Thief is currently the best class in the game. Is it overpowered? No. Is it easy to play? Not at all. Is it currently capable of solo winning games and team fights if you’re good at it? Yeah(assuming your team is moderately competent – aka almost never in ranked matchmaking).

The class is incredibly strong and back to it’s vanilla glory days again. It also can beat most classes 1v1, when it couldn’t do that during vanilla celestial meta.

Thief is very very powerful and I’m not sure why people are slow at realizing this. Maybe because thief is the only class remaining that takes skill to be good and useful at.

It’s not a very good system since you’re encouraged to just completely abandon the game if you DC for 2 minutes. Coming back is the right thing to do, but you’re not rewarded for doing do. Not a very well designed system.

As most people know, the demand and acquisition of this item was drastically changed.

Currently, it takes 4 thick leather to make a single cured, and 50 cured to make a single elonian. That means you’re spending ~6.5g per day just to do your daily leather cooldown. This is much more(triple? quadruple?) the cost of doing your time gated ingot or cloth.

Could something be done to reduce the market value of this item please? Many changes were made to t5/t6 leather recently, and they have impacted the market greatly. At the very least, can it only take 3 thick per cured instead of 4? This would be a quick fix for this items cost to be more reasonable, and within the cost of other t5 materials of this type(wood, ore, cloth).

Elite specs really killed build diversity. Vanilla had so many viable builds per class.

Trying to get pve players into pvp is never going to be a good idea. It always makes the pvp have a worse community and ruins it. Stop doing it. Let people who want to be there to pvp be there and let that be the end of it.

Matchmaking is a mess. I don’t know how to fix it but it’s the sole reason I lost all interest in pvp entirely. Please fix it ASAP.

It’s not humanly possible to create a matchmaking system that can figure out how skilled you really are at the game as a single player.

They need to make ranked premade vs premade only, that is the only way a matchmaking system can actually work. If it’s seeing how good you are as a 5 man team, it’s much easier to find another equally skilled 5 man team.

The game is so fantastic and fun to play. The combat, the balance(Sure it could be better), the classes, how fighting people works, etc. It all feels good and is very enjoyable play.

Then you try to play, but you can’t actually PvP because matchmaking is so awful at creating good games that you can go hours without actually being able to enjoy yourself. It’s not very fun to be in 1 sided games over and over.

Ugh, it’s so depressing knowing that a game with such fantastic classes/combat(and generally pretty good balance imo) is just..not fun to play because of matchmaking.

Really depressing.

I really hope matchmaking is fixed, but I feel like it won’t be fixed until s4 at the earliest

I just don’t think $15 for 3 bag slots or nearly $10 for a single bank slot is reasonable.

I spent $50 on the cash shop last month. I am a supporter of buying things for real money and help anet fund the game.

bank expansion is essential for gathering and storage of materials needed for crafting. One bank slot and 250 material storage is hardly enough for materials needed to level in crafting

And yet, when the game launched EVERY SINGLE PLAYER managed.
And I bet the majority are still managing.

If you feel something is really that essential and given there’s no monthly sub you should buy it with rl cash. It’s also still possible to use in-game gold. If you’re playing enough to be gathering and crafting enough to need expanders, you should be earning enough to pay for it with in-game gold. Can’t really have it both ways.

When the game launched there wasn’t 4 keys to keep in your inventory for HoT zones, SW shovels, and 2 more keys for drytops + silver wastes.(or bank)

When the game launched, champions didn’t drop loot bags, events didn’t give loot bags, your inventory wasn’t constantly filled with 50 different loot bags.

When the game launched. there wasn’t 30 different armor/weapon/jewelry books filling up your inventory(and bank).

When the game launched, there wasn’t 50 different coat/armor/glove/hat/etc boxes filling up your inventory(and bank).

When the game first launched, there wasn’t golden fractal relics, agony infusions, ascended t7 mats, experience scrolls, wits of experience, or many of the inventory -1 raid legendary unstorable items clogging up your invenryo(or bank).

When the game first launched, there wasn’t chak eggs, gifts of every HoT zone(fleet and stuff) just from finishing the zone clogging up your inventory.

When the game first launched, there wasn’t shimmering crystals, perfect mist cores, etc clogging up your inventory(and bank).

When the game first launched, there wasn’t ascended items that require 1k+ of materials for a full set of gear, and 250 storage was fine for crafting anything not a legendary.

When the game first launched, you weren’t given living story 2 rewards for mawdrey that take up like 6 inventory slots and can’t be stored anywhere but a bank/inventory.

Times have changed, the game has changed. The game now shoves so many items at you that playing without full 20 slots(100 total slots) or full bag slots unlocked is not bearable. Doing a single AB meta fills your inventory insanely fast, where you sometimes end up spending more time managing your inventory/visiting a mechant than actually playing the game. Doing any content does. This wasn’t the case before. There isn’t enough default bank space for all the stuff the game throws at you that you cannot store.

Honestly, I think the price of gems is way to high, but I understand that’s what ANet wants so you buy gems with RL money.

I would be willing to accept that IF buying gems with RL money was somewhat fair. But come on, look at the prices:

- Bank tab – 7,5€
- Bag slot – 5€
- Shared inventory slot – 8,75€
- Storage expander (+250mats) – 10€
- Home Instance nodes – 10€
- Character slot – 10€
- Endless gathering tools – 12,5€

Am I the only one who thinks everything in the gem store is way too expensive in RL money? For example, someone who plays the game daily would want 2 character slots (let’s assume he got 2 from HoT +5 from vanilla), 2 bank tabs, 3 bag slots for one of his chars and 1 storage expander. That’s 60€ for some basic account upgrades, not even talking of maxing the whole account or cosmetic stuff.

If you wanted to max your account (3x char slots, 13x bank tabs, 10x shared inventory slots -buying at x5 sale-, 7x storage expanders, 3x bag slot expansions on 9 chars, and I won’t even include the instance nodes and the gathering tools), it would cost you 367,5€. And then add cosmetics, gathering tools…

I’m sure they have their own research on this, but I find hard to believe that they are maxing their Profit using these prices. It’s just not consistent with their target player (casual, comes and goes frequently…). Hardcore players could be willing to play that, since the game represents a huge amount of their play time, but that’s not the majority of GW2 community.

I think that if they lowered these drastically many more people would be buying stuff with RL money, especially with the actual gold-gem exchange rate. Cause let’s face it, gold-gem exchange won’t go down by 50% to previous levels, that’s what ANet wants. But rn I think many people are not buying neither through gold nor through RL money.

This is how I feel as well. The things that are actually pretty much required if you play the game a lot and want to enjoy all things about it(bank slots, bag slots, storage expander, char slots) are unreasonably priced, while costumes and glider skins and all cosmetic things are mega cheap and reasonably priced.

That’s the complete opposite of how it should be. I used to be able to buy all those overpriced things with gold, but with the current rate of gold – > gems I have no interest to. We need constant sales on those essentially mandatory items.

What would make me play more is actually having enjoyable matches. Stomp or be stomped isn’t fun. Even when I’m winning I don’t have fun in spvp anymore because I could actually afk the entire match and win because the game is putting me into unlosable games.

I have 90%+ win rate in starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3(back when I was 12 years old) 1v1, yet I can go on 10+ loss streaks in GW2. Team based games are generally like this, but I think GW2 has the worst of any team based competitive game matchmaking I’ve played.

Plus if you are really only spending time playing this anyways then your not spending half as much money buying single player games, I barely have time to any single player games anyways since there is allot for me to do in this game right now.

A single bank slot costs more than a super awesome looking cool unique skin glider(lightning electro one). The gem prices on bank/bag slots need re-examined imo.

All the skins and costumes are reasonably priced, but the bank/bag slots are not.

Agreed. I have the gold to afford things with gold – > gems, but I straight up refuse to convert my gold to gems because it too much gold for anything now.

Bag slots and bank slots need to go on sale if gem prices are not going to be adjusted – nearly $10 for a single bank and $5 for a bag slot is far too high for something that’s mandatory at this point with how many different items fill your bags and how many items you can’t store in storage they keep adding, plus all the keys and no key chain in sight.

Season3 seems to have introduced this phenomenon where non-high tier players are chosen at random (means unknown to me,) and they experience huge win streaks, crushing victories, and generally no opposition while they roll an entire division in a sitting.

In my personal experience, highly skilled veteran players seem to generally always be stacked and face very little opposition, but now, I’m noticing even players that have known past struggles in the Leagues get on massive streaks of facing enemies that provide little resistance.

Every player who had struggled in the past and suddenly is on a huge tear, “I love S3!” For the rest of average and what I can only imagine as bottom half of the playerbase, “Whelp, this game has taken a huge crap on me.”

Nobody likes this matchmaker except the people who are suddenly winning a 75% of their matches and feel like they’re being rewarded for getting good’.

The above-average to the highly-skilled veterans are falling asleep in queues, and in many matches – crushing their opponents was more fun when they had to sweat for it.

For every player on a huge win streak, there are an equal amount of lose streaks.

Seriously, bring back evenly matched team MMR aka S1. There were improvements that could have been made to it, which I could detail, but the changes made since S1 are horrendous for the casual and veteran experience.

Great post, too bad we’re stuck with this matchmaking for an entire season.

There’s absolutely nothing that Anet can do to remove whining.

Funny thing, on the Overwatch forums at launch, you could see the exact same threads as on this forum: nerf x, matchmaking is kitten, let us have soloQ, I’m on a x losing streak, class stacking etc. Most of the PvP process is done better there: from balance to matchmaking, not including extra features like avoiding or preferring players and the option to play with the same players after a match is over.

But people still complain. You can’t win.

The only good part is that you can weed out the obvious liars and bad players from the complaints – all your individual statistics are public as shown here.(I know I’m a scrub)

If we’d have something like this for ranked, added with some match statistics, you’d know how many of those complaints are valid or coming from experienced players.

TL;DR: People will complain no matter what, with some player and internal statistics at least we’d know who to ignore.

That’s because team based PvP should be premade only in ranked. It’s not fun to play 100% teamwork team based PvP with randoms – and it shouldn’t be the devs intent to allow this. But devs keep allowing it..maybe in a decade or two devs will realize it’s not a good idea.

I dont play any more or less games since the backpack was released, you shouldn´t expect everyone to dislike pvp. I even changed the skin of my backpack since i found it to look ugly after some hours playing with it. Obviously its only the pve´ers who´s “goal” is the backpack, the core of the pvp players simply play for fun. These are btw the usually winning guys that don´t cry about mm or pips and other useless stuff. :P

I enjoy PvP but the matchmaking makes it so that every match is frustrating and not enjoyable to play.

PvP was better pre-HoT before leagues.

I stopped playing because I’d consistently get with the same players(who didn’t contribute or pull their weight) over multiple games in a row. Wasn’t a fun experience.

It’s probably worse now with more people losing interest due to the matchmaking.

I have a thread in bug report about it(but you cant bump threads). It’s a game losing and breaking issue when you can’t control your character in PvP and it can happen dozens of times in a single 15 minute PvP match.

If you win the game your team should be able to vote whether or not you get an abandon/dishonor imo. It shouldn’t be an automated system – sometimes your team just won’t care because they saw you played well the entire time you WERE in the match and most people generally understand that DC’s are uncontrollable. You can also DC at the very end and get an abandon too can’t you? Which means your team would be like “Huh, he/she was here all along and healed me, downed this person, ressed me, etc, I want them to be rewarded too!”.

The rules for dishonor are completely absurd. My internet cut out and hicupped resulting in a 2-3 minute DC, I come back, help win the game, and lose a pip, my win streak, and get 10 minute deserter.

I had the highest score on my team, I told my team sorry I dced internet went out and they said “np stuff happens let’s just try to win, hope you don’t get an abandon”, and we ended up winning. My team had no problem with my DC because they understood sometimes internet will be stupid.

You should never lose a pip if you were in the match for 85% of the game, had the highest score, AND won the game. When a game is over, your team should be able to vote whether or not you should get a dishonor or not, just an auto-mated system. It’s absurd.

I’m not sure. The system killed all my interest in PvP as the only way I’ll get to face good opponents or equally skilled opponents(I’d rather fight people much better than me so I can learn) I have to grind hundreds of games and pray to RNG for good teammates.

That isn’t very fun and I don’t really improve fighting and playing with people worse than me constantly. So I stopped PvPing.

It was supposed to be a system to make it easier to play with equal level teammates and opponents, but it completely failed because of division based queues.

Blocks, blinds, dodges, and invulns are equally effective at mitigating condition applications.

No they aren’t, there’s tons of unblockable AOE conditions and even runes that completely ignore dodge, blocks, and blinds.

Conditions are the easiest to apply damage in the game.

It takes the same amount of button presses to condi-bomb someone as it does to burst them in this game. Don’t fool yourself into believing that power builds require any more skill than condition builds. There is very little skill to either.

Power builds require timing, prediction, and proper CD usage. Condis can just piano their keyboard until the win because most are AOE, ranged, unblockable, etc. Krait runes 6 piece for example cannot be blinded, dodged, blocked, or avoided at all

There’s occasionally instantly 4 people switching professions to have a balanced comp, when I play on certain divisions, on EU servers especially.

Players have all the tools to play with competitive comps, the only thing standing in the way of that is not caring enough. I think as a playerbase we need to move more towards a culture of class switching.

Look how Overwatch does it.

Overwatch is like 4 buttons per class and no specs or amulet or sigils or runes or anything like that.

Overwatch gives you all characters, this game requires you to spend like $50 to unlock enough slots for every class.
While I do agree people need to learn to swap class, these two games are not comparable.

I think class stacking does need to be addressed, as the OP has said, but I have no idea how to fix it. I think making ranked 5 man queue only would be the best fix tbh.

Huh that’s funny, I didn’t lose a single game til upper Ruby and am at Legendary after 85 games. I’m sure its the matchmaker tho!

I watched a legendary player play on another account and get from amber to ruby in like 20 games.

He was really confused and said “Wow, I had really good matchmaking”.

It’s not. Trust me. I play both thief and ele, games are MASSIVELY easier to win when I solo queue on thief.

Having a 2nd ele is also generally instant loss.

The class is incredibly strong and good, but only with GOOD teammates. It’s only as good as it’s teammates. It’s overpowered with good teammates, useless without them.

Anet really need to balance the cost to make each of the armor stats. Maybe have it so you can just buy the insignia of any stat off a vender like soldier stats. The price to make some of the newer stat’s is stupid. Why should players be penalized for wanting to try a different play style, Using the same one over and over gets boring fast for some people.

I agree, this has been a problem for a while.

While viper is a TON cheaper than release, it’s still not comparable to walking up to a karma vendor and buying my full set of gear(zerker).

Zero reason for there to be any variance in difficulty of obtaining gear of the same tier regardless of stats. It’s just not good for the players.

A lot, actually. Much more than a support that can’t do ANYTHING by itself besides stay alive. Zero offensive pressure.

I swap to my thief when I’m solo queueing because it helps win games, I think thief is the best solo queue class for “carrying”.

In reality though nothing you pick is going to matter because it’s 5v5 and all that matters is your teammates. Ele is still by far the worst possible pick for trying to “carry” games with bad teammates, though. It’s very frustrating and not fun.

“Nothing new and only QoL updates/revamps to old existing content” has been a problem since release and I don’t know why A.net won’t change.

People get bored of doing the same content over and over, no matter how many times you update it to be “better”, it’s still the same content they’ve done a million times.

Please spend more dev time on NEW content and less on OLD content.

It’s the only class that whole game revolves around atm.

Enemy/your team has ele = ele team wins 95% of time, even in legend tier.

No other class skews match balance so much, rotations dont matter cos ele will just sit in mid whole game and give his team free points by doing this, not even mentioning that conquest is not the only mode we have. In stronghold ele team vs no ele team is 100% victory to ele team.

No class should be so kitten important that it’s nearly impossible to win without it, it just clearly shows how imbalanced eles are at the moment.

And honestly stop protecting eles imbalanced nature, everyone and their mother who plays pvp knows that they are an imbalanced class.

This isn’t how it works at all. You need 4 competent teammates for the ele to matter.

Ele doesn’t help you win, it just helps you lose slower.

50/50 is a good thing

Jesus christ when will you people realize that PIPS are literally meaningless. Your MMR is the basis of your queue, and it finds people within your pip range that are also within that MMR.

It then stacks one team by design, making it so that the WORST player on the best team is equal MMR to the BEST player on the other team, and then making EVERYONE else on the higher team better than that.

Then it basically just gives you a 50/50 chance per game to get the good team. Literally zero part of that is competitive. None whatsoever.

Combine that with the ridiculously poorly designed PvP in this game and you have this absolute abortion.

I’m on a 12 game losing streak where I have literally 1v4’d multiple occasions and still lost. I’ve held points 1v3 for minutes at a time while my team manages to lose BOTH off-points 4v2.

Literally NOTHING about this game is competitive. NOTHING. Nothing in sPvP right now for the average, non pro-league player is even remotely enjoyable. Winning and losing is dependent entirely on whether or not the teammates that you have know how to defend points, rotate, or do damage. Hint: the VAST majority don’t.

I was at a 60% win loss ratio before this streak of games. Before I went twelve straight games (so far) of getting teammates so incompetent that they literally argued that sitting on a point and defending it was a bad idea.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about the PvP in this game anymore. The current matchmaking system doesn’t take skill into account almost whatsoever after a certain point. If you’re not winning 85% of your games or more, you’re just randomly given the worst teammates in the world. If you didn’t make it to Diamond within the first week, you’re stuck in this kittening nightmare that Ruby has become because the vast majority of players in it absolutely do not deserve to be there, since the vast majority of them still don’t grasp absolute basic game mechanics.

This is the system that Anet designed. This is the system that after two seasons, they thought was best.

I have no faith that any of the developers will ever do anything to improve upon the current system in place, despite OVERWHELMING negative feedback. Anet has once again shown me that they don’t have any intention of making an enjoyable experience for the player a priority.

I consistently 1vs2 and 2vs3 the enemy team on both of my characters(downing them on my thief and stomping them, holding the node for over 2 minutes on my clerics ele) and then end up losing those games. That isn’t right, if I’m capable of doing this against the enemy team it means I shoudn’t be in that match and I’m better than them – > thus I should be gaining pips NOT losing them, so that I’m capable of fighting equally skilled opponents.

Make ranked full premade queue only. It’s the only way for sPvP to be enjoyable.

Any competent DPS can kill a clerics tempest in less than 10 seconds.
Is the healing overpowered? Yes.
Should healing be this strong in PvP? No.
Should the class be nerfed? Yes, if other things are nerfed(eng/ranger tankyness, aoe cc, aoe condition bombs, condi warriors bloated mace burst skill just to name a few).

Make a bug report post on the forums AND in game with information on the bug(taunt + diamond skin cleansing it = unable to move).

I just don’t like how winning/losing is all that matters for getting rewards or progressing.

I could try my heart out, play the game of my life, consistently kill the enemy team 2vs1 and 2vs3 all game long, but because my teammates are MUCH worse than the enemy team, I lose a pip, get a loss, and gain nothing. Meanwhile the enemy that I was destroying by myself gets rewards, and a pip.

That isn’t ok. You cannot solo win games no matter how hard you try and how well you play sometimes, because it’s a TEAM based game. As long as you did REALLY well yourself, high score, close game, whatever, you should be rewarded.

PvP right now is not rewarding because it suffers from the same problem every other team base game has – your only way of progressing is WINNING, but winning is not something a SINGLE person can do in a TEAM based game.

I didn’t play season1, but it seemed like a great idea that you’d win a pip if a game was close(?). Much better than this current system.

I just want to feel rewarded for playing well and doing well in the game, and not soley based on if I win or lose, when winning a game is not something someone can single-handedly do themselves all the time.

I forgot to add onto this:

I can be stuck in a league I don’t belong in unless I grind forever just because of how the pip system works. Any player could, honetsly. They won’t get enemies equal to them in skill or teammates equal to them in skill until they get lucky or grind out hundreds of games to finally gain pips so they can be placed in a proper bracket.

That isn’t good design.

It happens over a dozen times per game on my tempest when I’m vs warriors and ranger pets using taunt.

It’s REALLY REALLY annoying, I’ve reported the bug on forums and in game multiple times.

It’s game breaking and actually loses you matches, you can also exploit it against your enemy by making them stuck over and over
