Personally,I really enjoy getting 10 of my closest friends, grouping up and roaming for soloers. We crush the soloer then spam points and laughs at him. Makes me feel all warm inside.

Yes, but you’re the one I look for later when you find yourself alone. Then I stomp you and /bow.

To get back on thread topic: I haven’t stated before re: gear/food/etc what I think is fair for roaming. While I admire the OP’s desire to make it as even a level playing field as possible, it’s pretty much impossible to coordinate that universally. So let them eat whatever they want, get as many stacks as they want .. to me roaming is all about learning my class and improving my skill. You typically end every fight by learning something. That’s a good thing.

:) At least someone gets what roaming is about. You learn to play tactically with your class AND team (if you do small group roaming). This allows you to beat people who don’t play tactically at all. So it is basically something for more coordinated and serious WvW players, and the best form of PvP in the game.

Looking at Whiteside’s buying-time “Collaboration push” in the General forum…
…makes me believe they’re already on the Bargaining stage.

Especially when looking at Josh’s followup in it about what they consider to be useable feedback where it becomes clear that they only care about how opinions are worded rather than how factual they actually are. …. I know there’s hundreds of us here who get infracted every month on the slippery slope of “rude/cynical” posts that they (Anet) want to imply is just a bunch of Slander because they are out of touch with the facts. … they get all their facts from datamining which if you look at similar models in the USA with regards to public polling …. you instantly see just how useless that sort of data gathering really is. (Mathematical paradox: congress having a 10% approval rating … but a 90% incumbancy for instance).

This thread itself will likely see deletion on the grounds of “character attack” even though all we’re doing is trying to figure when we can start taking all of this seriously and actually do what they claim they want us to do…. (give nothing but positive-worded feedback). ….Before we can take it seriously, there has to be some trust. When they tell us our feedback will be ignored b/c they think any one part of it might be Slander, then the discussion is no longer about collaborating. It’s about keeping score and “It’s my way, or the highway”.

And they CAN do that…. It’s their forum. It’s their Servers. It’s their ball… But when all they have left is a bunch of yes-men… When they either turn away or outright ban their most passionate fans by constraining the discussion to a point where they never have to apologize for any of the mistakes THEY MADE… they quickly lose the brightest and most creative contributors the ever had. And the product’s overall potential takes a huge hit until it becomes so inbred that it stops attracting any new playerbase —- Just like City of Heroes before NcSoft pulled the plug on that game…

I made a similar post in the vein of this one on their Forums about 2 years before it shut down. (just as it was hitting its death spiral). And 4 years before that… I called Jack Emmert out on his shenanigans and misappropriation of resources right before he got pushed out of lead Dev … he replied to my post with so much denial and deflection it makes that Tagged up Dev who squatted on the GvG’ers look like miss congeniality. Granted I may be a ADHD scrub in Arena, terrible at minmaxxing in general, and even mathematically dyslexic at times. But as far as prognosticating trouble ahead goes, my track record is pretty good…

…I don’t foresee Anet going down that road in the next 5 years b/c for right now, there isn’t that level of Hubris. Mike OBrien still holds the reins on this horse (I hope!). This isn’t even a nose dive yet. It’s a snag at best…. And all they have to do is just get over it. Do things that actually rebuild respect from us long-timers who’ve been with them since April 2005. Focus on bug fixes and skill splits like they used to do in good old Gw1. … don’t write off everyone with negative comments as a LOST CAUSE. Stop building Carnival Attractions and start building Trust.

But that is exactly what we want to change. WvW SHOULD BE PvP, cause it is called “Massive battles between players of different servers”.

1. A database for unlocked armour/weapon skins and armour/weapon/trinket stats

  • No more using transmutation stones to get the skin you like on the weapon you like, every time.
  • From now on, when you buy an armour, you can buy a “Template stone” (price in gem store equivalent to transmutation stone). This Template stone allows you to save the skin, stats and sigil of the particular armour into your account and will become accessible on all characters, for no further cost. You can also store runes, sigils and trinkets this way. Then you can create your own items, using the Template Menu, I think of this much in terms of the PvP locker, combining any stats/skins and upgrade components that you have stored in the locker.
  • Templates: from now on you can save a certain set-up, albeit cosmetic or practical (for example “Dungeon gear”, “Support gear”, “Staff build”), which automatically loads:
    – your armour (stats, skins and runes)
    – your weapons (stats, skins and sigils)
    – your trinkets (stats)
    – your skills (heal, utility, elite)

2. The first suggestion means that from now on armour/weapons and so forth you consume using the Template stones will disappear into the Template storage and can be summoned by opening it up and selecting the gear/stats/runes. The summoned versions will be soulbound, but the armour will be accessible on your other characters aswell, though not tradeable or salvageable.

There you go. No more buying gear and having no space for it, no more having to farm gear for one character and then for the next ones too. Efficient and simple.

Hmm, very neat idea, would be awesome if they would implement it.

:) Just a suggestion, mind you. It might be a lot harder to implement than it appears at first sight, but Guild Wars 1 had a similar system for PvP, letting you create PvP armour through selecting ‘gear’, ‘skin’, ‘upgrade components’ (the GW1 gear system was slightly different than GW2’s, for example no special gear stats such as power/precision/toughness/vitality…).

Issues with this:

- WvWvW matches would always be new and dynamic. Your allies and your enemies will be different each week.

  • Extremely hard for guilds to continue to operate
  • Server pride non-existent
  • Unskilled players unwilling to accept advice and play to win will flood upper tier matches.

- Strategy, team work and guild play will become more important. This would be from a combination of the more even fights at top instance ranks as each world/color can always field full teams, but you can pull your personal groups together to swipe a few points on lower instance ranks.

  • Similar to hotjoin PvP, this couldn’t be further from the truth. With the flood of unskilled zerker players streaming into top-tier ranking maps, commanders with have an extremely difficult time attempting to co-ordinate, especially as 90+% of their guild can’t get in.
  • Combat would become the unskilled zergfest “numbers = win” that people ignorantly claim is true of T1. Skill and co-ordination out the window.

- Classes in WvWvW can now be balanced separately from PvE – which is a pretty big deal.

Already a thing.


The current set-up allows players who are interested in playing to win, who don’t flee at the sight of greater numbers, who are willing to run synergy builds, who are on teamspeak, who can follow commanders on a dime and who are interested in hardcore large scale tactical PvP have a place to go.

This change risks taking that relatively small portion of the community, spreading it across all servers to the detriment of those players gameplay experience.

That’s not to say that something similar wouldn’t work, but simply that this isn’t an issue with an quick and easy fix. Players create this dynamic not developers and it’s that community that makes or breaks the experience.

  • Server pride IS non-existent
  • Match results (PPT) aren’t important, guild or team victories are
  • WvW is auto-attack, zerg at this moment… nothing can do worse

You mustn’t use your laurel for wxp. I find it a very big waste, and it is easier to grind for it where you’d eventually level up atleast 2 x a day if you’re a casual player like me.

Use your laurel for wvw infusions instead. Or ascended trinkets.

Take out wxp (best), or account wide rank would be the (2nd best) or an alternative is, which I support, you can only get rank points up to a certain level, like 1-100, and the rest – will only provide the award chests, and retraitable rank points, just like our character traits, which we only have 70 points to spend for our builds.

Or just delete ascended in WvW…. solution of about 2 minutes. Thank you. Bye.

Guardian Rank 101 Level 80
Mesmer Rank 46 Level 80
Engineer Rank 38 Level 80
Ranger Rank 7 Level 80
Warrior Rank 4 Level 80
Necro Rank 8 Level 80
Ele Rank 11 Level 80
Thief Rank 10 Level 80
Thief Rank 1 Level 56

For a total of 226 Ranks. Sadly there is no way possible to outfit them all in Ascended gear so most will no longer be used in WvW. As more and more people are getting fully upgraded with Ascended I am finding those toons of mine that do not have any Ascended gear are no longer quite as viable. It is forcing me down to three toons that I play in WvW now and that could dwindle more as time goes on.

This. Eventually, you’ll quit because of burnout from being able to play only one toon competitively. And Anet will lose another customer.

That’s what happened to me. Total of some 120 ranks, not to count the hundreds of hours invested in WvW before ranks came… and now with kittenty ascended and world ranks it’s all for nothing.

OP upscaling - lvl21 thief vs lvl80s (vid)

I did another lowbie video, with Hodor as a thief this time, for fun, and also to point out a few things.

Upscaling system is ridiclulous for low level (lvl10-20) characters, the upscaling multiplier for a stat on lvl20 is ‘8’, so putting 10 points on critical strikes gives you +800 precision and +80% crit dmg. Max out them with armor/trinket stats, runes, nuggets and food, and you can get 120%crit dmg, 3k attack and ~50% crit chance on lvl20…. WTF?

True, i didn’t have the necessary stealth traits, but the main problem is , as you level up, your stats getting worse and worse, and the traits you get instead can’t compensate the loss of stats, so its unfair that a lvl10-20 character is much stronger than a lvl60.

Anet said something about fixing the condition upscaling with the next patch,
well they should as it is ridiculous atm, you can see it in any of the older videos. Even if the opponents were bad players, it is still not okay.

Absolute bullkitten. The players you were fighting were nothing short of horrible. And my level 80 thief hits 10k where yours does 2k. I’m actually a fan of making upscaled characters as strong as level 80s. That’s the way it should be, because WvW isn’t play to win, but serious competition, or so it claims to be.

What i’m looking for: a small guild (max 10-15 players) that like to do World vs. World on a advanced level, on small scale, taking on bigger guilds and fighting their way out of hard situations.

Optimally none of the players in that guild would do anything but World vs. World, because PvE is just a joke anyways. If you know a guild doing exactly this, on a european server, and willing to let me test it out… let me know!

My set-ups:

  • Elementalist: D/D – Staff [Heal, Burst, Tank, Hybrid]
  • Guardian: Sword/shield – Staff – Greatsword – Hammer [CC, DPS, Tank, Heal]
  • Warrior: Sword/Warhorn – Hammer – Greatsword – Longbow – Rifle [CC, DPS, Tank, CD]

What you’re saying is that basically there aren’t servers less zergy than for example gandara, as a silver league server? Personally I think there’s still rather too many zergs in gandara. Some evenings there’s just 1 or 2 big zergs and everyone joins it/them, and there’s nothing to do for the non-zerg players.
Lets not give up yet though! Anet must fix the imbalance one day or another (crossed fingers).

For clarification… if you have the mats, this means you have worked for them and the amount of time working on them, could be translated in gold.

If you don’t have the mats, this means you don’t like to farm (which is understandable) OR you’re a WvW or SPvP players (areas of the game that reward about 1/20 you would get in PvE). This means… PvE farmers, who didn’t play WvW/SPvP and don’t have a clue how to PvP will get BiS gear, pay to win.

You can plug in any MMO you choose, i dont mean to pick on WoW only mentioned WoW specifically cause you mentioned it first.

I brought it up when you said “most MMOs only allow you to do dungeons and raids”, which I disagreed with, insinuating that you may want to look into exactly what content exists with most other MMOs, and pointing at WoW as the easiest example. The burden of proof lies with you.

Like I said WoW is not one of the games I play So I have no idea first hand what the end game consists. According to WoW players though it still fits the bill:

It certainly isn’t, but repeating that year old content today a second time doesn’t hold much interest, either – hence my introduction into this thread in reply to BlueZone’s post. You may want to read up on that again.

All those dungeon paths I’ve completed – numerous times – nearly a year ago, so I have no interest in replaying them. I earned map completion on one character and 70% on another, so I have no interest in going back to the world: I’ve already played all of it. So these new rewards are grindy as hell.

It might help to know that if given the choice to having to grind new content for a month or grind any of the old content for a month, I’d choose neither. If I HAD to choose, I’d rather a “new reward” come attached with new content, not a “new reward” attached to old content. In that case, I’d make some progress towards that reward.

I am sorry but if you find playing content a 2nd time grindy MMOs might not be the genre for you cause once you hit max level I know of no MMO that gives a stream of fresh content to play. The closest is once again Gw2 that pumps out new content every 2 weeks.

At the end of the day its a question of tastes. You prefer to repeat something new 25 times in a row, I prefer to have a thousand things and I can choose 25 items of them to repeat a 2nd time.

I, and many others, don’t consider what they pump out every 2 weeks content.

I agree 100% with the OP.

A lot of people I know have been pretty outraged that you have to craft to get one and then the cost of crafting is kittenedly high. Thus has become a cheap Asian P2Win game similar to perfect world.

Agree 100%. Ascended are pay to win and they ruin the PvP element of the game.

I hear this often from people in and out of game. I can’t understand how they can think that crafting something was free since they gathered the mats.

Once you have the mats, you have 2 options:
1. Craft them into something.
2. Sell them.

In both cases, you are without the mats in the end, but gain:
1. The value of the item you crafted.
2. The gold gained from selling mats.

So when crafting, the cost was either #2 (gold you would have gotten selling the mats), or the cost of buying the mats, both of which are pretty similar.

And the time it takes to gather should also be taken into account. Time saved can be used to make gold somewhere else.

I refrained from exploiting the gold farms involving champion hunts and invasions. By not taking part of the exploits, I do not have 500 gold sitting in my bank, like most the farmer crowd. People like me don’t have the chance to get ascended. Ascended are an excuse for grinders.

This game is not only Alt-unfriendly, it is Alt-penalizing.

Here’s why I say this. I have 8 Lv. 80 toons, one for each profession, and all with full exotic gear, and most with ascended trinkets. To get to that point I have had to repeat lots of (to me) boring/grinding content that should have been account bound. I do not want to spend 15 minutes teaching skills to cows on some random ranch just to get a ‘heart’ when I am really after challenging combat. Why can’t WvW skill level be account-bound so that I can play all 8 of my toons with the benefits I’ve earned? Why can’t map completion be one-and-done so that it isn’t boring as kitten to open all the areas for all my toons? Oh, and add to that the fact that the much-touted ‘build diversity’ boils down to full zerker in PvE and PVT in WvW.

I suppose you can say ‘if you’re not having fun then just quit’, but that misses the point. If the game were living up to its stated goals I would be having fun…

I agree strongly with this. The only end-game for players who started playing at headstart (like myself) is World vs. World.

When I play a new character however, I don’t like being kicked into the ground by a level 80 who just started playing 1 month ago. No offense, but he’s just a GS warrior and he can 2-hit me with auto-attack?? And I played over a year and know combat a looooot better than that guy? Seriously?

It pertains to the conversation I was having. People have claimed in this thread that Guild Wars 1 was more successful than Guild Wars 2. I was answering and talking about that claim.

Not true. The discussion you referenced was on topic of how much percentage of GW1 players are in GW2 (or were at start). Most of what you have said so far is completely irrelevant to that point.

Are you saying this conversation never took place? That no one said that one or the other sold more copies?

…sometimes i think that you really don’t look at the posts you reply to.

Considering GW2 sold 7 times more copies the GW did. you would need 3 times the population GW1 ever reached just to hit 40%-50% of the GW2 player base.

This is what you tried to defend with your first reply, and what started the whole conversation.

Mate, give up. Arguing with Vayne is an endless war (no offense). :P

Why is getting ascended weapon based completely on luck ( low drop rate like precursor ) or an cost extreme amount of gold via crafting?

I guess Anet really wants to bring back crafting, but seriously though, can Anet develops like a bunch of quest and after we finishes each quest we get a small pieces and then all together makes Ascended Weapon, ideally it should took 3-4 weeks to finish the quest. I think that will be a lot more enjoyable for everyone.

We already got Legendary to grind, please dont add on Ascended….

Really hope Anet rethinks about this before releasing Ascended Armor.

Personally: my thoughts on ascended are this:

  • Let us gather it through an enticing and challenging quest line!
  • Don’t make us farm materials…, but give us pieces as part of a scavenger hunt
  • Leave out the crafting altogether: getting to 500 crafting is an expense no casual player can afford so it is really pay to win.
  • Make the pieces soulbound so you can’t just go buying materials for the ascended and then craft them like a boss.
  • Bring new characters in that will be a part of the development of the weapon/armour, either as protagonists or as allies.

I think you are loosing the point of the thread.

The statement is that World vs. World match-ups are horribly unbalanced, so much that:

  • Server A has double the score servers B & C have together.
    This results in:
    - Server C/B not playing at all cause they get rolled over by blobs.
    - Decent WvW players on A decide not to play either because there’s no real competition.

OR

  • Sever A & B individually have triple the score server C has.
    This results in:
    - People on server C sitting out the week in PvE
    - People on servers A & B attacking server C and not eachother
    - Decent WvW players on servers A & B not playing again.

FIX IT ALREADY ARENANET!

Huzzah for reversed logics of reward. Because normally: the harder, the more rewarding BUT …:

  • Premise 1: The more people you have, the easier
  • Premise 2: The more people you have, the more rewarding
  • Conclusion: The easier, the more rewarding

WvW doesn’t follow a regular reward scheme, and therefore fails.

Simply, what people seek is a way to move WVW to a balanced situation. How? Control the population per bl 1-3x a day, where it will change depending on the mean of adding the number of players in all three servers queuing for wvw.

It will ensure more people are distributed into different borderlands.

That might actually work. But the only thing I wonder about:

  • High population server: won’t most people there be unable to enter?

I agree that it’s their own fault for stacking up on a server, but still. It would lead to a huge rage-wave. Personally:

  • I refrain from going into WvW when we beat the other servers 2 to 1.
  • I refrain from going into WvW when we get beaten by other servers 2 to 1.

So I think making the numbers balanced would encourage more people to play WvW again, because right now there isn’t any challenge involved… and there would be when it’s equal numbers!!

Lets see if the devs pay this any attention!

High population servers will then be forced to transfer and distribute elsewhere; so they can play. It is a big price to pay for balance. As we can’t have everything t.t

Imho this is what guild wars 2 needs:

1. A database for unlocked armour/weapon skins and armour/weapon/trinket stats

  • No more using transmutation stones to get the skin you like on the weapon you like, every time.
  • From now on, when you buy an armour, you can buy a “Template stone” (price in gem store equivalent to transmutation stone). This Template stone allows you to save the skin, stats and sigil of the particular armour into your account and will become accessible on all characters, for no further cost. You can also store runes, sigils and trinkets this way. Then you can create your own items, using the Template Menu, I think of this much in terms of the PvP locker, combining any stats/skins and upgrade components that you have stored in the locker.
  • Templates: from now on you can save a certain set-up, albeit cosmetic or practical (for example “Dungeon gear”, “Support gear”, “Staff build”), which automatically loads:
    – your armour (stats, skins and runes)
    – your weapons (stats, skins and sigils)
    – your trinkets (stats)
    – your skills (heal, utility, elite)

2. The first suggestion means that from now on armour/weapons and so forth you consume using the Template stones will disappear into the Template storage and can be summoned by opening it up and selecting the gear/stats/runes. The summoned versions will be soulbound, but the armour will be accessible on your other characters aswell, though not tradeable or salvageable.

There you go. No more buying gear and having no space for it, no more having to farm gear for one character and then for the next ones too. Efficient and simple.

Leveling in WvW. Balanced?

I don’t think people realize just how much gear is over-scaled in WVW.

Anyway, if you’re a good player, you’ll be about on even grounds with an average to good player.

If you’re an average player, you’ll mostly be defeated one on one, particularly due to being behind on traits..

In general, however, one-on-one is a really dumb way to try and level in WVW. You won’t be doing 1v1 much if you’re using it to level anyway.

I think they should make an uplevel as strong as a max-level character, for the sake of fair competition and for people who like to play with alts. Where are the times you could jump into PvP without having to grind any gear or levels, in Guild Wars 1? Ahhhh, right, Guild Wars 2 came, introduced grind in WvW and added SPvP for the people who want real competition… except that it isn’t PvP but point-capping. Good job… good job.

Match-ups are broken, since the launch, but it got worse when they implemented random match-ups, not per tier. Personally I refrained from going into WvW, unless when I felt like solo-roaming on hours when there weren’t any blobs about OR when I got the chance to join in with a group of up to 5 other players to roam and fight against/escape from zergs. That’s the only real competitive PvP there still is in WvW.

Zerg vs. Zerg is barely PvP at all and Blob vs. Blob is even worse. Most of the time though it’s Huge Blob vs. Zerg or Zerg vs. 5-man. Barely balanced and barely a fair competition. I hope changes are being thought of, because this is certainly not what I bought this game for.

On the contrary. I only play WvW as a solo roamer or a small team roamer. Never as a zerger. Sadly, 95% of the population is running with 60-man blobs… hardly feasible for a roamer like myself.

Personally I’m a big fan of exploration. The exploration itself should be reward enough when there is enough diversity in the exploration, in monster mechanics and story. Those are the key factors.

WvW meet all the criteria and I didn’t think that any of the Spvp criteria are actually crucial.

You clearly never played World vs. World on prime-time. WvW isn’t challenging in any way (and by this I mean it is not competitive PvP):

  • Numbers > Skill (including: auto-attacking, zerging, server imbalance)
  • Skill lagg
  • Coverage wars: Player vs. Door

At this point I just can’t be bothered to do any of them any more. Same with Living World stuff. I just don’t care. Champs are supposed to be tough, I get it, but when you can’t even beat them solo with appropriate level anymore? Or what was the whole point of defeating the bandit raid on the resevoire when the same bandits try the same thing 15 mins later because a timer said so? This was supposed to be a game that is different from World of Warcraft. Right now the only thing to reccommend GW2 over WoW is the fact that you don’t pay monthly subscription fees.

If I beat back a bandit raid, the same event shouldn’t spawn 15 mins later. The chains need to be longer, or the respawns longer. I get that designing long branching chains is a challenge and time consuming, but I’d rather see that and have living world events last like Flame and Frost did. I don’t mind waiting a month or two between Living world updates if it means that my actions make a difference in the game and that the living world events are more intricate. Right now it’s find X hideouts, kill Y of Z and blah blah blah…

I’d love to see it where an event could be started by finding plans to attack the resevoire, so what happens if you go and clear out the cave? The attack doesn’t happen, but instead, survivors now infiltrated the local constabulary and start sabotaging the town. Now you have to track them down… or you build defenses or you have to scout for outposts or massing centaur attacks or whatever. Anything, even if the event chains were on a weekly cycle and much longer, it would make the game interesting to play, or even make the non-pvp elements more player driven. Let players establish businesses and trade routes, give the option of doing “carebear” stuff like in EVE Online. Instead of dealing with regular bandit attacks, blow up one of the back cave entrances, and establish something else in there.

Much of this is already around in PVP where you can build fortifications, repair walls, build seige machines, disrupt caravans and so forth. I understand the balance concerns for PVP, but GW1 actually had PVE and PVP specific versions of skills, so when you enter WvWvW your skills are switched to the more controlled PvP forms maintaining balance, while you don’t have to worry as much about that in PvE.

I’m in the same position as you. I think more of the events should have a consequence. Maybe let the player decide what to do, instead of tying him to a series of events like a puppet? I will add my own suggestion about this.

I agree partly with that Cattivo:

  • Insta-leveling shouldn’t be something that is achieved easily
  • Maybe it’s better to only sell scrolls when you have proven you’re an adept player, by leveling 5 characters, but I think the story requirement are a bit severe.

The personal story was interesting until level 50, where you got to the part that got really ugly and rushed, so after you finished your own faction’s story and became a Pact member. For me the most interesting part of the story was level 1-30, the racial one. I think we could add another requirement there though: become a full member of each of the specific orders (Vigil/Priory/Whispers).

Also if there’s a new expansion: there’s 2 options; either we can enter the zones with our level 80 characters or we need to create a new character. In the case you need to create a new character I think it’s appropiate to let people who played the original game buy an experience scroll after 3 maxed-out characters in the new expansion.

NA servers might be an option if you are looking for small group actions. Servers like SoS and Maguuma have some EU groups and is perfect if you are looking for small ops.

Wouldn’t the servers be mostly empty during EU hours, if not I’d sure be willing to come over? :P
