Make two of them and use it on both!
Or during a dungeon run, I was trying to pass out food buffs to my guildies. I was mailing each of them, but when I went to mail food to the third person: “Message suppressed due to excessive messaging”. So, only 3 of us got food buffs. I think I much preferred the WoW suppression system where being auto-suppressed seemed to require that a certain number of players had to manually report you first.
Add another tally to “Scavenger’s Chasm” as a favorite. I loved that one. The exploration, the sheer size of it. It’s almost more like a jumping MAZE. There were several times where I could see a charge I hadn’t gotten yet but took me forever to figure out how to get to it.
So far, jumping puzzles have been by far my favorite part of this game. I would keep playing this game if only for them alone. To all the people who complain about them and ask them to be removed, I would counter with the opposite, make MORE, put them EVERYWHERE. (yes, that’s an unreasonable request, but I do hope you guys keep making more)
I would continue playing this game for the jumping puzzles alone. It might diminish the amount I play a bit, but I wouldn’t cease playing.
I plan on The Dreamer being the first legendary I aim for. It will make a nice replacement for my slingshot.
They weren’t rewarding before..
This is everything that is wrong with attitudes in MMO’s these days. The guy he was replying to was talking about rewarding in an accomplishment sense. But all people can think about is PHAT LOOTZ. Heaven forbid anyone played a game because the gameplay itself was fun. So far my favorite part of this game has been the jumping puzzles, and chests give kitten for loot but I don’t give a kitten.
So game is built on GW1 engine.
Do you even know what “engine” means?
From wikipedia:
“The core functionality typically provided by a game engine includes a rendering engine (“renderer”) for 2D or 3D graphics, a physics engine or collision detection (and collision response), sound, scripting, animation, artificial intelligence, networking, streaming, memory management, threading, localization support, and a scene graph.”
The engine has almost nothing to do with what skills they put in the game or how the UI is layed out or how many skills they give you access to.
The way skills work in GW2 as opposed to GW1 is entirely a design choice. As many people in this thread have already stated, and (although I don’t have a link or direct quote on hand) as even ANet themselves have stated, while GW1 had a monstrous number of POSSIBLE builds, it had a very low number of VIABLE builds. In GW1, if you weren’t using one of handful of builds, you were seriously gimping yourself.
ANet’s goal with GW2 was to make sure that there were a wide variety of builds that were viable. You can argue all you want about whether this is true or not. And, I would guess that ANet would admit that there are not as many viable builds as they were hoping for. But, I think there are more viable builds than there was in GW1 and I’m sure ANet is actively working on the problem of making more builds viable.
Furthermore, while ANet has not confirmed this for us, I find it highly likely that they will come out with more traits, weapons, and utility skills for the current professions as time goes one. I would expect that these sorts of changes would come in an expansion and the game is less than 6 months old.
They can just ask the court to shut that site down like they did with megaupload right?
Megaupload was shut down with the cooperation of the government of the country in which it was based: New Zealand.
I suspect that most gold selling sites are based in China. There’s no way in kitten that China would be so compliant.
Really, if they wanted to curtail gold selling, they could just remove the in game mail system making the only way to trade via the TP.

Congratulations, before you can use them Anet will have nerf’d it and you will now have 249 worthless items.
Doubtful. Really, what this item does is no more powerful than combining the warrior Sword#2 attack or the engineer rifle jump with the mesmer portal. It’s just that as a thief, I do not have access to any similar abilities.
Also, there are many places in the game where you can get outside the normal area that do not require the teleportation gun. If anything gets fixed (which I’m sure this is a low priority since you already cannot use this gun in WvW) it will be in patching in invisible walls into places to make it impossible to get to these places with or without the gun.

When you go to level up your cooking skill and start salivating at the thought of that garlic bread you’re about to craft and realize you haven’t eaten anything in the past 8 hours.
I think all of these “this class is OP” and “that class is OP” can be replaced with “I went into WvW wearing blues and greens and magic find and got stomped by someone wearing full exotics with a coherent build.”
Exotics OP, yo. Better nerf ’em.
I would just like to clear something up for some people. It seems like in every other thread you see people complaining “I thought there wasn’t supposed to be grinding in this game” or “UHG, I can’t believe I HAVE to grind for this”.
Firstly, ANet never said there would be no grinding, they said that you would not have to grind. That is, in order to get a set of gear that would allow you to complete any content in the game, you would not be required to grind.
This is true. Getting a set of full exotics for your armor is easy and not very time consuming. If you were to run every exploreable dungeon path all of TWICE, you would have more than enough tokens to get a full set of exotic gear. This is not to mention the exotics that can be obtained from spare karma you might have or the exotics you could but for fairly cheap off of the TP is you were frugal with your money.
Second, legendaries and other such things that people complain about grinding for are COSMETIC. You do not need them to be able to play the game and you are not entitled you have them. As such you do not have to have them and so any grinding that you do to obtain them is your choice. You could just be playing the game for fun, but instead you are CHOOSING to grind for a cosmetic item. ANet has said that they expected legendaries to take a lot of time to obtain. It is well within their expectations that the could take well over a year to complete and that some players will NEVER complete one. You can argue all you want about whether this makes them “legendary” or not, but it doesn’t mean you are “forced to grind”.
Thirdly, some people actually WANT to grind. I suspect this largely why ANet added fractals. They wanted to give people who want vertical progression somewhere they can vertically progress. But because you will be able to obtain ascended gear elsewhere, you are under no obligation to grind fractals if you do not enjoy them.
The warrior archetype has long been one of the most commonly played classes in many video games and table top games stretching back to the early days of DnD.
Yeah, I disagree. It is not a flaw in the system, it is a problem with the policy of the guild leaders for the guilds you are in. I am the leader of a relatively small guild. I do not kick people who don’t represent. However, if I see some one who hasn’t represented at all in a long time, I demote them to a rank that does not include bank access privileges.
Thing with level scaling is you never feel how powerful you really are. There should be a bit of “realism” to your character. Think about….if your character were real would he all of a sudden lose power just because he traveled to a particular area? No. Scaling mostly sucks because it is a barrier, especially to those who solo. I agree pk bot ..there should be an optional feature to turn it on and off. Some classes like the elementalist are darn near impossible to play in some areas as a solo character and especially you personal story. I predict they will correct this in the future. Right now I am stuck in my personal story and cannot advance. This is a MAJOR problem.
Yes, let’s add in some realism into the game: You no longer gain levels, nearly every mob can 1 or 2 shot you if you let them hit you, and if you die, you must re-roll a new character because your old one is dead. </sarcasm>
That aside, if you are appropriately leveled for the personal story you are attempting and it is too hard, this is clearly a “learn to play” issue as most people are able to easily solo personal story missions and a fair amount of people are capable of soloing most champions in the game (albeit very slowly). There is no shame in admitting you are not the best player so long as you can admit this and aim to improve. I would recommend going to the forum for your main profession, describing your normal approaches to your build, weapon choice, and combat tactics and ask for help in how you can improve.
I agree; make all mobs lvl 1, reduce all characters to lvl 1, and disable experience gains.
Shufflepants,
You have a history on the forums
Once you have someone’s ID you can whisper them or add them to your contact list.
- Some people troll (or friendly rib) the enemy. <— I do not endorse this behavior.
- Some communicate to resolve “issues” of diplomacy or inappropriate behavior.
- Some people have honest-to-goodness, real life friends on other servers.
Whispers between servers is common. I’m surprised this is a surprise to people.
I doubt this has anything to do with the forums. The whole point of my confusion is how the person obtained my ID during a WvW match in the first place when every one is just a nameless invader. After reading some of these posts and doing a little experimenting, it seems the way people are doing it is by targeting you typing “/join” without adding a name which automatically initiates a party invite request which then shows the name of the person on the other team and from there they can whisper.
I did get a brief party invite request. So they disabled the report feature so that you couldn’t get people’s names, but they didn’t disable the ability to invite people on the opposing team to a party??
I highly doubt I’m well known. I don’t play WvW all that much and this is the first time I’ve played against the server we are up against right now, and it changed since last I played WvW.
All I could find on this subject was from a month ago when they supposedly disabled the reporting feature to prevent people from getting people’s name to message them.
But just tonight I got a message from some one in WvW telling me how bad I was after I killed some one.
How is this possible?
51 princess tonics
Took me about 20 minutes to do it the first time. Now I make it successfully to the end about 75% of the time.
And why some people think guilds and the social aspect are ‘failing’:
I think it comes down to a very simple psychological thing:
A lack of login notifications. In other MMO’s, when some one in your guild logs on, you get a chat message that ‘so-and-so’ has come online.
Say for instance you were playing GW2 and none of your friends are online. You might be content with whatever you were doing, but as it stands, if one of your friends logs on and they don’t specifically check their guild roster or friends list and see that you’re online and let you know, you two might play for hours and end up logging off without ever even knowing that they were online.

ANet, here is how you fix this. I’m sure it has been suggested by several other posters here in this massive thread.
Make Ascended gear have the same stat allocation as Exotics but give them an infusion slot.
Make the upgrades in the infusion slot only provide benefit within the new fractal dungeon.
Give players a way to “ascend” their existing exotic gear to turn a piece of exotic gear into a piece of ascended gear that has an infusion slot using a consumable item that preserves the look of the gear and is obtainable by spending karma, honor badges, or gold via crafting.
In this way you make everyone happy.
The people who want a gear grind can grind in the new fractal dungeon to obtain better and better infusion slot upgrades.
The people who bought this game based on your promise that it would not have a gear treadmill can continue to enjoy the game sans treadmill as the rest of the game would remain unaffected by the infusion slot upgrades.
In all likelihood I will probably continue to play GW2 even if the ascended gear changes go though with ascended gear having better than exotic stats. However, if they do go though, and are not reverted, I will have to seriously reconsider future gem purchases. Because of your, up until now, conviction of sticking to your manifesto and quality of content, I have been more than willing to have purchased all of the bank slot upgrades, all of the bag slot upgrades for 1 of my characters, and the Mad King costume from the gem store. I was planning that I would eventually unlock the bag slots for my alts, and buy 2 more character slots as I began to play more of my alts, but if you renege on your manifesto promise of no gear treadmill and obsolete exotic gear a mere 3 months into the game after telling us exotic gear would be max stats forever, I, and I’m sure many others, am going to feel abandoned and cease my generous support.
I also understand that perhaps not all of this was your decision. Perhaps this is a result of pressure from NCSoft. I could probably make some intuitive and anecdotal arguments saying how alienating one’s core and most supportive user base is a terrible move for the long term well being of your game and revenue stream, and how you will never beat games like WoW at their own game of catering to those who love treadmills; how the only way your game became so popular at launch was through word of mouth of supportive fans touting the merits of your manifesto and dedication to not making the same design choices as every other MMO. But, if this is the case, I would only urge you to do more research on who is actually buying gems and supporting your game. Is is the people whining that there is nothing to do at end game and will likely leave your game anyway even with the introduction of ascended gear when they finally get full ascended and then complain that there’s nothing to do again? Or is it the people who were perfectly happy with the game as is and will leave or curtail their gem purchases? And bring the results of your research to your corporate bosses and make the best case you can.
Sullydog, I think you have a contradiction in your reasoning.
You say they should remove the indicators to disempower the zergs. Realize that this will not reduce the number of people on the map, so I can only take this to mean that you think that instead of a large army roaming around, your opinion is that the game would be better if the armies were more spread out across the map.
However, when people bring up the point that without them, people won’t know where to go, you say that to know where to go, people can just communicate with the chat channels.
Do you not realize that if people just started using the chat channels, they can just keep the giant roaming zerg just as before?
“Zerg is at Starfall!”
Even if ANet implemented the change you are talking about, 1 of 2 things would happen. People wouldn’t know where to go, or they would communicate and be able to maintain a giant zerg.
You can’t have it both ways. If people want to zerg, there is nothing you can do to stop them. And the only way that ANet could stop them is to somehow disincentivize it. But seeing as how part of the whole point of WvW is giant battles, I don’t think they’d do anything to that effect unless one giant zerg was the only effective strategy. It isn’t. With and equal number of players on each team, a single giant zerg will never work because there are potentially 2 other giant zerg roaming about, you can’t have your 1 giant zerg in 2 places at once.
Or perhaps you need to make more effort with your party to determine what weapons and traits you should collectively take and to actually make an effort to strategize before a fight since the roles are not fixed and laid out for you.
As I understand it, the changes were made in light of data from sPvP where level, gear and stats are standardized.
Currently, teleport skills that are ground targeted such as thief shortbow skill 5, mesmer Blink, the thief sword skill 2 return, and a few others will only teleport you to the edge of what you were standing on or the bottom of a wall you were targeting on top of instead of where you placed the targeting reticle. It seems that this happens whenever there does not exist a solid walking path between where you are and where you are targeting.
Further, thief dagger skill 2, while it appears to be a jump, if done off of a cliff, hugs the terrain and can’t actually be used as a jump.
But other skills such as warrior sword 2, the engineer rifle jump, a few other jumps, and even the mesmer portal can be used to get to floating platforms or (at least in the case of the mesmer portal, unlike the thief sword 2 teleport return) to teleport back up cliff with no pathing to them.
It would be nice if there could be some consistency so that we could use ALL these teleports and jumps in jumping puzzles or other rough terrain in the game.
