Just looked up the recipe for Nightfury. It is a bit of grind, and that’s OK. Whats NOT OK is it requiring endless batwing brew. Yes that is RNG. Yes that is easily manipulated by Trading Post flippers. And yes somebody’s going to make a stupid amount of money off you wanting that skin.
Skins should be gotten by players who play the content for it. Not guys like me who have a lot of gold. And not the even worse guys who have a lot of gold and decide to manipulate the prices of things on the TP to make more.
There needs to be a recipe for the endless batwing brew plain and simple. The skin would still be pricy but atleast the “economy” wouldn’t be whats stopping you.
So i know any in game problems of rule breaking are supposed to be reported and not discussed on the forums. I got that. I am however having an issue DOING that. More than once I’ve run into a situation where what people are doing doesn’t fall into either the verbal abuse or spamming category despite the fact that its clearly against DA RULEZ. Things like messing with events, or just stalking you in game…which after awhile gets pretty aggravating. Also organizing and having guild mates bug you. I’m sure there’s quite a long list of different acts of passive aggressive things I haven’t even thought of that I will eventually be subject too. So when this bologna does happen, how do I report it.
Not sure if this is the best place to ask but if anybody knows it would be you lore hounds. I was just looking at the legendary great swords and I noticed. Twilight, Sunrise, and Eternity all have a keyhole on them right above the handle. Which brings me to ask
…Wut does it open O.O
Fashion Mage. Vulnerability is support. CC from Dragons Maw is support. Aegis is support. Check those trap effects again.
Also just because of your name I think it would be good to mention that Im probably ALOT better dressed than you
Well alot of people try placing the traps AFTER the fights already started but BEFORE the first attack is swung. So they basicly set it infront of the person and go “HAHA YOU CANNOT DODGE” and the persons lke “Yeah im just gona dodge that”
…Its really not the best way to use traps
Yup guardians totally sucks. You should find another class. Bye
Hogs all the awsome guardian stuff for self
Condi removal. A problem. On the guardian….why I never
Because runeblade that would give us WAY to much mobility and perma imob almost. Oh and the healing. Dont forget the healing
YES! REVENANTS ARE NEW AND SCARY AND STEALIN OUR JURBS!
If you are using traps then you are a complete scrub….end of story.
On the contrary my fellow valuable player. I found there were many skillful ways these traps could be used. While I myself didn’t draw much aggro (because who wants to attack a crunchy guardian?) I was able to determine which ones of my teammates did. In one instance I decided to drop a Dragons Maw on top of a Mesmer on my team as I was running by. Not a second later some poor thief decided to shadow step in for a quick take down. Hes dead. Also since everybody thought I was “just a dragon hunter” some of the times they would leave me unharassed a I LITTERED their escape route with traps. Switched to GS and ran into the fight. And they decided to kite me. And sometimes they died. Sometimes they got away. But either way I still got that juicy supply in the middle
Traps are far from a selfish utility. I actually found that they worked best in team fights. Half because some are aoe and half because nobody had the time to step around them when fireballs were flying everywhere. I should also mention that I was running virtue and honor line. Honor for the Vit and virtues for, you guessed it, the stability.
No offense bro but seems to me like you were playing complete scrubs
Only bads will talk into your weak kitten traps. If i see you lay a trap i would simply DODGE INTO IT.
Ya you kinda have to have them there before hand, Bluntly standing right on top of your traps with a big red flag that says “TRAPS HERE” doesn’t always work. But that’s the point of traps. You put them where people don’t expect them. Plenty of good players walked into them. And I know they were good players because they managed to get out of them and high tail it before I could wipe the floor with them.
IMA REPEAT THIS IN CAPS FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. TRAPS ARE NOT WELLS. THEY ARE A DEFENSIVE UTILITY. YOU HAVE THEM PLACED BEFORE HAND LIKE A SMART PERSON. PLEASE PRACTICE WITH THEM. THEY ARE NOT THE BEST FOR 1V1 OFFENSE. THEY ARE GOOD FOR TEAMFIGHTS. THEY ARE GREAT FOR DEFENSE. THANK YOU THAT IS ALL
So this past weekend I tried running a pure Dragon Hunter. Nothing but traps and Longbow. And of course occasionally switching to GS to #2 people in the face who walk into the traps. Here’s how it went down for me
Traps-Traps are beautiful. I personally think some of the numbers need a buff because there’s a few classes that can walk through them like they’re a rampaging warrior (this of course includes rampaging warriors). But the fact that I can set them and they don’t trigger until somebody walks into them gives me great initiation ability (assuming they are coming to me). I played stronghold and spammed all of them right on the choke point and guess who walked into them? -Everybody-. I will say however that the synergy with them and LB feels kinda odd. I would rather switch to my Greatsword to burst somebody who just got stuck in Dragons Maw rather than stand back and shoot them with the LB #2. Then again I really like pushing the offensive so maybe that’s just me.
MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH TRAPS is that they feel kind of spammy. I spend half my time in a fight casting those things when I should be using weapon skills it feels. Power and CD should both get increased
Longbow- The longbow was great. Yeah I wasn’t slaying people left and right with it but I would by fibbing if I said it didn’t serve its purpose. Its #5 royaly messed with people. I didn’t get much use out of the #3 but I only had a couple days to play with it. The symbol was legit. People will gladly step around unfriendly AoEs…aaaand right into my traps. I will say the overall damage felt a bit low when I was running berserker amulet. I know its ranged and all but people really didn’t react to it the same way they react to a Ranger LB (With running, and popping defense spells, and panic). Using it in group fights was effective but one on one people seemed way to comfortable going toe to toe with me.
Traits- Hunters fortification beats the pants off of Heavy Light. Seriously. I’d take it 10 outa 10 times. I tried using heavy light at first and barely noticed it. by the time somebody was that close to me I was getting ready to switch to melee anyways. Its a CC trait that’s being used as a self defense trait. Which Hunters fortification is great self defense that’s being used for group defense. Its just a no brainer. Now if I could shoot somebody from a ways off and knock them down, that would be useful. But as it is right now if I see somebody in a fight, than hopping over with my F2 is going to save them, not me running up going “Wait for me ill help you” and then getting point black to the other guy just so I can shoot him in the face and knock him over.
Edit. Some more stuff
Backline support- Supporting with the LB was helpful but people constantly ignored me. They would rather focus down the person they were fighting and then turn to fight me rather then decide I was a threat and break off after me. Pressure on the longbow is really a must because it’s not like the traps can help with that. I felt like I really had to get in close to support people with my virtues and traps(using them like they were wells) instead of just hanging back and scaring people with my dps (This will resolve itself with virtues and LB balancing Im sure)
Defense only- Dragon hunter despite its name was extremely defensive. Traps and the LB were great when fighting on a point, but chasing somebody down? Bleh. Not enough cripple. My attacks would root me. And my traps can be run out of if I’m trying to chase somebody down with them. I think this may have been why people didn’t focus me as much. They did not fear not being able to disengage.
More on traps- Here’s a few ways people countered my traps.
1,Sending their pet into them
2.Sending their minion into them
3.Dodging
4.Death Shroud
5.Any kind of auto procing invuln.
And yes I still used them, ya know why? Because they worked. Duh. The traps have plenty of “issues”, but none of those issues are the fact that they are traps. People should practice with them more
P.S. THANKS FOR THE TRAPS ANET
P.P.S. Haters gona hate
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
They are literally the squishiest class in the game(Excluding eles who can cast regen and protection and stuff). Every second they are out of stealth is a second they are risking death.
THE NAME IS PERFECT
Try the bow (Bet I just blew your mind didn’t I?)
Im a Celestial Medi Sword/Torch – GS…nobody ever hates on me for killing them
…You people aren’t dancing on their bodies or anything are you?
Is that just due to it’s dodgability or are there some other demerits I should be aware of?
Hello my fellow guardians . Last BWE I really only played around in the new PvE map. Now I’m wondering about pvp. I’m particularly fond of Big Game Hunter and it’s ability to stack 25 stacks of vuln. I am however worried of its effectiveness in a one on one fight. Its an entire grand master traits worth of effect bundled into a single attack on a cast time and has the velocity of an arthritic sloth(Not that that’s a bad thing). If I take that GM over another, and miss with my spear of justice, how much of a disadvantage do you all think that would put me in?
#1: These traps do apply a lot of conditions. Burning, Bleeding, Blind, Cripple, Vulnerability, Revealed, and Slow.
#2: Ranger traps are on short cooldowns. Sometimes. Thief traps are not. Then again, the cooldowns for the traps can be adjusted, and being wells will not make things any better (see necromancer wells). Being wells just gets rid of doublecast.
#3: Dragonhunter Traps already provide crowd control. Fragments of Faith causes cripple, and is instant damage. Procession of blades is also nigh instant. Test of Faith causes cripple and a soft punish-if-you-walk-out effect, and Dragon’s Maw is an outright pull and barrier for 6 seconds. There’s only one trap that isn’t an instant damage attack, and that is Light’s Judgement. All other traps don’t need to hold you at all, in spite of being capable of doing so.
#4: These do provide utility. One is a blind + heal, another is a spammable aegis + cripple, another is a reveal, and dragon’s maw is basically a 6 second immobilize that comes with 4 seconds of slow. If you use the trapper runes they also all provide stealth and superspeed. Arguably the only bad trap is Test of Faith, since its strange effect means it can be counterplayed really easily.
And now for non-specific points.
#5: Guardians aren’t sacrificing utility to take traps. At all. Firstly, you don’t need to take the healing trap to have massive trap DPS, since the healing trap doesn’t do that much damage. This means that you can still have blocks and automatic condi cleanse. Second, virtues exist for a reason. If you take the virtue line, you get condition cleanse, stun break, and stability. Dragonhunters themselves come with a leap and a mobile personal shield that can absorb countless ranged attack, and also can take traits that give stability and protection.
#6: The “Source of Damage” is not easily avoided. You can’t see them until they’re already hitting you, traps are unblockable. Purification, Fragments of Faith, and Dragon’s Maw are instant. Procession of Blades is extremely fast. The only ones you can “avoid” are test of faith, for its obvious barrier nature, and Light’s Judgement, which takes awhile to fully activate. Thankfully the other traps provide control, and if not those traps there’s hunters ward, ring of warding, wrath of justice, chains of light, zaealots embrace, and binding blade + pull to yank them in again.
#7: Traited the traps have a 36 recharge (purification 24, dragon’s maw 48), and when pre cast their recharge ticks down. With smart placement, the traps can activate their effects twice within their own recharge. So no, you aren’t “useless for 40 seconds” because of traps.
#8: Traps are not exclusive with weapon skills. You can use both procession of blades and whirling wrath at the same time.
#9: Stability and teleports does not mean traps are useless. It just means that an opponent now no longer has stability and teleports when dealing with the rest of your skills. Also, half the trap effects can’t be avoided. Likewise, this is a problem that also exists with wells.
#10: You’re being too rigid. My idea of a trap focused WvW ambush class is a highly focused one, much like the trap focused builds of rangers. It doesn’t have to be exclusively traps. For example, if Light of Judgement is too slow for your tastes, you can swap it out with another skill to fill whatever hole enemies seem to punch through.
Somebody give this man a medal
Yes. It has been said time and time again by both the players and the developers that without using the elite specialization for guardian you will be an under powered meat shield for better players
#MASSIVESARCASM
Edit- But seriously you’ll be fine. I’ve played the Beta as a meditations guardian. Being melee has the same inconveniences that it always has. Nothing new. You’ll survive along with the rest of us greatsword swingers
Double edit- That being said you might wana grab some soldiers gear because those Mordrem archers are MEEEEEEAN
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
Despite the fact that u can trick people into walking into 4 traps at once. and with wells you can only cast them one at a time and they get blocked and dodged. Oh ok. Guess that makes sense
Ragnar. I honestly believe the solution to that would be buffing the traps, not scrapping them entirely. Which buffing them was in the notes for changes for the next BWE wasnt it?
But then they wouldn’t be traps any more. We have wells, they are called consecrations. Wells don’t have all the same uses as traps I would hate to see them changed.
Also Nike. Other traps don’t have ground targeting after specializations patch.
I think the solution to this issue..is that none of you want to use traps. Because you obviously want wells.
Traps in PvE are no issue. Mobs are stupid. Traps in PvP? Well that forces you to think abit but seeing as 90% of gameplay revolved around taking points you should be able to get people with them there too. Im not seeing the problem*

(edited by Silhouette.5631)
Traps are traps. You set them. You lure people into them. They are not fireballs or explosives, you don’t cast them at people.
You people don’t like traps. That’s ok. But please stop trying to get them changed. You want ground targeting? GO GRAB SOME CONSECRATION
Having a bow trait that interacts with virtue cast times is like mixing your peas and your rice its a bad thing for people who only want the peas
Hey guys, guardian here. I was wondering if it was possible to target an AoE on yourself or on an ally by having them as your target. Mostly I want to know because trying to use consecrations underwater is really messing me up.
D: aw don’t worry mage. Tomes will come back they said.
….right after they update shield
Atticus do your research. Us guardians only get to take conditions off others with our torch and its a crummy move we’ve repeatedly complained about. We would all gladly roll a thief just to steal your torch
I hear ya Devil. But I kind of have to disagree. Having personally seen things talked about the in forum and then implemented into the game I cant join Team No Feedback. I’ll agree that way to much stuff got put on the back burner, but I honestly believe its more a victim of circumstance than Devs intentionally leaving stuff to fail.
Take the shield for example. Its always been a bit crummy, but before these recent patches that Protection and knockback that it had was OK in comparison. I mean yeah it wasn’t anywheres near meta, but people could still use it with a clerics build without feeling completely nerfed(Overlooking the fact that nobody uses a clerics build for the most part). So it wasn’t on the “MUST BE FIXED NOW” list. So now all this fancy new stuff comes out and it highlights the functionality issues with old weapons. Ok so maybe now they decide to fix it. Buuuuut that takes awhile, they have a que of stuff work on. So basically we have to wait for it to hit rock bottom and then wait 6 months for it to get patched.
I’m not saying that’s a good way to go about things but I honestly believe its whats happening. And I can say I honestly do believe they look at the feedback
Remember when they said they would try to prevent power creep from specializations?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh god I actually fell for it. Good one Anet
In all seriousness though. It DOES make sense for the warrior torch to do that. Guardians have always been more of “team players” than the warrior. So for the warrior to have the same effect but only for themselves makes sense.
It does however rub in the fact that our torch 5 is still kinda completely useless the way it is and doesn’t even serve the purpose it was designed for -.- Q.Q
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
@ Quaniesan- I’m all for for freedom of speech but your comment is both off topic and unnecessarily insulting. Mind keeping that kinda thing off my thread?
Edit- Or ya know you could use this sweet edit function to make it look like more than argument bait
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
You are right( @ Thorwyn), it is not fun being nerfed. In pvp power is relative to the other classes/players/builds. The guardians know the guardians better than anybody else. So why should it be the other 7/8ths of the population(oh! 8/9ths now welcome revenants!) complaining about us needing a nerf when we ourselves know EXACTLY whats not working right?
We constantly ask for stuff to get fixed for ourselves, and we constantly offer to do the math and theory crafting necessary to make parts of our class work right. It can’t hurt to offer a hand when the nerf stick comes around as well because as we clearly saw in the specializations patch it WILL come around and when it does it overcompensates in a bad way.
A nerf with bad mechanics is just as bad as a new skill or trait with bad mechanics.
Also “Feel My Wrath” Definitely needs a nerf. I mean its basically the bread and butter of current dungeon runs. I can see other classes getting passed up for a guardian just because of that shout
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
O lord how could I forget that burn duration. YES Burn duration on torch is basically a 20% increase to burn damage. And seeing as burn is the ONLY condition damage we do that’s 20% increase IN DAMAGE from a MASTER TRAIT. That’s CRAAAAAZY. Instead it just needs to give an extra long stack from the torch if its just meant to keep people on fire.
This issue is probably why they kept increasing the velocity on ranger LB. And here we are again but with the guardian
Amineo. This thread is about what on guardian can be nerfed. If ya don’t feel like talking about that, go somewhere else. That applies to anybody else reading this as well
Ah giving it a cast time would keep it from doing so many things (I love to use it mid leap to hit people before they dodge my actual attack. But other classes don’t get to do that kinda thing do they?). That probably was not its original purpose however to be used while downed like that even though it is supposed to be a FAST move. Ya know personally I take it because with its CD it gives me ALOT of healing and fury. The CD is crazy low and Box I think you’re right about cast times. I have 1/4 cast time on Litany of Wrath and I barely notice it. It barely leaves it open to interrupts and mostly just keeps you from doing things like using it in the middle of another move and sucker punching people all the time
Sorry when I say “I usually don’t need that much healing” I ment “Those D/D eles are usually dead by then” (Mostly kuz I’m a murder on 2 legs when I step into PvP)
Also, this thread is about what can be nerfed not whether or not that’s worth discussing. If nobody thinks there’s anything that can afford to be nerfed than this threads emptiness will speak for itself
Ok yall probably just read that title and came in with cannons at the ready but hold up now and hear me out.
All the time I look at classes like thief and ranger and say “Hey all that stealth is OP” or “Hey lick wounds is stupidly OP” followed up with the comment “If they would just nerf that one mechanic they could balance the rest of the class”
And then it struck me
Are we the same?!
Looking at recent events us guardians have been asking for ALOT of change. And it seems the devs are hesitant to give it to us anytime soon. So I ask you “Is it to keep us from being entirely OP?” Are there moves and traits and effects that we could afford a nerf in because they are working entirely to well? So in the spirit of asking the Guardian class be balanced (which seems to be a thing this month) I ask you all
WHAT CAN BE NERFED?!
I personally play a meditations guardian and ya know…I usually don’t need that much healing.
Has nobody here seen the movie 300?!
We have a spear, and it has a 3 second casttime so GG
LONG SPEAR CAST TIME (Yeah i know that 4 but it came from the heart, that F1 takes to long)
Arken did you just say cancel rapid fire? You realize the whole point of that attack is to be FAST. That’s like asking somebody to do a backflip mid punch (Which you technically can do in this game but that’s besides the point >.<).
Besides we already have punishment for rapid attacks in the form of retaliation
ICD was implemented because it heavily favor skills like shelter which gave inf blocks. It DOES need a buff but in a way that benefits other block skills as well (Mace, Aegis etc).
Might of the Protector is supposed to be a compliment to our Virtue of Courage (Kind of how Honor and Radience lines have things that benefit from VoJ and VoR). That being said its kind of a massive buff to Shelter right now than an actual upgrade for the Virtue because it doesn’t even apply the might to allies as far as I know (please correct me if Im wrong on that)
The warriors shield skill is a different case entirely. Its MENT to punish people who attack a blocking person to much. For the guardian it was not our traits main functionality and that’s why it was nerfed
I don’t pay attention to what my enemies do in PvP all the time. That doesn’t mean they should get to smack me in the face with stacks of might from a minor trait. Having it proc two or three times on shelter keeps it from being abused by say running into meteor storm or some other AoE and procing it. It also probably made it abit op in WvW when it didn’t have the ICD
All that being said. Yeaaaah this trait needs a buff. I mean when you compare it to the other grandmaster minor traits its just weaksauce. They could either increase the stacks to make it a hard burst (which would make sense considering our master trait there) or increase the duration and make it more accumulative (which really does nothing for people with Aegis being their only block).
Edit: Also I see my boy chuck down there. WAAAAASSSSUUUUUUPP
Double edit- Why don’t they just decrease its time to 5s and triple the might stacks? That way it would synergize much better with Retributive armor and actually reward blocking and then bursting
(edited by Silhouette.5631)
If you use battle presense you need to go neck deep in it. That being said its not worth using togeather with spirit weapons because theyll still die from their internal timer anyways.
How do I put this. You know how they gave a buff to litany of wrath a little bit ago? Before that if you pvp’d and you used Litany of wrath. You were in a bad spot(Despite the fact that I personally did and still do rek face with it). Sure GUARDIAN was fine, but YOUR GUARDIAN wasn’t. That’s why it got buffed. I swear a good 1/4 of my guild plays a guardian (just because its cheesy playstyle is so popular). I ask them what build they run and I know for a fact they aren’t all in a good spot because some of their traits are just backwards.
I used to play clerics for the first half a year I played. I changed my playstyle for obvious reasons. I made myself a beautiful zerker build. Specializations came. I got a nerf. Im OK with that. But some of the traits I now look right at and go “No this is not a good spot”.
So sure the class may be in a good spot. But that doesn’t matter a single bit to the individual. And even if its 1/10 the classes builds that aren’t working right that’s ALOT of disgruntled people and that’s why you see so much rage on the Guardian forum right now
#REVENANTSSTEALINOURJOBS
No. We are a good few builds. We are not a good class because that would mean everything in our class working right. And compared to where we were we are in a worse spot. Being kicked from groups is being in THE WORST spot and we shouldn’t have to be at that point just for complaints of balance issues to be considered realistic.
You don’t wait until somebody has a fever of 110 to treat them. You give them a gosh darned flu shot before hand.
Please don’t dismiss people for warning of what horrible things could (and are) happening to our class because they have CLEARLY happened to other classes.
We don’t want to be the next Ranger (and dear dwayna theyve already given us the Longbow)
What do you do for a class that’s great? Fix the issues so we can play more builds viably. And no. We WERE in a good spot. Now we’re in a bad spot. We’re actually getting more issues. We are going backwards. That’s not ok. And saying how bad the situations are for other classes doesn’t excuse the problems with ours. Because there’s some nerfherder on the other forums I’m sure going “Hey be thankful for what you have. At least our shield isn’t like guardians” Its not an excuse because if everybody points the finger somewhere else it just goes in a big circle.
