You are all missing the main point.
The leaderboards are pointless and do not reflect the truth.
Everyone knows that I am the best player the game has or ever will have.
I have the best looking toons, with the best looking/dyed armor and weapons.
My guilds are by far superior to all others, and our server is the top of the top, the very best.
My skills out shine any of you and players beg just to walk in my shadow so they can bask in my glory.

Since we have now established that there is no hope by any stretch of the imagination for any of you to even come close to my magnificent self, can we now forget about who has the most points and just get back to playing the game? ;-)

BTW, if anyone disagrees with what I posted above, I reject your reality and substitute my own, so there!

The strange thing everyone who brings this ‘problem’ up seems to assume is: “you played GW1 so you automatically have 500 freeby points”…

Hah! I finished all three campaigns and EotN, plus played a few months extra and I’m not even at 20 out of the 50 HoM points. The people kicking up sand assume it’s all kittens and giggles…

Seriously, GW2 players think they know what grind is. Go grind the insane amount of points you need to get reputation titles. Have a look what it takes to grind the weapons and prestige armors needed. Go battle the hard mode dungeons and the realm of Torment.

If you knew what it takes to get those 500 APs, then you’d understand those players earned it. And to compare the effort to gain the 500 AP from HoM to what it takes to get 500 in this game… it’s a joke.

I got the Drunkard title before you could spam it. That was true grinding. =)

Exactly! I got the explorer title before there was textmod or players sharing maps to compare. We had to kill every single creature in every single map in the original game and all the expansions in hard mode. We had to do every mission and every bonus within those missions in both standard and hard mode. If the whiners think it is so easy, then let them pay the $40.00 for all 4 games and get the titles themselves.

The devs, maybe. But, do you think ANet would have succeeded at GW2 without the new players that joined up playing a new game?
So, on the contrary, all GW1 players should be very thankful for every non-gw1 player joining in GW2 to support Anet by buying the game and maybe some gems so that Anet can continue to support the GW(1+2) players and keep their favorite world open and alive!.

Actually, we GW1 players would have been much better off without all the “new” players who seem to only want the game to be what they want, which is a clone of every other game out there. Anet had the sales from the GW1 players already. They where assured to make a profit. Most of the “new” players had no clue what they where purchasing and have done nothing but complain about “features” that “every other MMO” have so the devs have had to make changes from almost the start to accommodate them.

My friend bought GW2 yesterday but can’t log in to the game. he has made a Areananet account but has not received no email to confirm him registering, he sent 2 tickets in support but still no reply
Now he can’t even log into the website which is why i’m posting this on the forum for him
He paid £40 for this game after i recommended GW2 to him and with no support reply i’m just hoping a GM here can help

Thank you

First, your friend should check any spam folders to make sure the emails where not blocked.
Second, do NOT open multiple tickets. Opening multiple tickets will slow down any response you will get. Close out all tickets except for 1. Wait 3 days for a response. If you have not heard back within 3 days, post the ticket # in the sticky thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged at the top of the forum.

Easy solution, delete the leader boards. They server no useful purpose except to inflate the egos of players who have nothing better to do then look at a few numbers on a webpage. The leader boards mean NOTHING, get over yourselves. If it means that much to you to let others know how long you have been playing, we should just ask anet to put a counter next to your name showing hours played. It means just as much.

If it bothers you that much, you can have my spot on the leaderboards where ever it is.
The leaderboards are and always have been a huge joke on the players, why you are even bringing them up is mind boggling.
Now to the achievement points themselves, nothing is stopping you or anyone else from playing GW1 and getting the points yourself. They are just as available to you as they where for the rest of us.
50/50, GWAMM and I still play and support GW1, so thank you Anet as well!

The bigger issue here is the great frustration to honest players for no apparent gain. Players spend considerable time and dedication to earn some of these items and skins, you could argue they’re the ONLY reason some people even play the game. Refusing to restore them when they’re lost due to some mechanic can literally end the desire to play their product. Conversely, restoring them likely increases commitment. Makes no business sense.

The game is free to play. If they start trying to offer support for every player mistake, and in this case, it is player error not an error in the game, they would have to have a much larger support crew, meaning more money, meaning they would probably have to start charging a monthly fee. A game like wow that brings in close to $100,000,000 a month or more in fees can afford to have a large support staff. A free to play game like GW2 cannot. Another point is if they use the support resources to correct player mistakes, then they will have less resources for players who really need support.

By that logic (a free to play game) then you mean games like this one should not have this kind of support? It’s like you’re saying games like this (B2P Buy 2 Play) is inferior to sub-based-games. I don’t view it this way since I highly vaule a good B2P game as much as a good sub-based-game. Another point is this is not 100% player mistake when it could have been prevented by either party. Yes, I made a mistake by not tabbing out & google if I could equip 2 of the same ascened rings beause I was too excited to be able to finally gather enough of Badges & Laurels to purchase it. At the same time Anet could have prevented it as well by simply not allowing a player to purchase the same ascended ring on a toon that’s already equipped with one.

This is a gameplay issue & it should deserve support just like any other game issues.

Your situation has nothing to do with this conversation. The op was talking about selling a legendary item to the merchants, that has nothing to do with your issue so you are simply attempting to hijack another players thread. Did you open a support ticket for your own issue? That is your first step as support has corrected players purchasing double ascended items in the past. If you opened a support ticket already, create your own support thread here with your issue instead of piggy backing on another players thread about a different issue.

I understand the ‘L’ in EULA means License… but I am no expert in law.

I wouldn’t assure so openly that reselling is forbidden, because if someone ever gets banned/suspended for playing with a legal second-hand copy, here or on in any other online game, we will see it on the news for sure (just try a search on “Valve sued” + “resell games”). Steam is also based on “accounts” and that doesn’t mean that this accounts system can stop the buyer of the license to resell it when they want.

I was just curious if in Arenanet were aware of this, because it’s not so known.
Also, I cannot check it right now, but I remember that the EULA for Europe is slightly different, may be because of this.

Your trying to compare 2 very different things, and to be honest, the Germen lawsuit supports Anet’s position. In Gernamy, they want to break the games out from the steam account, making them separate. That would mean you could sell the game, but NOT your steam account. It is the same here. You can sell your copy of the game, but you need an account on the servers in order to play the game, and you cannot sell your account.

I highly doubt there is a security leak, if there was there would be hundreds of thousands of people with this issue.

So either you have a keylogger on your computer or you used the same credentials on another site that has been hacked. Either way, I’m 99.999999999999999% sure it’s your end.

Lets put this to rest once and for all. Almost guaranteed it was not a keylogger. Keyloggers are VERY few and far between. The keyloggers that have been found where used to collect banking data and where designed for that purpose. To date, there has been NO recorded instances of a keylogger being distributed to steal GW2 passwords by any anti-virus vendor. Keyloggers are always the first response from people who know nothing about computer security and only repeat what they have heard on the internet, which is usually wrong. Using the same logon and password on another site is a possibility, but that does NOT explain the many players who created dedicated GW2 email accounts, used strong passwords, never used the combination anywhere else, and still had their account accessed. The thieves are using another method, and it does NOT involve the use of keyloggers or passwords reused from other sites.

I take that as very bad news. So basically, the game is finished? The living story updates have so far been a little lacking, mostly veiled attempts to get the players to go back to older content that they have already completed. If no expansions are planned I don’t really see any future for the game as the living story is not going to carry it unless they make some major improvements to what they have been releasing so far.

Read the link dude. There is a whole bunch of other people/teams working behind the scenes that have no part with the current Living Story team right now, but that content could be pushed in as Living Story content.

And that makes a difference how? Still the same people/teams who have been doing the content up to now, so why do you believe the same people doing the same thing the same way will make it different?

The people are the same but the teams are not. If you work in a corporate/team environment you know that different teams can come up with different ideas and have different ‘synergy’

So they are breaking down the teams and reforming them with different devs? Where did it say that? I must have missed it if it was anywhere in that article.

I agree, Thorn. I’ve did the living story (Molten Alliance), but the rest I really didn’t care for. I did the Southsun one halfway and got bored and stopped. Didn’t bother with dragon bash and sky pirates, and I happen to be a mega-lore fan. These just don’t spark my interest >=)

Same for me. I never finished south sun, just plain boring. I could not even bring myself to do any more farming there and I was getting more rares and exotics in a day then I did since launch. I have most of dragon bash, multiple tickets, both sets of dragon wings, all just taking up space in storage. Sky pirates? most of the content has no interest to me, so I stopped even trying to do any of it. So far out of all the living story additions, the molten alliance dungeon was the only thing really enjoyable.

Purchase and play multiple accounts?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

If you already have your own account, you can purchase a second account and play that as well. There is nothing in the rules that prohibit it as long as you are the original owner and sole player. If you choose to do that, it would be best to use a second email address to help keep them separate and avoid confusion. Can I ask why you would want 2 accounts? In GW1, many of us had multiple accounts, I have 3 myself. It made sense at first as there was no way to purchase additional slots, but with GW2 being able to purchase more slots, why would you want a second account? In my opinion, I would rather keep everything in a single account so I could share account bound items and achievements across all my toons.

Guild leader rank

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

Sorry about the word filter. I reported that to the team.

And it’s correct that we do not have a system for replacing guild leaders. In fact, I don’t know that we will develop that because we try to let guilds have a level of privacy and autonomy that could be impacted by someone cleverly petitioning for help (and really seeking something wrong.)

You’ll need to sort this out internally but I take on board that a returning banned player is probably a risky person to have a guild leader, especially if he/she holds certain rights exclusively.

What about adding a 30 day demotion for leakitten ositions? In CoH to prevent this kind of situation, the highest rank required you to log in every so often (it was something the guild could set, 30 days was the default) or get demoted one rank. If you were the last at the highest rank, the next person to log in at the next highest rank was promoted.

They did that in GW1, it did not work out very well. More then once a guild owner found himself without the guild that he put so much effort in to. It all comes down to bad planning on the guild leaders part. If they use the permissions system wisely, this problem can be avoided. If I am banned right this second, my guild would keep on going just like it always has. You have to remember, the guild belongs to the person who creates it, it is not yours to take away just because he decides not to play any longer, it’s his. To be blunt, the guild leader is the one who payed the fee to create the guild. It’s up to the leader if he wants to share it with the members, but in the end, it is his to do with what he wants. If he decides to stop playing, your perfectly free to leave the guild and join another, but there is no reason it should be taken away from him and given to you just because you want it.

No. Absolutely not.
I created the guild. I paid the fees. I purchased the upgrades with my own real world money. Just because I decide to take a break, you want to steal the guild out from under me? I don’t think so. One of the benefits of a free to play model like GW2 is you can stop playing and come back whenever you want, your idea would take that away from the guild leaders.
A guild should always have atleast 2 leaders. The founder, and 1 other with a lower rank. The second in command should have all the rights necessary to run the guild, except be able to kick the founder. If a guild leader creates a guild and does not give anyone else any permissions, it’s a poor leader and the guild is going to run in to problems. Most of these situations are caused by bad planning on the part of the guild leaders in the first place.

72 Hour Ban For Inapropriate Language

72 hours is the norm for a first offense, it gets longer with each offense after that.
Apparently you did offend someone as they reported it, and support agreed after reviewing it. As to that last sentence, there is your problem right there, no one “had it coming”, if you cannot be civil to other players, it’s best to not say anything at all as you have just found out.

No, some people have it coming. If you don’t believe that you live in the fantasy land that you are playing your toon in. Disrespect is returned with disrespect. Civility is a relative term. If ask a question and get disrespectful answers back, you had better believe they will get the same treatment. Whatever though, It doesn’t really matter anyway since the banhammer holder wanted to flex their muscles. 72 hours is just stupid for something like this. 24 hours is sufficient.

Read some of the other threads here. There was just another player who thought the same as you. That player no longer has an account as his account was permanently banned simply because he was not able to control what he said. You seem to be heading down that same path.

Aetherblade Caches - What's the point?

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

Okay guys, let me rephrase it:

What is the point of running to a completely RANDOM location X to loot a generic and unrewarding chest for a bit of text to pop up and to get mini after you made enough text pop up?

My point is not about JPs being fun or not and not entirely about whether or not a mini is a good reward for an event.

My point is more about: what does running to those locations and looting generic chests have to do with the Aetherblades? I mean okay, there are like one or two of them spawning around the chests, wow. Despite that it is just some random location in random old content you have to run to.

OK, I do see your point there. It probably would have made more sense if finding the caches actually DID something. As you find each one, the weapons available to the Aetherblades reduce, you would have to fight less of them, etc. Maybe even have each contain a map fragment that you have to find a minimum of to locate their main base, something!

Aetherblade Caches - What's the point?

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

I agree. when I saw most of them where JPs, that was enough. I do not do JPs, period. I hate them with a passion and believe they are the worst part of the game, they suck, are not fun to do, tedious, lame, boring, did I say they suck? I spent over 2 hours going through a jumping puzzle, 2 hours!, only to have them do a server reset and lose all the progress I made, TWICE! So that was 4 hours wasted doing something I did not like in the first place, only to have them pull the achievement away at the lase minute.
I used to be of a mind set that I wanted to do ALL achievements. The GW2 devs have done a pretty good job of putting an end to that. There are so many achievements that I have no hope of every getting, so why should I even try for any? If I get them, I do, if I don’t, well who really cares at this point?
This is as bad as putting a PvE achievement in a PvP area, oh wait, they did that with the caches as well!

Only three of the seven actually require you to do the jumping puzzle, and two of those can be completely skipped with a mesmer who can…and technically the last one still can be, but takes more effort to do so.

It really does not matter to me, jumping puzzles are just not worth my time. I play games to have fun, they are not fun to me, so I see no reason to even attempt them any longer. Yes, you can get a port from a Mesmer (and god bless those that offer the service), but then what is the point? Why do the devs keep putting these in the game? I expect to see the next option be “pay 5 gems to unlock the achievement and avoid doing the content at all”. I remember reading a post from one of the devs bragging about how tough he made a JP like it was some kind of contest to screw the players as much as possible in the most creative ways. I know, I am ranting. To tell the truth, at first I thought the JP’s where OK, not really fun, but OK. After they keep trying to force them down our throats, I have just become completely hostile to even the idea of one.
Someone else mentioned a carrot on a stick. I like my carrots cut up in to small bits and boiled in a pot. Try to dangle a stick in front of me and it’s more likely you will get the stick snapped in half and shoved up your backside along with the carrot.

I have a lot of problems with this whole thing, I just cannot believe anyone would waste their time with an IP ban. An IP ban only works if you have a static IP, which very few actual users would have. On top of that, all anyone would have to do is call their ISP and ask for a new IP, so I do not believe there is an actual IP ban, support (I would hope) is smarter then that.
And finally, a perma ban for chat abuse? You must have REALLY gone over board on a number of occasions, if you do not examine your online behavior, it’s very doubtful you will make it in any online game.

How does Anet handle reports on misconduct?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

I don’t know where to post this but I was wondering if Anet ever reviews mass report of misconduct before proceeding with the ban hammer. Recently a guildmate of mine was banned due to mass report of another guild just because she kept posting a recruitment thread on a certain fb page.

here are the facts of that said group:
1. gw2 group page of a certain country
2. everybody is allowed to post recruitment thread.
3. anybody who posts flamebaits, trolls will be automatically expelled from the group

well, the recruitment thread she posted is as plain as you could think of. I mean there’s no flame baiting or whatever. Just plain old recruitment post (and the comments were civil). So I was wondering, if another guild mass reported her, who will review the reports before she gets banned? or will she automatically be banned because of the number of reports that Anet receives?

oh and we’re sure it’s a mass report from another guild because when she filed a ticket, she was told of the same reason why she can’t access her account.

No amount or reports will result in a suspension. All reports are reviewed by an actual living, breathing person before a ban is issued. If your friend was suspended/banned, then support agreed that she did do what she was reported for. BTW, it does not matter what happens on another website. Reports can only be placed for actions in game, not for something that was done on a third party website.

Forced to name change for no apparent reason

It is merely two words put together, very similar to the majority of the population on this game. If you check the definition for astral, I think that’s quite inappropriate, assuming that’s how one judges a definition these days….

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=astral

As my name isn’t suggesting I’m doing the action, I don’t see the issue.

“Astral” has a normal, everyday, non-slang meaning. I rather wonder what you think a normal, nonviolent meaning for “curbstomp” is – because no one buys that you just happened to put two random words together completely innocently. That’s possibly a worse excuse than “it wasn’t me, it was my little brother.”

Actually, there is not even a valid slang meaning at that link. Those “bad” entries where added to harass a person named “Astral Entity Josh” so linking them as proof that astral has a negative meaning is really stretching it. The ops name on the other hand is pretty offensive and there is no way he can convince me he did not know what it meant. A perfect example of a completely justifiable forced name change.

Authentication location not mine

You can check your ip by going to http://www.whatsmyip.org/

If the address displayed on the top of the page is the same as in the authentication email, then your fine as that is your IP address.

This is actually very common. In the US, many people who have AOL show up as coming from Reston VA, regardless of where they really live as that is where their main data centers are located. I live in Rhode Island, but my companies IP shows them as being in Kentucky which is several hundred miles away. As long as your IP as displayed on the page linked above and the IP in the authentication email are the same, you have nothing to worry about.

We need Raid Groups

You want raid groups. There’s a difference between “want” and “need”.

Good point, the last time there was a “need” thread, it actually got renamed to “want” pretty quickly.

Which legendary weapon are you going for?

None. If they ever come out with one for either of my 2 primaries that does not look like it was designed by a 12 year old girl, I may reconsider.

Just wondering whether we can get confirmation if adding support for Raid Groups is even in development?

Not another one of these threads…..
Please use the search function before creating duplicate threads for subjects that have already had multiple discussions. The mods have to keep merging these and they have better things to do.
The short answer to your question is no. Nothing has ever been mentioned about adding raids or even a suggestion of them being in development or even that anyone inside anet has even given them any thought at all. You could ask the same question about adding flying saucers to the game and it would have just about the same relevance.

Perhaps you should retract that statement

There was an in game Q&A with snowcrash

Q:) Will we ever be able to go to Cantha?
(A:) (Paraphrasing) Cantha is definitely not cut from the game, you will just have to wait and see.
(Q:) Will we be getting more dungeons?
(A:) We will be continuing to work on our dungeons.
(Q:) (Follow-up) Old ones…or new ones?
(A:) Both!
(Q:) Will we ever see anything like raiding?
(A:) Our answer to raiding may very well be in the works!
(Q:) Is there anything being done to get people to want to spend time in their respective capital cities?
(A:) Yes.
(Q:) How is the LFG coming along?
(A:) Coming along great. We’re sorry for not putting it in sooner, but there aren’t enough hours in the day.
(Q:) (In whisper) Can you say anything at all about raid style content?
(A:) It is something I am very excited about and will be unique to GW2
(Cap of the exchange from above.) http://i.imgur.com/ExzO5dg.jpg
(Q:) What are your day to day duties?
(A:) (Too long, but, here is a cap of the answer:) http://i.imgur.com/WrOaCRb.jpg
(Snowcrash saying he was lead producer:) http://i.imgur.com/Sj45hX0.jpg

And just which statement would that be? If your referring to “Our answer to raiding may very well be in the works!”, that is not saying raiding is being worked on. It says their answer to raiding, which may be nothing more then fractals for more players, and he did not even say it was being worked on, he said it “may” be in the works. Just about as vague as you can get.

If you had bothered to take your own advice and search ‘raid’ or ‘raid group’ you would realize that this yields zero results.

If you got 0 results, then your not doing it right. You should have gotten at the very least all of the previous responses to this very thread.

If the mods have better things to do, then why are they continuing to merge the threads? Anyway, raid groups would be fun.

They continue to merge the threads because people who can’t be bothered to look first keep creating multiple copies for the same subjects over and over and over again.
If you want to discuss raids, there are plenty of other threads with thousands of replies, but since the op created this thread now without searching first, those will now be harder to find when doing a search.

Not to sound snide but from my experience the search function on this forum is on the verge of useless. As a test just now I went to the forum page, typed “raid” into the search function and got 6 results no of which were specific topics on raids.

I’m not sure why the search works this way because other days I can search a term and get tons of pages, still not very accurate. I try the exact same term another day and get 1 result. My only guess is it might have something to do with a cookie.

The best option for searching this forum is to use an external search engine like Google and type something like: Guild Wars 2 Forum raids.

The search function is bad, the main issue as soon as yet another thread on the same subject is created, it pushes all the other results off of the search screen. If posters searched before posting, the older threads would show up in the results.

Guide on Blocking the IP from PHISHING EMAIL

in Account & Technical Support

ShiningSquirrel.3751

The problem is that the IP-adress of the phishers will change all the time. This is cause they are actually using hacked computers. If they see that they don’t have enough fish to bait they move to a different spot.

So not really worth the trouble I’m afraid.

I agree. If spammers/scammers always used the same IP, it would be a simple matter to block them and put an end to it once and for all. The other issue here is that some of the scam emails go through actual legit mail servers, so by blocking one of them, you could very easily block email from a whole domain (like yahoo, Hotmail, Verizon, etc) without even knowing it as it can be displayed as only an IP. A much better solution is to use word filters as others have suggested in previous threads.

I was hacked a few days ago

Track, you need to stop, take a deep breath and read what others have told you to do.
Do NOT make duplicate tickets as that will make any response take even longer.
Close all tickets except the very first one you opened.
Update the original ticket asking for an account restoration because your account was hacked. You also need to make sure your account is secure before asking for a restoration as it’s a one shot deal.
You then need to wait at least 3 days. If after 3 days you have not heard back or gotten an acceptable answer, you then need to post your ticket number in the 3 days or older sticky thread.
