I guess you could get around Druidic Clarity when you have the Wilderness Survival line but without it nothing beats Druidic Clarity in PvP imo. I for my part swapped WS out for Druid so I pretty much need Druidic Clarity.
I don’t know how hard this can be for ANet…
PvP/WvW/open world → astral force regen works only when the target is really healed, not at full hp
dungeons/raids/fractals → astral force regen additionaly works when the healed target is at full hp
Exactly, I play cele LB with either axe/dagger or sword/torch since 2 years and druid made it even better. There are some matchups where noone wins, like fighting a good scrapper or a good cele ele but it’s nice, I love it. And btw, staying alive and not shooting when reflects are up gets you around reflects.
I actually think that it’s fair to not have so much stab uptime for CAF because it needs some counterplay. If SoW would get fixed to not cancel CAF… numbers in CAF would get “tweaked”.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Surging for example, is a very neat rune for MoC + Ancient Seeds Builds.
So what I’m reading here…if you do not pay for HOT, you will not win as a ranger? Hmm!
It’s like that in almost every game, be happy that the max level wasn’t raised so you’re not totally useless.
Cele with Staff AND GS is kitten, imo. No pressure, only by your pet and if somebody knows how to avoid that you’re not gonna kill anything.
Longbow still works fine. Stealth, CC, AF generation by 5 and DMG wise. You just have to play smarter, watch the enemies buff bars and time your attacks together with your pets.

The damage from those kind of channelled spells adds up, at least for me on eles scepter aswell, as long as the break between the channels is short enough.
If it ticks for 2500, 3000, 3500 – you’re not doing that dmg every time, but rather the difference, so 500 per pulse. The numbers you see is the damage added up from the beginning of the cast.
this is a casual game. I told my sister to try it and she find it too hard and complain to me saying she thought this will be like hello kitty island.
Since I told her this game is much easier than other virtual world game except easier.
The HoT areas are end-game. Even if it’s your first char you should’ve leveled him to 80 by hand. You can’t throw somebody into end-game content who didn’t play the game in the first place. That has nothing to do with casual.
I finished VB 2 weeks ago and AB today.
Dying is normal. Let it be 5 or 50 times until you understand how the enemies work. If you die over and over again and just keep complaining instead of learning, well, then you’re the problem, not the game.
GW2 is the only game where it happens, didn’t happen before the patch. I recreated all my settings but it happens over and over again. I have no idea what the problem might be.
Sorry, but I don’t understand why so many people say HoT is so “hard” and “challenging”.
Is dodging right so hard? Is getting tankier gear if you can’t so hard? Is playing with others if you can’t do that so hard? There are always people there.
Im pretty much disappointed about the mob’s AI. Stand on an elevation and Bristlebacks don’t hit, stand on an elevation or dodge from a wall and stoneheads will stun themselfes. Mordrem snipers obvious attacks are just the easiest to dodge attacks in the entire game, same for the hammer guys. Pocket raptors… AoE and they die instantly. Just run out of the smokescales AoE.
I got VB and AB to 100% w/o getting real help from others, just some meta events, solo’ed almost every Champ on those 2 maps (This vampire thingy sucked, tho pun intended)
Overall HoT just doesn’t feel fast paced, well harder than the normal open world but not the challenge everyone cries about.
Other opinions from people that think it really isn’t that hard?
So since the big patch hit, not only did my general settings get resetted, nope – my mouse acts weird now. I don’t have the problem in any other game. Sometimes my char just makes a big turn to the opposite direction I move my mouse. About 30 – 100° (moving my char with eiter “w” and right mouse button or both mouse buttons at the same time). It’s really annoying in PvP, it sometimes cancels spells, throws me off my target and made it unplayable vs mesmers. If anyone ever had a hair in their mouse laser – it pretty much feels like it. Unplugging didn’t work.
Bristleback F2 + BM/NM + sick ’em + sotp = 15 hits ranging from 1.200 to 1.600 dmg each.
PvE, PvP or WvW?
Wolf is always good to interrupt stomps, with good communication the smokescales F2 can safe a lot of butts, fern hound gives regen, but healing spring does it already quite easily for the whole team. I’d run smokescale + wolf in PvP and WvW and stalker + smokescale in PvE
I’m not 100% sure it is fixed. At least for mobs. Was killing the Treasure Mushroom in the Glade yesterday, and a bristleback was doing his kitten est to kill me.
I was a little higher up than it, and not one of its spikes hit me . . . they all flew through.
That’s because it’s the wild form. Our cultivated form learned to hit things through selective breeding.
It’s has a sense. Marsh/River Drake F2 for example. It can bounce back to your target but it won’t trigger it again
When the enemy is slightly off to the side, don’t press the right mousekey to move, because this will break any skill, also LB 3 and 4 for example. Put your finger from the right mousekey and let the auto-turn do the rest.
Hi guys,
I just want to make a point about how I feel right now about my main since 2.5k hours. Since HoT I face many problems as a ranger, I’m talking about a PvP/WvW perspective. In PvP we are pretty much forced into a supportive role. I have no problem with that, but I have a problem with those things. It’s just how I feel right now, not a rant, just my thoughts.
1. Stability: Yes, we have stability. BUT every single one of our stability spells is tied to a cast time. Make SoW/SotP stunbreakers. Enlargement is a joke because it cancels CAF and leaves us with 0 AF. Witout stability we’re pretty much free food to CC in CAF and an interrupt-mesmers wet dream.
2. Too many Projectiles: Even if it sounds hard, but RF is useless now. There are so many low CD blocks and refects in the game now that RF became bad. Just bad. It has always been pretty easy to dodge it but now it’s just hilarious. Yes, we can pair it with CC to let it hit, but the only good way is either wolf or birds with taunt. We all know how kittened pets are and that the amount of stability on other classes is too kitten high. We need ways to get around blocks.
3. Animations too obvious: Pretty much every one of our hard hitting spells is very predictable, obvious and easy to dodge. Maul, splitlade and rapid fire are our hardest hitting attacks but it’s just so easy to dodge or block them now. While other classes can dish out tons of damage while hiding behind shields and walls, we really have to expose ourselves to get a decent hit with maul.
4. Either sustained damaged or burst: Let’s be real – GS auto hits like a wet noodle and the only way to get some burst when using the sword is PoS, which is – again – a projectile and very hard to align.
5. We lack REAL AoE pressure: Yes, yes we have traps but with resistance being thrown around like baseballs it’s very hard to make them work against decent teams. While other classes just charge at you, bringing everything around them to explode we still have to always face the enemy directly to dish out damage.
6. Our damage sucks. Yes, compared to other classes it sucks. Our damage is hard to pull off, if we do mistakes we die and the damage is underwhelming. Even at range we’re getting outdamaged. Face a hammer rev or a LB DH with your LB. You may cry now. Let alone their walls which just block everything their burst is much higher and harder to counter. As i said – projectiles.
Maybe I’m gonna add some things that cross my mind, but who knows.
Cheers guys, would really like to read your opinions.
Could we please finally get a visual difference between those 2 auras? Even the icon is just a recolour. But in the middle of a fight I just want to know if I just give some might or totally wreck myself if I sling some arrows at someone. Thanks.
You missunderstood me. I’m not saying ranger has not enough daze or that it’s a bad trait – I’m just pointing out that it’s a weird and illogical design choice.
Solo’d most champions on the new maps with my ranger . It’s the chilliest class to just play Open World after coming home from a long day. And it’s a lot of fun killing people in duels who just think rangers suck.
Could somebody explain me something?
So basically, we can use a staff when we take the druid line. So far, so good. What is the best method to gain AF? Right, TU and Staff. One of our grandmaster traits is Ancient Seeds… BUT… If we don’t use Primal Echoes we don’t have access to Ancient Seeds while using the weapon that is bound to the trait line. Doesn’t make much sense, right? So if we want to proc Ancient Seeds when using the staff we either… -need to proc it from another weapon -take glyph of equality -pop into CAF (use 3 and go out or bind ourselves using 5) -use Primal Echoes, which forces us to drop our stunbreaker/condi-cleanse for PvP/WvW. Bad Job, ANet, baaaad job.
So what could be done? A daze on a staff skill would be the most logical solution. Either on 2,3 or 4. I would aim for a 0.5 – 1 sec daze on Astral Wisp or a 1 – 2 sec daze on Ancestral Grace.
Thanks for reading, rant over.
Just compare it to other classes elite GM traits like Chronophantasma or Adaptive Armour and and then tell me LL is OP. 3 sec cd blind in the heaviest AoE meta ever.
Compared to Chronophantasma and Adaptive Armour 1 blind per ally per 3 seconds is OP. But so is Tempest Shocking Aura spam and both need a nerf.
Chronophantasma and Adaptive Armour aswell then.
Look dude, we aren’t against druid being strong, we are against blatantly stupid traits that require no skill and are still super powerful. Im all for adaptive armor change.
So why no Chronophantasma nerf? It’s exactly what you described. A super powerful trait that doesn’t require any skill.
How does Chronophantasma require no skill, phantasms have 3,396 health and it doesn’t respawn them if they die to the AoE spam.
Chronophantasma + Alacrity = cancer. Simply cancer.
Ah I get it, mesmer main. No wonder. lol.

The heavy AoE/CC pressure pretty much killed PvP for me right now.
Hey guys, there’s just one thought spinning in my head everytime I log into the game.
Why do we need Elite Specs? Wouldn’t just new maps, raids and a new weapon for every class not being tied to a trait line have been enough?
Heavy AoE CC took over the whole game in PvP. The team with more stability wins the midpoint. Too much massive healing that shouldn’t be in the game. New, hella op trinkets. It’s nice that open world now needs teamplay, but that’s all. Everything just turned into a massive blob of AoEs.
I don’t know how you feel but I think HoT turned out to be a Power Creep.

Right, I’m sorry, forgot it’s in the PvP-, not the thief-section. If I hear a thief complaining about invulnerability… Thieves have the easiest way to avoid it at all. Just let it wear off while sitting in stealth, I really don’t know how hard it can be.
In PvP, thieves have a lot of other strengths than just dealing damage. Well timed shadow refugees for example can win a lot of fights for your team. If you want a bunker… roll another class for PvP. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But saying that thieves needs massive buffs by doubling their damage because otherwise they’re useless is like saying that elephants are weaker than leopards because they can’t climb trees.
I think a damage buff to Backstab and Larcenous Strike would be a good start to put the power thief build into a better spot.
Increase the front damage to 2.4 coef and the backstab to 4.8. Also, revert Mug back so it can crit. Revert CnD and Dancing Dagger damage to what it was at release.
This won’t address the sustain issue but it will address the 1v1 issue. It also bring back D/D.
Jesus, what did you smoke? You’re already taking half of a player’s health with one backstab, do you want to oneshot everything or what?
Backstab does between 4k and 6k crits in sPvP, if you have 12k health, you might want to switch out of Berzerker amulet.
Although, 4.8 coef would be too much. I was thinking a 20 to 30% buff, not 100%. That’s crazy talk.
You were faster.
Just testing again against light golems in HotM Light Golem.
So 2180 armor and 14.000 health. Backstab was around 4500-5500 crits in that case (meta-build). So even the highest would never get half of your HP, you need to be melee and on the side/back of your enemy. Automatic cooldown through revealed, needs stealth.
Now YOU come here and ask us what we smoke? Wth! First get your knowledge up to date and then play thief some time against competent enemies (PVP, not WvW).
A lot of skills have a similar “cooldown” like backstab while being ranged, higher damage, tracking, etc. Normally backstab is only the opener on thief on the metabuild, while most damage comes through autoattack and shadowshot.
If I run with 2.9k armor and 20k hp, thiefs can take half my hp with one backstab combo. Thief doesn’t need invulnerability. The ten thousand of dodges on sb/staff/sword and the stealth sitting is by far one of the best defense mechanisms in 1v1 situations. While I agree that thief’s aren’t made for fighting on a point 4v4, they have their place in PvP – roaming between points, helping decap points, ressing, finishing. In WvW a thief can reset the fight whenever he wants. I know some very good thief players who mastered this class and it’s one of the most entertaining things fighting them and seeing them fight. If you die as thief fast, it’s a l2p issue. Even a full glass thief has so many defense mechanisms, you should hardly die in any 1v1 situation where you don’t get instant-bursted like from, for example, a burn guard. And if the fight doesn’t work well for you or it takes too long, you can reset anytime. So many thiefs I fight are rubbish, but I have highest respect from those I know to be good.

Hello guys!
So I’m a ranger main since over 2 years and finally grew the balls to play a guardian/DH seriously. I wanna make use of celestial stats, but I still need some help.
This is the build I thought of so far:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAT8fnkICVDhlDBeDB8DhF/h6KcvgPQu8T/33KAqg6E-TJBFwAE3fYxTAAaZAAXEAA
Now my questions. I want some pretty burning, not focus entirely on it, just to get some damage done while being pretty tanky. I thought of using Litany of Wrath, but with traits like Amplified Wrath together with runes of the guardian, I think about using Shelter instead. Could this actually give more burning and tankiness or would the heal of Litany of Wrath be enough? From your experience, how much healing do you recieve from the active effect commonly? I want to use this build for roaming and maybe PvP, but I would switch to traps for PvP.
Thanks for the help in advance!
Additional info: I would really like to keep Bow/Sword because the playstyle is pretty similar to my ranger, where I can kite threats and burst them down if there is an open window.

Still a good laugh

When I saw the change I felt free! Finally I am able to use some other food!
Ye, saffron bread.
Exactly, much, much cheaper and the -20% DMG while being disabled is pretty nice aswell. I guess the price is gonna rise a lot.
Pet taunt’s won’t interrupt WvW-guards from healing. Sometimes the animation shows that they attack the pet but the heal still occurs, sometimes they just keep healing.
Interesting.
If you don’t mind, lets wait one day and see if the rev/berserker taunt have the same issue, or if its specific to beastly warden.
It’s still buggy on WvW-guards, at least for Beastly Warden.
Maybe the pet was out of range? If the pet is in range, due to the boonshare on WHAO, we get about 15 seconds of swiftness, not just 10.
Daredevil rune for GS, neeeeeat. Oh what the hell, axe warriors with daredevil runes incoming.
Lead the Wind also reduces LB recharges, meaning you can spike (switch to lb → rapid fire → barrage → rapid fire → switch to sword) more frequently when calculating the cd of barrage. I prefer LdW, just not because of this and the pierce, but also because I often realize that enemies aren’t always affected by movement impairing effects, even less in random groups.
Pet taunt’s won’t interrupt WvW-guards from healing. Sometimes the animation shows that they attack the pet but the heal still occurs, sometimes they just keep healing.
w/o stunbreaks you can keep enemies from attacking for 10, 15 seconds if pulled off right. This alone seems trolly as hell.
MoC, Perplex Runes, Technobabble, Glyph of Equality, Lunar Impact, Ancient seeds… gg wp.
I may sound dumb, buuuuut…
Why would you want to play a stealth trapper in pvp? Trapper can be very strong due to the aoe condis, but if you fight at mid they will mostly be cleansed within a matter of seconds while being solo on a point, there are better options for ranger. If you want to roam between points because of stealth and stuff, you’re still not gonna beat a thiefs mobility/execute potential/ress support. So for what would a stealth trapper be better at pvp than a normal trapper? Lose a point because you’re gimping in stealth too much?
I like mainhand axe for tagging but that’s all. If you play glassy LB you need a sword or GS for repositioning, otherwise you’re pretty much dead when the frontline hits.
I don’t get how a simple command, like F2, just removes the whole damage/movement speed part…
Id really like something like this instead:
“Sniff Out!”
Your pet sniffs out the surrounding, revealing all enemies within 900 range for 3 seconds. Your next hit is a suprise attack that overwhelms the enemy, knocking him down for 2 seconds.
25 seconds cooldown
That would actually give it a use when fighting classes without stealth to combo things like maul, splitblade or entangle. Also we could reveal when we need it, not just prohibit stealthing.
(edited by Shirk.6421)
No matter which pets I choose, they will always be named “Paxi” and “Fixi”.
Germans will understand.
I have a very big problem with how the devs see pets in this game. In my opinion, pets shouldn’t be able to recieve boons, but every boon granted to the ranger should be copied 1 to 1 to the pet. This way, pets can’t “consume” boons. If you WH 5 in your whole group, the pet shouldn’t need to steal the boons from one member, but instead just being granted it anyway because I get the boons. Same goes for resounding timbre. The range is so small, that when your pet is a bit away, it isn’t granted the swiftness/regen – where the hell is the logic in this?
