Page 15, and a reminder that damask is 100 bolts of silk instead of 50 like every other ascended mat, and also over 4x the price of every other ascended mat. Anet designed this item to be more expensive so that silk would be useful, and forgot to revert it back to 50 bolts of silk per damask after silk became insanely expensive.

So anet, why won’t you revert this change, or change some of the ascended backpiece recipes from >>15<< damask to 15 elonian leather?

John is probably never going to even acknowledge this fact because he knows he’s wrong and he straight up refuses to admit to his mistakes or fix them. Sucks for us players, I guess.

You don’t micromanage markets to maintain equilibrium. Not only is it an incredible amount of work you can never be wrong in, it’s not physically possible inside a live game environment.

You assume that absolute parity is required inside of tiers, I don’t necessarily agree.

Except this is LITERALLY what you did, you changed silk bolts from 2 scraps to 3, then made it take 100 bolts of silk per damask instead of 50 like every other ascended material. Which actually made sense at the time, except that leather was equally as worthless and you didn’t do the same thing to leather.

  1. Daily Match Winner (Win 2 Practice, Unranked or Ranked Matches).
  2. Daily Map Player (Play on two distinct maps)
  3. Daily Kills (Kill 20 players)

This means you could probably get your dailies done in two matches and the effect on the gameplay itself would be minimal. Would you be okay with this as the daily every day?

Killing 20 players is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many and would encourage people to ignore objectives and just kill people.
Does the map daily means “Play any 2 maps” or is it “Play two specific maps”? Two specific maps is awful and means I’ll get those 2 maps every day all day, and it could be maps I hate. Absolutely no reason for this daily to exist.

Just stop being creative and trying to make interesting dailies, they need to GENERIC AND BORING. Why don’t people get this yet?

- since when is ele shut down by thieves? this is not 2013….
- engi actually counters thieves in a way, good engi will never die to thief unless outnumbered (but do you really want to imply that engis should win every outnumbered fight?)
- necro with nightmare runes shouldn’t have issues vs thief, really… but then again necro being easy target to train has something to do with necro mechanics and not thief…
- condi rangers take a huge dump on thieves… rangers are viable, they are just not as broken as celestial classes
- as i said before, mes vs thief is almost 50/50 situation….

Condi ranger is the most useless group pvp class in the entire game. You’re just extremely biased or not playing thief properly, sorry.

Thief shuts down or hugely pressures so many classes in group fights, and is the main reason so many builds are completely unviable in pvp.

If you think thief is bad in team fights you need to reanalyze how you’re playing.

yeah except you forget the fact that other classes can fill other roles while thieves/mesmers have only one and are already replaced in many cases by just another celery….
let’s make sure that class that can fill only one role can’t even do that…. great balancing decision

This is an RPG, there should be numerous viable playstyles and builds(bunker, bruiser, glass cannon, ranged, condition, support, etc), the problem is when one single class or two has complete monopoly over a playstyle. Example: Thief makes pretty much all glass cannons essentially unviable and a liability.

Or, bruisers completely overshadow support, pure condition specs(arguably) and bunkers.

The problem is that there will NEVER be a way to get what you want and have all players balanced 1v1. its impossible. IF you remove thief Glass cannon, then you remove the thiefs identity as an assassin, and he becomes so much less. Then theif zerker just gets replaced by all the other zerkers that were unviable before etc etc, and the process repeats itself.

This game isn’t and won’t ever be balanced around 1v1. That is never the intent of the devs, why do you seem to think it is?

Phantaram mentioned that, while playing the demo, 90% of the teleport spots no longer work. Not only will this hurt thief mobility, but thief escape mechanics as well. If this is true, I believe that this will be the tipping point for thief in the meta. The risk will no longer be worth the reward.

Great change if true! This will let other zerker builds become much more viable.

We need power main stat, a bit of crit damage, a bit of crit, a bit of toughness, and a bit of VIT as well. The amulet system currently makes there be less viable builds and really holds the game back.

How come we don’t have an amulet that’s power main stat, a bit of crit, a bit of crit damage, a bit of toughness and a bit of VIT? Celestial or bunker shouldn’t be the only viable “tanky” or “point holder” options. This game needs more bruiser options, currently there’s only really 3 classes that can play bruiser.

I feel that bringing true support/bunkers are under-tuned and currently only serve to counter enemy teams stacking berserkers, while generally being utterly under tuned against any balanced comp or otherwise.

This is why I think there should be an amulet like I mentioned above, for more bruiser options.

As for celestial amulet, it isn’t a problem, ele/eng are. Celestial is something this game desperately needed, and now we need another amulet for more bruiser builds on other classes. This is an RPG, we need numerous types of builds and play styles, anyone who wants “zerker only” isn’t an RPG player.

the whole point of this discussion is that the matchmaker needs a revamp when it comes to prof distribution. one side should never have 2 guards while the other has zero. one side should never have 3 rangers while the other has none. and so on. this needs to be a major RULE the matchmaker follows. then, amulets. cant have 3 cele amulets on one side, none on the other.

This is bad feedback please don’t give it to the devs

Simplistic is better for the game because it brings in more people queueing for SPVP and allows people who enjoy SPVP the most able to finish their daily there and not feel forced to do things they don’t want to.

And I’m sure WvW’rs feel the same about PVE/ PVP players going into wvw for a very quick and easy daily. Especially if you’re on a gold, silver or bronze server.

PvE’rs are probably tired of wvwr’s/ and pvp’rs asking kittened questions about boss timers every 2-3 minutes for a daily.

WvW wise, it doesn’t help your server to have pvp’rs/ pve’rs running with out the proper setup to steal a ruin or tower.

PVE wise, im sure no one wants snobby wvw’rs and pvp’rs eating up a slot on their map that they would rather have their friend or guildy be able to join them.

WVW isn’t comparable to spvp at all because it isn’t a 5vs5 match, and anything you do benefits your server in some way.

Also, no one wants capture because as stated like 5 times, it encourages bad behavior.

Kill X players(don’t need to stomp, just tag the person)

Complete part of a reward track

Gain rank points(don’t you gain these just for winning or something?)

Win X matches

Play X matches

That’s it, bland, easy and obtained by simply SPVPing with no negative gameplay behavior encouraged at all. You want to finish dailies in SPVP? You queue up and try to win the game.

So you want gates and I to submit a report stating that the players want very dull and boring daily’s? That’s going to go over well…. Why not just delete pvp dailys all together since you can make an argument that any of the pvp dailys is ruining someones pvp experience?

PvP Capture, oh no everyone on red is at home instead of capturing other points.

Daily PvP Player kills, oh no everyone is spawn camping instead of capturing points.

That’s exactly accurate, the spvp community would be happier without PVErs in our matches who are just there for an easy/quick daily or people doing things just to complete dailies which don’t actively help their team win. There’s games where 3 people will cap home just for their daily, like you mentioned.

Not really that the traitlines suck, more than the entire class is balanced around having HORRIBLE base hp and survivability and relies on traits/utilities, so you’ll pretty much always be 30 water/arcane and 2-3 cantrips for the rest of your life. Why did anet think this was a good idea?

What about the other daily?

I was thinking something like:
Play 1 game of Death Match
or
Play 1 game of Stronghold

No, those ideas are not good because the map you get is purely RNG based and what if someone dislikes those maps? Now I’ll be getting them ALL DAY because the daily is a map I dislike.

Stop being creative and just make the PVP dailies as generic and boring as possible.

Win 1 game, play 3 matches, kill(assist or whatever counts) an enemy, gain rank points, complete 1 reward of a reward track. None of those dailies actively encourage you to do things that cause your team to have a lower chance of winning.

Whenever I do WVW I accidently finish 3 of my dailies within like 20 minutes of playing just doing WVW, I never go out of my way to do anything special. This is exactly how sPVP dailies should be.

I think it’s a mutual agreement with everyone that this daily has to go.

Question that still remains, is what should replace these?

With the class daily’s gone, you have two holes in the daily rotation.

Just tossing a couple out there to think about:
1) Daily Medic (Revive 3 people in pvp)
2) Daily Specialist (Obtain points via special means [killing svanir/ sky hammer/ scoring an orb/ using the trebuchet])

Reviving people in PVP is really hard most of the time and certain classes are really bad at reviving.

The second one would also encourage people to do things that don’t help you win, like doing svanir at start of forest.

Just add “Do 3 PVP matches” and “Win a match”

Even the developers have suggested in multiple posts that the daily achievement is terrible and distorts matchmaking in a way that actively makes the game less fun. My guess is the achievement never went through the actual PvP team.

It needs to go.

If this is true why don’t they just disable them entirely? I don’t understand, it ruins the game so much for players that it shouldn’t be something we need to wait for an expansion to fix.

If so, how does it run with a large group of people such as during teq? Is there still a big drop in fps?

Processor means nothing, I’m on an nvidia 970 and i5-4690k, I get 60+ FPS in 100 man WVW zergs, teq zergs, wurm zergs, etc. I’m maxed settings and just turn culling to lowest, I also get 60+ fps while streaming with shadowplay during those huge fights.

Few questions about this:

  1. How often do you swap from your main class to the class daily to get the AP?
  2. Do you enjoy the encouragement to try another class?
  3. If you were to change this daily, what would you want it to be changed to instead?

Never.
No.
There shouldn’t be any SPVP dailies except “Kill X players” and “win X games as any class”, basically things you do by just playing the game. The ones where you need to capture a base are awful too, 2-3 people capping home at the start of the game is lol. The profession win ones are by far the worst designed ones, though.

Getting against teams with the same class x2-3 and being with the same class x2-3 isn’t very fun and greatly reduces either teams chance of winning. It’s a bad daily.

Thief is still the best group pvp class in the game, it’s just also the worst 1v1 class in the game unless someone doesn’t know how to run from a p/d thief(hold w).

All thief traps(shadow trap is ok for speeding up some sections of dungeons but doesn’t really matter in the long run, ambush is ok for killing harder mobs solo)

yeah, maybe you are right, but thats actually a problem.
So one should look maybe and try to see why in other games, people feel less comfortable treating random pug players as disposable.

Tanks and healers are important. “Oh I should be nice to this tank/healer because he might leave or if I befriend them I’ll get instant queues!”. No such thing in this game, someone is bad, kick them, get someone else within 30 seconds. Takes 5 minutes to fill up a full group regardless of class/role.
I did 2 weeks of dungeons and I constantly added people and messaged them later if they wanted to run dungeons again and NO ONE ever replied. I made >>ZERO<< friends running dungeons over 2 weeks, most guilds don’t even do stuff together, so having a guild is pointless outside of wurm which takes like 20 minutes every day or few days. Only activity in GW2 that encourages grouping up together over and over, making friends and having a guild is WVW. Everything else is basically a single player RPG with NPC’s.

The game is also extremely easy so if someone isn’t doing their job properly, you kick them and 90% of the time you’ll get another player who can do their job perfectly. No challenges, no roles, just quick/easy access to content. Making a game like that completely kills the community aspect of it, as you can see.

No important classes, easy content, no challenges and EASE and quickness of replacing a team member. Even WOW raids suffer from this now, people are having problems doing guild runs now due to it’s new group finder system for raids, because you can just hop from group to group and clear content with complete strangers pretty effortlessly. No schedules, no progressing, just quick and easy access to content and gear.

Accessibility comes with a huge price to the community.

Sounds to me like two independent issues being discussed.
1. Aggregate price for silk and market velocity
2. Farming for individual mats is hard

You’ve twice asserted that there are two issues being discussed here.

Is there a reason why your list doesn’t include the issue that *it takes twice as much silk as the other Tier 5 mats to make ascended materials, even though this issue is a) clearly being discussed here and b) at the heart of the changes in the silk price?

Who knows, I’ve personally asked him twice and he completely ignored both times. Guess he thinks it’s good design that damask takes literally double the amount of “refined”(bolts) mat than every other ascended mat, and equally as good design that damask is x4 the price of every other ascended mat.

If I could farm my own silk and the price stayed the same I wouldn’t care at all, I doubt most people would. I’d still run dungeons and silverwastes, then buy the silk. The thing I care about is the fact that silk was changed from 2- > 3 scraps per bolt AND 100 bolts per damask instead of the normal 50, then never reverted back down to 50 after silk stopped being useless/worthless

There’s absolutely no reason that it should still take 100 bolts of silk to make a single damask now that silk isn’t worth 3c. It was a change to get rid of all the silk and to make silk worth something, so why should it stay now that silk is 4x the price of t5 logs/ore? Why isn’t leather 100 per elonian? Why isn’t anything being done to fix leather? Why did you only fix one t5 mat, then not reduce the amount required later since the price is insane now?

THE PRICE OF SILK/DAMASK COMPARED TO EVERY OTHER T5 MAT/ASCENDED ITEM IS THE PROBLEM. A problem created by the devs themselves to fix another problem. Going from one extreme to another =/= good design.

I have never gotten instakicked out of a 50 fractal on my ele or guardian. Ever.

I got on my necro the other day, had to go through 5 insta kicks upon join before i got into a group that didn’t.

Hell, they didn’t even specify preferred classes, otherwise I would have switched or not joined. Then there’s people just hunting for excuses to remove you, like you aggroed something on arah when you didn’t, or they accuse you of fearing/cc’ing the slime when you haven’t even entered death shroud and are using a dagger so you didn’t sue staff fear.

You’ll also realize how much longer your wait times for filling a group are if you are an instance owner as a necro or ranger vs. a guard or ele or warrior.

My fractals i start on guard fill up almost instantly. I can go over 20 minutes of waiting before anyone joins my ranger/necro.

This is a problem of how easily replacable anyone is. If I kick someone, I get a new member within 30 seconds. I can just keep kicking until I get someone playing a class I want or playing how I want them to play.

It’s awful game design and somehow worse than other games automated dungeon finder systems.

People are easily disposable and no one even tries to make friends or group up with the same people again, even if they’re good. Everyone might as well be NPC’s in dungeons and I doubt ANYONE would notice a difference or care at all.

Taking minutes to down a wall isn’t what I’d consider melting. Also, if the catas are too close for mortars, one person on an arrow cart can completely shut them down.

Though, it’d make more sense if mortars weren’t so easy to kill…

From my experience superior siege are extremely tanky and arrow carts do like 1% of their HP per 10s :|. I was on an arrow cart spamming damage on a ram and after like 2 minutes the ram was still at 50%+ HP.

Just had a 500 to 422 score game in a 4vs5 where I was vs an axe/axe warrior and death blossom thief. “Oh you must be bad enough to be matched against these people!”, I was 2vs1ing the enemy team all game long.

I was also a full solo queue vs a 2 man team.

edit: Next game 100 to 500 score, almost 3 capped the enemy most of the game.

Collections are a great idea implemented in a very bad way.. They are the LEAST rewarding thing in the game bar none and some cost 500+ gold for essentially nothing in return.

It’s like if they added new legendaries and forgot to add new models for them so you’d grind 2k gold and gain nothing.

This is great! For a casual player. Gone are the days when I had to lament over getting nothing but two greens and a blue. Now, I can freely enjoy casual activities such as jumping puzzles, world bosses, and random events, and rejoice when I receive fine and masterwork gear as loot. After all, a third of the time the equipment will salvage into silk, which was worthless before. But now, the silk I get from casually playing actually has value, allowing me to sell it and slowly get any exotic gear I want, a high end grade of gear that allows me to experience everything the game has to offer, from open world exploration to WvW to dungeons, without much of a hitch. I’m so glad that silk prices are going up, because now the loot in the game just feels so much more rewarding.

Come back when you’re trying to gear up in ascended light armor(or any), would love to hear what you have to say.
