in the first place you would probably already have an answer. It is the weekend, outside normal business hours so the live chat would not have done you any good even if it was still available.I expected it only because they said they had it.

I did read your response. You do not need multiple email accounts to use support. You seem to be having some other issues that may be related to attempting to link 2 GW2 accounts, but your support email should be the same one you use to log in to the game as well as these forums.

Michael — I want to thank you for pointing out those very old threads that refer to “Live Help.” That system hasn’t been available in a very long time, for we found that the wait times and the slowness of issue resolution made the entire concept less than effective. (In fact, I noticed your comments about the very same thing, so I imagine you’ve had negative experiences with other companies and their telephone or chat help.)
Au contraire. I’ve had several accounts on both those 8 year running MMO’s, and while 45 minute wait times are normal, another half an hour and it’s fixed.
I’m already 12 hours into this problem, and it’s not even started being resolved. It would be trivial via phone. You offer a link for me to consult if the problem runs more than 3 days after I finally get it submitted. A day to get the problem into the hopper and 3 days to resolve it does not compare favorably to the other guy’s 45 minute wait on the phone, no matter how sarcastically we whine about it.
Submitting a ticket really is faster and the outcomes are more accurate. I’ve edited the post in which there was mention of “Live Help” so that there is no confusion about the matter.
As I understand it, to submit a ticket I must register a support account, and since it rejects my current (and only) email address as being used by another account (to wit, my game account) I seem to need to get another email address just for the support ticket? Is this true? It makes so little sense I think I must be doing something wrong.

If they banned you for “Salis Nigra”, that is wrong. There is nothing wrong with the word “Nigra” as it does NOT mean what some over sensitive players may think it means. 9 times out of 10 the players who complain about a bad name knew what they where doing and deserved a name change, but in this case IMHO, the support tech made a mistake and assumed the word was something other then it really is. If they thought the name could cause some problems with some over sensitive or clueless players and wanted you to change it to avoid problems, then that’s different and would not deserve a ban only a change name request at most.
Woah… Strange, since one of our guild leaders got attempted hacked aswell, but managed to stop the attack early so we JUST talked about this :o

No, the cap is not 250. It is “at least” 400, and may be as high as 500 but I am not sure.
The only way to get your guild back if all the leaders have been kicked is if the leader who is doing the kicking gets his account back. Anet will not get involved in any guild issues as they have stated many times in the past, so all you can do is hope he regains his account.
It’s the weekend, most people are home with their families not sitting at a desk waiting for your email. Until you have waited at least 3 days, you really have no complaint about how long it takes.

Avast is good, but it’s basic protection. To be on the safe side, you should download both Malewarebytes from malwarebytes.org and Superantispyware from superantispyware.com. Install both, do the updates, then run full scans. There is also a very good chance the hacker has access to your email account so as fast as you change your GW2 password, he will be able to access it. Scan your computer and ensure it is clean, then change your email password. Once that is done, then you should change your GW2 password and make sure the hacker does not access it again. If all looks clean, then you can contact support and ask for an account restoration due to the hacker. An account restoration is a 1 time thing, you have 1 and only one chance so you must make sure your computer and account are both secure before requesting one.
You can also visit bleepingcomputer.com as there are some very powerful scanners/cleaners available there for download, but they are ONLY for the advanced user. Before using anything from that site you should post in their forums and ask for assistance with the scans.
To be blunt, you are wasting your time and getting very close to having your forum access blocked as well. Support is simply not going to show you any logs.
There are only 2 possibilities here. Support is not telling the truth, or your friend is.
Support has no reason to lie to you. Your friend on the other hand has shown he lies and cheats at will. Who are you going to believe?
My suggestion is to drop it because you may not like what happens if you continue as you are.

Personally I do not think open world dueling is necessary. I doubt very much that I would use the feature (I prefer team oriented PvP). But….anything that increases the ability of the playerbase to entertain itself in between significant content releases seems like it could be useful.

GW2 is trying to do the same, be something different, something that all the other games are not but people seem to want to force it to become a generic clone for some strange reason.
I agree with JustTrogdor. At this point, just wait out the suspension and keep your brother away from your computer and maybe see if your parents can put him up for adoption. ;-)

What do you mean support refused to help? That does not sound right. What exactly did he ask support for? If his account was hacked and support can verify it, there is a restoration option to restore the account, but it has to be shown that the account was hacked first. If your friend already opened a ticket, you should update your post with the ticket #. Gaile will probably not be back on line until Monday, so you may need to wait until then for a response.

Please don’t confuse duelers with PvPers. PvPers want a balanced playing field where skill, tactics, and well executed play win the day. Duelers want a playing field where gear advantage, food advantage, cheese factor and build win the day.

There is also a solution to the duelists who only want to use superior armor, weapons, etc. Fight a duel and lose, you lose whatever armor and weapons you are using to your opponent. At least that way a skilled player would have some fun with a noob with a checkbook.
Custom Arenas are the answer to your prayers. They’re balanced.
Also, the Windmill in (insert server here) BL. They’re unbalanced.
Spvp is balanced for spvp, not duels, though. Besides, open world dueling could offer interesting places to fight at, like on some plank high above the ground.

Group events where? At the middle of Gendarran Fields or some other area nobody EVER goes? Even disabling it in towns seems pointless. There is already costume brawl and I’m sure it doesn’t bother anyone – and if it does, then perhaps its time to look at the mirror.
There are group events all over the game, in almost every map every few minutes, or have you been only playing WvW? Custom brawls are annoying for sure, but at least they are few and far between.

In GW1, you could duel in the guild halls, that was pretty much it. When/if they add guild halls, that would be the place to add dueling. Group events are an example of what you would start seeing, so many particle effects going off from the duelists you would not be able to even make out the rest of the game.
I am sure Monday morning the mods will simply merge this thread in to the many, many other threads already merged.
Oh yeah, please stop with the “every other mmo/game, etc has it”. That is not even close to being a valid argument and is the last resort of someone who cannot think of any real valid reason.

Dear GM ,can u check my friend’s account by yourself ,please ? when his account banned , his just tab to checking his facebook, nothing more .Maybe he’s got some trojan or virus make the client thought he using third party program.
Having multiple friends keep asking for someone to look at the ticket is not going to help and will only slow down any help he may be able to get. If support has closed the ticket, your friend will just have to wait until the support liaison has a chance to see the ticket and take a look at it. There are no GMs here on the forums. There is no one here who can help. It is the middle of the night on a weekend and most of the employees have gone home, either for the day or until Monday. As I have told you before, he just needs to wait.

He have filed a report but they still close his account. So he asked me to post in the forums to help him
Your friend has to wait. Of course they closed his account because he was banned for using a third party program. Now that he opened a ticket, he needs to wait until the support staff can investigate it. Wait 3 days, if no response then post the ticket # in the thread “Tickets for Review (3 days and older) [merged]”. It is the weekend, so you should probably expect no response before Monday. Tell your friend not to open any more tickets, if he has more information, update the original ticket. Any other posts in the forums will not help.

You friend needs to open a ticket with support, there is no one on the forums who can help. After he opens a ticket, if he has not received a response in 3 days, then you can post his ticket number here and ask for assistance.
At times the game is almost unplayable. As others have said, with each patch, it seems to get worse and worse. GW2 is the only game I have problems with. Very stable high speed internet connection and PC with more then enough resources for the game. I can play other online games with out any issues at all, but GW2 seems to “pause” every few seconds so even the most basic of fights is difficult. Trying to pick up loot? I sometimes have to try hitting the F key several times. I am on the East Coast of the US if it makes a difference.

A Player Instrument Volume slider has been added to the Sound Options panel.I would’ve gladly paid gems for this option

I second this! If I never hear another instrument in game it will be too soon.
