It’s fairly standard and straight forward, a traditional method to use daggers in an upward position for ceremonies and food cutting

dagger is not butter-knife, nor it’s short sword

in open combat upward blade position is inferior to downward one, ofc it doesn’t apply to stabbing someone by surprise

upward blade position

  • easy to disarm (arm can be grabbed rendering dagger useless; can be knocked out easily e.g. with a kick)
  • stabs are weaker (pushing forward, lifting up, slashing with only the tip)
  • more predictable (front stab, stab from below, slashing with the tip)

downward blade position

  • hard to disarm (blade in the way)
  • stabs are stronger (from above with body weight, full blade slashes with arm swing)
  • concealed blade
  • stronger grip (a lot harder to knock out, anatomy an physics involved)

not that any of that matters in fantasy settings

It’s more about in which hand you use the dagger, what kind of dagger you are using, if it’s paired with another weapon, against what kind of weapon you are fighting etc. If you’re interested in this subject I recommend you buying some books about that.

I’m gonna play the kitten now. No it’s not. Many daggers were even built being used in the reverse grip, like the rondel .

Regardless – I like the idea (aleady thought about why it’s not possible but w/e).

For what the hell would an enginner need a chainsaw? The guys are working with steel and explosives, not wood. Just give them access to hammers/mainhand-maces. You know, fixing stuff and bashing skulls.

Depends . Berserker has power as main-attribute while the assasins one is crit. If you can keep fury up and/or have nice food also providing crit-chance, I’d stick to berserker, and ofc, vice versa.

I don’t know the problem… you guys are just telling me that my plate armored warrior has to tank more than my cloth covered necro. But guess what, it isn’t the case because my warrior is full zerker and shouldn’t be ignored when running straight into your group, but yeh – keep focusing my bunker necro because he isn’t armored so he must be squishy. This role-distribution is bullkitten, this is GW2 not another game where plated buddys are the tanks and archers the top killing-machines. My leather-armored ranger tanks a lot more than my canned guardian.

And yes, every class fits for every kind of armor:

What does using the signet after using the attack bring me? I need the sigils crit + the signets damage increase together… Path of Scars + 100% crit-chance + 150% damage.
It’s just nonsense that an ability not dealing damage, not even affecting the enemy, just buffing, wastes the crit.

An example:

I play my ranger (I know, bad enough), swap my longbow to sword/axe and use the signet of the hunt to get 50% more damage with path of scars. But because I used signet of the hunt after swapping, it wastes the crit from the sigil of intelligence. I’m just afraid from using the signet before swapping weapons because I may waste it with a normal autoattack following it instantly.

Try this:

Go to a higher level than where your pet actually stands. Jump on a lift where you can’t get up without jumping on. If it doesn’t follow you the way up, use F2 – works “best” with the dogs or the wolfs howl, and with “best” I mean it won’t…

My idea was that if we would have to avoid the clipping issues (e.g. double sheathed hammer and greatsword) the currently active item-set would stay in your hands and you can’t sheath them. Something like this.

Yes, but that’s not what was intended with this list. It should give some ideas and opinions from players, nobody is expecting ANet to just change it this way. They should just know what could be better, take some ideas, work them out and implement them in a balanced way. Even if 3 of this things would get reworked it would be a great win situation because it would be already something ANet would do about this class.

So, this things will be added to the list:

-keybind for combat/guard
-give [opening strike] an integrated reset, not only when entering combat again (or killing a foe/going stealth when traited), like every 15 seconds atleast (I’m open for suggestions).
-improve [moment of clarity] for longbows, axes and swords, like proccing when attacking the first time after stealth or evading. (This 5 sec cooldown HAS to be ABUSED, I want it every freakin’ 5 seconds, that’s what it’s for!)
-burst-skills for shortbows and axes
-improved utility of “rapid fire”, like a daze at the last hit of chanelling (would work fine for [moment of clarity] aswell)
-Hylek blowdart utility skill It could provide conditions like poison, blinds etc.

Some of the listed things are already in the list, some were added to existing ideas (like blast finishers on howls for more party support).

Couldn’t add everything, like ChillyChinamans (what an epic name) idea for [master’s bond] – splitting the damage between ranger and pet taken from both, because you would just die within seconds when your pet keeps standing in all of this AoEs.
Even here, the best thing to keep the pet alive would be a fixed pet AI.

I kept up a thread for a list of improvements rangers want to see in the ranger forum, and now I have gathered the answers regarding the patch, this is what the rangers want:

-better responding pets (e.g. F2 priority) and pet AI
-Invention for pets to avoid damage while dodge-rolling, like invulnerability/evade for the duration.
-visible buffs/conditions on the pet, without being forced to target it.
-option to fight without pets (without losing hypothetical dps)
-decent ranged pets.
-buff “protect me”, give your pet stability for the duration so it won’t be interrupted
by cc
-change “guard” so it will attack my target after breaking stealth
-change “seach and rescue” – the pet can ress defeated allies, but give priority to
downed ones and don’t intterupt it after the ally gets defeated
-rebuff [empathic bond]
-rebuff [zephyr’s speed]
-buff survival skills (e.g. “entangle”, “muddy terrain” and “lightning reflexes”)
-change the MH axe, make it either a power or a condition weapon, if this won’t work, atealst improve traits so we can decide if it’s a condition or power based weapon.
-remove range requirement from longbow
-remove cast time from “signet of the wild”
-increase shortbow range
-interrupt the swords auto-attack when dodge-rolling
-buff some minor traits (e.g. [insinctual bond])
-more party support (e.g. blast finisher on maul)
-more available aoe dmg (e.g. cleave dmg)
-MANLY legendary bows

An effective pet doesn’t need skill, it needs – unfortunately – luck.
The most it needs are fixes. I mean, seriously, you stand at the edge of a heightening, kick your foe down with PBS, your pet follows him and then you want your Krytan Drakehound to immobilize them, but no, it doesnt work, because your pet isn’t on the same level as you are.

If they would just fix the pets properly…

We already heard that the protection from dodge-rolling will apply at the end of the dodge to give us full duration but our pets will die even faster now.
ANet stated dodging as one of the basic combat-mechanics, but leave our pets excluded from this. That’s just not right.

@Serraphin Storm: The problem is we have to choose the pets for the abilities they provide, not if they are ranged or not. And even ranged – they just die. You see a red circle aorund you? better dodge-roll out of it. Pet keeps attacking…

@thefantasticg: What do you exactly mean with the “search and rescue”-thing? Why would you prefer ressing a defeated player over a downed one?

I would really like your opinions what you hope the next big patch will bring us.
This should become a clear list to gather our opions.
I’ll start, feel free to add your thoughts (I’m gonna update the list).

The important thing is if “Sick ’Em” reveals stealth when activated, or if it reveals stealth while being active, because if you wold pop it, the enemy goes invisible after 2 seconds and your pet still scents the enemy, it wouldn’t be a problem for me. But if it only works after the enemy used stealth, I wouldn’t be that happy^^

Stones and skins??

You add the skin to a lvl 50 item, if you want the skin on another equipment piece, you use transmutation stones until lvl 79. If you hit 80, you have to use the crystals (It doesn’t matter if the new item is 80 but the item with the skin 79 or lower). It works fine and it’s no problem.

Hello my fellow rangers.

I would really like to see ANet buffing our shouts.

We already “know” the changes to “Sick ’Em”, so I’ll leave this untouched.

Protect Me
I really like the idea behind this skill, but unfortunately it’s kinda useless if your enemy has CC. That’s my suggestion: Give the ranger and the pet stability for 5 seconds. The pet could still die, but at least nobody is going to interrupt it while being on duty.

Search and Rescue
Your pet resses and you have to fight the enemy alone, that’s not what I want when helping my allies out. It would be nice if the pet would just send out an encouraging shout, healing up to 2 or 3 allies in the area. As I know (I didn’t play every class long enough how it works there, please correct me if I’m wrong), nobody has to lose dmg-output to revive allies (just the slot^^)

Guard
Let the ranger benefit from this, like – if your pet breaks the stealth, you gain protection for 4 seconds, your next attack also inflicts 3 stacks of bleeding.

What do you think about that?

New Weapon Distribution

Now my 2 cents.

It’s NEVER going to happen that the number of weapons classes can use are decreased.

Now I’ll give you 2 suggestions for each class.

Elementalist:
OH torch: fire -> another set of fireskills, like spitting fire; water -> mistskills like blinding or regen; air -> skills that resemble a firestorm; earth -> lava-based skills
MH axe: How this elementalists remind me of WoW-shamans, there’s need for axes here. And yes, they know how to wield them properly, they can even summon them.
(little off-topic: is anybody using weapon summoning skills in decent builds?)

Warrior:
OH dagger: used for finishing your foes, every knight, soldier, w/e was running with a back-up knife or dagger which was used to finish off armoured enemys after wrestling them down.
OH torch: who doesn’t miss the picture of an medieval/fantasy-army marching illuminated through the night, who doesn’t love torchlight processions at all?

Ranger:
OH pistol: we know the ranger likes it quiet, but an ace in the hole is the best life insurance.
MH dagger: as already suggested, this would be lovely.

Necromancer:
OH torch: plague-flame-spitting maniacs? check! (green flames of course)
shortbow: Was also already suggested, would just love to see something like that, I mean, c’mon, banging around with magical-infected arrows? Who wouldn’t like that?

Guardian:
OH horn: the most obvious. I’m even wondering why this ins’t already usable. Buffing and stuff.
longbow: yes this is a guardian. A guardian also guards gates. And what do you do when you see a bunch of foes trying to rush your beloved castle? No, you don’t charge into them like a mentally disturbed suicidial person. You try to get them off this kitten castle. What would work better than a magically enhanced longbow?

Thief:
MH mace: what is better for knocking somebody out than a lovely blunt club?
rifle: I know it’s hard to loot somebody after killing him from long distance, but it’s safe, modern assasins do the same (ask Kennedy! oh wait…). As long as the thief isn’t screwing up like this guy ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx-hdWXuXZQ ) it should work well.

Engineer:
OH torch: igniting your matchlock pistol and letting your enemys look like Niki Lauda at the same time? Definitely!
hammer: what does an engineer want more than a weapon used for smacking faces and repairing/destroying stuff?

Mesmer:
MH pistol: Sometimes you just want to keep your hands clean in a normal way.
OH horn: Just tell me, what’s more confusing than a shizo running around with a vuvuzela?!
