Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

Personally, I LOVE the mounts as they are, and I was very against them before the demo. The camera seems to be a large part of the issue—perhaps a toggle to “Use standard camera when mounted” would work.

That’s my problem here, I understand people want this issue resolved, but if they in any way touch the animations, that’d be a reconsider-my-purchase thing for me. Those animations made me pre-order. They’re that slick and detailed.

And my problem here is that the animations make me violently ill, so if they remain a mandatory part of gameplay, without any way for me to mitigate the effects, I won’t be purchasing the expansion, even after playing the game since beta. Those animations keep me from pre-ordering, they are that debilitating.

If they can’t give us an option to tone down the wobbliness I will play the new maps on foot. I hope that will be possible.

The mounts are mandatory for certain areas of the game, they have stated that. They aren’t just a fun add-on you can choose to have or not. That makes this doubly frustrating, because it means those of us having the issue are all or nothing, either we get sick, or we don’t get the expansion.

It’s useless trying to have a conversation with the mount supporters. All I have been reading on these forums is basically “I got what I want, screw the rest of you”. They do not care if you can play the game or not as long as they get the “pretty” graphics.
Really says a lot about the community and the state of the game, sad.

Could be you are very much right when I see the latest message: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/developer-diary-joy-of-movement-on-mounts/

It is like telling to all of us who have troubles that we are ignored.

Not actually surprised, this is pretty much the standard for the devs and has been from the start. A new “feature” will be introduced, jumping puzzles, gliding, (and now mounts) etc and the team responsible for that “feature” will assume their feature should be required to play instead of optional. Every new map after that “feature” is added will require it in some form or another. Mark my words, every map and/or expansion from this point forward will at some point require the use of mounts and if you have an issue with motion sickness, well you will be SOOL.

Adding OPTIONS for those that have issues is a good idea, making changes to solve those problems does nothing but appease those with problems while irritating those that like the status quo

This has nothing to do with appeasing anyone, it has to do with enabling players to play the game they have spent good money on, just like everyone else. “Appeasing” was adding the mounts in to the game in the first place, against the wishes of the many MANY players who did not want them. At this point, with the attitude I have been seeing by players not effected by this, I do not care what they have to do. If someone has to take a hit in the graphic or play style of the mounts so that ALL players are able to play, so be it!

Even if it didn’t affect a family member, I would not have a problem with losing a trivial cosmetic thing so that hundreds of others could enjoy the game as well.

Thank you. It’s refreshing to see someone who thinks about others instead of the selfish attitudes that seem to be so prevalent on the boards for this issue.

I don’t want to sound too heartless, but how do you people that get motion sickness deal with other games? Demand from developers to change core mechanics in movement in those games? Because that’s what would have to happen to riding in GW2 in order to remove the cause of your problems. And an ‘option’ and flick of a switch specially made for you is not a fix for this. You can’t have 2 different mount interactions and movement handling in game because one will always be better and have an advantage over the other.

Currently, mounts feel exactly what many people expected it to feel. Natural, heavy and organic when moving around.
Devs might make some minor changes and/or try to mend this issue, but a complete change in mount mechanics is not realistic at this point (2 months before release) and it is unfair toward all the people that enjoy mounts (which are I believe in the vast majority).

For me, I do not get motion sickness in any other game except this one so your question is moot. And as for mounts, it has been shown on this very forum the “vast majority” did not want mounts in this game in the first place. It was done to appeal to a vocal minority just like raids.

I have been playing games since the Commodore 64 days. FPS are a favorite with crazy gravity and all kinds of crazy movements. I have played many MMOs including WoW and used mounts many, MANY times. Not once in any single game have I gotten sick to my stomach and a headache like this. I do not suffer from motion sickness at all in real life, not even the slightest. There is something wrong with this game, something that is effecting players and something they will need to fix before release or the complaints will just continue to grow.

I also have motion sickness with the mounts. I could only play for a little over 45 minutes then I had to log out. Very unpleasant experience. I am actually regretting purchasing this expansion as I do not think I am going to be able to even play it like this. :-(

Also, I play FPS games all the time and have for years. I play all kinds of game all the time and have never gotten motion sickness in any single game except this expansion.
I purchased the deluxe game for $80, if this cannot be fixed would we be able to get a refund without effecting our core games?

I gave up after getting it down to 25 health, then having it reset to 100 and being told to try it again. Nope, another battle I will never finish. Never finished mordromoth, and will never do this one so that’s 2 LS I will not complete. Really aggravated/frustrated and wondering why I bother even playing any more as it’s becoming less and less fun to play with every patch/update/LS.

Frustrating in the extreme. Jumping puzzles everywhere now? Give me a break. Can’t really give any feedback on the story as I exited the game while fighting my doppelganger. Far to annoying and no fun, so I exited the game and went to play something else instead. Patch by patch, it’s getting less fun to play with all the jumping now required and the terrible battle mechanics, it’s not Guild Wars any more, it feels more like a platform game.

Seems for everyone else its if theres no reward I dont do anything.

Guess you missed the first part “Would it be “fun”? not really but maybe mildly amusing and a time waster.”
If it was fun, I would do it. If it was not fun I would need some other reason to do the content and currently there is none.

Could I use the EXP? nope. EXP is pretty much worthless.
Could I use the karma? nope, not really any use for it.

“wandering” not wondering.

These things are for noobs to level up and gain xp.
So yes, XP is helpful
and yes Karma is helpful too, obviously. (i blew 600k karma in a 1-2weeks, i need some more.)
good drop, of course not. It should be obvious from super hard JP end chest.

If you log in at the wrong time and place, it can seem so. I logged in during the middle of the week and went to several world bosses. I was the only player there. Looked dead as a door nail with the events running. If that was all I did and logged off, I would have figured the game was dead and no one was playing anymore.
But instead I then went to the map where the dailies where running and it was full. Bitterfrost was also populated as was the cursed shore. It all depends on where and when.

OP reports that he was told to kill himself, and we have at least two other users saying he should shut up and play another game or quit. Such a lovely community.

Nothing new. I have been told to kill myself, and had them threaten to cut my throat.
There are many toxic aspects of the game and as far as I can see it does no good to complain or report as nothing is done and no one cares. The devs have even added more events with the same fail issues recently so sadly the many years of complaints have obviously fallen on deaf ears.

It’s really crazy that a big game like GW2 don’t have a way to reset accounts. It’s a commom issues, so commom that in some other games you can just create a new char clean, to have all the leveling experience new.

Luck to find rare itens and currencies really ruin the experience.

Just so your aware, unless you have been playing on the account for years and have acquired millions of luck, it’s not really going to make any noticeable difference at all.

Even if you have, it’s still not gonna make a noticeable difference.

How about if you keep killing the same mob without killing anything else, have diminished returns kick in? If your really not AFK you are not going to be sitting in one spot killing the same mob over and over again and if your just watching and not playing, why would you care? Sure, they could just keep moving to another spot and start on another mob, but at least they would have to be doing something.

I personally wouldn’t even comment on JPs if they didn’t have content locked behind them. If they were purely optional, I wouldn’t care how hard they were as I would simply not do them.

I totally agree with this. JPs where originally optional content, now they are required just to complete a map. More and more content locked behind them and made harder and harder.

which jp is required to complete a map?

None of them are required for map completion.

Maybe you need to go take a look at the HOT maps again.

Anniversary sale for GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ShiningSquirrel.3751

This may be my inner fanboy speaking (Or the 5k hours cough cough) but the game is definitely worth 60$.

Playing through all 4 campaigns will probably take you at least 100hrs. (150-200 if doing some side quests) And that is with one character only, no hardmode, no titles, no friends to play elite content and dungeons, no farming for some nice looking gear and no PvP (okay this one is basically non existant these days)

That being said though I really wouldn’t mind them putting it on discount to get some new players into it who maybe haven’t seen it yet. And it’s not like goldsellers or bots could get any worse…

I agree. You can actually get the first 3 core games for $10.00 each if you buy the trilogy package but EOTN is still $20.00 so that’s $50 for all.
What would really be good is if they gave away the trilogy. That would bring in new players right there, and if they wanted to link to GW2, buy EOTN. More or less the same thing they are doing now with GW2, core game free, purchase expansions and receive core game.

lets play a game were we run around murdering things,
oh, but that floppy fish hurts our feelz XD

how many tens of thousands of animals did you massacre for the 900 vials of blood which you needed to make your shiny Nevermore staff? XD

Some of us do have feelings and show it in game. When it used to be a daily to run around and kill the bunnies and other small random wildlife (Ambient Killer), some of us would skip those and do others instead. Killing something that is trying to kill us is one thing, killing just for the sake of killing is another and this fish actually has nothing to do with either.
The animation does not show the fish being killed, it shows it being slowly tortured. There is a difference that any normal human being with any sense of empathy should be able to see.

Think how it would play havoc with the gem store as well. On the PC, it automatically connects you to paypal if you use that option to pay, not going to happen on a console and the way Sony and Microsoft are they would probably want you to purchase gems direct from them so they could get their cut.
Than as others have said the patches. Patches on a console have to go through a long process before being released so doing a patch even once a month would be a tedious process if even possible so forget about 2 patches in a week or even in a day.

How many of you come to this very forum and when you go to login, your information is auto-filled in for you? If your browser saves a login and password, it is available to anyone on the internet who knows how to retrieve it. All you need to do is visit the wrong website. If your using FireFox, try this. Go to options, security, saved logins and see what this one browser hase helpfully saved for you. It will show the website address, login AND password. If it’s visible there, it’s available to a hacker who can get you to visit his site. This is available on almost all browsers, you just have different ways to access it. Below are 2 websites that can be useful The first will check a password you may think is secure and tell you the average time it would take to hack. The second will tell you if your email address has already been compromised. If you find your email address is on any list of compromised sites, change your password ASAP and go to that site and update your information.

because it is really difficult to answer the question: “if you have a dye in your backpack, but have not learned it, should it be ‘known’, or ‘unknown’?”

That should not even be considered an issue, an item or dye is has a status of either locked or unlocked, there is no status of “could be unlocked”. Your reading a database entry of a 1 or a 0, nothing difficult about that at all.

Any suggestions on how to do this without making the TP compare every item on it to every item in each individual’s account each and every time a player opens the TP, simultaneously for every player doing so at that moment? I’d rather not wait thirty minutes (random figure, I’m not a programmer, I’m just married to one) every time I press O.

It already does it, hover your mouse over any item and it will tell you if it’s unlocked or not in real time. Do a search on any item, helmets for example. You can move your mouse down the screen pretty much as fast as you can read it and see if it’s unlocked or not without any lag at all.

[Suggestion] Dodge arena

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ShiningSquirrel.3751

So, an upgraded version of the “learn to dodge” thing presented at level 3, then?

Yes and no. Those only show you the mechanics but do nothing to really teach you timing or “skill”. I am thinking something more like a practice arena.
Think of it like target practice for dodging, or even like jumping puzzles.

When many players start doing jumping puzzles, they keep failing. The more you do them, the better you get. How many players have done the same puzzle over and over again until they could do it every time without failing?

If there was a place where you would go that all you did was dodge, where what you had to dodge was random so you could not learn a pattern, you would learn to dodge or you would not make it to the end. If you kept trying over and over, eventually you would master it just like any other skill. (and get a title "Miss me, miss me, now you have to kiss me!)

The mechanics behind it? I honestly don’t know as that would be something for the devs to figure out as only they really know what they can and can’t do.

Something like this, a practice arena could be useful for other skills as well. How many players have we seen complaining about other players not knowing how to use CC?

You “should” learn how to play the game just from playing, but some things could benefit from being able to practice them outside of combat.

With unlimited dodging, would people just spam dodge the entire time?

That’s the whole idea, you stand still for a fraction of a second, your dead, and just spamming the dodge skill would not help if you where not paying attention on which direction to dodge in. You could very easily dodge right in to the path of a projectile or AOE.

On my server we had mobs that used instant kill laser rifles and tactical nuclear weapons. If you where hit, you died. You learned VERY fast to dodge and shoot the nukes out of the air because you had to.

An area where your skills are useless, and mobs one shot kill you, but you have unlimited dodging. Put a chest at the end. All you need to do is get to the end of the gauntlet to claim the chest. If you can’t dodge, you have no chance, but if you keep trying you WILL learn how to dodge attacks.

BUT, HOT is not fun. I played through it but there is a lot of content I have not and never will touch. The mordromoth fight? far to frustrating. I gave up after a few tries as there is challenging, then there’s just annoying. Luckely there is nothing I am missing by skipping that fight, but if it had to be completed to continue the game, I would have quit.
There is a fix. Let a player choose easy or hard mode for their personal story. Rewards for “easy” could be much less then for “hard”, which would also give you a reason to play through content again.

Myself? I purchased season 2 which I missed and really don’t have a problem with it, even being locked out of areas. In almost any other game, if you don’t purchase the DLC you can’t access that content. Maybe what they really need to do is call it DLC so new players who are used to that term are not put off?

The error codes are listed here. https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Error_code
Usually there is some additional on screen text that gives the reason, but as others have said “045” simply means the account was banned.

As far transferring characters, that is not possible, and once you add an expansion key to an account, that becomes part of that account as well. Since you have already added your ticket to the 3 days and older thread for review, all you can really do is wait for an answer from support but to be honest, I would not get your hopes too high.

This is why avoid all the pvp games like the plague. Why not simply add “karma” to the games (for lack of a better word)? You leave early, you get bad karma, get too much and you are no longer allowed to play until your bad karma resets.
AFK? don’t move or use a skill for x number of seconds, your kicked and get bad karma as well. That could prevent AFKers in a lot of events as well.
