On reporting teleport hackers

@ShiningSquirrel.3751: how can i know that a user will use a teleport hack before she actually use it? And after she use it, once is gone it is no longer possible to make it appear in a screenshot.

Yet i have to believe how hard could ever be to write an anti-teleport hack script server side.

If ANet is waiting for us customers to report every bot which herself alone can also isolate then it is like an unwritten invitation to every customer to use the hack :S

Very bad conduct.

It’s actually very easy to tell, if you see a naked ranger suddenly appear next to a node and start gathering, it’s a hacker.

What I have done, and it does not always work, is to hit the print screen key to save a screenshot showing the name. I then add the name to my friends list, once added, you can report them easily. Much quicker then trying to select them and use the report menu before they disappear.

Killed 3 champions and roughly 10 to 12 veterans today. Not 1 single drop of any kind from any of them? I am beginning to wonder why I should even bother any more? Already level 80 so do not need experiance, no need for karma as I already purchased my exotics and have more then enough left over, so what is the purpose of fighting champs or vets? The only reason I have even bothered is to help others who have been fighting them, but it’s getting old real fast. Something is wrong, the devs know it as well as we do and it seems they just do not give a rats “kitten”. I played GW1 from the beginning, have 50/50, all collectors editions plus 2 full editional accounts, so thats 12 copies, not to mention the costumes, charector slots, storage tabs, etc., purchased the collectors edition of GW2, purchased jems, all to help support a game I loved. No more. No more money. I feel the devs have betrayed us over and over again, so I no longer have any faith in them.
I am going to keep playing as I have already paid and invested my time, but now it’s a secondary game instead of my primary source of entertainment. All they had to do was reply in this thread “we are looking in to it”, but thier silence speaks louder then any words.

Guild Wars 2 - Nice Community?

Community is an interesting mix. In game, I’ve met a lot of nice folk and only a few troublemakers. They seem to be a mix of original GW1 players and players from other MMOs. I was a little bit disappointe when I posted “LFG vanq North Kryta Province” in LA map chat. Seems that it was mostly a non GW1 crowd. Still, I may post “LFR Droks” at some point.

LOL! reminds me of when me and my guildies used to stand in Lions Arch shouting “The cake is a lie!” to see how many people responded.

Another update – Haven’t seen a yellow outside of fractals in over a week. Morale is low.

Honestly at this point this thread seems pointless other than informing the community. We might as well be posting quotes from ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ for all the attention and feedback we’re getting.

Really, not one yellow in a week? This weekend over the course of maybe 8 hours of playing i have looted about 10 rare weapons/armor, probably 2 charged lodestones and 4 corrupted lodestones. Also about 5-6 dyes and a plethora of green/blues.

I agree the looting in general has turned very poor, but not one rare in a week? seems like an outlier to me.

Seems more like you are incredibly lucky. I have not seen a yellow in a VERY long time, probobly since right after the lost shores patch. Dye drops are about 1 a day, which is not that bad, but used to be much better. BTW, I play around 5 to 6 hours a night, every night, so thats roughly 40 or so hours a week. Kind of sucks working a full time job for no pay, LOL!

I have given up on veterans and champions, I see no reason to waste my time.
Why should I bother fighting these for no reward, when I can fight a few weakling mobs and actually get some drops? I get better drops from the starting areas then anywhere else with my level 80, and this is just wrong!

Two veterans, and a mob of five of those mole things and one mining suit.
Solo.
Isn’t hard.
We must be playing in different universes.

You do not have to fight more then a single veteran and the mining suit unless you really want to. 3 Hints. 1) Watch the videos. 2) If you can jump to a walkway behind a closed gate, there is no reason to open the gate. 3) Don’t over agro.

It’s really not that hard at all.

Open world PvP server

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ShiningSquirrel.3751

Nine times ouf of ten Open World PvP devolves into nothing but ganking especially if there are no distinct factions that fight each other. How should it work in GW2? Race vs Rave? Vigil vs Whispers vs Priory? FFA?

If you want an Open World PvP Server offer Arena Net to fully pay for one (maintenance included), maybe the let you set up your own private server.

In my post i suggest that it is guild vs guild (actual Guild Wars). And this is why players would go there, for ganking and getting ganked. Also PvP over dragon events or dungoen ports, anything that holds their interest really.

And if people do not like it, they are free to choose other servers or transfer out.

Guild vs Guild on an open server? That’s the worst idea I have ever heard. I can see it now, these 400+ mega guilds taking over the whole server while the small guilds all have to retreat. Eventually you end up with a private server just for a couple of guilds.
Anet created WvW to take the place of guild v guild, I can understand why so many people seem to have a hard time grasping this concept.

I really hate to say it, but if you want an open world PvP server, there are other games out there, PLEASE stop trying to make GW2 in to a different game, it is what it is.|
I put this in to the same catagory as raids and mounts, features in other games that have no place in GW2.

First, this should be posted in the suggestions thread.
Second, this is a TERRIBLE idea in every sense of the word!
We already have WvW and the mists as open PvP zones, so a dedicated PvP server would only duplicate what is already available. Also, there are already issues with servers being full, so a single PvP server would most likely also have issues with being full, then anet would have to add another, then 1 for each region, etc, etc.

I have had similier experiances, that’s why I avoid pugs. The last one I tried was in a group with 4 members of the same guild. We faught all the way to the last boss, then they told me I had to pay a gold to each of them to continue or I would be kicked from the group. I just ported out on my own.

BUT, I have also met some very nice players as well. I was having a problem getting to a vista point as I do not do jumping very well. Another player came over and walked me through each of the jumps one by one until I was able to do it. There was absolutly no incentive for him, other then being nice to a fellow player. I have had others come over and help me fight to get a skill point or a chest after they already got it for themselves.
It’s just like real life, there are players who suck and some of the nicest people you would want to meet. Just ignore the bad, and enjoy the good, it’s all you can do.

I think it more server specific though. I run into people all the time on TC. But its a full server. Might be pretty lonely on lesser populated servers. That said…you can always change servers.

On my server (Fort Aspenwood), I have run around OR for well over 4 hours farming and did not see 1 single player besides myself. I already have it 100% mapped, and I was able to get my karma armor from the 1 single temple that was not contested, and luckely it was the one I wanted so it’s not really an issue for me.

Changing servers is not a good option for anyone in a guild or anyone who plays with friends as you may not be able to change back when you want to, and you would have to wait a week regardless.

They may have designed it this way, and it’s working “as intended”, and did work with higher player populations, but that is not the case now. If an area is unplayable, there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Anet has done this before. In GW1, when an area became to easy due to some creative builds, they modified the area to match the current player base. There is no differance here. The player base is different, so they need to modify the area to match the current player base.

Things are not always as easy as they appear. I manage a database application. The server is backed up several times a day as it is critical information. If a record is deleted, I cannot restore it without restoreing the entire database. That would mean doing a “rollback” on our entire application. It’s very easy to imagine that the GW2 database could be very similier as this is actually VERY common.

Character information cannot actually be a lot of data, they can simply take a timestamped snapshot of the items currently on char as soon as the player is logging out, since that’s probably all that’s needed for a satisfying restore, and keep them until a max timespan and/or number is reached.

A snapshot of data and a database backup are 2 very different things. A snapshot may very well be the way they will go when they finally setup the restoration service, but I doubt very much they would have anything like that already in place just for the heck of it. You would be surprised just how much data is involved in a “simple” player account. For 1 toon, you would have every bit of armor, the colors it’s dyed, stats, etc. The same for weapons, items in inventory, your position when you logged out, your achivements, levels, map completion, exp, etc, etc. Than add all other toons on your account, all your account information, and it could get very large very fast. It’s easy for an outsider to say “this should be easy, why can’t they do it”, but until you actually work on the data yourself, you can really have no clue how complex or “easy” it may or may not be. Then even when you do have an isolated copy of the data, it’s a whole other issue injecting that data in to the LIVE database, overwriting whats there without damaging anything else. When we have had issues, we have had to pay a consultant from the database manufacturer. I sat there and watched what he did. It was NOT easy, we had to down the database to do it and lock all users out of the application. It took over 2 hours and cost us several thousand dollars, and this was for a simple record containing nothing more then names, addresses and contact notes. Gail has said this is something they are working on, and of all the Anet employees I have seen or spoken to, I trust her the most. Trust her, if she says they are working on it, they are.

Do you feel like a 80 ?

I actually get what you’re talking about, and I miss feeling like a high level.

I remember when I was in WoW, and I hit level 70, and I heard that Tarren Mill was being attacked and low level people were getting killed. I showed up, and blasted all the lvl 50-60 invaders, and we invaded Southshore instead. Then the lowbies /bowed and said thank you.

I remember when i was in FFXI, I was a level 75 White mage, and I helped to protect lowbies from the attack of Kraken on the boat, by healing the Paladin tanking the kraken. Also showing up at Valkurm Dunes or Qufim killing Bogy that are disrupting lowbie parties, or to help lowbies get Kazham keys.

I made people feel safe, and I loved that feeling.
I don’t feel that here in GW2 because I cannot protect anyone. Maybe I just have a healer’s heart.

You can do that in GW2 as well, I do it all the time. Go to the low level areas, even scaled, your still much more powerful then a real lower level. See a player trying to get a skill point? help them defeat the boss or mob to get it. See someone about to die from a fight? go help them. I can’t count how many times I have done the same skill fights over and over just to help someone else who was trying to cap it.

Characters are stored on ANet servers…servers are backed up regularly (well that is an assumption…. they wont deny it as they would look really silly)….therefore character data IS available…..it may be just a little bit tiresome to get it…but data IS available so why can’t characters be restored? I think it is more a policy thing again rather than a tech issue….especially over 3 months into the game.

I not only pre-ordered, but I got the collectors edition and spent over $100 additional in the gem store, so thats over $250.00 for me. I am not very happy with the game right now, but I am hoping it will get better. I also “finished” the game by completing my story and killing the dragon, so why would I ever dream of asking for a refund? I have already gotten much more out of this game then I have out of many other games.

Yeah. They really need ascended gear to be available in places other than fractals so those who don’t like dungeons can continue the karma trains in orr if they prefer.

I wonder how long till “Heroes” will be available.

But I would say that your server is an EXTREME version of that. It most definitely is not the same on all servers. Dragonbrand for example was not that way by a longshot.

It’s the same on Fort Aspenwood, and not just in a single map.

Yes, it crashes at least once every session, and every time I log out. The next time it launches, it wants to verify the files, says they are OK, then crashes again.

Ignoring Ascended Tier

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

At the moment, the Ascended Tier is really pissing me off.

So I’m ignoring it.

I have no aspirations to attain it, no will to farm for it.

I’m just going to play the game like I was a week ago.

And if (or when) people start demanding I wear ascended gear, I just won’t play with them. And if everything I enjoy doing requires ascended gear, I’ll just stop playing all together.

MAYBE if (or when) it becomes easier to obtain AND ANet admits to their mistake and declares this is the final additional tier, I’ll be alright.

Until then…nope, not worrying about it. Right now, it’s the only thing that pisses me off.

Completly agree. My main is pretty much at a dead stop and I doubt I will play him any longer, nothing more to do, no more “realistic” goals to accomplish. I have 3 other alts, and may get my second to level 80 as he is already 56, but the other 2 will probobly never see the light of day again.

Your gaming background? Love/hate GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

I truly started multiplayer with Unreal Tournament, then went wild for it when UT2004 came out. I run my own game servers for over 9 years (including 2 different WoW servers) now and many of them are still up and running. I started with GW1 with my UT clan and we all fell in love with it. We started with it at the beginning, and survived the many updates and game changes. Some things we did not like, but nothing was game breaking and the good changes far out numberd the bad. We have also tried most of the free MMOs out there, but all paled in comparision to GW1.

I “want” to love GW2, I really do, but I am finding myself logging in, doing my daily achivments, then logging off. I had more then enough karma to get my exotic gear, but held off. I finally broke down and purchased it, and crafted myself an exotic weapon. Last night, finished all the PvE world mapping. I already had a large portion of the WvW map done, but I really have no drive to even attempt to finish it. My guild that has been together for over 8 years has pretty much died in Gw2 as most of the players have finished the story, gotten thier exotic gear, then found it boring and left. I am now the guild leader of a dead guild, with only 3 or 4 people who actually play at all. The fotm dungeons hold no interest for me as I will simply not deal with the elitist attitude of the pugs, so ascended gear is pretty much out of the question. Legendary gear has never held any interest, execpt maybe as a long term goal. In GW1, I never even got my FOW armor until it was really needed to get the 50/50 in the HOM.
Honestly, I am sad. I waited for GW2 since it was first announced, watched all the trailers, read every article, purchased the collector’s edition as soon as it was possible then loaded up on gems so I could max out my storage and bags. I purchased MANY minis to and hoped to try to finish that collection as another goal. I WANT to love GW2, I WANT to spend more money on the game, I WANT to see all the expansions they promised, but day by day, hour by hour, I want to play it less and less. :-(

Change 1 time events to allow all to attend.

in Suggestions

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

Why not have the “one time events” actually go off every few hours or so, for 24 hours?
For example. HAve the event set to go off at 3 PM, 6 PM, 9 PM and 12 AM.
Have an NPC located in Lions Arch, that players would talk to to go to the current running event.
You speak to the NPC, you are transfered to an “instanced” area for all who are attending that event.
While the event is ongoing, anyone may speak to the NPC to attend.
Once the event has ended, that cheractor has now attended the one time event and cannot attend it again on one of the other occurances.
Using this method, players in any time zone could select which event thay want to attend in that 24 hour period.
Also using this method, you could limit an event to “one time” for either a charactor, or an account.
This could be a win/win situatiuon, one time events for all, less lag as not everyone has to try to attend at exectly the same time,
and almost everyone in any time zone should be able to attend.

Also be aware if your strong password users are not sharing their passwords/accounts and their still getting hacked you have serious internal account issues.

That, or you have a serious account issue yourself somewhere. Seems far more likely to me. Do you have 2-factor authentication? Is your password unique? Is it different from your email password? Is your email separately secured? Do you have any keyloggers?

In this time and age security isn’t a given anymore. It took me the better part of an afternoon to set up vastly increased security everywhere. If you don’t have my phone, you’re not getting into any of my accounts anymore.

Don’t be so quick to blame the op.
In the first 2 weeks, I had people from outside the country trying to access my account.
Since I got the email to allow the connection or deny, it means thay already had my password. I do computer security for a living. I am the one who makes sure passwords are secure and the one who keeps viruses off of our workstations. I am very good at my job, used a very secure password, brand new clean machine that I had built just for gaming, and yet they still had my password? Somehow, somewhere, there was a security breach and passwords where compromised. Not blaming anyone, but somehow the hackers/gold sellers where able to get passwords to accounts, either from the game servers or the forums right here.

it’s kinda boring if just only do PvP/WvW….

  • just ask, no offense

That’s when you start working on the cool skins. For instance, legendaries should not be any better then an epic, execpt for the skin. The same for the dungeon armor. You set aside the really cool looking armor/weapons with the “special effect” like flames, glowing or additional animations, and make thoses what we would work for. TGhat’s how it was in GW1 and it worked great, you reached max level, max armor, and worked on getting the new skins, or accessories like sun glasses or scarfs.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Absolutly! That was one of the parts of GW1 that I truly loved. Getting max stat armor was pretty easy, and it was fun trying to get to kaneing or droks. You could just play the game and do the missions and you would get it natuarally, or you could get a run to droks, or like me and my guildies did, fight your way down! Once that was done, you could work on getting the cool skins and working on the missions. There was a grind for the “elite” armor like FOW, but that was optional, it gave you no benefit other then the “cool” factor.

Against De-promoting 'Holy Trinity'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShiningSquirrel.3751

ShiningSquirrel.3751

Please understand that being a tanker or a healer isn’t an unwanted chore, a lot of people actually love it, and to see that group support traits(skills are oo-kay still) are almost always at the end of the line, and aggros are so messy that tankers are not even viable, is pretty sad.

Moreover, this DPS-preferred community seems to be ‘all in for myself’, as seen in most world events and dungeons, people using group buffs are next to none, with everyone strictly on their own dps, killing anything that is marked. Theres barely any sense of synchronization going on. That’s what happen if you promote a single DPS community into taking care of their own healings and tankings, they start thinking that they’re the ‘chosen one’ of sorts. Even combos arent much to be bothered as far as teamwork goes.

Anyway, just hoping that you will look into this matter and review it in the future. But definitely not now, definitely, we’re already having a lot of ‘see-saw’ nerfs and buffs every week it’s hard to keep track, and the extremely controversial Ascended, it’s enough for now!

p.s. I’m a dedicated healer throughout my entire mmo life!

While I don’t really think they need dedicated healers, tanks, etc, I can see your point.
I play an ele, and at first I was using my group healing to keep others alive in the group events, but I found out very quickly if I did not attack the targets enough, I got no credit for even perticipating in the fight. It would be nice if you we got points for healing the group as well as hitting the targets.

I don’t see how a rollback is supposed to be of any help? ArenaNet, I suggest you next time just give an announcement beforehand, that there either will be a server shutdown, or that if you continue to play that progress might be lost in the next X hours. Since this is just a pure letdown.

Your assuming it was a rollback. This has happened to many of us before when there was an unexpected disconnect, either on our end or from the servers end. If it was a rollback, it would effect all players, not just a handfull. And BTW, I have seen this happen on many other client/server games as well, it’s not something that only happensin GW2. It sucks, it’s annoying and disheartening, but not much anyone can do about it.

“Highest Common attained level” means exactly that, the highest level everyone shares, not a simple majority, everyone.

You could think of it as scaling to the lowest common denominator if that helps.

Technically, it can mean both “everyone” and “majority”. Don’t you love English and communication?

As I said, I wasn’t too worried, but was just curious. Either way we are going to have people who insist you’ve ran it X number of times to run with them.

It depends on how the dungeon actually scales. It says it gets harder when you return to the hub, not when you leave the dungeon altogether and start a new session. They could do it each time you return to the hub and go to another 3 fractuls, it gets harder, as long as you do not leave the dungeon. That would mean it would not make any differance how hard it was the last time you did it, you would have to start over. I am betting on this mechanic as it would fit in with other things they have done in the past. As to level, I think they are refering to the players level, not what level of the dungeon they have reached.

Thanks, Looking forward to the new patch [Merged]

People are in an outrage, not because its a change, but because its a change that was promised would never happen.

Exactly!
1 of the main points of GW1, and what was supposed to be GW2, was that once you purchased the “max” level armor or weapons, that was it. Anyone could get max gear by just simply playing the game. It was a game of skill, not who could get the best gear. “Elite” gear was just the skins, like the FOW armor.
Some players saved and farmed for years to get it, it was a prestige item. Legendaries where supposed to be the same, the same stats as max level epic, but highly saught after skins. The big mistake anet made was not account binding the items needed to craft legendaries. Players just purchased the items needed, made them, then had nothing more to work towards. In the short term, they made money on the gem store, but it hurt the game in the long run. I think some players from GW1 are just feeling betrayed because it does go against everything the made GW different.
I have not made any epic armor yet, so I will just go for the ascended armor first, no big deal and honestly, I don’t think it is going to really be anything game breaking, but ant should have seen this coming. All they needed to do was have the new content be the only way to get some really cool skins, require infused armor, but only make the stats the same as epic.

Curious: What do you do for replay value

Going for 100% map completion and getting the rest of the achivements.
Not interested in the legendary weapons at all, too much grind for too little to show for it. I may try to level up a few alts to level 80 to see all the personal stories, but after that, I don’t know what I will do.

I have always had a problem with losing the cursor, even in GW1.
Different computers, different OS, different video cards, but still lost it all the same.

True but for someone like me who have the full 42k karma set armor and almost done with making Twilight or those with dungeon armors or Cultural 3 armors. We’re not the botters. Botters not gonna spend 10+ hours doing the Halloween events to get every achievement or work on jumping puzzles like me and others.

KrisV.5612,
What makes you think someone who bots does not also play the game? I think some people may be under the assumption that only gold sellers bot. There are many players in many online games who bot for thier own purpose, be it to get gold faster, get materials, or to have an unfair advantage in PvP. I frequent many “hacker” sites as part of my job. There was actually one poster who bragged about how much money and karma he was able to make while he was sleeping and that he was almost ready to get his legendary, then a few days later he posted he wanted his money back for the “bot” because his account was banned for using it. Anyone could be a botter, not just a gold seller.

Have you changed your password on both your email and gw account?
Those emails do not mean some one tried to log in, it means thay did!
Someone has both your login and password and until you change it, they will keep trying to log in.

Arena must ban any 1 who make an idiot comment.I hate to waste time replaying to all of them.

LOL!, so I guess you want them to close the forums and shut down the game servers then? There won’t be many people left if they did that.

K, now your just taking it a bit far. It seems like you ran UP path. Deal with it and form another PuG – it doesn’t take long to do that path.

UP,LEFT,RIGHT.Man Idc if it needs 5mins to end it. The thing is what can I do if i got kicked again just for a silly thing in the next time?
I cant change the past, but what can I do if it happened again in the future.

If your kicked from a pug, not much you can do. You can’t really report players for kicking you from thier group, they don’t have to play with you if they don’t want to. Is it “fair” does not really matter. All you can do is not group with them again, and go from there.

Something I have noticed. I have seen a LOT of bot groups. The bots useally run around in a set pattern, killing anything that gets in thier way, and doing any events that are in thier set path when they pop up. Some players will follow these bots because to the casual player, it may just look like a group of people farming, which it is.
When the players do this, they will look just like a bot, because they are acting, just like a bot.

Here is a good example. In the Char beginning area, there are 3 events that go off on a regualr basis that are close together and in a straight line. The BarBQ, Weapon parts, and clear the cave. There where bots running from one spot to the next, going back and forth over and over for hours on end. Some players would come over, see this group, and see that they where doing these events over and over, and it was easy, with a lot of drops due to the larger group size and follow them back and forth. If I was looking at these players and only judged them by thier behaviour, it would be VERY easy to assume thay where all botters, as they all behaved exactly the same, followed the same path over and over, and performed the same actions time and time again.
I reported those botters that where obviouse, the ones with similier names, armor, pets and account names, but for all I know some of the “real” players I saw there could have been botters as well.

The point of this, is if you see a group of players who look like they could be botters, don’t follow them around, doing the same things as they do, or you could look like a botter as well.

FYI, on the same note, those same botter groups that where in several areas for weeks are all gone now. I have to wonder how many legit players got caught up in there because they where acting just like them?

Finally, I do tech support for my company, I answer the phone, emails and open and close tickets. I only have to deal with 30 people, and I have had days where I cannot keep up. A company like anet, with millions of players, opening possibly tens of thousands of tickets? It honestly makes me shudder. I know it can be frustrating to be suspended/banned and I feel your pain, I really do, but give anet a break. Tech support can be one of the most thankless jobs, it does take time, and you just need to make sure you give them as much information as possible. It is far better to give more details then is needed, then to not give enough.

Gaile, I can only speak for myself, but if something happened to my account, and the only way to get it back would be to delete the inventory but keep my toons, I would go for that. “Things” can be replaced, either by farming or from donations from friends.
My toons and the effort to level them and the achivements I have gotten with them could not be replaced.
