It’s just kinda insane how HARD of a counter medi DPS guardian is against us. I think hard counters should exist, but this is like banging your head into a wall.
There was three on the enemy team so I basically could not team fight or fight any of the enemies at all, I had to completely ignore PVP in a PVP game which isn’t very fun.
I think one of the reasons for gating laurels back when it was introduced was in your post.
“I’m a player that always look for progression in a MMORPG and the character I’m currently playing on must be stronger at the end of the day than yesterday for me to keep playing.”
If laurels weren’t gated, when ascended gear came out players like you would have quickly crafted it then stopped playing. By slowing progress, it keeps these players logging on longer. There wasn’t a reason for ANet to make laurels farmable because players like you would have made their ascended gear and stopped playing faster. Not a plus for them and not healthy for the game.
More people I know quit from things being time-gated than they do from running out of things to do.
And then content locust as that what i see when you say devoted players will turn around and say
- Now what I got all that there is to get in the game and nothing else left to do give me MORE.
Or quit the game another 9 months while they wait for content.A devoted player is like me who played most of of the last two years with breaks now and then, Im sitting on 550 laurels atm and can do the content when ever I want.
“Content locusts”, what an awful saying.
As I said. every hardcore player I’ve ever known to play MMO’s has always quit more due to time-gated lock outs than have quit due to burning out.
Time gated stuff is bad design.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
Laurels, time-gated and temp content were the worst ideas Anet ever had.
All temp content that they removed. So much content that’s missing from the game for absolutely no reason, would give players more to do and increase the amount of people playing the game.
Should an entire class be hard countered this hard? I basically can’t do anything and the second they enter a fight I’m taken to 10% hp.
What am I supposed to do against this? I just avoided fights, back capped and stole boss kills(Forests of nifhel).
Completely avoiding PVP in a PVP match isn’t very fun.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
Took over an hour for this to go away, great feature.
They killed streaming when they removed solo queue – it was about the only content that people could stream consistently for PvP. Now matches are tedious and 80% of the time (if not more) they are blowouts for one side or the other. It’s not fun to play nor is it fun to stream/watch. Hard to be enthusiastic about something when it’s a chore to do.
That sounds extremely boring, I quit for like 1 year because necros/engineers ruined the game for me during that time and the current “meta” seems more interesting. Why did they remove solo queueing?
I only enjoy watching someone do pug vs pug games, team vs team is extremely boring to watch even from a single persons POV.

Hi! I did 2 AC speed runs in ~12 minutes, then accidently joined a group that was doing P2 again instead of joining a P3 one, waited 10 minutes, still couldn’t join a party, made my own and finished the path in 15 minutes, now I tried to join COF and couldn’t so I akitten for 20 minutes, come back, and I’m still locked out of joining parties.
Why and how long will I be locked from joining parties?
Well without streamers a PVP game doesn’t have a community anymore. So that means this game has absolutely on PVP community…
The best Thief streamers imo are:
http://www.twitch.tv/narcarsis
http://www.twitch.tv/magictoker
http://www.twitch.tv/sizer2654and they all stream pretty frequently!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Caed quit streaming, he posted it in my thief thread.
The other two have less than 5 hours of total past broadcasts.
Also it takes over a month for the past broadcasts to be deleted, so if they aren’t there from inactivity it’s because the streamers aren’t active. which is exactly my entire point.
Here’s what an active streamer’s past broadcasts looks like:
http://www.twitch.tv/suntouch/profile/past_broadcasts
That’s only my first concern, my second is an outside or even INSIDE community for SPVP. Does it exist? Does everyone just use map chat and the 10 top players who happen to know each other occasionally talk?
This is a MMO, it’s supposed to be social, but this game seems extremely anti-social.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
~6 hours of “past broadcasts” between all those people. Not active at all.
Seems to be dead.
I’d like more content that requires a static/guild/group of friends that need to progress through it as a team and can’t be pugged. Doesn’t need to be a raid.
Why? To create a community and make people want to befriend each other more.
There should be automated 100-300 gem tournaments everyday. WC3 had automated tournaments in like 2002.
Reward tracks also need to actually give things, right now they’re awful.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
I think it would be good to value both the journey and the rewards and not focus exclusively on the end result. The sub-80 you party with today, the sub-50 you teach the ropes, may become your new guildie or a valued fractal/dungeon partner in the future.
I take on board not everyone wants to go this route, but I think in the long run it can be quite rewarding in ways that are more valuable than gold and tokens.
The ease of kicking/joining/forming a group/pugging nearly all content makes people disposable and discourages actively making friends in GW2.
SPVP should actually give rewards instead of the non-existence rewards it gives now. The reward paths are really bad.
~5 hours of “past broadcasts” footage between all the thief streams listed on that.
This game has no streamer community. What about outside game community or inside community?
This game seems to have almost no steamers and a completely non-existent community outside the game for SPVP? Is there even a community IN game?
Why does it seem so difficult to PUG fractals? Seems like anything not AC/COF is a disaster, and half the time you get people who haven’t ever done those dungeons, don’t ask for help, and if told what to do, refuse to listen.
How do I go about finding competent players to play with?
Any Thief streamers besides Caed, who barely streams now? Seems like this games PVP scene has no active streamer community.
Anyone remember “8 pages of balance changes next patch!” when in reality it was 2 changes per class that did nothing for balance and like 5 bug fixes?
Anet, kings of hype.
I only play ranked now because dailies completely ruined unranked.
@ Shiyo
Well no Shiyo, I would argue power ranger is completely overpowered in less than 5% of the situations it is in. If 2 BRAND NEW players both picked 2 classes and one picked ranger while the other picked class X I would argue the ranger would win every duel between the two. Flash forward like a few months and I bet the ranger would start to lose as class X learns how to dodge, LoS, use his cds. Flash forward a year and the ranger is having a lot of trouble. Flash forward 2 years and the ranger cannot win a single fight because class X has learned how to play the game. The ONLY time ranger is overpowered is when people don’t understand how to play the game.
This is why ranger has very bad class design. A class shouldn’t be easymode instant win vs new players and completely useless vs good players.
No one said it, it’s just unfun to fight against pets that do a lot of damage to squishy builds.
Sigil procs and a pet with a decent amount of HP that does damage are COMPLETELY different things.
I have no problem with turrets, but they shouldn’t be a thing.
Then you have a problem with them………..
The difference is a pet is PREDICTABLE and easy enough to play against.
Sigil procs like Fire/Air ARE a REAL problem (same goes for Incendiary Powder that is too strong) and you are complaining about turret engis. Sighhhh…
I’m not complaining about anything, I don’t have a problem with turrets at all, I just think something like that shouldn’t be a thing in PVP for the sake of new players.
Please stop.

3 people capping the close cap point at game start tells me the dailies in general are not encouraging good gameplay.
Yeah it’s pretty bad design to encourage people to do things that don’t help their team.
@Novuake the problem with turret engineer isn’t that it’s strong or overpowered, it’s the fact that passive damage you don’t even control or press buttons or aim to use shouldn’t exist in PVP. I can kind of understand why new players would hate it.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
It’s true it wouldn’t be so bad if it put you against other people playing brand new classes.
EDIT : Not applicable since class based MMR is not enabled apparently.
Even if it was enabled it wouldn’t be applicable because I’m playing a new class after a 1.5 year break so yes my MMR and skill is OBSCENELY low, thus “ruins low level PVP” in the title.
As someone said the only PVP dailies that should exist are “win as any class”.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
That’s fine, if you’re ever encouraged to do something that essentially griefs or doesn’t help your team win it shouldn’t be a daily.
It’s only a problem at low rating though.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
Please remove these dailies, I constantly get teammates or am against players who are playing classes they have NO IDEA how to play simply because they want their daily done. It completely ruins matches regardless of whether you win or lose.
This is a question that can only be answered by first asking, who does Anet wish to balance for? The reason I say this is because ranger is a relatively low skill floor class that can be INCREDIBLY effective when it’s two new players facing each other. It can do good damage from range or be almost unkillable with close quarter conditions all while this AI that uses its skills on its own is hitting surprisingly hard. That being said, ranger has a skill ceiling just as high as any class. We flash forward to the top tier and all of a sudden ranger goes from being super good to non-existent. Players learn how to stand behind terrain and how to dodge so they don’t eat rapid fire after rapid fire. They learn how to cleanse conditions at the right times and how to time their skills at the end of the ranger evades that leave them vulnerable during the after-cast. They learn how to dodge the pet skills and how to keep moving so the pet autos go from landing 18/20 to 1/20. All of a sudden, the ranger is at a disadvantage and is required to take his play to a whole other level that he didn’t have to before. The ranger has to learn to master his terrain, be in places that his opponent can’t get to easily. The ranger has to learn to skill cancel his pet in order to guarantee his CC lands. He has to learn when to use his pets and when to use EVERY cool down efficiently because if he doesn’t, he will lose the fight. When in a 2 v 2 the ranger can’t just AoE cleave both people on the node, the ranger has to swap target over and over and over to interrupt that guy, damage this guy, pet cc the other guy. There is a reason there aren’t rangers at top tier.
So, is ranger overpowered? Are you a noob? Yes? Then yes. Probably everything is overpowered then.
Is ranger overpowered? Are you good at this game? Yes? Then no, you might need to learn to be better.
So ranger is overpowered in 99% of PVP situations, and in order to counter some ranger rolling their face on their keyboard you need to a be top tier tournament player.
Sounds fair to me.
Conditions have been overpowered for nearly 2 years now, and they’re pretty much unavoidable damage. Really makes the game unfun in PVP.
No, they haven’t and they aren’t unavoidable damage either.
They’re 100% unavoidable damage, whenever you die in in any PVP mode 95% of the damage you take is always from conditions because you can’t avoid 100% of it’s damage with dodges/evades/etc like you can with obvious easily telegraphed power based/burst attacks. Condition removal doesn’t help vs real condition classes either.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
I think foefire and forest are the least fun maps and I don’t think forest is a good map at all. I prefer the maps with more objectives than just 3 nodes.
If I recall correctly, this was a hot topic a few months ago, but the consensus was that 2 of 5 was too few, 4 of 5 was considered too many, and 3 of 5 would be just right. (Why does “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” come to mind here?
)
Are you guys remembering the player input differently? Or do you feel that what was stated would be happening did not get implemented? I’m happy to follow up, but I believe the current number represents the figure that both devs and players felt would be appropriate.
The reason I dislike 3/5 is that I can decline kicking someone but the 3 other people will kick them. Also the fact that I can be playing with a friend, and 3 pugs or guildmates decide to be mean and kick us, if it was 4/5 this wouldn’t be a problem. Having 1 person backing you up should defend you from being kicked, imo.
At the very least, can you add an option to click “NO” for when someone initiates a kick? A lot of people will click “yes” simply to remove the text blocking their screen.
Conditions have been overpowered for nearly 2 years now, and they’re pretty much unavoidable damage. Really makes the game unfun in PVP.
Wow, it was 2 people to kick someone? That’s even worse, what is anet even thinking?
How does the kicking feature still require only 3 out of 5 people to kick? Why isn’t it 4/5 to prevent griefing?
Also, I think you can’t opt to not kick someone? So it just sits there forever, taking up space on your screen, which makes people hit “ok yes please kick this person”.
It’d be nice if PVE had more viable builds and gearsets like PVP does but tank and healer roles should never ecist in GW2.
Hey folks,
How about instead of wasting over half your entire dev team on something that doesn’t benefit(and actually HURTS) your current playerbase, you use that dev time to add relevant content to the game for people actually playing the game?
So much wasted dev time on a 100% worthless feature that all existing players mutually agree upon is BAD, when you could’ve used this dev time to create new content for all of us to play.
You need to completely change your priorities, because if they simply are “gain more new players” instead of “keep existing players still playing and make them happier with more things to do”, you have no idea what you’re doing.
Sorry to say this, but the fact you’re still releasing bugged and obviously broken content 2 years after release is laughable, do you have no pride in your work? Can you not hire a competent QA team? Test things before you release them, for once, please?
TLDR: Spend less dev resources and time on pointless features no one wants, and instead use that time and resources on creating new content that’s long lasting and will actually keep your current playerbase playing.
Conditions need to be balanced in PVP. The fact the current meta is conditions is proof of this. Conditions are pretty much completely unavoidable damage that slowly kills you, and in necros case, bursts you in a fear. They are not “damage over time” anymore, they’re simply a burst class that applies conditions. I am getting sick of ONLY dying to condition damage, everyone being condition spec, and conditions being pretty much unavoidable. I can hold a node(as staff bunker ele) vs any burst build forever 1v1, condition specs slowly kill me, but I can live for a bit, necros just destroy me once cleansing fire is on cooldown.
I would not mind conditions so much if you could do ANYTHING to outplay them, no, do not say “remove conditions”, because I have tried that, I am playing the most spec and class with the most condition removal in the game, and it’s still not enough to handle necromancers.
Very nice video! Thank you for that, appreciate it a lot. Do you think the current condi meta is unfun to play against and condi’s are too strong now?
I don’t think they made any new ele builds viable in SPVP. Guardians also did not gain a viable build, overall, this patch added a bunch of new PVE builds but almost no PVP ones for most classes(probably almost all?).
As an ele main I am glad cantrips got nerfed. 2-3(usually 3) cantrips being the best in almost every situation was really boring. This opens up more viable utility options and makes the game more fun. Arcane shield is incredible now that it stun breaks, and it crits for a lot of damage when it explodes.
Are SPVP tournaments working for anyone? It keeps bugging out and taking 30+ mins to find a game. Only been able to play once in like 2 hours now..
Phantasm mesmer should not be a spec, it’s incredibly boring and takes no skill at all to play. Mesmer is also the best PVP class in the game, it needs nothing but nerfs. Shatter does too much damage with too little commitment on too low of a cooldown.
So basically it’s okay to balance a game around 1v1? And in doing so, effectively kill any viable spec besides one?
1v1 specs should not exist, especially completely overpowered ones like BM ranger and phantasm mesmer. Nerfing these specs has no effect on actual game balance, because they are completely useless and not viable in high level/team fights, but they make the game overall less fun by existing. Not having to deal with these specs 1v1, that are completely useless in any team fight, is a very very good thing. Nerfing them by basically removing them from the game only makes the game more enjoyable for everyone – except people who only have fun playing overpowered specs that shouldn’t exist.
(edited by Shiyo.3578)
Very good changes, tons of s/d nerfs(much needed). Since there’s so many good changes, it must be 100% fake.
Hardcore gamer of MMO’s for 10+ years here. I do not like gear treadmills and think they are kitten. This game got worse BECAUSE they added ascended gear, this game did not need time-gated gear progression. Horrible design choice.
Loot should not be the only reason you ever do anything in this game.
