Heya folks. I got a question about guardians blocking (since I almost never use it myself). Do on block traits (Might of the Protector and Amplified Wrath) Proc when you give somebody else a block like aegis? And do they proc for that person(and say give them might).

I might be crazy here but what if ..

You are crazy (No offence). Having shield interract with a virtue would cause some serious balancing issues. That being said it would be great if it somehow covertly benefited from it more the same way rapid attack weapons benefit more from voj

P.S. That would also kind of put it in direct competition with communal defense.

We’re talking about guardians. Guardians are a simple lot. We want the shield to do what its supposed to do now but effectively

Shield 4 Problem- Requires allies be standing infront of you. Why would a shield defend from behind?

Shield 5 Problem- Roots. crummy absorption shield for that loooong CD. Knocks people back making it miserable for melee weapons

Shield Trait Problem- Increases your toughness….If a player needs personal survivability they take focus. Shield is for group survivability.

Shield 4 solution-Cut back its protection power and give it some kind of debuff for the enemy as well. A blind or a daze. This way it gives abit of protection for the back line players by disabling the enemy and PLENTY of protection for frontline players in the fight with you because they get the protection too

Shield 5 solution- Remove the root, lower the radius, reduce the CD(but that’s already been done) and increase the projectile bubble time. That way you effectively have a projectile shield watching your back after you break up the enemy and go after your specific target(or ally).

EDIT:Shield Trait Solution- Refracting Altruism- Heal allies in a radius whenever you apply a defensive boon (Protection, Aegis, Resistance, Possibly regeneration but thats double dipping) With your shield equip
^Now THATS a choice worth taking and trying a few different ways.

P.S. But lets be honest. We’ll never be happy until our shield gets a block. BECAUSE SHIELDS BLOCK.(Also if you put a block on the shield somewhere it gives people the choice to pick a shield trait OR communal aegis. ~Build Diversity~)

Shelter should remain as it is. Every single skill getting parted out into a utility type is BAD. when that happens it always means the skill is underpowered if u dont take the trait for it(Like litanty of wrath is only half as powerful without monks focus). Right now Shelter is a type of skill. A BLOCKING type of skill. which means you can trait for it in a way reguardless of what other utility types you have. Seeing as blocking is a main mechanic of guardian thats a GOOD THING. It needs to stay the way it is (and hopefuly well get more like it in the future)

It should all stack multiplicatively. Otherwise 100% damage reduction would be possible with either a Mesmer or a Tempest (40% protection or 50% on Phantasmal Defender)

Theifz. I helped a lot of my guild mates rebuild after the specializations update. No other class had a trait line that I avoided as hard as the zeal trait line because some weapons just DON’T benefit from it AT ALL. It’s not that you CAN build around symbols it’s that you HAVE to if you take that line.
Also you probably win because you’re a good player. I can tell you it isn’t because your zeal line is showing you love.

Another Shield Rework Thread

I dislike the idea of shield increasing condition or boon duration. That seems like its kinda stepping on the toes of other weapons (staff and torch) and I would rather see it buffed in the one area it is supposed to reign supreme. Active Group Defense.
A Burst Heal. Aegis. Blind is possible but I would rather not see it since that usually goes along with Blades and VoJ. So besides Aegis and burst heal some kind of CC like taunt. Resistance is ok but it seems kinda futile since we have other ways of ACTUALLY clearing the condition for good.

Help a NOOB out.

I dunno. Kinda figured like a 10 stack of vulnerability but as a special effect(So it can go ontop of vuln). It would make people abit more scared of these things and really mess up anybody who wants to run in and do melee.

So basically what we have now but for the whole party.

OR!!!!

We could just give +10% DAMAGE to the party members standing in it. Since that’s what they are supposed to do anyways

Symbols are combo field and a team support tool. Why does symbolic avenger only give you the damage buff when the whole point of these things is to support the team?

As of right now Anet has abit of a split between the on block effects and the on aegis effects
Focus is our solo block weapon
Shield needs to be our group Aegis weapon
Number 4 needs to be for helping close range allies
Number 5 needs to be for helping long range allies (keep that knockback but let us not root so that we can keep on the pressure)

If they allow the moves to be more CCish than getting a toughness buff from our trait would actually be useful since enemies offense would be supressed unless they targeted us first

OR WE COULD JUST GIVE IT AN EFFECT WHENEVER WE ACTIVATE A VIRTUE (had to caps that just kuz) And then we could just switch its spot with the hammer trait.

One of the reasons I really like the fragments of Faith trap is it’s a great group effect but used solo you get a lot of blocks in rapid succession.

O I forgot about that one since its new. But yeah same old tune. Bunch of blocks in one move. You got it or you don’t

Actualy Rawr the only guardians spamming blocks are the ones with shelter and focus. The rest of us dont really get blocks besides our F3 (Which sucks when we have traits left and right that are shoving on block effects down our throats and saying its a powerup)

Yeah. All around the synergy of previous virtue traits with the new virtues is wonky. Virtues are our mechanic. Letting us change our class mechanic isn’t worth it if its gonna alienate us from the other 5 trait lines.

So the interactivity with Blind on VoJ is kinda weird with the Spear variant. I noticed it
procs exactly the same way as before except its at the end of the cast time. This is awkward and a bit of a downgrade. It should either

A. Blind instantly like before AoE like before
or
B. Blind on hit with the spear.

I agree about the block. Guardian has LOTS of blocks….all in certain areas. Mace. Shelter. It would be nice to have them spread out abit more seeing as its constantly pushed as our class mechanic

So ya. That Virtue of Justice flame spear? It needs more “fwoosh”. Either visual or audio. Half the time in the middle of a fight I’m left wondering if I even hit something with it. So just a few minutes ago I went and started CoF and did a LFG. It automatically invited the last person I had added to my contacts. I thought maybe I just misclicked something. NOPE. Happened again when I made an LFG for AC.
I would click the advertise party button and it would just send the person an invite.
Relogging fixed it

Depends on the blob fight. If you have a bunch of pugs that will hid behind the AoE line it sucks. But if you have a group of people that are willing to charge, That’s where the fun comes in. Just running into an enemies back line and seeing which ones are and are not targeting you by the way they are facing and determining who to attack off that and a quick glance at their wep/armor. Priceless

Repeat after me “I am not a necro. I do not scale with Vitality. Vitality is only to prevent bursts”. Grab soldiers it has just as much sustain.
Also it gives more UMF to your attacks and it powers up your retaliation damage which your probably applying abit of to allies so its actually better SUPPORT than nomads since your buffs are stronger.
Also to the dude above me. I cant leave this unsaid. NOMADS IS NOT SUPPORT. NOMADS IS PURE TANK. Its not even the best stats for bunker (unless you are a necro)

Toughness doing nothing is the last straw.

Toughness is actually more effective. With people investing fully into zerker stats that’s more damage getting mitigated per a point of toughness. However none of that matters if their burst is higher than your HP pool So its really the low base HP pool (comparatively) to the max burst that’s the issue right now.
It’s an issue all classes are having right now (excluding those who use stealth for defense). My suggestion would be taking some hard defensive traits/runes so you can survive that high initial burst. Anything that autoprocs protection so they explode their bag of tricks at 66% effectiveness would probably be the best idea for you.

Also I’d like to point out that you got jumped by one of the slowest classes in the game. It’s not like he came up from behind. And if you do get jumped and survive the initial burst, really, just run.

All that being said you shouldn’t have to completely alter your play style just so don’t get jumped by every scrub with a focus. I would suggest however putting some tankier gear on you if this is a regular issue.

Dropping in from the guardian side of the hood. We don’t have a CD on our heal on dodge trait. I think its kind of ridiculous you guys get a CD on your bomb on dodge. It doesn’t need a CD, its already limited by your endurance. I can see a blast finish on dodge build kinda getting out of hand but right now its not even a build so it would be awesome if they removed that CD and nerfed it another way if need be.

This thread may be a joke but it brings up a legitimate issue. There are some builds that are -capable- of killing 2 on 1 while with others its literally impossible. And this is all simply due to the way that stomp works. If you have stealth/invuln/stability for your stomp, then you can take down one bad player and then the other. If you don’t than it is a million times harder because they can just pull one another up to half HP. Then again this may be abit different with as bursty as zerkers can be now since you can just attack them dead.
