You should consider that not everyone actually wants to get to a competitive level. I don’t care about ladders or ranking, just occasionally get the mood to fight some people. The random cluster-kitten that is hot join is just right for that, and I have no intention to “advance to the next level”.

As such I think a casual pvp option should be left in.

I think Scarlet would have worked out better if she was less annoying and actually acted smart and calculating rather than trying to imitate the Joker, and also if she was less of a Mary Sue. As is I just wanted to be rid of her, and didn’t feel like listening to her smug boasting. She didn’t feel like a credible villain and didn’t earn my respect, so why should I care or listen to anything she has to say?

I’m kinda shocked that being the main heroes means our characters are forced to commit murder on a beaten and defenseless enemy. I’d have preferred to capture her.

She seemingly killed one of your friends and was actively trying to kill you while you finish her.

Killing of a character is such a cheap and cliché way to create artificial drama that I’m glad anet didn’t go down that path. Hate when stories do that just to be dark and gritty.

I agree to some point. We have mass events with 200 people participating. It should be “You, the heroes” , not “You, the hero”.

Getting to that point was a group effort but you actually finish her in your own instance, solo.

I love my character being the main hero, and I have no interest in being the humble soldier, or otherwise just a background character. There have been many complains about how NPC’s overshadow our character or not being acknowledged in the past so I’m not the only one who feels this way. Guess you just can’t please everyone though.

We already know what’s going on, and there’s going to be an epilogue on the 18th which I assume will summarize everything as well.

Personally I didn’t want Scarlet to go on about how awesome and smart she is, her being told to just shut up because she is doesn’t matter felt satisfying. She didn’t deserve a villainous speech in my opinion.

I’m amused that Braham simply said what was SUPPOSEDLY what so many fans were thinking throughout the entire story arc.

“We don’t give a kitten about Scarlet’s reasoning! Just kill her and get on it with A.net!!!”

Well, be careful what you ask for, I guess.

I liked that part for that reason actually. Scarlet was an annoyance, wanted her to just shut up and go away, Braham said exactly what I was thinking.

Scarlet was a bad character and still is, glad she’s gone. Kudos for letting us actually defeat her at the end though.

I do like Destiny’s Edge v2 and enjoyed their interactions with the player character, I hope they’ll be sticking around and keep building on the dynamic between us as well as each other. Braham needs a haircut.

LS story had bad pacing, and a really slow start, got better once we actually started getting some information (so around Origins of Madness).

I find it had a satisfying conclusion, and the long overdue return to focusing on dragons with the reveal at the end makes me optimistic about where the story will go next.

Getting together a group in GW1 sucked, and since a lot of missions required group synergy you couldn’t just hop onto a character and take skills you like, you had to be a specific class and (often cookie cutter) build. Because of this getting a party could take ages, as well as creating the issue where some classes were required and in short supply while others did not fit a niche and were often left out altogether. Add to that if someone in your group was bad and didn’t know what to do you could end up wiping faster than it took to group up to begin with.

Allie, you have told us about the intentions behind this class and what the ranger should be, but I think it would be interesting to know what you folks think about their current state and what the ranger is. Telling us what the dev team feels are the ranger’s flaws and failings could help with getting people on the same page and brainstorm solutions towards a shared vision.

Proposal Overview
Let pets revive on their own after a short period, make all healing also revive the pet.

Goal of Proposal
Since in their current state pets go down so quickly in certain situations decreasing the downtime this causes would be another solution to counter this, just embrace the fact that they’ll down and make it less of an issue by returning them to combat faster.

Proposal Functionality
Once a pet gets downed it will regenerate its health or revive after a few seconds, if the ranger uses one of their healing skills the pet revives instantly.

Associated Risks
None I can think of.

As Orca pointed out, some people aren’t as fond of the pets. The idea of the buff would be to appease everyone. Also, what if stowing the pet and having an aspect gave the Ranger some kind of aura that communicated to others they are in that “aspect”? Would it still feel like the pet was a part of you if them being stowed affected your physical appearance?

Rather than stowing/removing the pet could just be made unable to attack, take damage or be targeted. It’s still visually there running after the ranger, just not doing anything. Would save devs time on creating new visuals as well.

The real challenge is finding a middle ground between this and wurm/tequal/marionette. How do you design an encounter that is both challenging yet doable by groups with players of different skill levels and scales for random numbers?

Got to keep in mind people do somehow manage to get downed at golem, so if the events were made harder those few baddies could fail it for everyone else.

Specific Game Mode
PvE

Proposal Overview
Give each pet a different set of support oriented skills when in passive mode, make them immune to attack as well as unable to attack and just stick to the ranger when in this mode.

Goal of Proposal
Pets can’t dodge, yet most encounters in the game are designed with this functionality in mind so in a lot of encounters pets are going down in a few seconds because of high damage attacks or the floor covered in red circles which a player can block or dodge out of. In such a situation the ranger could just hold the pet back without it being useless. I actually like having a pet with my ranger, this proposal would retain that aspect of the class and still make choice of pet matter. Rangers would receive benefits from their pets and have the choice to not send it into battle if they know it will just die in a few seconds.

Proposal Functionality
Pets would have 2 skill bars depending on which mode they are in (guard/avoid combat). Most active skills could remain but some would be moved or replaced, while passive mode would give pets access skills like Quickening Screech, Harmonic Cry or Mighty Roar.

Associated Risks
The alternative solution – making pets not die all time – would become unnecessary.

Block second hand sales

TP should be changed so each item can only be sold once, by anyone. The sold once flag would go up once the item actually sells, so not just from putting it up on the tp or re-listing. So if you find an item you don’t want you can sell it, if you need an item you can buy it, but you can’t buy an item only to sell it back for more right then or a year down the road.

This would prevent tp manipulation and “playing the market”, but people who don’t do that and just play the game would remain unaffected.

Guess the Huge Feature Update?

Shinzan.2908

I’d say the whole Season 1 LS is an expansion worth of content.

I disagree, GW1’s expansions had new classes, new skills for existing professions and new continents with their own story, quests, items and challenges, new pvp modes and other features, which is about what I’d expect from an expansion… and the fact that most of Season 1 LS content got removed already doesn’t help.

Just saying that if they think LS is like an expansion, then huge feature update likely doesn’t mean they are adding anything on the scale of Cantha or Elona.

Anet called some of their previous releases an expansion’s worth of content, so their idea of a huge feature update might not live up to everyone’s expectations, just saying.

Mainly I expect a lot of quality of life upgrades and balance changes, and I’m hoping we’ll get the precursor scavenger hunt/crafting as well as a wardrobe function for PvE skins.

Most of the complains and issues people post about are valid and shouldn’t be dismissed.

Bugs are one thing. But people complaining about not having crafting stations in Vigil Keep? Crafting is way better in Rata Sum anyway, but that’s besides my point — my point is that I personally think it’s awesome when the story/updates affect our gameplay. It makes it more like a real world. So it makes me probably more frustrated than it should when people complain about not having their crafting stations next to their trading post and I’m like, “Guys! Everyone around you just had their homes and livelihood destroyed! And you want to complain because the settlement they’ve retreated to doesn’t have all the amenities you desire?!”

It’s not about the crafting stations but the gem store pass. There’s a thread about that already so not going to bring up arguments against it here though.

I just don’t think things need to be black and white, liking or hating the update aren’t the only options. :p

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Shinzan.2908

So there’s really two (major, still lots of sub-proposals) crowds of people complaining about overflows, and I think its important to distinguish that. You have the people who are frusturated that they can’t play with their friends. To them I think the general consensus, is yeah, it definetly sucks to a certain degree, but you have the Taxi system, so you’re not that bad off while Anet works out a solution for you. Then you have the Anet needs to magically summon up the server space to hold all of the players that want to do an event. These people either lack basic the understanding of computer systems and money required to understand what they request is impossible, expect anet to develop 10x as much content so that we can have epic invasions spread out across the maps, or are pro trolls. Whichever it is, they are immune to logical argument, so lets just leave them out of this and have an otherwise reasonable discussion

A district system should actually lead to less servers for Anet overall.

With the current system they need to have 27 servers which are always up, in addition to however many overflows. This means that players trying to get into Desolation cold spawn their 4th overflow while other servers are actually empty.

There is also the psychological factor, being put into an overflow feels inferior to being on a main server. If you only had numbered districts people would consider them to be more equal.

Another overflow nightmare in the making

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Shinzan.2908

Shinzan.2908

You are aware that new overflows are created when the first one is full, right?
So “3 underpopulated overflows” wouldn’t be able to somehow join a single overflow, unless a rather big amount of people rage-quit due to being put in overflow (in which case new players logging in would be added to that overflow anyway, and thus there wouldn’t really change anything).

You also seem to either not recall or simply ignore the fact that you couldn’t join full districts in GW1 either.

When doing marionette I often ended up in an overflow with few people but when asking in guild chat I was able to taxi into an overflow with more players and free slots, so for whatever reason overflows do spread out players over several rather than just filling up one then, a second, then a third.

And no, the point is a guild could move into an empty one rather than being spread out over several and unable to fit into one overflow because of other players.

Or… they could give us control and let us pick overflows manually, like GW1 did with districts.

Doesn’t really work when overflows are full though
And people seem to have issues with overflows overall, not specifically the part that you can’t decide which one to join.

Funnily enough I am almost sure that the same people complaining about overflows now would be the ones complaining loudest about not being able to play due to queues as well.

It would mean players from 3 underpopulated overflows could join a single one getting the numbers these events often require, or that a guild or other organized group could decide to meet up in, say overflow 9 instead of having to taxi people one by one and hope it doesn’t get full in the meanwhile.

I would like to point out that the argument of “Why should the entire GW2 player base be limited to what you like” can be used against you and those of the same mindset. Why should those who don’t wish to leave their comfort zone be forced to just because a few individuals actually find such content enjoyable? Why must those who have a problem with a certain type of content be forced to be silent simply because the content is connected to political agendas?

So Anet shouldn’t show people of color in their stories either because it makes some people (racists) uncomfortable?

Wait so you’re telling that Logan is literally mesmerized this all time? That’s freaking sad.
