Steam OS

Then your talking about a console, and like I said, I already have all the consoles I need.
If all it does is play games, it’s competing with the Xbox, Playstation and Wii not with PCs and in that case, it has nothing to offer that my other consoles don’t already have and more.

FYI, I downloaded and setup the current version of the Steam OS and after spending a couple of days playing with it, I am even more convinced it’s only going to be a flash in the pan and easily forgotten. It’s really nothing special at all and setting it up was a HUGE pain, far more then the average gamer is going to bother with before they get frustrated and give up.

I’m talking about a desktop console. A PC replacement. Far more powerful than the Xbox One or PS4 and always will be. Those consoles can’t hold a candle to the hardware I am running SteamOS on. It has EVERYTHING that your consoles do not.

This means that complex and deep games like GW2 or other MMOs could run on SteamOS without worrying about a console controller. It also means it will run games that are available on all platforms much better than any console.

It is not a PC replacement by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a console, nothing more. I can put my Xbox on my desk and it is still only a console. As to running games from any platform, well that is true, as long as that platform is Linux or Linux, or maybe even Linux. It does not support the huge PC games library, which is already a major flaw. GW2 run s flawlessly on my PC on the highest settings. Why would I need more power? You can run an old DOS based game on an I7, but it is not going to make the game run any better. Since you are stuck on a Mac, I can see where you would want an alternative for gaming but those of us on Windows based PCs really don’t need another gaming OS, especially one that does not support 99% of the games available and never will.

I have a PC and it does far more then Steam can ever hope to do so your argument is falling on deaf ears. Steam OS offers nothing that I would be interested in, absolutely nothing at all. I have no use for a light weight OS, I want an OS that can do something else besides play games. Dedicated gaming machines are actually a thing of the past.
Now people want something that can do more, something that can be a whole entertainment center. Steam is a leap backwards.

But I don’t want or need it to do other things – I have a Mac for that.

If it can a) turn on and b) play games, that’s al I need in my high power desktop console.

Your gaming experience would be better AND cheaper with SteamOS on your hardware instead of Windows – period.

I feel bad because this really doesn’t have much to do with GW2 other than hoping Anet ports to Steam, but it’s a good discussion.

It makes sense for them to make the game compatible with the Steam OS because it is a OS specially designed for games. It is simply obvious that many gamers will use Steam OS (me included). It might not be suitable for the casual crowd, but it is one of the best things in the history of gaming for, well, gamers.

This is not a new revolutionary OS, it’s just a stripped down modified version of Linux, nothing more. There is no “porting to Steam” or making it Steam compatible. If it runs on Linux, it will run on the Steam OS. The only thing really different is licensing and distributing it through Valve.

It only changed the appearance of the existing UI. If you screen is not taken up 99% by the UI now, it would not be after you modded it.
Think of it like going in to the windows control panel and changing the color of the windows borders. That is all it does, changes the colors or texture of the existing UI.

No gaming company is gong to stop producing Windows games and move to Steam. You go where the money is. Windows is the dominate OS and Steam is not going to change that. I find it mind boggling that people are pushing for ports when the OS has not even made it past the testing phase and may never even get off the ground. I wonder how many here have even bothered to download it and try to get it working?

Because THIS gaming console can exceed your wildest dreams of power – it’s a PC. And it’s a lightweight OS designed for gaming with NONE of the overhead (or legacy bloat) of Windows.

I am dying for the day I can put my self-built Steam Box on my desktop in place of my Windows PC. And that day is coming… faster than you realize.

Nerfing is always a bad thing, but I’d like to know how you “leveled from 400 to 500 in less than thirty minutes”.

P.S. Loved the Sheridan quote

It’s easy to level using discovery. When I originally leveled, I did not discover all the recipes. (and they reset the exotic discoveries) When I was ready to level up, I used a crafting booster then discovered recipes.
For instance,
There are 11 different orichalcum inscriptions.
I crafted 4 of each.
I then crafted 11 complete sets of weapon parts. (focus, staff, trident, scepter)
That gave me 44 recipes to discover for just this one batch.
Then I went in to the discovery panel and “discovered” each recipe. Each discovery was worth several levels easily when using a booster. I did this for several different types of inscriptions. Did the same thing with tailor (which was far easier because of 6 types of armor to discover) and just finished leatherworking as well.

FYI, 1 of the “goals” I set for myself was getting a complete stack of each type of crafting material so I have been hoarding it for a very long time. I had over 750 of just ectos alone. And no, I do not actively do any farming, just play the game, salvage and gather everything I see.

Leveling crafting and ascended weapons. I have been collecting it since it was released and still do not even have a single stack of bricks.

lolwut? that gives you like 1/1000 of of the needed xp. It would take you a year to lvl that way. a stack of bricks? what the hell would you need a stack of bricks for? the truth is the bloodstone dust is dropped WAY too often & used for way to little. It’s kinda nice that you can use it in the fractal thing, but still.. not useful enough.

Who said anything about leveling using only dust? I guess you did not bother to read where I leveled from 400 to 500 in less then thirty minutes? I do not “need” a stack of bricks, but people complaining that it takes up too much room have no idea what they are talking about. If I do not have a full stack, then that means I still have plenty of storage for it that would not take up any additional room from any other material. “I have 10 stacks of dust and I don’t have any room for it”. That’s only 25 bricks if they take the time to refine it. It’s simple, if you don’t want it and don’t want to refine it, just delete it. Problem solved. Why call for a nurf of the drop rates when other players are still using it? It’s amazing how selfish some players can be. “I don’t need it, so remove it so no one else can have it either”.

Why? Don’t you want superior performance of light-weight game focused OS running on any monster hardware you choose?

There is zero reason to ever use Windows for gaming.

The best use of resources would be to begin to ween off of Windows, onto SteamOS.

Game is originally (debate “currently” elsewhere) built around putting in a bit of effort to get appearance items. Allow people to make whatever they want, and there’s now no point to playing the game to look good.

Never mind the fact I’m totally against increased loading times do to the sheer unknown of whatever someone else has done. Make it a toggle? Way more work and my client still has to support the load.

The games that let you make whatever you want usually lack anything to do other than just make that stuff. I like doing stuff in Guild Wars 2 while going “kitten , I look purrty”, not just stand there.

It has nothing to do with your game, your load times or anything else on your end. That mod only changes the appearance of the graphics on the computer of the person who is using it by swapping out the actual skins for local ones. No one else would see any change or even know they where using it. Myself? I never saw the point of modding the appearance of your armor if you are the only one who could see it. In GW1, there where mods for the UI that did look nice but I never bothered with any of those either.

All I can really suggest is if you don’t need it, just delete it.
I would actually love it if they would allow it to be sold on the TP, then players like you who do not want it, could sell it to players like me who do want it.

Just an FYI, leveling crafting is much easier using discovery. I have 2 professions at 500 already, and it only took roughly 30 minutes of crafting each to get them there from 400. It takes 100 dusts to make a single brick. If you got 1 crafting profession to 425 so you could refine it, you could clean out your inventory of it in a few minutes. I know you have no use for it now, but who know what they will introduce later on? I am not going to craft any ascended armor, but I am still trying to amass as much of the materials as possible for now in case I change my mind. Since it’s so time gated, if you don’t do it now and you change your mind later, there is no going back.

Ok, this is weird, someone in my guild gave me that website and he said he bought gems from it, and that website isnt in that list.

Just because they actually sell codes does not mean they are legit. It has happened many times with many games, where a site will use stolen credit card info to purchase codes, then sell them at a discount to others. When the fraud is discovered, it’s the person who used the codes who lose their accounts. My 2 cents, that site is using an anonymous service to hide who the true registers/owners are. If they where legit, they would have no reason to hide that information.

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE Guild Wars 2 and I’m hooked and aware that it is a new game. But I miss Elona, I miss Cantha. I miss all of the good old lore with GW1. It’s like we’ve slowly drifted off the old lore from GW1. What happened to the Gods? What happened with Elona and Cantha, we want to visit it. Am I the only one feeling like this? And I mean absolutely no offense to ANET, honestly, it’s still a great game. It’s just that I really think it’s time to wrap up the old stories again and mix it a bit more with the new ones.

If you want to enjoy playing GW2, it’s best to think of it as an entirely new game with no connection to GW1 other then the name. Sadly, you will be much happier in the long run.

What do you use bloodstone dust for? Also, I don’t champ farm unless it’s for finishing a daily achievement. Most of the bloodstone dust comes from champ bags that drop from fractals and dungeons.

Leveling crafting and ascended weapons. I have been collecting it since it was released and still do not even have a single stack of bricks.

Then maybe it’s because your doing a lot of fractals or dungeons? I do not do either of those as there is no sense in doing them once you have gone through unless you are just farming them, which is not my idea of fun. Basically, if you do anything that has a lot of champs and spend lot of time killing champs, you really can’t complain that you are getting too much loot that drops from champs. That really makes no sense. It’s like complaining that you are getting too many dungeon tokens from doing dungeons.

"Humans always in the way"

The Canthan district used to be there. As you may already know, Divinity’s Reach is divided into several districts, some of them assigned to refugees from the other continents.

The Canthan District however was removed at the last minute before release because Arenanet got complaints about it from asian countries. So they removed it and created the large hole.

Who in their right mind would compla—nvm. Forgot. People.

^ this. If the world would be better if we humans weren’t on it, then we’re doing something wrong and should collectively admit it… Won’t happen, but that’s a different story..

They haven’t fully revealed Scarlet’s intentions, but, from what little I can figure, she went out of her way to kitten off the humans and then dragged them and everyone who helps them into a war of attrition fighting guerrilla warfare, luring allied armies against strongholds and pitting them against “axis” forces only to slip away at the end, having achieved whatever success she desired (generally something she used their combined talents to create). Each time, she brings forces together that compliment one another, who believe by working together and with her that they may achieve superiority, but in the end, its all smoke and mirrors and when the pain train comes, she’s left the station and disappeared with her prize.

She’s tied to the dragons in some way, and its been theorized that she’s trying to tap the “ley lines” of dragon energy to either revive or strengthen a dragon (probably the next dragon we are going to fight a campaign against in game. In truth, she herself may BE a dragon. The name Scarlet makes me think Primordius, but… that’s all just my theory based on what I’ve seen. It gives her motive and means and explains most of her actions. She WATCHED us take Zaitan down… She knows she needs the airships to counter the remaining air fleets from the final Z-day attack (hence, the aetherblades). With a far more exhaustible supply of troops (destroyers?) than Zaitan, she’d have to play it smart, make alliances herself and exhaust the allied armies using critical strikes to both further her destructive plans and keep herself defended or out of view entirely. And, a sylvari (Treehearne) led the final attack on the Z-man with the pale tree’s support, so her choice of a sylvari form could be an association from that. All just walking through theory, but fun to think about.

If I was writing this, I’d want a “HOLY KITTEN” moment to hook folks in, where if they looked back over the whole story, it would all suddenly make sense. It would require months of “details” for us to see, but overlook because they either aren’t important, or aren’t tied to anything of particular meaning. Then, we’d go on a final “chase” to capture her and back her against a wall, but that would be a part of her plan, and our ambush of her becomes a downright massacre of our own forces as she reveals her true goal and possibly her true form. Bonus points if she kills off some of the “good characters” where only the hero (us) can rise up and carry the torch forward to end the very direct threat of a dragon and her minions.

but that’s just me.

Nah, it’s much simpler then that. Scarlet had the hots for Logan, but he spurned her the queen. She’s just getting even.

It should display the tax when you’re buying. I am not subject to tax in my area, but it showed me a “$0 tax” sort of message when I bought gems last time.

If anything, it would be something to take up with your local/etcetera government. ANet is not charging taxes to profit – they don’t get to keep it, it’s not them you need to be mad at, if anyone.

If it’s not tax, I hope it can be resolved and I’m sure it was an honest mistake. I would focus on recovering your password first.

There is no password to recover. Again, the new support system that has been in place for several months does not require a user name or password to use. Click on support on the top of the page, then submit a request. All support tickets are now handled via email only.

It is not bullying for other players to kill you in WvW, that is the purpose of the area. WvW IS a PvP zone it is not just like PvP. It can be done but it takes time. You just need to run with the zergs for a while, and pay attention to what color your world currently is.

Players calling for the devs to be fired and calling them thieves is not going to get anyone anywhere and only shows the worst of the community. Anet made the only choice they could in this situation. You may not like it, but no matter what they did someone was not going to be happy, so in this case they chose to make the smallest number of players unhappy. But are you going to continue to defend this flaw by saying “oh but other games have that same issue as well!”

Come on. Just because other MMOs do this same bad design, doesnt mean it cant be fixed and improved to get rid of that flaw.

Yes other games have Level grinds, but I dont like it there either. Think I only complained about boring leveling in GW2? When something like leveling is boring and grindy for the sake of being a grind, I call it out in any MMO I play. Including this game, because I want more fun, not more non fun.

It’s only a flaw in your opinion. In my opinion, it’s one of the games strengths. It’s one of the few things that is consistently fun to do. Some of us like to level alts, but I guess since you do not like to level, every one else should bend to your will?
After seeing your posting history, you seem to like very little in the game and want the devs to remake it almost from scratch, why do you play?
If you hate the way nearly everything works, why do you struggle with it?
I really can’t understand how someone can hate a game as much as you seem to hate GW2, and still keep playing it.

So… May I wait until they contact me again or can I do something else?

If they told you they investigating it, you should give them some time. There really is nothing more for you to do until you hear from support.
